Cinderella by the Sundance phonics readers, shows Cinderella being shouted to by her stepsisters as she helps them dress for an outing. Cinderella wanted to go with her stepsisters on a bus, but she was told, 'No'. Cinderella went back home sad until a magical lady came to help her get all dressed up for the party. She was disguised at the party and therefore was not seen by her stepsisters. After dancing with the prince, she ran out of the party in such a haste that her shoe fell off. The prince found the shoe and went looking for Cinderella, he found her house where her stepsisters lived. They tried on the shoe, but it didn't fit them, so he found Cinderella and made her try on the shoe. The shoe fit Cinderella and the prince married her.

This level 2 reader book narrates the Cinderella story in its simplest form. There were very short and repetitive phrases that would help emerging readers be able to read and understand the story. The pictures are very colorful and bright bringing beauty to the unkindness Cinderella faced. It also put a spin on what Cinderella wore to the party as compared to other books that tell the story. She wore sneakers and rode a bus to the party in this book.

This would be an easy read for students that re learning to read. It would also gain their interest in a story quite familiar to them. They can even name the characters in the story since they are not mentioned by name. It would be a fun make belief activity for many students, especially struggling readers.
