Humans don’t get along with the galaxy’s other races… …if they want to survive what’s coming, they’ll have to learn how.
During a routine territory skirmish with the Hypirions, an alien race hostile toward humans, a mysterious third party attacks. With no other options, Commander Shawn Pace and his human soldiers suspend their conflict with the Hypirions and unite against the new threat.
As a prime witness and survivor, Pace is tasked with discovering the source of this menacing intrusion and helping to bring it to an end. Leading a unique squad, including a few genetically altered humans he’d rather omit from his team, Pace delves deep into the heart of an enigmatic galaxy far larger and more horrifying than he could have ever conceived.
As each new dreadful discovery only leads to more questions, Pace begins to recognize a malevolent reality looming on the galactic horizon.
Can Pace and his team unravel the truth and stop this force before it spreads out of control?
Or has the emergence of this new threat already condemned the galaxy?
Terra Emergence is the first book of Luke Messa’s action-packed Military Space Opera series. Fans of Chris Fox’s Void Wraith series and Scott Moon’s Brothers in Arms series will love this book. Get it now!
I don't typically go for military Sci-Fi but this one sounded intriguing. Shortly after I had added it to my "want to read" list a friend mentioned to me I might like this book, she had really enjoyed it and thought it might be right up my alley.
I wasn't 100% sure I was going to like it at first but the further in I got the more I started to enjoy the story and characters. There were a few phrases and word selections that distracted me from the story and it made me wonder if the rest of the book was going to be like that. And though occasionally throughout I hit a couple word/phrase "speed bumps" if you will, I really ended up liking this story. It's a cool world build with a premise that is seemingly unique/original.
It ended on a bit of a cliffhanger so I knew book 2 would have to be read sooner rather than later. I usually wait weeks or months between books in a series but after three failed attempts to find my next e-book read I opted to start book 2 in this series. The fact that a day and a half went by before I started book 2 is a sign that I liked this more than I realized.
I had the opportunity to "beta read" this book, and I was very impressed. While military Sci-Fi isn't my go-to genre, I wouldn't have missed this read for anything. While set in a Galactic, military world build, the story itself delivers excellent pacing with action, intelligence, cheeky humor, strong character development and an evolving relational dynamic so lost in todays modern material. It kept me up reading, a solid story told with real heart. I highly recommend this read. I can see this being a movie. It would be brilliant! (The sequels are a must, the author leaves us wanting MORE!!)
Emergence is the first book in a scifi series with aliens, colony planets, space craft (of course) space battles (aren't those the best kind?), spiders (I could do without those), zombies (well, they don't call them that, but... yeah). and of course, more aliens. The ending is especially frustrating, not only for me as a reader, but of course for the main character and others as well, though the very end is one heck of a foreshadowing, and now I need to read book 2 just to see how that scene plays out. Good stuff here, even if it did take me several weeks to read it, because I kept getting distracted with other books. Looking forward to the next one.
There were a few parts that didn't seem super well thought out, especially in regards to military protocols and hierarchy, etc, but otherwise, it was a great read. Military scifi with just a little dash of horror. Series has great potential, and there is some foreshadowing that has me eagerly looking forward to the next book(s)
Great start to a new series and I can't wait to start the next book. The action is fast-paced and full of intrigue. The characters are strong and easy to get behind. I really like this book and I highly recommend it.
