Ten days, two rivals, and a busload of tourists. How bad could it be?

For archaeologist Emilia Flores, landing a fellowship to work at the ancient ruins of Pompeii in Italy is a dream come true. The only catch? She’ll be digging alongside her infuriating nemesis, TJ Mayer, who’s been a constant thorn in her side.

TJ isn’t about to pass up the Pompeii project. Sure, he’ll be stuck working with Emilia, but he thrives on challenging her. And he hasn’t forgotten that secret kiss they shared at an archaeology conference last winter.

Though unearthing Pompeii’s treasures might be a dream, student debt is a nightmare that never takes a vacation. So, when TJ and Emilia are offered a lucrative side job to lead a ten-day tour through Southern Italy, they grudgingly agree to tackle it together.

Forced to set aside their animosity and work as a team, they forge an unexpected camaraderie. As the sparks between them ignite, their rivalry gives way to passion, making it easy to forget their years of fierce competition. But what happens when the tour ends and the real world steps in?

Tour Wars is a rivals-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine romance featuring a nerdy cinnamon roll hero, a strong-willed Latina heroine, and plenty of hotel hijinks. It can be read as a standalone.

Before I get into this review I want to thank the author for providing me with an ecopy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I've read the first 2 books in this series and loved both of them so when the opportunity came up to read this one I could't say no. This is the 3rd book in the Romancing the Ruins series. The first book was a second chance romance, the second was a friends to lovers and this one was enemies to lovers. Honestly I love all of those tropes so this series is perfect for me. I'm still loving the archeological aspect of the books. I find it fascinating although I will say this one was less about the archeological aspect and more about the tours of the places but we still get some history lessons. This book is about Emilia and TJ and they are both academic rivals. We get to slowly see them come to care for each other throughout the book. My only complaints about this book is that the romance took too long to happen and when it did happen we didn't get enough of it. Just like with the previous books though the tension was palpable and I loved the banter between them. Overall another great addition to this series.

Suddenly I’d like to be back in Italy. Tour Wars was so FUN. The plot of academic rivals/archaeologists, Emilia and TJ, being forced to host a 10 day long tour together in Italy felt so fresh to me since I’ve never read anything like it.

I’d enjoyed so many aspects of this book. I honestly thought some of the historical fact parts would bore me, but they were written so well!! Learned about Vestal Virgins which are super cool, wished I was one but I got half of that part at this point 😔😔😔. The side characters were actually memorable!! The cute like golden girl gang on their tour was my fav. I especially loved how the author included how women (especially POC women) are mistreated in the workplace, especially in male-dominated fields. All those scenes were infURIATING but soooo necessary bc that’s REAL LIFE unfortunately. Having the one prick be absolutely insufferable and say spicy Latin blood?? MY BLOOD was boiling.

Emilia and TJ’s relationship was a rollercoaster for sure but such a fun ride. I loved their bickering, but also their strategic way of riling each other up. The sexual tension was through the ROOF. But I also loved watching Emilia’s heart thaw a bit for TJ and knowing that TJ always had a soft spot for her and has her back.

My only issue with this book is that I felt the middle 50% was a bit long and that the ending could have been longer. The conflict was a bit predictable, but I didn’t have an issue with that. I just wish that TJ put in a little more work earlier to get back in Emilia’s good graces.

Overall, a fun read!! Thank you to Carla Luna for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Who knew debating the collapse of the Bronze Age would be the hottest dirty talk I’ve read all year??? And yet here I am, looking at airbnbs in Italy. And also checking out ancient Egypt books from the library because this story has revived my life long fascination with ancient civilizations.

This is my first Carla Luna book and it worked as a stand alone by was clear there were cameos from previous couples so I’ll have to go back and read their stories.

This is such a fun, entertaining, good read. TJ and Emilia are interesting, relatable, entertaining, complex, intriguing, captivating characters. I enjoyed them as individual and a couple. Their romance is very fitting for these characters. I love how everything played out in the end – gotta love just desserts 😊. I enjoyed going along for the ride with Emilia and TJ. The secondary characters added to the fabric of the story. I love that we got to see so much of the couples from the other books in the series. The people on the tour added quirkiness and fun to the story and my enjoyment. The story is easy to read and get into. While this is the third book in the series you don’t have to read the previous two to enjoy it. Having said that, it is worth your time to read the whole series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I've been waiting for TJ to get his story since the first book in this series, Field Rules. TJ, once a braggy side character who served as comic relief, comes into his own as a fully realized character in Tour Wars. Pitted against his academic rival Emilia, whom he secretly admires (swoon!), on a dig in Pompeii, TJ must team up with Emilia to lead a bus tour through historical sites in Italy. Amid challenges with the tourists and a chauvinistic tour monitor, TJ and Emilia grow closer. But with the insecurity of postgraduate life, can they find their way to an HEA? Come for the rivals-to-lovers romance, stay for the gorgeous descriptions of Italy, Italian food, and life on an architectural dig. You'll be planning your own trip to Tuscany by the time you're done!

