Uses thoughtful observations about birds to illustrate the Christian's spiritual walk through life, blending lively descriptions of the natural world with insights about the author's own experiences of living out her faith and tips on how to get the most out of bird watching. Original.
Laurie Kehler's passion for nature comes from years spent scuba diving in Australia, backpacking in Yosemite, ziplinging in Canada, and swimming across Lake Tahoe.
Laurie wants to help sojourners who are disenchanted with life and disconnected from God find solace for their scattered soul.
I have had this book in my personal library for several years. It is a paper back but one of those beautiful paper backs that draws you in in. You pick it up and you know it's going to be good. And it is. I really enjoyed the authors insight to the bird world and her comparison to our our world. I love her outlook on life and how her love for God shines through. She is encouraging, honest and loving. I highly recommend this book to anyone.
I really enjoyed this approach to Christian devotion. I recommend it and her other book - This Outside Life - to Christians who encounter/experience God in nature.
I have had this book for years. I have never taken the time to sit down and really read it. This is a lovely book and came at such a timely place in my life. I have been struggling with comparing my life to what I perceive other people's lives to be and that is surely the road to misery. But still I sometimes find it so difficult to be grateful and to practice gratitude, even for myself. It was so refreshing and heartwarming to have this author relate her own struggles and continuing struggles in this same area. It is for sure a daily work in progress.
I love feeding the birds who come to my garden so this was a perfect combination for me, I learned a lot about the birds and she tiedit in so nicely with what is going on with most of us.
This is a must read for anyone who struggles with envy, dissatisfaction and general unhappiness. It was so thought provoking for me and really has me pondering some of the things I do and how I conduct my life.
Chickadees, Orioles and Goldfinches will become more familiar to you after you read Laurie Kehler’s Wings of Mercy. And with the subtitle Spiritual Reflections from the Birds of the Air, the author pairs each bird song with a lesson in faith from God’s sanctuary. Devotional in tone though illustrative of Kehler’s knowledge of ornithology, this book would make the perfect gift for those who appreciate nature, bird lovers or not.
