Not too far from a cove beach where Cleopatra enchanted Anthony, the Mediterranean shore city of Antalya boasts a little historic valley town called Elmali. This is a secluded corner of paradise where remnants of an ancient cedar forest hangs on for dear life at the edges of high cliffs overlooking Mr. Tekin Bora’s birth place. Perhaps, Tekin’s fascination with mysteries of history come from these fertile lands which prospered ancient civilizations accounted so vividly by the famed historian of 5th Century BC, Herodotus of Halicarnassus, only 250km from Elmali.
Born in 1976, Tekin stormed like a mild Bora through his education and adventures abroad as a young man, and finally graduated from the Eskisehir Anatolian University. How befitting! Eskisehir, ‘the old city’, is a lamb’s tail-shake away from Gordion where Alexander The Great is claimed to have cut the famous knot with a single strike of his blade, just before he visited the philosopher Diogenes of Sinope to the north who sharply scolded Alexander for daring to disrupt his leisure in the Black Sea late afternoon sun. Being a clever tekin on the rise, envious Alexander is reputed to have said, ‘If I had not been Alexander, I would have preferred to be Diogenes!’ To which Diogenes is said to have retorted: ‘If I weren’t myself, I too would have preferred to be Diogenes!’
Now living in Istanbul, how could he possibly be expected to resist the urge of writing inspired by colorful and rich history surrounding him. Undoubtedly Tekin will encounter many more mysteries in the alleys of history criss-crossing Turkey.
In search of wisdom, Tekin Bora looks forward to sharing with his readers the discoveries of what might have been, how could it have been and why it was!
I’ve always been into mystery novels, but Aquarian made me think on certain things usually taken for granted and never even spared a moment to think about. The most striking thing about the book for me is the interpretation of what we know as “the law of attraction”. The book bears certain resemblances to "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne which I also enjoyed but still felt something was missing as I was reading it. The actual system that makes the law of attraction operate is explained more clearly and rationally in Aquarian. It all makes sense now. I am now more convinced that God has given us the power to shape our own future and destiny, starting with ourselves. We just have to learn how to wield that power.
I was most intrigued by the symbols and ciphers hidden in the Mona Lisa painting. I’m a fan of Da Vinci’s works and really enjoyed the details described in the book. I’m not sure how much of it was fiction and how much of it was based on research, though. I guess I’ll now try to read from other resources about what I’ve learnt from the book about Mona Lisa and Da Vinci’s life.
Well, when I read The Secret, I thought "OK, we can control our lives. If we think positive, positive things will happen to us." But I could not accept the idea that one can be rich just because they are thinking positive- I just didn't buy it. Finally somebody stepped up and said "Yes, the law of attraction works, but you can't expect it to do the whole job for you. And by itself it cannot attract a cheque! Still keep being positive but you have to work for it, too." The Secret asserts that you have to ask Universe for everything you desire. It didn't make much sense, either. So I liked Aquarian's perspective better as it says it is not the universe that will bring you brilliant ideas to make you rich, but it is the water flowing inside your veins- in your brains and organs- that can change your thoughts and boost our creativity. All in all, although I enjoyed The Secret; Aquarian made much more sense to me. And unlike The Secret, it's not written in the informative style, it presents you a mysterious story extending from New York to Jerusalem and Istanbul.
I love love love this book! Great glimpses of mystical teaching and a whole different perspective on life. And of course WATER... The substance that is almost a "panacea" in itself. And a lot of little-known facts about water. So the book has a rich content. Plus, I felt so lucky to have already read the book when I saw the author is organizing a book question contest. Because I've always wanted to visit Italy.
