A young woman disappears and is feared dead, potentially murdered by her abusive husband - a handsome, shady thug with a violent reputation.
But as detectives Carly Sanderson and Sergio Martin look into the matter, they can’t find a body, and the husband has an iron-clad alibi.
He was killed earlier the same day.
Soon, it is obvious that no one connected to the case is telling the truth—not the mother who says the husband did it, not the sister who may have played a role in the crime, not the husband’s meticulous daily calendar…
Maybe not even the dead woman herself.
A great stand-alone book and a perfect addition to this brilliant series, Six Sisters will keep you guessing to the very end.

Edited to add*** this has been decided after a lot of thinking this is hands down my favorite book of 2023!!!
First off, I didn’t think I would like it the way I did. I was immediately captivated and invested. By chapter 5 I was blown away
I couldn’t figure out the direction the story was going meaning it was not predictable. I was half way in and still didn’t know where she was or who did it.
Sergio is my absolute favorite character
My favorite line is “or it’s a sin I know I know”- Sergio to his mom.
I’m angry how it ended bc I want more NOW!!
At the twist I was jaw on the floor you could not lift it with a scrapper. I literally was shocked!!
Okay now that my feels are out
The story is of a young married woman who goes missing after volunteering for a magic show act. Most of our fears are being chopped in half not going missing..
Well, her husband has an interesting alibi where it really couldn’t have been him. Because it’s always assumed it’s the husband.
Well if he didn’t do it who did… where is she.. is she alive…so much blood…how can she be alive…you’ll have to read it to find out!
Huge kudos to Skye Stafford the narrator she not only changes characters voices but has accents that are spot on. Making this 100% engaging! Great work!
Read or listen… I’d listen it’s great with Skye!
If I could give it 10 stars I would. I wouldn’t change a thing.
In the latest installment of the Double Blind series, "Six Sisters" by Dan Alatorre, the author showcases an exceptional command of narrative intricacy and character development. This standalone novel follows detectives Carly Sanderson and Sergio Martin as they confront a perplexing case involving the disappearance, and potentially the murder, of a young woman ensnared in a labyrinth of deception.
Alatorre skillfully crafts a plot that maintains an aura of suspense throughout, deftly weaving unexpected turns that keep readers engrossed until the final pages. The absence of predictability in the narrative is a testament to the author's storytelling prowess.
The brilliance of "Six Sisters" lies not only in its compelling crime narrative but also in the nuanced exploration of the protagonists' personal struggles. Carly and Sergio, faced with life-altering decisions, add a layer of authenticity to the storyline. The characters' depth and the seamless integration of their personal conflicts elevate this novel beyond the conventions of a standard crime thriller.
The chemistry between Carly and Sergio is portrayed with finesse, providing a delicate balance between the intensity of the investigation and the emotional resonance of their individual dilemmas. Alatorre manages to seamlessly blend elements of suspense, romance, and character growth, creating a narrative that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally satisfying.
The writing is nothing short of exceptional, with Alatorre demonstrating a keen ability to evoke a spectrum of emotions from readers. "Six Sisters" is a testament to the author's dedication to delivering a multifaceted reading experience that transcends genre boundaries.
I would give six stars to Six Sisters if I could. I actually didn't want the book to end. So many times I thought I knew where it was going, and nope. This is a neck twisting, head jerking, nail biting kind of Rollercoaster that I doesn't let up until you see "The End". Dan Alatorre puts the twist into twisty and the man knows how to leave you wanting more.
Carly Sanderson and Sergio Martin are back in book #6 of Dan Alatorre’s suspenseful and romantic Double Blind series. Although both detectives are in the book, their two stories are entirely separate. Also back is sexy PR consultant Averie Fox, who was bound to be a love interest for Sergio since her first appearance. Now, with Carly and Sergio taking a pause in their romance, Sergio is a free agent and Averie is very much available. Meanwhile, Carly gets some concerning news about her health and faces a difficult decision about how much to share with Sergio. These are the romantic subplots of this thriller, which skillfully balances a missing persons/murder investigation with the personal/romance issues.
The mystery/thriller plot here involves Gabriella, the miscreant daughter of the Tampa police commissioner (and, ultimately, Sergio’s and Carly’s boss). She has recently married a man with ties to the Miami mob. When she attends a magic show at the county fairgrounds, she disappears – literally – but leaves behind a trail of blood. She is missing and presumed dead and Sergio is assigned to track her down. After the book begins with a harrowing drug bust and chase through the Tampa sewer system, Sergio is immediately thrust into the non-stop investigation into Gabriella’s disappearance. Over two suspense and action-filled days, Sergio and Avery together follow the clues and unravel the mystery.