This is my first book by Carla Luna and I wasn’t disappointed. I don’t usually read books out of order but as this is a standalone it is wasn’t an issue.

TJ and Emilia are archaeologists and due to limited academic positions and conflicting opinions on the Bronze Age they’re academic rivals. Which I always love! They are forced to pair up to lead a tour through Southern Italy. This leads to them becoming reluctant friends when they realise they have more in common than they thought. Their connection deepens throughout the trip and becomes a little steamy!

The banter and tension was really on point in this book. Easy, fun and lighthearted read that I really enjoyed. I think a lot of people will be able to relate to the main characters and their struggles. However, please check the trigger warnings before reading.

Thank you to the author for the ARC through Booksprout. My review is my honest opinion on this book ✨

Carla Luna's "Tour Wars" takes the "slow burn" concept and turns it into a simmering Italian pot, filled with delicious banter, heartwarming growth, and a romance that unfolds like a perfectly aged Chianti. Em and TJ, rivals extraordinaire, are forced to co-lead a tour of southern Italy, and let's just say, sparks fly hotter than the Neapolitan sun.
This isn't your typical enemies-to-lovers trope. Em and TJ's antagonism feels real, fuelled by professional competition and clashing personalities. But Luna masterfully chips away at their defenses, revealing vulnerabilities and hidden depths. We see Em's fierce passion tempered by TJ's easygoing charm, while TJ's laid-back facade crumbles under Em's unwavering determination. Their witty jabs gradually morph into playful teasing, their competitive spirit into a shared drive for success.
The journey is far from smooth. From fumbled tourist encounters to unexpected detours, Luna throws in hilarious situations that keep the pages turning. But it's the emotional evolution that truly shines. We witness Em learning to loosen up, embrace spontaneity, and appreciate TJ's unique perspective. In turn, TJ discovers the power of dedication and the joy of working alongside someone who challenges him.
But the true magic lies in the respect and support that blossom between them. They uplift each other, celebrate each other's victories, and offer unwavering support during moments of doubt. This supportive dynamic elevates the romance, making it feel genuine and grounded.
If you're a fan of slow-burn rom-coms with a little spice and personal growth, "Tour Wars" is your literary vacation. Luna's skill in crafting characters who engage in witty banter, undergo beautiful transformations, and ultimately, experience a charming love story is evident.
Bonus points for:
• The vivid descriptions of Italy that transport you right into the heart of its vibrant culture.
• The heartwarming glimpses into the lives of the other "Love in Ruins" couples, adding a touch of nostalgia and familiarity.
• The satisfying conclusion that leaves you feeling happy, fulfilled, and ready to book your own Italian adventure.
So, pack your bags, grab your sunscreen, and dive into "Tour Wars." It's the perfect escape for anyone seeking a romance that simmers with humor, respect, and a love story that unfolds as beautifully as the Italian countryside.

Refreshing! I needed this. With all the dark romance I've been reading, I missed the cozy romantic vibes of Carla Luna's complex characters and enchanting locations.

Dr. Emilia Flores is an archaeobotantist looking for a teaching job, but she'll take anything including an archaeological dig in Pompeii with her archnemesis Dr. TJ Mayor, a lithics specialist. It's the moonlighting job as tour guides in Italy that Emilia and TJ open up and learn they have much more in common than just archaeology.

Emilia may not be the most likeable character. Her grumpy attitude and lack of social skills make her a tough sell in job interviews. It's sad to see TJ walking on eggshells around her just to avoid provoking her. However, as the story progresses, Emilia starts to open up to new friends and especially to TJ. It's heartwarming to see her walls come down, only to be dealt another blow.

TJ may come off as a little full of himself at first. All he wants is to make his family proud of him. However, he soon realizes that there's more to life than just his career. He does the right thing by defending Emilia and risking his career to do so. His gregarious nature and love for playing the piano make him all the more charming. Nerdy guys are my jam and his honesty and respect for Emilia make him a truly admirable character.

