Merry in Moose Falls is a stand alone, MM, holiday novella by Emily Silver. This is a cute, small town romance between best friends, one straight, one not.

Charlie Palmer and Brooks Walker have been best friends since the third grade when Brooks first moved to Moose Falls, Maine. And since middle school, when Charlie started figuring out some things about himself, he’s been in love with Brooks who is straight. Not wanting to risk their friendship, Charlie has always remained silent, being the best friend he can be. That included being the best man at Brooks wedding and now watching his friend suffer a broken heart when they divorced five years later. Charlie owns the tavern in town, The Tinsel Tavern and loves his life. Except for the fact that he is alone. Now he has offered Brooks a place to stay until he can get things together and figure out his life.

Brooks can now see where his marriage went wrong but it doesn’t help the fact that he has no home and no job. Charlie is determined to make Christmas wonderful for him and he can feel himself starting to smile more with Charlie. He’s also a little confused with some feelings he’s been having lately, noticing things about his best friend he never noticed before.

A night of a few too many drinks with their friends leads to some truths that shock everyone, especially Charlie. Does he even dare to hope that his wildest dreams might come true? That there could ever be a chance for he and Brooks to be more than just friends? Or, is their lifelong friendship too much to risk?

“Even if you’re going through a hard time, things can still be magical. If you only open your eyes and look for it.”

First, I loved this little town. It’s adorable. I did feel so bad for Charlie and his unrequited love. Brooks was a bit of a mess. He definitely wasn’t very aware of what other people were feeling around him. Together, they were really cute and I loved the holiday experience Charlie was trying to give Brooks. This was a cute, fun, steamy little romance.

OMG y'all, if you are looking for a short, sweet, and spicy holiday read, Merry in Moose Falls IS IT. Emily Silver's festive novella has all the Hallmark movie moments you could want (Christmas tree hunting, ice skating, decorating Christmas sweaters, etc.) PLUS all the best tropes (friends to lovers, tons of pining). And it's got some surprisingly spicy scenes that had me doing a double take. If it wasn't already on your holiday TBR, add it IMMEDIATELY.

I was HURTING for poor sweet Charlie, who's been in love with his best friend Brooks since childhood. The guy is SUCH a good friend, acting as Brooks' best man at his wedding and then picking up the pieces for him after his divorce. It was actually kind of satisfying when Brooks FINALLY realizes that Charlie is into him and he's missed it for YEARS. What's great is that they then immediately jump into a relationship (despite their intention to take things slow) because why wouldn't they? They are clearly perfect for each other.

I was so in love with all of the holiday elements y'all, SUCH a great holiday read. Though I've been reading some wintery books, I think this is my first Christmas book, and it definitely got me in the Christmas spirit. Seriously, if you need something to brighten your mood quickly (it's relatively short), give Merry in Moose Falls a shot. Thank you to Emily for the ARC, her books always make me smile!

the relationship didn’t feel believable at all. brooks just got divorced, lost his job, and his house. to me, it felt like he was just clinging on to a sense of familiarity and the first person who made him feel good/taken care of after hitting such a low point in his life. he has never had romantic feelings for his best friend (of like almost 20 years) ever before this point and now all of the sudden he’s in love with him? yeah sure…

also, he has already lost so much, he didn’t really want to lose his best friend as well after finding out about his feelings so again, it just felt like it came out of nowhere. at one point he says “even the thought of losing him is now too much to bear. it’s charlie. the one person in my life i can always count on. who’s always been there for me.” which isn’t necessarily romantic imo (you can also feel this way about a best friend) and yet this was the revelation that made brooks realize he was in love. again, it just felt like he was clinging to that feeling after losing the person he thought was the love of his life and would always be there.

the writing, especially the dialogue, felt really stilted and weird. there’s some drama (i use this term loosely, there’s just an uncomfortable conversation where the mcs realize they want different things) at the family christmas dinner and instead of just changing the topic, the parents decide to just get up and leave. even though they were in the middle of eating dessert. it was so sudden and awkward and also not how real people would’ve handled that situation.

finally, the third act conflict is so stupid. brooks literally starts the book off by saying that he never wants to get married again so then why did charlie suddenly have an issue with that later on? like he’s known that the whole time. he chose to start dating his best friend knowing they wanted different things so when it suddenly becomes an issue when their families bring it up is strange. and even then, it doesn’t even fucking matter in the end because they get engaged in the epilogue. the very next chapter makes the whole third act conflict pointless. (this is just a personal complaint but brooks proposes at their friends wedding which is just super fucking tacky)

Once again, Emily Silver wrote a story that I devoured in one sitting and loved so much. “Merry in Moose Falls” is a romantic, swoony and steamy MM friends to lovers holiday romance that has me wanting more from the Moose Falls world.