The author sets up a scenario where the reader easily figures out that Gabriella’s apparent murder is not what it seems. The fact that it occurs during a magic act where the participants are clearly engaged in an elaborate process of distraction and misdirection makes it pretty obvious that all things are not as they seem in the police investigation. The buxom blonde magician’s assistance who seems to know more than she’s letting on is herself quite distraction, even as Averie is also taking up a good amount of Sergio’s attention. The plot would have been a disappointment if it had gone the way it seemed to be going. But Alatorre makes sure to provide a twist that I did not see coming. Still, it was the romantic subplot that proved to be the more interesting and it’s that story that leaves the reader hanging by an emotional thread at the end.
There are a few places where the plot stretches the bounds of police procedural reality and a few loose ends that may leave questions in the minds of readers who look for every possible nit to pick, but these minor blemishes did not significantly diminish my overall enjoyment of the story. Call it 4.75 stars.
Six Sisters is a quickly-paced and engrossing read that will satisfy all the fans of this series and leave them anxious for more in the next book, for which there is a teaser at the end of the current book. For new readers, it will be time to go back and start from the beginning while waiting for book #7. I can easily recommend Six Sisters for every mystery/suspense fan and particularly those who enjoy a splash of romance.
This is my first read by this author I was asked to read this book by a friend of mine on TikTok, and I decided to go ahead and give it go. I did not read the previous books, but I saw that this was a standalone book so I knew it would be ok to read without getting lost. This book was actually a quick pace engrossing read. It starts off with a perplexing case involving a missing woman, potentially murdered by her abusive husband, who is later found murdered himself on the same day. As Carly and Sergio delve deeper into the case, they uncover a tangled web of lies and secrets, revealing that nothing is as it seems, and the truth may be more shocking than they ever anticipated.
From the outset, Alatorre sets a brisk pace, which drew in with a gripping narrative that maintains momentum from start to finish. The plot is intricately woven with twists and turns that challenged my assumptions, and kept me guessing until the very end. I am normally pretty good at guessing who the killer is or who did what but this book took me on a wild ride, and I couldn’t figure out the direction the story was going at all. Each revelation adds a new layer of complexity to the mystery, heightening the suspense and anticipation.
Central to the novel's success are the well-developed and compelling characters, particularly Carly and Sergio, whose dynamic partnership and complex relationship add depth and dimension to the story. Their interactions are infused with tension, humor, and genuine camaraderie, making them relatable and endearing protagonists. Additionally, Alatorre skillfully explores themes of domestic violence, family dynamics, loyalty, and justice, lending the narrative emotional resonance and thematic depth.
Moreover, the author's prose is sharp and evocative, which immersed me in the gritty world of crime-solving while also conveying the psychological nuances of the characters' experiences. The romantic subplot adds an extra layer of intrigue and complexity to the narrative, enriching my overall reading experience.
Police Chief's niece goes missing and the least likely people become suspects - 4.5 stars
While a suspected murder is the primary anchor of the plot, there is a second drama - the relationships between detective Sergio Martin and his supervisor Carly Sanderson, and between Sergio and Public Relations specialist, Avarie Fox, of the Tampa Police Department.
In the course of just over 48 hours, Sergio delivers heroism on a messed-up drug raid and then, without sleep, is thrust into a missing persons caper. The action is non-stop. As the police try to figure out who did what, procedural rules and instinctive reactions keep the story line changing from hour to hour.
The families of the police officers are important for keeping the focus on career and possible romantic involvement. Both Sergio's and Carly's mothers help to provide insights into their children's upbringing.
There were several exhibitionists who provocatively thrust their bodies into Sergio's space sufficiently to entice erotic behavior. Beyond the murder story and exhibitionism, what goes on in the private lives of Sergio, Avarie and Carly offers suspense and drama. Don't miss it.
Wow! This book is so full of unexpected twists that it will knock you off your seat!! Carly and Sergio are each facing personal conflicts in their lives that can be life changing. Sergio must decide if he is ready to take a risk and leave his past behind and move on. Carly must make decisions which could actually mean life or death for her. All the while, Sergio is facing one of his most baffling cases, the disappearance or the murder of the Chief's niece. The pieces don't fit together and he can't seem to find the missing puzzle piece that will complete the picture. Avarie is by his side while Carly is in the background as a sounding board. You will feel a full gambit of emotions from sadness, to anger, to elation while reading this book. You won't want to miss this chapter in Carly's and Sergio's lives. Can't wait for the next book in this series. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary honest review.