Carla Luna's books are always filled with history lessons and interesting factoids. The beautiful scenery and archaeology references are captivating and informative. One of my favorite quotes from the book is "you miss one hundred percent of the shots you don't take." This is an important life lesson for young and old alike reminding us that we should never be afraid to take chances.

It's heartwarming to see how everyone rallies around Emilia and TJ. Emilia's friends are true lifesavers. When she's at her lowest, they give her a place to stay and a job to get her back on her feet. Also, TJ's and Emilia's new friends don't hesitate to help TJ avenge Emilia.

I highly recommend this book. The characters are endearing and the settings are gorgeous. So grab a copy of this book, a cup of tea, and prepare to be transported to the charming Italian countryside.

Thank you to Ms. Luna for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Tour Wars is Book 3 of the Romancing the Ruins series and follows TJ and Emilia in this enemies-to-lovers nerdy romance set in Italy.
Italy, y’all.
Like, bucket-list-trip Italy.

But then you have to think, these 2 are archeologists. Emilia and TJ have just defended their doctoral dissertations and are now on the hunt for a job in the extremely competitive field of archeology. They both end up on a dig at Pompeii, doing what they love, but they are tour guides on the weekends –something they aren’t really enthused about, but they’re good at. When the two of them are tasked to lead a ten-day tour of Italy, they realize, maybe there’s more between them than just fighting with each other.

This is a flirty, maddening slow burn type of novel. Emilia and TJ bicker back and forth with each other, but you know they secretly love the fights, and are possibly digging each other. They make little digs (corny pun intended) and snarky flirty comments to each other, and eventually each realizes something might be happening here. So delicious y’all.

Well, in between all that deliciousness, you learn a little something too. You get a slice of the life of an archeologist (it ain’t all Indiana Jones and The Mummy y’all), what it’s like for a tour guide, (I had no idea we tourists were so annoying), and an appreciation for earlier civilizations. I loved that about this book. I even got a tip or two about traveling to the Amalfi Coast–one of my bucket list trips.

And here’s a rundown if you’re wondering about the small stuff:
yes, this is steamy.
Yes this is hilariously funny.
And yes, check your trigger warnings.
This is book 3, but it is a standalone complete with HEA. Books 1 and 2 focus on two other couples in their friend group, so while you feel at times, you’d probably be “in the know” more by reading books 1 and 2, you’ll still get a satisfying story starting with this one.

Overall, this was a cute, spicy romcom with a lot of nerdy and a lot of heart. I was rooting for these two to win, and you will too.

This book stands alone easily, however, if you've read the previous books, you know that TJ and Emilia have had quite the academic and personal rivalry going throughout the previous books, notwithstanding bonding over playing matchmaker in Troy Story, and a scorching hot kiss at the annual Classical Archeology conference. In this book, after both of them miss out on achieving their dreams of a tenure track academic position, they find themselves working together again at a large summer dig in Pompeii. Although neither wants to admit their simmering attraction, the sparks are flying fast and furious between them.

To make a little extra money, they both have been leading half day tours of Pompeii for a tour company owned by a relative of the professor in charge of the dig. When they are placed in the rather awkward position of co-leaders of a 10 day tour through southern Italy, their begrudging attempts to smoothly work together quickly turn into mutual admiration and growing respect for each other's abilities and styles.

Emilia is fierce and passionate. She faces challenges as a woman in a male dominated field that have forced her to toughen up and fight for her career. TJ, on the other hand, is the laidback charmer for whom advancement seemingly comes easier. Opposites truly do attract, especially when their career passions and goals are so similar.

I loved their banter as well as their sense of fun and adventure and the good natured way in which they both worked hard and without complaint to make the tour a success. There wasn't as much of an archeology focus in this book, but the tour through one of my favorite countries in the world was great. I've been to most of the places mentioned and it was fun to revisit them. I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Ten days, two rivals, and a busload of tourists. How bad could it be?

My Opinion

This was the first book I have read in this Romancing the Ruins series and I was able to follow it without issues. Emilia and TJ are academic rivals and with the way Carla Luna has written this book you can just feel the tension between the pair. With this book, Carla will take you on an educational trip to Italy with some great banter thrown in. Overall I thought this was an entertaining read.

This was the second book I have read by Carla Luna and both have been a third book in the series - I really do need to make an effort to read more as I do enjoy the writing style.

This was a rivals to lovers grumpy/sunshine romantic comedy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters showed growth, were realistic and relatable. The story was tragic, heartwarming as hilarioys. Highly recommend!

