It's Saint Patrick's Day weekend in chilly upstate New York, and Samantha Davies, children's picture book author and sometime sleuth, is excited to attend the annual outdoors games put on by the local Wings Falls fire company. It will be a weekend filled with fun activities such as a skillet toss, four-wheeler race, and the ever-popular decorated wooden outhouse race across the ice. Sam is looking forward to dancing the night away with her beau, police detective Hank Johnson at the Firefighter's Ball. Sam's rug hooking group, the Loopy Ladies is sponsoring one of the outhouses and their senior member, Gladys O'Malley, will have the honor of riding on the "throne" to the finish line.
Only not all goes as planned when the neighboring fire company's chief is found in Gladys' place—frozen solid and dead as a doornail! To make matters worse, both Gladys' and Sam's fingerprints are all over the evidence at the murder scene, taking them from attendees to suspects. Now it's up to Sam to clear their names and get to the truth. The only problem is the victim had disagreements with almost everyone in town, from the Wings Falls fire chief to a sexy blonde named Sunny Foxx—with two xx's—and a slew of other suspects. Can Sam find the killer before the Luck of the Irish runs out for her? Or will she become chilled to the bone when the killer catches up to her...
"A doggone entertaining mystery filled with small town scandals! Funny and entertaining!" ~ Fresh Fiction
Another fun adventure for Sam and her friends. Eccentric small town characters galore in this cozy mystery. A truly perplexing who-dunnit. Cute dogs, adorable couples, and the crazy town gossips you'd expect. This will keep you turning pages as you try to decipher which character hated the deceased enough to kill him. I am enjoying this series and look forward to reading more.
Another great Samantha Davies book! Small town, murder, detective boyfriend, good friends and family. And I love how the relationship between Sam and Hank is developing. And of course there’s Porkchop! A Dachshund hero!
Chilled to the Dog Bone is the fifth book in the Samantha Davies Mystery series by S.A. Kazlo and boy is this series a HOOT !!!
Samantha and her lovable dog, Porkchop, are just trying to enjoy life. Sam just published her first book, a children's book about Porkchop, titled Porkshop the Wonder Dog, and they are going to be doing their first appearance promoting the book at the local library. Sam is also enjoying her relationship with Police Detective Hank Johnson as well as her time hanging out with her cousin, Candie, and their friends in the Loopy Ladies rug hooking group.
Unfortunately another murder is going to take time for her to try to solve when the outhouse races at the local Firemen's Convention are postponed when a neighboring fire department's chief is found dead in the Loopy Ladies outhouse .... and Sam and her neighbor (also Hank's aunt) Gladys are on the suspect list !!! And when Hank is taken off the case, Sam knows it's just a matter of time before her childhood enemy Joe "Sandy" Peters will try to put the cuffs on her whether she is innocent or guilty.
Sam and Candie begin their investigation even though they have been warned off by Hank. They know that they have to do whatever they can to prove that Sam and Gladys are innocent, however, this will not be an easy case to solved as the suspect list is longer than they imagined. It seems like nobody liked Ivan Kline and the more they dig, the deeper they get ....
Readers cannot help but fall in love with this series !! There is so much to love, even the murders are interesting !! You will love Wings Falls, the businesses, the people, and the relationships and friendships. There are plenty of times that I have read a book and wanted to jump into the story and live in the town and the Samantha Davies Mystery series is one on the top of that list !! I know you will love it as much as I did. The only sad part is when you close the book when you get to the end .... but hopefully a new one will be coming out soon and we will be happy again !!!
All the outhouses are decorated for St. Patrick’s Day but the fun quickly turns to murder. Sam’s fingerprints are all over the crime scene. Can she uncover the real murderer before her luck runs out? Chilled to the Dog Bone is a delightful cozy mystery full of Irish charm, suspects galore, and a murder to solve. The best part about this cozy is Sam and her dog, Porkchop. They’re both great detectives and add humor to this cozy mystery.
Let’s start with the characters. Sam is an amateur detective. She’s very good at gathering clues to solve the mystery. She’s also got a great personality. It works well to have her as the main character. I connected with her right away.