For starters, this book does fine as a standalone due to its well-developed characters and an easy-to-follow unwavering storyline, full of twists and turns that are engaging and exciting. Sergio and Carly are back bigger than ever! An audience participant goes missing from a magic show, and Sergio is on the job! Carly on the other hand, is super distracted with personal problems which leave the reader rather emotional at times, knowing the Carly we've come to love! This is certainly not the ass-kicker Carly we have followed through the Double Blind series. Averie is more than willing to fill Carly's void for Sergio...makes you wonder if this is a smart move or not?! Enough said, get this book (and all the others if you haven't read them yet) you will be hooked! Sergio and Carly are one of my favorite duos and the storylines by Mr. Alatorre NEVER get old. So, just one click now, you'll be glad you did. Highly recommend this book (AND SERIES).
Dan Alatorre has done it again! The Double Blind series is one of my favorite series and this 6th book definitely doesn’t disappoint! Sergio and Carly have been assigned the case of a missing young woman who disappeared during a magic act. Is she alive? Is she dead? What happened to her? The investigation is filled with twists and turns and everyone surrounding her could be a suspect! Add to that a possible romantic development too. Sergio is his usual self—jumping into dangerous situations with the only thought being to catch the bad guys without giving a thought to department policies. Carly doesn’t play as much of an active part of the investigation as she is dealing with her own personal problems but she still plays an integral part of the story. I love this series and I always get excited when another one is coming out! Be prepared to lose a lot of sleep over this book because you definitely won’t be able to put it down until the very end!
When an audience participant in a magic act disappears during the show and only blood splatter remains, Detectives Sergio and Carly are brought in to investigate. They find few clues that could lead to solving the crime. In a world of beautiful women and money, there are many distractions. The police department wants little bad publicity, engaging a beautiful press agent to cover the story. When Carly begins having medical problems, Sergio must do the work himself but, in doing so, he begins taking notice of the comely agent, complicating his relationship with his partner Carly. Soon these personal relationships become intertwined in ways Sergio and Carly have not foreseen. The apparent crime takes twists and turns with murder to follow.
The story has a well-thought-out plot line and provides some insights into the characters. It is nicely written and worth the read.
This book took me from thinking I’m a detective to the realization that I’m definitely not one, all in 471 pages!!
So many twists and turns. So many theories. And it was absolutely brilliantly done!! That’s how he gets ya 😎
I loved this book!! I loved the characters. I loved the intricate details within the plot. I loved the mystery and I LOVED the big bombshell ending!!
I completely fell in love with Sergio Martin, as one does. His mannerisms and his attitude were just so perfect! I will definitely be contemplating some crimes in the fictional Tampa area.
It was absolute perfection from start to finish. Never did I think that a mystery thriller would give me everything I want in a book… but here we are.
Dare I say book of the year? In February? Jeepers… it was just incredible!
A young socialite disappears from the stage of a sell-out magic show. The evidence points to murder but without a corpse Detective Sergio Martin is left trying to piece together a trail of disparate clues and evading witnesses. Carly’s personal problems prevent an active role which normally includes keeping Sergio out of trouble on the job. Avarie Fox from Public Relations is willing to fill that role and a few more where Sergio is concerned now that he and Carly are no longer together.
This well-written crime thriller kept me engrossed until the very end. I couldn’t stop reading! I am a huge fan of this series. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary. I am already eagerly waiting for the next book.
This is my first book by Dan Alatorre and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The story is a mystery/ thriller that keeps you guessing. I was totally engaged with the plot and the storyline. It is an excellent choice for listening on Audible! The narrator Sky Stafford is one of the best narrators I have ever heard. Her voice adds depth and variety to the characters. The story begins with the chief of police discovering that his niece is missing. He puts his lead detective Sergio on the case. What transpires is a brilliant cat and mouse game with murders, missing bodies and sly deceptions along the way. It is an intriguing and entertaining read for lovers of mystery and suspense!
Carly and Sergio are back. Sergio goes from one case to another. He gets called to a magic show where something has gone terribly wrong. A member of the audience was asked to be part of the act, but when the curtain is revealed, she is missing and there is an abundance of blood but no body. The prime suspect is her husband, but he has an unbreakable alibi – he was killed earlier that day. Can Sergio piece together the clues to solve what has happened? And what is up with Carly? She is busy with personal items affecting her health. Will she let Sergio know or keep it to herself?
While Carley deals with unexpected personal issues that could change her life forever, Sergio is assigned to a missing persons case involving the Chief's niece. This one is chocked full of suspense, surprises, great detective work and a whole lot of personal interactions and uncertainties that make the story interesting as much more than just a standard issue police procedures story. In my mind, this might well be Alattore's best book so far and would make a great Christmas present for a Carley and Sergio fan.