Charlie has been in love with his straight best friend since he was a kid and when Brooks has no idea. And when Brooks' marriage ends in divorce, he moves in with Charlie to get back on his feet and nurse his broken heart. On a night out with too many drinks, truths slip out and this leaves Brooks and Charlie questioning things. After all these years with feelings, is there a chance they could be more than friends…

Brooks and Charlie were so adorable and I loved them so much. Charlie is kind, caring and is there for Brooks and his friends in Moose Falls. He never pressured Brooks and was always the best support system for him. Brooks came to Moose Falls to mend his heart and being there with his best friend is exactly what he needed. They had the best friendship and I loved how it progressed, it felt so natural once feelings were revealed. Both took their time exploring the feelings they had and once they were ready for the next step, the chemistry between them got even hotter. Brooks and Charlie navigated the new part of their relationship perfectly and I loved the ending so much. I can’t wait to read more from the guys in Moose Falls.

This was one of my favorite holiday novellas that I have read, and I have read a lot! I loved this story even more after hearing about the inspiration behind it. Charlie has always been in love with his best friend Brooks. He kept his feelings to himself and stood by as Brooks got married. Fast forward and now Brooks is getting divorced. With no place to stay, he moves in with Charlie.

Things heat up quickly between Brooks and Charlie. It must be all the magic at Christmas time! I loved seeing these two come together. Brooks had no problem accepting his new attraction to his best friend. It made their relationship that much more perfect.

Give me all those holiday feels! Merry in Moose Falls by Emily Silver was a sweet and swoony MM novella that left the biggest smile on my face. Charlie and Brooks are childhood best friends who eventually become lovers after so much heartache, pining, and longing. I adored their love story from start to finish. Then add in the snow, small town, Christmas vibes, and this book checked all my favorite holiday feel-good boxes. I loved Charlie’s awkward-shy turned-confident demeanor when his true feelings were revealed to Brooks. Plus, Brooks’ past heartache and newfound love with Charlie were endearing and so dreamy that these two absolutely stole my heart. I loved that they had this underlying affection and attraction that was just waiting to be discovered and explored.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. If you are a fan of an MM holiday novella with a hot charismatic bar owner, a timid best friend looking for a fresh start, Christmas tree shopping, close proximity, small-town, revealing truth or dare, street kisses, ice skating, holiday movies, spice, and a HEA that will make merry in your heart, then you will love Charlie and Brooks story. I always look forward to more from Emily Silver.

This book was like: nothing, nothing, nothing - BAM.

Completely interchangeable MCs.

Asshole friend for asking that truth question, I strongly dislike the "friend meddling for your best interest" trope.

Charlie blatantly ignoring his friend when he comes to talk things out, but managing to find time to dance and flirt with someone else, and then getting annoyed with Brooks for being upset by this. Infuriating.

And now they kiss again in the morning and go sledding. Where's the actual conversation?

Maybe it's coming but I simply do not care.

I received this book as an eARC in exchange for a honest review.

I’ve been in love with my best friend since he moved to town in third grade. My very straight best friend.
He doesn’t know. What’s the point? It’ll only hurt me. So I do the only thing I can do and be the best friend I can be.
When his marriage comes crashing down around him, he stays with me while nursing a broken heart. With the holidays upon us, I do everything I can to cheer him up.

I did feel so bad for Charlie when he had to watch his best friend Brooks getting maried, because he has been in love with his best friend Brooks since childhood.
After the divorce Brooks moves in with Charlie, even though Hunter thinks that it would be a bad idee. The holidays are coming and it is Charlie's favorite time of the year, Brooks is still sad after the divorce but goes along with Charlie. They grew close again and after some drinks Brooks found out that Charlie is in love with him. Brooks notices that he also looks at Charlie in a different way than before and wants to find out what this means.

Brooks and Charlie are so cute together. Charlie is such a sweetheart, he gives Brooks the time he needs, even though it is also hard for him. I love how Brooks gives in to his feelings for Charlie.
The holidays, christmas tree shopping, ice skating, making christmas sweaters and ornaments, this book is such a great holiday book (a hallmark movie on paper).
I also liked the side character Hunter, he had his doubts but he supported Charlie and even gives Brooks a job. I do hope there will be a story about Hunter, I feel there is much more to him.