The rest of the characters consist of local townsfolk, the victim, and of course the murderer. Each character is portrayed in a realistic manner with a bit of intrigue added.
Porkchop is Sam’s adorable dog. This little pooch stole the show. Quite the nose for investigating.
The narration is detailed with humorous dialogue, action scenes, and a quaint small town as the setting. There’s a St. Patrick’s Day vibe layered throughout the mystery. You’ll be dancing with a four-leaf clover in your hair by the time you’re finished reading.
I love cozy mysteries and S.A. Kazlo writes with an expert pen. This is the first book I’ve read in this series but I’m only getting started. A brilliant cozy from start to finish.
I enjoyed this book, even if it did take me a while to finish. No fault of the book, just life got in the way and it took me a while to get into it. I think it was because we were introduced to too many characters all at once and as this was my first time reading a book from this series I had a hard time keeping everybody straight. I did eventually catch up and was chuckling along at the antics of the quirky characters. The festival was amusing and living in England I never knew most of the events where a thing. The characters are likeable and there was lots of fun with the loveable animals. The mystery was unusual and had a number of suspects to keep you guessing who was responsible, so I think I will be joining them again soon. The local fire department is holding its yearly saint Patrick's day out doors games event and the Loopy Ladies are hoping to win the wooden outhouse race, with there highly decorated outhouse and royal member Gladys behind the reins. However on the day of the event they arrive to inspect there offering, only to find a dead man frozen to there throne. The dead man wasn't well liked but as Sam is involved the chief is ready to arrest her, especially with her finger prints everywhere. With her boyfriend taken off the case due to his personal connection, Sam has no choice but investigate it herself. Can she find the person with the biggest motive to kill the annoying man?
When the author announced on Facebook that this book was on special, I immediately downloaded it, drawn in by the cozy murder mystery with an emphasis on the protagonist's dog. This is the fifth book in Kazlo's Samantha Davies Mysteries series. As an independently published author, Kazlo could benefit from professional editing to address the grammar mistakes, repetitions, and minor plot/character development issues that gave me pause while reading, but overall this was a very cute cozy murder mystery starring middle-aged, animal-loving Sam and her cousin, Candie, in small town Wings Falls. This was a quick, easy read full of punny names for her book titles and fictional town's businesses and organizations (I am a huge fan of puns!), and I'm definitely interested in reading more by this author.
Samantha Davies and her fellow Loopy Ladies, a rug hooking group, are excited for the annual outdoor games where they have an entry in the outhouse on skis race. But this year, the festivities take an unexpected turn when someone is found dead inside the outhouse.
Sam is determined to stay out of the latest murder investigation, but a little bump in the road of romance with Detective Hank Johnson helps to change her mind. Now the more Sam gets involved the more secrets and suspects are exposed.
This fifth book in the Samantah Davies Mysteries series is an entertaining read blending humor, intrigue, and a dash of romance.
A cozy mystery set in Wings Falls, a town in upstate NY with oozing local charm and engaging characters, the fifth book in the Samantha Davies series does not disappoint. No spoilers here, but the plot comes to a slow boil that bubbles over with a hot twist at the end. I recommend this book for lovers of murder mysteries that involve an amateur sleuth who always winds up in the middle of the crime and her hunky detective boyfriend. Sprinkle in small-town traditions, gossip, and quirky characters with their pets, and Chilled to the Dog Bone becomes a sweet page-turner.
I received a copy from the publisher. I'm in love with this series. Samantha, her dog Porkchop and all the Loopy Ladies are great characters. I wish we had a rug hook group here. Such fun. The ladies are entered into a contest that races decorated outhouses across the ice. Just one little problem... there's the dead body of one of the town's least liked public servants in theirs. Now Samantha, her hunky detective beau Hank and the ladies need to figure out what's going on. This series just keeps getting better.
Samantha has just published her first book, based on her dog, Porkchop. Sam, her boyfriend Hank and cousin Candie are looking forward to the Firemen’s Convention and outdoor games. Hank’s elderly aunt Gladys has pushed herself into a place of honor in the Outhouse Race. Unfortunately, when their outhouse is revealed, instead of Gladys they find the dead body of another department’s chief! Sam and Gladys are now both suspects. Sam plans to find the real killer, with help from her friends and the “Loopy Ladies”, her town’s rug hooking group. I love the unique characters in this series!
