I said I was going to read this slowly, but that wasn't possible. In the last two Haven House books, there was an up and down with the action and twists. I didn't find that to be the case in this third book. We have a quick recap at the start to remind us of a few things, but that's all you get before it takes off.
In the first two books, I thought Jamison was fun, but she was never my favorite until the graveyard scene. At the end of book two, I was a little disappointed we didn't get to see some action between her and Liam, but I understood that those two books were Samuel and Evie's stories.
In this third book, we get that action! OMG. Listen to me. I love Liam Cohen, and to know that's how he lays it down in the bedroom? I get flustered every time I try to talk about it. He's smart, sexy, and a mild dom, which is perfect for Jamison's personality. I might have to read that crawl scene a few more times.
The emotional side of their relationship nearly did me in. It hit close to home. It's easy to feel alone even when surrounded by people who love you.
Annabeth is getting everything she deserves with Rowan. I was fanning myself during the bookstore chapter. Between Rowan and Liam, the steam level in this book is much higher, and I absolutely ate it up.
We do go back to the past again, but not as much as the other two books. It was bittersweet. Charlie was a surprise. Seeing his side of things made him slightly more likable, and that feels weird to say. The author excels at turning your opinions on the bad guys around and making them almost relatable.
And since we're talking about bad guys, I do want to say that the cult thing was great. I have a little experience with this. Hello, religious trauma. There were descriptions and small things spread throughout that had me nodding my head. The mystery in this book is why is this person doing this to the family. I have my theories.
The cliffhanger was like taking a baseball bat hit to the face. There's a warning, and the first book ended on a cliffhanger, so I was mentally prepared, or so I thought.
I am dying for book four. Dying.
