Two weeks before Christmas...Becky never had suspicions about James until now. After serving overseas, Stephen returns home to his wife Myra, who seems different, somehow. As the holiday season approaches, a secret is revealed that changes the lives of two couples, and, afterward, nothing will ever be the same again.
In a press release, Amazon called Martin Crosbie’s debut novel My Temporary Life one of their success stories. His self-publishing journey has been chronicled in Publisher's Weekly, Forbes, and Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper. Martin’s recent release The Dead List (A John Drake Mystery) was awarded a publishing contract by Kindle Press.
He’s also the author of My Name Is Hardly - Book Two of the My Temporary Life Trilogy, Lies I Never Told - A Collection of Short Stories, How I Sold 30,000 eBooks on Amazon's Kindle - An Easy-To-Follow Self-Publishing Guidebook, 2016 Edition, and Believing Again: A Tale Of Two Christmases.
Martin was born in the Highlands of Scotland and currently makes his home just outside Vancouver, on the west coast of Canada.
I really enjoyed these two stories. Mr. Crosbie did an awesome job of bringing in so much heartfelt emotion. He has a rare talent that most writers lack. There is a quality in his work that comes from a deeper place. You can feel the heavy layers stripping little by little. These stories feel so realistic and emotional that as a reader you can’t help but get pulled in. I love when an author has the ability to allow the reader to feel as if they are a part of the story or know the characters personalities inside and out. This is one such author that can do just that and seems to repeat that over and over in his other books. I also really love when stories intersect like these two stories do.
So far I have loved all of Mr. Crosbie’s books. From “My Temporary Life,” “My Name Is Hardly” and the book of short stories, “Lies I Never told.” They are all rich with feeling and are compelling reads.
This one, “Believing Again: A Tale Of Two Christmases” has the same magic with it’s touching moments that all felt reality based even if they are not. This is an emotional and yet heartwarming story.
It took me a bit to get into this book because it was written in a style I'm not that used to. There's a lot of narration going on, but I think it really worked well in this book because it moved the story along at a nice pace. The events in this book take place over several years so I was thankful the author didn't bog things down with too many details that aren't related to the story. I kept thinking as I was reading that the story reminded me of another writer and then it came to me - Nicholas Sparks. Believing Again tells the story of Stephen and Becky. Each of them marry and fall in love, certain they've found their HEA. Neither character knows the other until an unexpected tragedy leads them to cross paths. This book takes the reader from the high of a first love, to the depths of despair from having your heart broken and then back again as each character heals. It's a beautiful heartwarming story.
Two weeks before Christmas, Becky gets what she always wanted. James proposes to her and promises that they’ll have lots of Christmases together. When Stephen returns home after serving overseas all he wants is to spend Christmas with his new wife, Myra. All he can think about is her touch, her warmth. A compelling story of two couples, traveling their separate paths, building their lives together, until one day a secret is revealed that changes all of their lives. And, afterward, nothing will ever be the same again. Believing Again: A Tale of two Christmases is a heart-warming tale of love, commitment, family, and, of course, Christmas. This book is a horse of a different color. Totally different than anything i've read. Quite unique. 4 STARS.
This is a beautiful story of two couples, their love, heartaches, trials and tribulations. Reading this lovely tale reminded me of the stories by Nicholas Sparks. Once I began the book I couldn’t stop reading and didn’t want to put it down.
This author is a talented writer who knows how to reach his readers and grip their hearts with his words. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to more entertaining stories by this creative author. No wonder his books are best sellers!
This story of betrayal and loss takes a turn that is unimaginable. Two people living in darkness find the light. I hope this story will give the broken hearted hope for the future.
A quiet read, not splashy but satisfying. The emotional track of the story sort of reminds me of seasons. The heady courtship like spring and summer. The settling in like autumn. The sorrow, followed by new joy and awakening.
This was a different type of read. I found it to be light reading that was interesting enough to keep my interest and one that you can help but really like the likable people in the story. And at the same time easy to dislike the dislikable!
Two couples lives intersect after marriages go awry. Told first by the husband of one couple, and then secondly by the wife of the other. This is a very quick, short read. It was ok. Not my favorite of Mr. Crosbie's books.
I absolutely loved this book. I felt so many emotions and even shed a few tears. This is the first book I've read by this author, but definitely not the last.
First let me admit that I am not normally a fan of romance novels. I HAVE read some good ones. That being said, this book is absolutely dumber than the worst Hallmark movie story you’ve ever seen. UGH!
This book is two tales intertwined. It starts just before Christmas. There's Becky and James; Stephen and Myra.
Becky and James are college sweethearts who have a romantic courtship and eventually marry.
Stephen is in the Army. Myra is his Sisters Friend and work colleague. Their's is more of a whirlwind romance, and although they hardly knew each other, they married before he headed off to Afghanistan.
The two couples do not know each other, however their worlds collide when tragedy strikes. Then the lies and deceipt appear and their lives change forever.
This wasn't a very long book, in fact it was only about 180 pages log, however the author packed a lot of story lines into this book, and it made for a great read. It was well structured and the author managed to build up the characters with ease in just a few pages.
It only dropped a star rating for me, as towards the final pages, I felt it jumped quite a bit and I would have liked a little more dialogue between the characters which could have been achieved by adding just a few extra pages to the book.
I actually loved this story, and I'm not much for romance stories in general. It was heartbreaking and lovely. It was easy to read and even for a short book, the characters were written so that you got to know them and love them. Highly recommended even to those who don't normally go for the love stories.
This read more like a short story, but a thoroughly enjoyable one. It tracks the story of two couples, mostly by events in their lives at Christmas. Really a welcome change from mysteries and thrillers, Believing Again is a relaxing read that will hold your interest to the end. I liked the author's writing style and will look for more of his work.
"Believing Again" is now the third book of author Martin Crosbie I've read. My expectations were high and just as I expected, book three was just as good as the other ones. It says a lot about a book when you don't want to put it down until finished.