This is my second MM romance book and I've read it because it is Emily Silver, I love her writing. It is subtle and the spice is also exactly right.
I never realy like books about the holidays (I enjoy Halloween more than Christmas), but this book makes me looking forward to the holidays.

If you’re looking for a short, cute, low angst holiday novella then here it is. Charlie has been in love with his best friend Brooks forever. Too bad Brooks is married.. to a woman. That is until he’s divorced and staying with Charlie.

As they are in a smaller space together (Charlie’s house) the more they see another side to each other. Charlie is so sweet, caring and will do anything for the people he loves. Brooks has been oblivious but is seeing Charlie for the man he is beyond his best friend. But when he does, he finally gets to be his true happy self.

Jump into this novella for a good time Christmas party.

Who knew all it would take was opening my eyes to see what was right in front of me?
My Charlie.

Charlie and Brooks have been best friends since the 3rd grade and Charlie has been in love with Brooks for nearly as long. Charlie knows nothing could ever happen between them, especially when Brooks gets married to his college girlfriend. Five years later Brooks is divorced and staying with Charlie until he’s back on his feet. Charlie is determined to give Brooks the perfect holiday, even if it breaks his heart to not be able to have Brooks the way he wants. But when a few cocktails lead to some truths being spilled, Charlie discovers that there’s a real chance that he could finally have everything he ever wanted with Brooks.

I don’t know about you, but I am so ready to just lose myself in holiday romances for the foreseeable future and this was the perfect novella to kick things off! Chock full of all the warm cozy vibes that come with the season - Christmas tree farms, hot cocoa, sledding, ice skating, the town of Moose Falls has it all. Combine that with heaps of pining and the teensiest bit of angst and you’ve got a delightful holiday romance.

I loved Charlie and Brooks’ friendship and their transition to more was seamless. They dive right in when they finally get on the same page but given their extensive history, it didn’t feel rushed to me. This may not have been a very long book but it was plenty spicy when they do get together! As I mentioned, there’s the teensiest bit of angst but even that felt believable and the way everything wrapped up was super sweet. This book was the exact vibe I need right now and I hope to get to return to Moose Falls in the future!

Santa isn’t the only one coming to town in Moose Falls! 🤭 (Sorry, I had to!)

This novella had everything I needed! Christmas / Hallmark - esque vibes, Christmas tree farms, holiday cocktails, ugly Christmas sweaters, spice and so much tension.

Charlie has always had a thing for his lifelong friend, Brooks. Has he declared his feelings for him, no. So we witness Charlie pining for Brooks. When Brooks’ marriage falls apart, and despite many warnings, Charlie is there to offer Brooks a safe place to land. A night of drinks and Truth or Dare leaves both Brooks and Charlie questioning things. The progression of things came naturally and fast. The exploration phase was HOT! The story was so cozy and endearing.

Written in first person from an alternating dual POV, this is a standalone that ends with a HEA.
Charlie has been in love with his best friend for many years. He has pined and wished from afar that his straight friend was the man for him. When Brooks goes through a messy divorce and ends up staying with Charlie, he begins to see Charlie in a way he hadn’t before. I loved how open Brooks was to exploring his new feelings with Charlie.
This was a steamy sweet holiday novella. I could see this being a book to reread each year. It has all the Hallmark Christmas vibes, so much pining, and plenty of heat. Charlie and Brooks were delightful together both as friends and as lovers. I loved how affectionate they are with each other. Truly, one of the best holiday romance reads of the year.
I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.