Emilia Flores graduated from Yale with a PhD degree in archaeology and speaks four languages. Not being from a wealthy background she has had to scramble for every bit of financial assistance available and still has considerable student loans.

TJ Mayer graduated from Harvard with a PhD degree in archaeology and is smugly confident. He is a braggert.

They are academic rivals and he is her personal nemesis. They end up competing for the same academic positions. Emilia is thrilled to have landed a fellowship to work at the ruins of Pompeii only to find out TJ is there too. To earn more money they volunteer to guide tours of the ruins on the weekends. The tour company owned by the brother of the dig director asks them to lead a 10 day tour of southern Italy after the regular guide gets injured. The sleazy nephew of the tour company owner, Luca, will be on the tour to see if his father wants to invest in the company. They have a few minor glitches but all the tourist have a great time. Emelia and TJ fall in love. Luca makes a pass at Emilia and when she turns him down takes revenge by telling lies to his uncles. Emelia loses both jobs and goes back to the States while TJ continues on the dig. TJ convicts a plan to avenge Emelia and the goes back to the States. They reconcile and get their dream jobs and HEA.

Carla Luna nails it again in Tour Wars, the third novel in her Romancing the Ruins series. It’s an enemies to lovers trope and features Emilia and TJ. The thing I love, love, love about this novel, is the ending. It is sooooo satisfying. It’s not necessary to enjoy this novel, but if you’ve read the first two books in her series, you’ll know that TJ is incredibly annoying because, according to him, he’s been everywhere and knows everything. He’s also a guy you can count on when things go pear shaped. He is frustratingly loveable. Emilia, on the other hand, is all business. She’s driven, follows the rules, and will not tolerate any nonsense—especially TJ’s brand of nonsense. She’s also a brilliant archeologist and a loyal friend—impossible not to love. Completely opposite from TJ. When her career path derails, she takes on a field job in Rome that involves taking tourists site seeing on weekends. Not ideal, but it was something. Until she finds out Mr. Perfect, is on the dig as well. It gets even worse when she and TJ have to take on a special, week-long tour together. Little do they know that they make the perfect tour team. Emilia keeps the tour on schedule, and TJ gets to show off everything he knows much to the entertainment of the tour guests. Thrown together day after day, they soon realize other aspects of themselves that compliment each other. That’s when things get steamier than a Roman summer afternoon! Hop on board this tour bus and ride with Emilia and TJ. Discover all the romance Roma has to offer. I mean, come on. It’s in the name! Five Stars.

I really needed a vacation and found the best escape - without leaving my home - with TOUR WARS by Carla Luna.
When academic rivals Emilia Flores and TJ Mayer find themselves in Italy working together at the archeological site of Pompeii, from the get-go sparks fly off the pages. These two archeology grads will dig their way into your heart!
For extra income, Em and TJ give tours of Pompeii to bus loads of tourists on weekends. As these two rivals banter to entertain their groups, you'll be wholeheartedly hooked by their flirty fun and fantastic knowledge of ancient Italian history.
The introduction of one particularly jaunty tour group makes this romcom even more delightful. Usually working with ancient civilizations, Em and TJ must band together, sharpen their people skills, and face the tourists with a busload of challenges. Friendships form with these charming people and thanks to Em and TJ, their tour is one they'll never forget.
Due to their good humor and deeply felt bonds, Em and TJ will resonant with you long after the last page.
TOUR WARS is so entertaining! I highly recommend it. You'll love going on an Italian excursion full of love and romance without ever leaving your living room!

I have adored this whole series, so when the author mentioned this one was coming out I was so excited! And it definitely did not disappoint at all! It really even tied quite a bit into my own tour bus experience last summer in some ways, making me wish I could afford to do one just like they did in this story!

Both of our main characters were in the past books in the series, as well as the author brought those couples back into the story since they were friends. Just like the other two books this was a quick and easy read. It had funny banter, wonderful side characters, interesting history/science aspects, as well as another good “villain” someone to hate. And what I especially love is how the author makes sure the bad guy gets their deserved karma and we get to see it as part of a story.

While I had a bit of a feeling what might be the catalyst for the big blow up at the end, I like that it wasn’t necessarily an issue between TJ and Emilia, and it did also come about a little differently than I was predicting. I like being surprised! Visiting all the historic places even just in passing as part of the story was a lot of fun too. What was going on with Emilia was unbelievable that it could get to that point, but I also feel like that might be more how it is in other countries, especially even my own family’s ancestral country of Italy.