Another beauty by S.A. Kazlo! Chilled to the Dog Bone is the 5th in the series, and I hope there are more coming. Tons of fun with everything one would want in a cozy mystery; Keen minded amateur sleuths who are easily relateable, just enough clues to let the reader problem solve to a point that they feel like they're in the story, and of course everybody's friend, Porkchop. This summer, before heading to the beach, the lake, or your favorite easy chair, pick up a copy of; Chilled to the Dogbone, a cozy mystery of genuine joy.
First book by this author. A all around great read. Loveable characters. The Loopy Ladies ( they knit) enter an Outhouse Contest. The outhouse is taken to where the race will be held the next day. So we have an Outhouse race, A flirty lady Sunny, A Man everyone Guess with Ivan, A fireman Hank and his girlfriend Sam her cousin Candie who has a fireman boyfriend Mark, a cop Joe Peters, aunts, friends , ex boyfriend and last but not least A MURDER VICTIM but who had motive to kill ?
Cute cozy mystery series about the goings on in a small town near Lake George, NY. Late winter festival events are marred by the discovery of the body of a man basically the entirety of two small towns despised. The Main character, Sam, a budding author, is there with her group of women friends who discover the body and suspicion points to her and one of her elderly friends. A lot of twists and turns but a good read. Note to author, S.A. Kazlo, the NY Jets do not play in mid-March. Still love the series and the characters, particularly the 4-legged ones
The fifth mystery by S.A. Kazlo you can’t put down till the end, all while enjoying your escape to Wings Falls, its zany characters, and the intrigue of another murder discovered in this small town. Best of all, Candie’s rhinestones twinkle and Sam’s detective brain continues to analyze the clues as you follow them along with her. Porkchop’s antics steal the show, so you can relax as the story unwinds with Chilled to the Dog Bone.
I love these stories, and this one is no different. Porkchop - a lovable dachshund- makes a return appearance as do the Loopy Ladies. Sam and her rug-looping friends decorate a homemade outhouse with their rugs for the upcoming races, but when then arrive, rather than the race, they find a dead body in theirs. And the race is on to find out who the perp is before Sam gets accused of murder.
Two cousins, slightly past middle age, have a love of hooking (rugs-get your mind out of the gutter), pets, books, their small town, and of course their hunky partners. If you like dogs and cats and mystery, then you are in for a treat because this terrific series includes unsavory characters, and solving murders. It's fun with a little romance, a lot of pets, and interesting activities.
Chilled to the Dog Bone is an entertaining cozy mystery with a touch of romance. I love Sam, Hank, Porkchop, the Loopy Ladies and this small town. Once again Sam is embroiled in a twisted mystery. The dead fire chief seemingly got along with no one. There are plenty of suspects to keep Sam and the reader guessing. I could not put the book down!
What a fun book! Well, for a murder mystery. The Loopy Ladies are a fun group, complete with their dogs. When a body is found frozen in their entry for the outhouse race, everybody seems like a suspect. Sam doesn't like being a suspect and tries to clear her name and find the murderer. A fun series of Keystone cops ensues. Loved the book!
I absolutely loved this book as well as the rest in the series. The writing is fantastic, the main characters hobby is unique and a beautiful setting. Great characters and an adorable Doxie sidekick make me want more. I love Porkchop!
Another fun addition to the lives of Sam and the Loopy Ladies...our local hookers. A chance to experience an Adirondack Winter Carnival with all of the small town "politics" and jockeying behind the scenes. Great twists and turns. Happy to have Porkchop investigating. Fun read!
A good cozy mystery. It didn't kill off a victim until you were further in the book - lol lol and the list of suspects really was a twist and turn so when we do find out who the killer turned out to be was a big surprise. I do have to laugh on Candice has a carriage for her dogs...cute
Sammie and Candy are nosy cousins in committed relationships. Candy with the mayor and Sammie with a detective. The couples and friends come a Ross a body at a f