First, let me say, the chapter titles are super funny. And this cover art? It's perfection & means even more once you've read the story.😍 Speaking of the story, this one is a perfect blend of cozy, small town, Christmas & romance. But when the spice hits...🫠 whew...😮‍💨 dayum! Plus, Emily describes a drink, the Naughty But Nice cocktail, blending whiskey with orange & cranberry juice & ginger that sounds amazing! I think I'm gonna give it a try this season. I'm not normally a whiskey girlie, but I've officially been influenced.🥃
“If you interrupt me while I’m listening to my trees, I’m sending you home.”
Brooks laughs. “Okay. No talking while you’re listening to the trees.”
“And no rolling your eyes at me if it’s taking too long or asking when we’re leaving.”
“Check and check.” Brooks makes two check marks in the air. “I’ll follow you around like a little puppy and tell Hunter when we’re ready.”
Something I always do when reading a book is to read the entire acknowledgments & thank yous from the author. In this book, Emily gives us a peek behind the curtain with this book's inspiration. Honestly, I kinda want to spend a day with Emily & her friend because they sound like fun, haha. When you read this book, take a look at the story behind this story... it's great.
“What meaning does a half-naked mermaid have?” Brooks laughs.
“Merman,” I correct, poking him in the muscular abs. “You just wish your abs were as good-looking as this.”
Brooks pulls his hoodie up, flashing me his stomach.
Fuck. Me. I should not have started this. How does Brooks not know the way he has me drooling over him?
“I think they are.”
This is peak Emily Silver right here: a cozy & cute story, with characters that make you swoon, a fur baby to steal the show & a romance guaranteed to warm your heart. It’s basically everything you want & need in a holiday romance! Plus, Emily has given us a world that’s open & accepting of queer men, which is refreshing & feels like a warm hug. This book is filled with nothing but love, understanding, compassion, spicy spice, laugh-out-loud comedy & TONS of holiday vibes guaranteed to leave you clutching your heart, kicking your feet & maybe even decorating your own rainbow merman ornament while wearing a homemade “ugly” sweater. So, can we all live in Moose Falls now, please? Because I am totally ready to find a tree that speaks to me from the Naughty Pine Tree Farm & get my holiday season started in proper style!
"... I love you, Charlie. More than I ever thought possible. I never knew this was a kind of love that I could have. It shocks me every day that you chose me. That you love me and that I, for some lucky reason, get to love you back.”
“I think I’m the lucky one...”

I love reading MM romances, so this story was the perfect holiday read. Charlie and Brooks had been best friends since they were kids, and Charlie had always kept his feelings for Brooks a secret, especially when he got married to his college girlfriend; Charlie had to suffer in silence and be there for Brooks as his best friend.

Brooks got divorced five years later, and Charlie didn't hesitate to invite him to stay at his house and help him get back on his feet. Brooks was still trying to figure out his future, and I loved how Charlie always tried to make him happy and put a smile on Brooks' face. Charlie had to hide his feelings for Brooks, but after a night out with their friends, some truths came to the surface, and Brooks and Charlie were forced to talk about what it meant for their friendship.

Charlie didn't know how to act with Brooks after their truths came out, but Brooks couldn't deny how his feelings for Charlie were changing, especially after seeing him flirt with another guy. They talked about everything, and after opening up, they finally acted on all the tension and feelings they had been hiding all along.

The story was short, but still, their steamy scenes were really hot, and I loved how well Charlie and Brooks complemented each other. I loved reading about their interactions and how effortless it was for them to become more than just friends. It was nice to read how their families supported their relationship and how being together was what they needed all along.

Brooks and Charlie were perfect together, and I loved the things they did for each other and how Brooks ended up giving Charlie everything he had been looking for since they met.

Their friends were captivating, and it was nice to read their scenes. I hope the next book will be about Hunter and his friend Oliver so we can read about their friendship and see more of their friends.

Charlie has been in love with his straight best friend Brooks since third grade. Brooks got married and Charlie was right by his side as his best man so he had no choice but to push his feelings for him aside. After Brooks marriage ended, he came to live with Charlie to mend his broken heart. Little did Brooks know, the forced proximity and hidden truths would make him feel things for Charlie.

This novella had me FERAL. Like stupidly feral. I’M ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED WITH IT. It’s the perfect blend of cozy Christmas/Hallmark vibes, friendship, tension and spice. Charlie and Brooks are EVERYTHING. I loved getting to see them fall for each other and explore their relationship as more than friends. The love and care that they have for each other really warmed my heart. Charlie going out of his way and doing everything he could to lift Brooks spirits after his divorce had me swooning. They are both so perfectly perfect for each other and I could not get enough. The tension at the bar and the docking scene? It was delicious. Emily really did the damn thing with that🥵 I will recommend this novella every chance I get. I absolutely adored it.

Did I mention how feral I was for this?
I would say that everyone needs to add this to their TBR.. but honestly, just pick it up and read it NOW. I need more people swooning for these babies with me🫠

Merry in Moose Falls is Christmas novella that is full of small town charm, a great group of friends, Christmas activities, and of course a friends to lovers steamy MM romance.