I also adored this cover as much as the first two, especially with the pink! I’ll have to buy this to add to my shelf when I can!

Fun in Italy
A great read if you would like to “hang out” in Italy for a bit as this is set in Southern Italy; Rome, the Amalfi Coast and the historic ruins of Pompeii.
If you’ve read the other books in this series then you’ll already know TJ and Emilia, and will have experienced their constant sniping at each other, trying to one up the other as they compete for jobs in their chosen field.
In this we see them both working at the ruins in Pompeii for the summer and offered an opportunity to co-guide a 10-day tour of southern Italy.
As readers, we can see the constant bickering really is just foreplay and eventually they both see it as that as well. As their relationship develops, we get a ringside seat to the patriarchal and misogynistic world of archaeology. Whether it’s like this in real life, I cannot say, but an interesting view of how women can be treated is presented in the story. This by no means brings down the lightheartedness of the story in general, it is merely one of the plot points in an otherwise very enjoyable read.
I have really enjoyed the settings in all the Romancing the Ruins books, they have all been set in places I’ve travelled to, and I have immensely enjoyed revisiting these places through Ms. Luna’s eyes and words.

This is the fourth book of Carla’s I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing, having previously read two of the Blackwood Cellar series as well as Troy Story, the second book in this Romancing the Ruins series.

Although a continuation of the previous book, this can easily be read as a stand-alone. Set in and around Pompeii and Southern Italy, it piqued my interest straight away.

The author’s experience as an archaeologist comes through in the pages, from details of the excavations to descriptions of the ruins themselves, lending a real sense of authenticity to the narrative.

The tension between main characters Emilia and TJ and the obvious underlying attraction between them is the main thread of the storyline. The verbal sparring between them is highly entertaining but in this one I also loved the thawing in their animosity towards each other.

There are plenty of other characters who each bring something to the plot, from creepy Luca to the wonderfully nicknamed ‘Golden Girls’.

A thoroughly enjoyable, easy read which I found myself racing through.

With thanks to the author and Rachel at Random Resources for the opportunity to participate in the tour.

I was really looking forward to this book when I found out it would be about TJ and Emilia. And it didn't disappoint! These two had so much built-up tension I just knew they needed some forced proximity to let it out. I honestly think the best way to get a good grasp of their full journey is by reading Troy Story, where they are first put together. You really get a sense of how they grow, especially TJ, because he could be soooo annoying with his bragging. But getting to know TJ and reading his POV had me flipping my annoyance for understanding. I also liked seeing him admit to being too much before. True character growth here... but also for Emilia since she was known for being a bit grumpy and stand-offish.

Overall, I think this was my favorite book of the series. Each book had its charm and sweet moments, but this one had some great rivals tension... it just hit different, and I guess it's what I was in the mood for.

I highly recommend the whole series, but you can read each one as a standalone.

Tour Wars
Romancing the Ruins, Book 3
Carla Luna

Pompeii, another world buried beneath a blanket of ash. Does this sound peaceful? Well, not if you are a young archaeologist on a dig! While the original disaster has cooled down centuries ago, passions are now ablaze. Emilia and her fellow team member TJ involve themselves in a maddeningly sexy game of cat-and-mouse, taking turns at being the cat. Among the ancient ruins are rivalries and smoldering passions.

This is a novel written by a knowledgeable archaeologist who incorporates first-hand experience, making a convincing read. Added to the setting are believable characters with lives and challenges beyond the dig. Emilia must deal with the issue of being “a woman in the field.” She has lost her chance at a professorship that would have given her prestige and stability. Instead, she’s back in the field. She must deal with a trashy influencer who cannot be trusted; with the threat of sabotage while working overtime on weekends as a tour guide among the ruins; with relationships with her superiors that finally erupt like a little Mt. Vesuvius. All the time, her love and passions grow for a relationship with TJ that seems impossible.

This is a novel that kept me turning the pages into the night. As the snow fell outside my bedroom window, I was oblivious of the northern Winter, because for the evening I was right there in the ruins.

3.5 Stars. I love reading about archeologists. Add in a healthy dose of spice - and spite between enemies to lovers Emilia and TJ. Tour Wars is a perfectly paced slow burn romance. The short chapters kept turning the pages for me. I enjoyed the author's writing style very much. The southern Italian backdrop and archeological insights are well-researched. I felt like I was visiting Pompeii and devouring pasta and limoncello alongside the characters.

