The Future of Architecture

Rate this book
Internationally acclaimed Dutch architect Herman Hertzberger (born 1932), an early proponent and practitioner of the so-called school of "structuralism" (sustainable buildings that can evolve to meet their users’ changing needs), invited colleagues and students to reflect on the future of architecture. In the resulting book, Hertzberger, Anna Heringer, Jean-Philippe Vassal and other contributors champion architecture that is low-impact and adaptable. They call for structures that place human comfort and functionality above decoration and egotistical statements. Recognizing the necessity to change the way we build if we want to preserve the planet, this insightful volume challenges designers to imagine new ways of practicing architecture that not only consume fewer construction resources but are also ecologically sound in their long-term energy use.

It's never bad to bring the positivity among architect because it is one of the main source to keep us alive even if it's almost utopia.

With catchy introduction and simple graphics this book can successfully attract me. But the attraction can only be as an introductory. Turns out this book was made as the result of a symposium. Consist of 95 pages essay with 10 different theme and many more writer, the book couldn't satisfy deeper and futher discussion about the future of architecture. But as I said earlier, positivity have a key role here.

To build an architecture structure that is socially and economically fair, as well as environmentally friendly. To make humane and beautiful built environment. And to create a space generated a good feeling in all of us. It is almost an impossible list to do, a contrary. Without optimism architect(ure) will never survive.
