This is my third book by this author and one of the things I've come to love about her work is that the characters are very realistic. I also like that her characters appeal to me on an emotional level. Rather than being drawn in by supernatural perks or good looks and charm, it's the raw emotion that gets me. This makes for some very appealing characters. Some I may dislike and some I may love, but there's always something to enjoy. Also, the plots of the last two books I read were very well done. They're simple, but plot development is great. Unfortunately, Diversions fell flat for me in these two areas. The concept was interesting, but the development of the story left a lot to be desired. It lacked focus and excitement. As for the characters, I liked Jason well enough. I understood the chip on his shoulder and his uncertainty. Christine I didn't care for either way. I thought she was a little too pushy and naive. I felt like she jumped into something that wasn't her business (beyond confronting her fiancee about it) and handled it in a way that really wasn't smart. She was fickle and indecisive. The romantic aspect of the story just didn't appeal to me. The second half of the book is better than the first, but it was just an okay read for me.
