What seemed like a simple program glitch on a revolutionary mining machine turns out to be more serious. Far more serious. The machine, called BARD-P1 is hijacked by a hacker who has no idea what he is about to unleash. The machine punches through side of a cavern that is over five miles deep. The tunnel fills with a fog that is from an unknown origin. In an attempt to clear the tunnel they use large fans to vent it into the atmosphere. Within days workers start to become sick and die. The CDC, ( Center for Disease Control) and a special agency created during the height of the Cold War, the Deadly Virus Containment Team (DVCT), are called in to identify and stop the spread of the virus. In the beginning it is identified as Ebola but soon mutates into a Chimera. As millions are dying, the virus continues to spread. The two agencies work furiously to determine the exact makeup of the virus and its origin. Unknown to the two agencies, other forces are at work to keep the truth from being discovered. It is a frantic race against time to find a cure and stop the spread before the entire earth's population is decimated. There is nonstop action that will make even the most optimistic person stop and think about the dangers of the world we live in. One small accident could determine the fate of the planet.

Marshall W. Huffman did not set out to be a published author. Most of his writing was for personal satisfaction. His wife, Susan, consistently tried to talk him into submitting his work for publication but the idea of rejection deterred him.

It wasn’t until 2012 that he finally gave in and at her insistence e-published his first book, THE END. That almost turned out to be a disaster when he accidentally published the rough draft instead of the finished book.

After that little setback and of course, republishing the finished manuscript, his writing career has really taken off.

Marshall’s first trilogy is THE EVENT and consists of THE END, THE BEGINNING, and THE REVELATION. His second trilogy is called THE SECOND CIVIL WAR. BOOK I- A NATION DIVIDED; BOOK II - A NATION AT WAR; and BOOK III - A NATION HEALING. The series is a look at today's world and what could well happen within the next few years.

He has also published a series of books entitled: THE LOGAN FILES with a central cast of characters. In addition, he has another series entitled: THE NORRIS FILES with its own set of central characters. He enjoys writing mysteries, techno-thrillers, and Sci-Fi.

His newest books THE BRINK – DEEP FLIGHT and THE BRINK – DAY OF RECKONING are intense techno-thrillers with Sci-Fi intertwined. His latest addition is CHIMERA. It is a look at what could well happen if we don’t stop twisting science in perverted way.

Marshall was born in Bainbridge, Georgia and grew up in Indiana. After spending eight years in the Navy, he attended Ball State University, earning a B.S. degree in Business.

During and after college, he was involved in the restaurant business and spent the next twenty-five years in all types of venues, eventually owing his own fine dining restaurant. After years of long hours, he decided on a career change.

He attended Eastern Illinois University earning a MBA. Because of his business background, Eastern Illinois University asked him to teach in the hospitality management program. He was recruited from Eastern to Parkland College and soon took over as the Program Director for the Hospitality Program.

During his tenure there, he became a chef and had a television show called Cooking around the World with Chef Marshall and taught a series of cooking classes for Continuing Education as well.

Professor Huffman retired from teaching along with his wife, Dr. Susan Huffman, to Tampa Bay Florida.

I enjoyed this suspenseful read. The pace of this novella is solid. The plot is full and ever unwinding as we follow the course of events leading too the release of a deadly, mutating virus, the disastrous actions of the government in dealing with it, a reporters attempts to shed light on the cover up and a small group of disease researchers as they struggle to find the source of the virus and a cure.
The multiple story lines were a bit tricky to keep track of until towards the end when they dovetailed together. Yet I felt having the Multi-layers added to the story by giving it a fuller feeling.
I recommend this book to readers of Suspense Thrillers, Action and Apocalyptic genres.