The book begins with Brooks’s marriage ending in divorce and him moving in with his best friend Charlie (who has been in love with him for a very long time) while he gets back on his feet. Charlie promises to help Brooks celebrate Christmas to help get him out of his funk and one night the truth of Charlie’s feelings and Brooks’s past come out and now they are both questioning everything, especially if they could be more than friends?

Emily Silver MM books 🤝 Me

I adored every minute of this book! Charlie and Brooks were completely loveable characters and I’m a huge sucker for a MM friends to lovers and this was such a well down version of that trope. And the touches of Christmas were absolutely perfect for my first read of the Holiday season. It definitely gave off some quaint Hallmark-esque vibes and if you are looking for a cute, short, holiday read I highly highly recommend!

ARC Review-Releases 11/21

Brooks and Charlie have been best friends since their childhood. Charlie has been in love with Brooks for years but never acted on it. But now Brooks’ divorce is finalized and he is staying with Charlie through the holidays. With a few too many drinks secrets are revealed that could open the door for Charlie.

It’s hallmark and sweet. You know exactly what you’re going to get because it’s a holiday novella. But then Emily goes and flips the script and gives us a docking scene. And. I. Loved.

It’s a holiday novella so yes it’s insta-love or at least very little tension (which let’s be honest, that’s what we want for the holidays anyway). Since Brooks and Charlie have been best friends for so long, they don’t need to spend much of the dedicated story establishing their connection, it's already there. With so many stories coming out lately with bi-awakening, I also really like how Emily wrote this one that the awakening moment happened and both accepted and moved on.

It is the perfect festive treat & an amazing way to begin a series I am now 𝐝𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 to get my hands on.

Brooks and Charlie take us on their journey in Mᴇʀʀʏ ɪɴ Mᴏᴏsᴇ Fᴀʟʟs by Emily Silver, book one in the Moose Falls series.

A magical holiday read about two best friends finally finding their way to each other at the most magical time of the year.

Brooks and Charlie have been best friends since third grade and Chalie has been in love with Brooks for almost the same amount of time. When Brooks’ marriage ends, he moves in with Charlie and starts seeing him in a different light.

Brooks and Charlie are best friends and coming together only strengthens their bonds. Charlie is my favourite because of his undying love for Christmas. I love the little found family they have and I am hoping for some more books from the Moose Falls gang.

Get ready for…

This was my first time reading this author and I absolutely enjoyed the town of Moose Falls and its characters. This was a low angst holiday romance featuring childhood best friends to lovers and was a quick read.

Charlie and Brooks have been childhood best friends forever being there for every significant moment. There are very few secrets between these two except one very significant one, that Charlie has been in love with Brooks for quite some time. He’s been there through Brooks marriage and career falling through and is there to help him get back onto his feet. Some truths are revealed that leads to some discoveries for Brooks and these two navigate the new dynamic between each other.

It was a sweet story and I always enjoy a best friends romance and bonus points for a holiday read. I love the little teaser in the epilogue and can’t wait for the next trip to Moose Falls! I read a complimentary copy and this is my honest and fair review.

𝑴𝒚 𝒃𝒍𝒖𝒓𝒃:
Charlie has always loved his best friend Brooks but it's a one-way love. Brooks gets married, they remain friends. But after Brook's divorce, he moves in with Charlie and the holiday spirit gets the best of them...

𝑴𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔:
THE CUTEST. Charlie really is the cutest. I wanted to hug him, tell him that everything would be okay.

This is a novella so things go fast and Brooks' mind is quickly made up but I already had it in mind and was ready for a fluffy holiday short story and Emily's books always put me in a good mood!

This one has everything you want in a spicy Holiday romance with all the Christmas activities you could imagine and great smut. Also, *that* scene in the bar 👀 I combusted.

This is the perfect Christmas novella for those of you who are looking for a sweet, best-friends to lovers, MM romance that will have you feeling all warm inside.
Ms. Silver delivers a story of two best friends, Charlie and Brook, who have grown up together but Charlie is in love with Brook and he has no idea. Brook is not gay and Charlie lives with the fact Brook will never see him as a person he could love. When Brook is forced to move back home because his marriage fell apart he moves in with Charlie. When there is an interesting turn of events, we see true feelings come to the surface and things heat up.
I love the way that Charlie was putting himself through hell having Brook around. He knew that having him living in his house would be torture but he loved him and wanted to be there as his best friend. This is a feel-good book that will put a smile on your face.
