From New York Times bestselling author Evelyn Adams, a stand-alone small town romance about the overworked businessman with the noisy loving family and his harder working assistant who craves him and the family she’s just found.
Blake Southerland is tired. Building an empire is hard work and his meteoritic rise in wealth and power has come at a steep cost. He misses the family he’s always been close to, and although he has absolutely no desire to follow his siblings down the path to true love and happily ever after, he’s tired of Skyping into family events instead of showing up in person. He doesn’t need to fall in love; he needs a chance to find his center and the peace that comes from going home.
Samantha Braxton was raised as the only child of emotionally distant parents in a posh London neighborhood. Growing up, she had everything a child could want except the love and warmth she craves. When she has the opportunity to travel to Virginia with her outrageously sexy boss, she jumps at the chance to ditch her sheltered upbringing for a real adventure.
But will Blake’s big pushy loving family overwhelm or charm her and will the clash of their cultures be one more wedge between them or will the beautiful English rose help the jaded businessman find his way home?
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Evelyn Adams loves coffee, her kids, Netflix, and books. Not necessarily in that order. If she's not writing steamy romances, she's chasing kids, reading, or binging Mrs Maisel
Started out well and just became boring after about a third into the book. Lost focus on the romance and became more about the family and Ill Dad. And what thirty year old man calls his Dad "Daddy" , sorry that bugged me.
This book started out great for me- male boss and his female assistant travel from London to Virginia after his father is admitted to the hospital with heart issues. Once they arrived in the USA, the story became too much about his family. They overwhelmed me and stole attention from the budding romance.
'A Little Bit Closer' (The Southerlands, Book 5) by Evelyn Adams is a great read! This is Blake's story. I loved reading about Blake and Samantha. This story takes readers on a emotional journey. There's drama, humor, passion, fun, heartache, sadness, and strong family bonds. This is an excellent addition to The Southerlands Series. I can not wait to see what happens next in 'Love at the Lost and Found' (The Southerlands, Book 6). Highly recommend to all fans of romance, series, and family.
Blake and Samantha make a wonderful couple. After spending time flying to Blakes home, they really get each other. He could see beyond her defenses from a resticted emotionless childhood to the need to be the best. Ms. Adams did such a great job on portraying these aspects. It reminded me again that while first impressions are important, they are often wrong. We all react accordingly to our history and the situations we find ourselves in.
Couple was very bland. I'm not sure Blake even had a personality. Samantha was a bit better but not enough to save this. Definitely a filler book. There wasn't anything interesting enough about this couple to warrant a story.
Blake was in the middle of a big deal when the phone call came. He was all work all the time and that was why his business was such a success. His PA, Samantha did not only exceed at her job but she was gorgeous too. She was off limits to him. Samantha excelled at her job and had learned at an early age to hide her emotions. When Blake receives a call to come hone to Virginia his partner recommends Samantha to go with him to assist in the deal he was working on. It was a very important contract for the company to reach the next level. She knew all the ins and outs of the deal and would be a great asset to finalize it. This story brought the entire family in and was very emotional. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll love the characters even more. This author has been such a joy to find. Can't wait for the next in the series.
Evelyn Adams keeps turning the screws up on her readers. This novel was gut wrenching. The characters, Blake and Samantha are just regular Yank and Brit tossed together by the changing circumstances of the Yank. And having a twin brother who thinks the Brit is an 'ice maiden' who will bowl the Southerlands out of Blake's life and leave them on the sidelines only ramps up the tension in this novel. John Sotherland's life and legacy is definite in his family's love for each other and the way they support and comfort each other.
This Story was filled with all the love a large family can share, the joy and the pain, always with unconditional love. For me it touched my ❤️ heart, Emily's identity to Shalimar. I'm a grandmother of 80 years old who has used Shalimar for at least the last 80 years. It was very close to home for me. I've loved the other 4 books, love , the family and read this one non stop, couldn't put it down. Look forward to following the family to it's completions
A loving and tragic story all in one. Love like this is hard to find. It's awesome how well this was written. It's awesome how the family sticks together. Stories like this makes you wish all families are this close. I was glad that Blake was already home when their father passed. It so much like real life. It would have been hard if he had to come from London. The story flowed beautifully.
That is is big families for you. I love the Southerlands!! Blake and Samantha are quite a pair and totally read each other wrong as they work side by side. His father brings him back to the states; she comes along. Life is good. They really see each other. There are highs and a great low, but they get through it together. 📚🎉❤️🌻
I love this series about the Southerlands. Personally I was slightly disappointed on this one because it seemed the storyline/characters were not as powerful as the previous ones.
Blake Southerland is feeling the distance from being away from his family. Hearing how they are finding their significant others, while he been building his fortune in England. A family emergency sends Blake back to Virginia. Blake brings his assistant, Samantha, home with him because he needs to close a business deal. Samantha being an only child is not use to being around a large family and comes off a bit cold. I loved the way that Blake defends Samantha when Adam, his twin, was being a jerk.
I did not expect the ending so I will stop there. Looking forward to reading Taylor's, Blake's sister, story next.
A LITTLE BIT CLOSER is the fifth book in Evelyn Adams's "The Southerlands" series. This book is about Blake Southerland and his secretary Samantha. The story has them traveling to Virginia from England where they work. Blake gets a call that his father is ill and he misses his family so he decides to make the trip home. Although he is in the middle of a project, he decides to take his work and his secretary with him. Love comes as a bit of a surprise for both of them. I enjoyed many of this writer's works.