Some parts toward the end didn't gel for me. TJ claims to be in love with Emilia, even going so far as to say he's "all in" in regard to their relationship. But when their bosses blatantly disrespect her, he doesn't follow his instincts and quit until several weeks later. This felt a bit inconsistent. Also several times the author expounds on pop culture references that are self-explanatory, like Brigerton and Ms. Frizzle.

I'd love to read more from this series, however, and can't wait to see where the next Romancing the Ruins read takes me.

TJ and Emilia’s Story . . .

This story concerns two “rival” archaeologists, Emilia Flores and TJ Mayer, who seem to be polar opposites in their personality traits. TJ is confident, easygoing, and pleasant, setting strictly-by-the-rules Emilia off immediately at the slightest challenge. Emilia, being a strong female in a primarily male-oriented profession, feels she must work harder and do better than anyone else to be recognized. So talented TJ is her natural competition.

While on a dig in Pompeii, they accept extra work conducting tours. Unfortunately, Luca, a relative of the leader running the dig, goes along on one of them. This was an enjoyable read with one of my favourite subjects and tropes-archeology and enemies to lovers.

I love how we were taken on a journey to the tourist side of Italy, especially Pompeii and the intricacies of what happens on tours.

I love how this highlights the perils and harassment women face at work and the indignation they are made to feel when they stand up for themselves.

The banter and angst between these two was so intense and funny. Their constant bickering was over the top as was their chemistry.

I loved how vivid the author made the scenarios. It almost felt like I was on the bus and in the group with the characters.

I love how unapologetic Em was and how she was able to stand up for herself and trust her instincts.

It could have benefited from a fewer chapters/ word count and still made perfect sense.

If you love the classic enemies to lovers, work place romance then you will love this.

I received an advanced copy and the review is mine and voluntary.

When archaeologist Emilia Flores lands her dream job, working at the ruins of Pompeii, Italy, she's happy! But when she realizes her biggest rival, TJ Mayer, will be working along side her, she can only hope the tension between them doesn't make her loose her temper and her job. When the regular tour guide for the company is injured, both Emilia and TJ are chosen to lead a large group on a 10 day tour across southern Italy. Sparks fly as they make their way along the tour!

I just loved this rival-to-lovers book! The characters are well written, very relatable and grow emotionally realistically. I just loved the snark, sass and sarcasm between Emilia and TJ! The author, Carla Luna has definitely done her research! Her descriptions of the dig sites and all of southern Italy made me feel I was right there with her characters experiencing the tours, the foods and the heat!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Tour Wars combines two of my great loves--Italy and archaeology (secretly wish I was an archaeologist)--and brings a fun, different, and memorable story! Emilia's always had to hustle and scrap for everything in her education and career, and she's so close to getting the academic job she's wanted for so long. Success has always come easily to TJ, and he loves to let everyone know about his accomplishments and more.

These characters have their shells and defenses, but as the book moves forward, we see what's underneath--the hurt, love, past experiences, grief, and passion that drive them and make them who they are. The banter gives some ground to more depth (but doesn't go away), with TJ and Emilia letting each other in and finding they really care about each other.

There's so much humor too--some side characters add laughter to the story, some of them are complete slime, and in a perfect storyline, the fun and awesome ones help get revenge on the slimeballs and tie everything together.

Updated Tour Wars to 5 stars--I keep thinking about it and how much I loved it.

This was a very enjoyable book! I immediately felt like the characters were real people. The banter, the inner monologues, and the character actions were all incredibly believable.

Emilia and TJ are archaeologists and rivals. This is a romance book, so it's no surprise when they finally start to open up to each other and see that they're much more compatible than first let on.

There was a great build of tension with a sleazy attendee to their co led tour, but the resolution was only so so. The initial reveal made me think TJ had ulterior motives for not speaking up, but that wasn't the case. TJ does come in and "save the day" but I'm tired of the man rescuing the heroine.

I wanted more with the ending, which fell a little flat - except for the spice, that was deliciously spicy!.

Thank you so much for the free copy of this book via Booksprout!

Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I expected moments I would want to put the book down, but no such luck, actually I was very lucky to read this in almost a single shot.
I loved the protagonists. They were introduced in other books, but even so, this book reads stand alone without having read the previous books in the series.
As an historian, I expected errors, and more so as a tour passenger. But no. Everything was superb. I loved this book.
The story is about two archeologists competing in academia, that find themselves on the same Italian site (Pompei), and sparks fly. From archeologists, they are promoted to tour guides and have to co-animate a cultural tour.
Throw in good and bad persons, and you have a nice story.
Did I say I loved this book?
