The Addams Family

Rate this book

Nici be- culeţe de Crăciun viu colorate.

This book was pretty funny, I really liked it. I have seen the movie, but I like the old shows better :)

Gothic hilarity and everyday morals and manners twisted up in this nostalgic read.

In varianta scrisa este seaca. Ii lipsesc ingredientele principale: fundalul sonor si culorile morbide. Plus zambetele malefice ale personajelor.

Voi reveni cu detaliile complete #peblog

There's really no reason to read this novelization. It's basically just the screenplay translated into prose, down to the scant visual descriptors that feel like they were copied and pasted from the stage direction. Occasionally you get some insight into the complex psychological processes of the characters with a sentence like, "Fester was worried." But I still had heckuva fun with it. It's cozy, you know? Especially with the included pictures. Not every book needs to be Thomas Wolfe. (Then again, I've never read anything by Thomas Wolfe.)

I don't have a great memory for the first movie, having always been more of a Values man, but I believe there are a couple of gags included here that were probably present in the screenplay but cut from the final film. One of the more amusing ones is Pugsley eating motel soap like it's candy; later, Gomez, depressed after his brother has betrayed him and kicked him out of his own house, snacks on them from a bowl while watching daytime TV. This prefigures a similar joke in Netflix's Wednesday where Pugsley eats potpourri and shares the bowl with his father--probably the only instance in that miserable show where you actually feel like you're watching The Addams Family.

Familia Addams e deja bine-cunoscuta.

I sat down to read the novelization of my favorite childhood movie. This book was published the year I was born. 26 years later it is just as funny and enjoyable. This book could have been released last week. It is still a relevant and amazingly cooky story. *snap snap

A very good film novelization! It holds the usual charm that the Addams Family always has.
Personally, I found reading this made the dialogue even MORE memorable than the movie.
The inclusion of some screen captures from the movie was also fun to see!

Love the movie, love this book! Getting me in the mood for Halloween and it's only June. This was a great quick read, fun story, and fun and dreadful characters.

It was exactly a novelization of the uncut screenplay. Nothing more, nothing less.

More of a 3.5 star read.

There’s not a lot of extra scenes, but it adapts the movie really well and this movie is just great anyway.

LOVED THIS! I’m a huge fan of the film and was a bit skeptical about it being novelised…. But it was done beautifully. It was so true to the film whilst adding some extra ‘fan fiction’!

Ah, the many movie novelizations I read as a child...I am giving this one a three-star review because I only vaguely remember the actual writing in it, aside from Cousin Itt's dialogue being rendered as "Oot-oot-oot." I remember it being entertaining, and it left me satisfied as a kid until I could see the actual movie. The book was constantly at my side during my "Addams Family" period, right around the time the film was released. Still love the movie and the comic strip and TV sitcom that inspired it!

If you're really into novelizations, this is about as standard as they come, but I wish the prose had been better. Really, though, nothing can replace the movie for me, so I have to give it fewer stars than I would have otherwise.

I read this right after the movie came out, so I had to have been about 9 or 10. I didn't understand the concept of books-to-movies, or even books based on movies, so it mostly just confused me.

What a disappointment. I don't expect movie novelizations to be some grand masterpieces, but this felt as if it was written by some unimaginative 10-year-old.
