Busted elevators, broken gates, crack vials, and dusty Section 8 apartments is what you’ll find when you step into the Brick City Projects. There’s a hustle ensuing on each floor because no matter the circumstances, there is always money to be made. If you don’t know this building and these streets, you might wanna watch yaself because the Brick City Boys are always lurking, the boosters be boosting, and the trick jawns be tricking.
You never know what you’ll get when you enter the projects, but it’s for sure going to be an experience you’ll never forget. Welcome to the Trenches – Brick City, Pennsylvania.
This was a great series. All the authors in each story did a great job portraying what Brick City Projects was all about. Although it wasn't the best place to live, the characters would forever call Brick City home even after they found success. Yes, there may have been drama, but in Brick City, you had everything you could possibly need without stepping foot outside the gate. What I truly loved was their loyalty and sense of family amongst them. Really enjoyed this series.
Where does this drug addicted mom concept come from? It was pretty much in every story from book 1 to book 5 and that’s not even common in the black community. Pretty much the women either had drug addicted moms or moms who hated them. While most urban fiction have men with loving moms. Like what? Where does that concept stem from. I grew up in urban areas and that was not common at all. If anything, it was absent fathers. But that’s it. Left a sour taste in my mouth after a while because the books can still be good without it. It’s not like it’s a key factor throughout the story. Because the book usually goes on to portray an adult on her own. Okay. You don’t need that concept to portray that. It’s okay to have a struggling adult with supportive parents. We see it every day. But that’s drug addicted mom who left hers kids. Dead that. Every story had not. Now as soon as I see it in a book, imma DNF! Then the story with the struggling stripper. How she used to work at Mc Donald’s and left but still living like she work at Mc Donald’s. She was a bum. No car and no place of her own but struggling financially. Soooo she could’ve stayed at McDonalds. She taking off her clothes to live like that. Seriously? Go back to McDonalds for that.
Jamesha and Dizzy!! He was right he gonna have her ghetto and bougie!! Love them!! What Mr. Biggs told Quay…”The life you choose to live, comes with rewards or consequences. You either enjoy the fuck out of life, or you live life wishing you did.” Quay and Pretty were so cute, hopefully we get an update on all these couples!! Panda and Brisco lord he was all she needed!! Her momma was straight trash just like Quays!! Cario and Milan from a one night stand to forever…she’s his lil duck off!! One thing about Brick City Projects is that everyone takes care of their own. Papi’s Bodega seems to be the spot to be. Mane brick city ain’t no joke but it sure taught these couples how to get it out the mud!!
Brick City Projects may seem like it's full of poverty, broken promises and broken dreams, but it definitely build a lot of the residence strength and resilience. While some was comfortable with the way they were living. Many of them made it out and became successful but never forgot where they came from. Once again these Authors executed and penned stories that are a lot of people reality. They made the good outweigh the bad
This anthology did not disappoint! All five volumes came with that heat! Good job to all the authors that contributed to this project! What I like most, is how some of the stories incorporated some of our favorite characters & places from past stories (Jagoda City & Paradise Bay) I thought that was really dope.
All the stories in volume 5 was fire 🔥. I would love ❤️ an extended version of each . I feel like I could get an apartment in the Bricks, get my hair braided , grab some food from Triece and get a sitter . I love how the negative and positives are shown . I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys raw make you feel like you're there reads .
