It’s about the individuality of womanhood. The way she is, the way she survives with the phenomenal courage and existence. Her phases of life through which she grows older and proud at the end of the journey of her life. Confident, arrogant perhaps, as she had dealt with every situation alone and with the best of her inner values. Her persona makes her stand in her old age with that pride of her very own, intrinsic, honest soul. Being with anyone or being without anyone, she is going to build an empire of her solitude, her love, her values and her immense care which she has for others, as she had been born with the innate love to share, she was born with affection to share. She is amazing; the way she lives, and deals with life. The movement of every inch of her body and the grace of every pinch of her soul is so on point that you are afraid of touching her because the shimmer is going to glow on your fingertips and that sparkle will never leave your fingers, tantalizing you, making you yearn to reach towards her untouchable soul once again.
"Fixing" revolves around the four transformation stages of women's life. "Someone is so uprising that can change your life, For example;" Yourself".
When a baby girl is born, the mother wants to make her a fighter and a brave girl. She makes her daughter to learn the art of protecting herself from the wolves of the society. She helps her in building her own standards for life and she teaches her child to not let the society defines her strengths & weaknesses. Her mother doesnot want her to find a perfect man rather she wants to find a pure gentleman for her princess who supports her struggles & gathers her chaos when she falls. And then comes the 2nd stages, "They promised, they care, they share. In the end, Darling, You will cry harder & start a new chapter" When the little girl is growing up, she practically experiences the realities of this world. She is naive regarding the behaviors and actions of the vultures and she trusts them easily. She doesnot know anything about betrayal & disloyalty. She is full of love. But soon this innocent creature explores the dark side of these (so-called) loved ones that eventually makes her sad, hurt & devastated. But she knows that she was raised by a warrior mother so this little girl gathers her courge and stand up for herself again. This time she is fragile but now she has become a strong girl just like her mother wanted to see her. In the 3rd stage, "Learn the art of being discreet" After fighting with her demoms, this young girl is now ready to conquer the world through her magical soul. She has understood the realities of everything & everyone. She has filled her scars and is ready to fly in the Universe. She is brave and she is moving on. And when 4th stage starts, "Women, do it yourself, you will be happy & prosperous"
This young girl is now a complete woman who has learned how to control her sentiments & emotions. She herself has amended the broken parts of her soul. She is now a wise woman who takes her decisions on facts not on worldly attraction. And she has finally found the inner voices of her soul which will be a guiding star in her another journey of life.
What do I say about this book? Apart from the fact that it's amazingly woven through the thoughts of a bold young lady, it's stunningly deep and beautiful. I mean it's all about the phases of a girl's life. How a girl, in her teenage - dependent on her father, craves for that unrequited feeling of love that she has only seen in movies or read about in books. Then, she grows up and finally holds the hands of a man that is not her father. Then there comes a phase when her heart is broken and her hopes shattered. It's that phase where she must learn to accept her marvellous ness. It's that phase where she must need to understand that her power lies beyond one person. And then comes the phase when she's stronger than she's ever been. She is bold and independent and she knows it.
It's all about a chaotic journey from being a girl to a woman and then transforming into a sensible lady. One might think that all the poetry books are about women empowerment these days - or almost all or most of them are about the strength of women, YES - you might be right. Because in a society we live, girls are not given their freedom of decisions by default. They have to prove themselves worthy of the powers. And in our male oriented and male dominant socities, it's a not a piece of cake for women to achieve that spot. Though I don't think women need empowerment from external sources. Women are given a separate status and rights from their birth. I'm not your typical aurat march type of a feminist and I know the difference between 'a woman being independent' and 'a foolish girl trying to intimidate men and prove that she is an independent woman'. Respect yourself girls, prioritize your self respect above your heart's desires. Don't blame others for breaking your heart, know your worth yourself first! 🌸 Ps: while reading the poems, I decided to speak about all this. Yes, this book was that good ❤
"Yes just hold hands in hands Take the knots and bands We would be settling away We would get beyond the grey"
"I found my life and breaths back when I learned to let it go & overcome my fears. Everything was a mess but eventually I became a Warrior & Braver."
First of all thank you so much Humaira Amjad for sending your book my way. Sometimes the universe works in amazing ways because I received this book just at the right time. I have been going through a bit of self doubt and other personal things lately. Reading all these deep, intense poems by Humaira, written specifically about us women was what I needed, literally.
This book is comprised of all sorts of random poems about being a girl and a women. The whole journey of our womenhood entwined with metaphors that each one of us can interpret in our way. Cause I know my friends who read this book could relate to so many poems just like me. Some of these poems were so liberating and full of encouragement.
This book is a gift to all us girls. From now on whenever you feel confused about your self or somehow lost your self worth, read this book to come out of that darkness. Remember that you are loved, you are unique in your own way and that your dreams are worth fighting for.
From the book: Come & read to me, Take off those silk curtains I have built the library of your favorite subjects I heard; once, I was your best book.
Poetry has become my most favorite genre since a past couple of months. It is one great style of writing, where a writer depicts fewer lines, and they articulate deep emotions discreetly. The emotions and thoughts expressed in poetry gives you the liberty to explain the essence of its pieces in multiple ways. So was this book, I finished it in just 25 minutes. I was reading it with a voice up, and could feel the journey the author presented through her various life's ups and downs. This is a book dedicated to all women.
From the book: Dad's little girl is grown up... she still wants to hold strong hands, but; this time, not Dad's.
The flow of pages in small verses is highly addictive. As long as the incantation (A series of words said as a magical spell or charm) is there, you really can't put off, and this book has done this. In the end, congratulations to our Pakistani poetess for showcasing her great literary work.
By my side, Fixing is masterpiece. I’m Surprised k itna acha koi kesay likh sakta hai. Fixing is the Book that every girl should have. Is mai har larki ki Zindgi k different phases hain, jab wo teenage mai hoti hai, then she fall in love and then she meets to the realities and Face the Problems that comes in her life. The Author wants to feel every woman through her words that she is brave, she is strong, she can face all the Problems with courage. And Now its up to you, how you understands her words.🔥🖤❤️
The title of the book says it all. I absolutely loved it. I could relate to it.🥰 A book about loving yourself first, growing up and moving on🥀😍 This collection of poetry was gorgeous. I took as much time as I could with them. Full of emotion and so meaningful. Empowering. It gives the word "selfish" a whole new meaning: yes I'll love my self first, I'll prioritize me. I come first. I deserve happiness too.🌹
"My red lipstick marks on your collars, I leaned over you not to kiss you but to whisper in your ears "I WIN". Fixing is a short book of poetic verses that transcend the eras of time. The poems are short and clipped with words that rhyme and meanings that chime. The book basically revolves around womanhood and challenges that it makes a woman face. Quite like the 'milk and honey' of rupi kaur, Humaira's book also revolves around different phases in a woman's life. It starts with women trying to find their individuality in the whole wide world. It goes on to explain how each woman has a warrior of her own inside of her and in the end it gives the message of having enough courage to stand as their own person. In doing all of this, what Humaira does so beautifully is that she didn't for a moment let women abandon their womanhood or their sensuality. To become their own heroes they don't need to renounce their femininity. They can be equally badass in their silk gown, red lip tint and high heels. All in all, it was a quick and uplifting read perfect for a pick-me-up if you're ever questioning your individuality.
