Larry Hama is an American writer, artist, actor and musician who has worked in the fields of entertainment and publishing since the 1960s.
During the 1970s, he was seen in minor roles on the TV shows M*A*S*H and Saturday Night Live, and appeared on Broadway in two roles in the original 1976 production of Stephen Sondheim's Pacific Overtures.
He is best known to American comic book readers as a writer and editor for Marvel Comics, where he wrote the licensed comic book series G.I. Joe, A Real American Hero, based on the Hasbro action figures. He has also written for the series Wolverine, Nth Man: the Ultimate Ninja, and Elektra. He created the character Bucky O'Hare, which was developed into a comic book, a toy line and television cartoon.
This classic run of G.I. Joe comic books is one of my favorite stories of all time. I have been reading and rereading these tales since I was 9 years old. I've no doubt that some level of nostalgia is involved in my fascination but I also believe that these are great stories by any standard. This hardbound collection is a great way to experience the G.I. Joe saga. The fact that the publisher doesn't seem to be able to complete it is a bit frustrating but that takes nothing away from the stories themselves.
The Snake Eyes \ Storm Shadow saga had been the highlight of this series, but now the over-arching G.I. Joe \ Cobra conflict gets more interesting. Seems to be much more focus on the story rather than selling toys.
My favorite run starts to come to a close. It's probably my favorite because this era was the height of my Joe fandom as a kid (1986). Tune in to see Snake-Eyes stab a shark.
This is GI Joe in its prime. We meet Dr. Mindbender and his creation, Serpentor. The story lines revolve around Cobra Island, the Joe's invasion of Springfield and Cobra's assault on The Pit. Zartan introduces his siblings, Zandar and Zarana. We also meet lots of new Joes. Meanwhile Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow team up to take care of business. This volume also includes a few issues of Special Missions. I enjoyed reading them, but they distracted from the Real American Hero plotline.