OK let me start by saying I need answer. You just can't do this to me. I'm so invested that this is wrong. With that being said 5stars hands down. It had me in a chokehold that I just couldn't put down. I had a wave of different emotions. One I know everyone is team Carly I don't like here. I'm 1000 percent team Avarie. Sergio is the man. As far as villian I hate Carly mom. She can go rot with the fishes. Didn't expect the end kinda but glad it happen the way it did. You Dan sir are a genius and you know how to tell a darn good story.
How can it all fit together to create an impossible to solve murder? Or is it murders?
Detective Sergio Martin has to figure it all out in order to solve this case. Does he? Maybe. Maybe not.
Only the ending tells the truth. Don’t bother reading the ending first. You won’t understand the brilliance of it all without reading the book before the ending comes into play.
Thank you, Mr. Alatorre, for an exciting read. I’m ready for your next story. Please don’t make me wait too long.
Carly and Sergio are back in another terrific and fast-paced addition to this series! I am loving this series and look forward to each book! This one hit a close to home for me and really pulled my emotions into it - which, for me, is usual for a thriller. Carly is a bit on the sidelines in this book, as she is dealing with health issues and a cancer diagnosis, and I was reading this one waiting on results for my own cancer diagnosis. The audio narration is well done and made an absolutely fantastic listening experience!
Life changes, as well as relationships, and both - Carly and Sergio - are facing the most challenging decisions in their lives. One has to leave the past behind, the other has to take action to have a future. The case Sergio is in charge of is also baffling as nothing seems as it is. Six Sisters has a great storyline, it's well-written, and the ending makes the reader wish for the next book to be published asap. I thank Mr. Alatorre for this ARC.
A beautiful celebrity vanishes after volunteering for a magician. The police find some blood and she is presumed dead. However, there is no body. Once again Carly is partnered with Sergio to find the missing lady and her husband who is a suspect. Both are caught up in a web of intrigue and deceit. Another page turner in the Carly and Sergio series which had me riveted by the twists and turns. A well crafted plot which ended on a surprising note
It was my 1st time reading this author, and I'm so glad I found him. I absolutely loved the wide variety of characters from all walks of life. I loved the mystery and all the different scenarios presented to the reader, and most of all, I loved how the ending caught me totally off guard. The mystery remained intact through the whole book, and I never knew what direction it would go, and I couldn't put the book down.
I’ve read a few of his series now and this one isn’t the best. It does have an interesting plot, with lots of little sideline’s happening, but I can’t seem to get over Sergio’s beard being mentioned soooo much, and how he always rubs his hands over it, it’s like it has to be on almost every page. With a lot of things happening the ‘crime’ is solved but other stories within the book just keep going….this is my last to read. Whiskers/beard and all.
Six Sisters: a fast paced murder mystery (Double Blind Book 6), my seventeenth read from author Dan Alatorre. I really enjoyed his Gamma Sequence series, this is another page-turning thriller, the sixth in the series, in my opinion, his best to date! I look forward to the next book in the Double-Blind series. "I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
As the title reads, Always a good read. Alatorre Is very capable of giving you A good detective yarn With a Believable plot And Interesting characters. This particular series Leads me to want more With the With the characters. The human foibles Of our primary Actors Are believable. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon In a big chair with a hot drink and a warm lap robe.
This book is fantastic! I couldn't put it down. There was just so much going on, so many questions, and not just about the mystery. I was on the edge of my seat from the first chapter! I can't wait for the next book! This whole series is excellent, and Six Sisters is my new favorite. Highly recommended read!
Once again this author has hit it out of the park. Love these characters. The storyline keep me guessing to the end. The case itself was pretty much Sergios to handle while Carly dealt with a personal life or death situation. Averie tried to find her place in all this Admit to mixed feelings about it all since i love Carly and Sergio And at moment totally dislike Carlys mom
This was a wonderfully written fast-paced mystery that follows Sergio as he tries to uncover the mystery of the disappearance and possible Murder of the chief of police's niece from a magic show. The story also dvelves deeper into Sergio's and Avery's relationship. I received a free copy of the book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
A great mystery with some surprising twists that will keep you turning pages trying to figure it out. When socialite disappears during a magic show and is presumed dead, Carly and Sergio have a tough case to solve. An interesting cast of characters make their job more difficult. This was an entertaining and enjoyable read.
Omg this book was so good. So I was in a reading rut and I decided to pick a different genre and I came across this book. From the moment I started reading it I literally couldn’t put it down. The banter the mystery the whole did it will keep you on your toes. I highly recommend this book. I absolutely loved it. I’ve been telling everyone about it. So go read it.
I started this book not knowing there was an entire series behind it. I spoke to the author, which was so nice! He said it can he read the way i did it. It was easy to fall into this story. I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. This is my FIRST book that was not fantasy. I absolutely loved it. I’m going back for more!!! I gave it 5 stars but it deserves 10.
