Bound by the attributes of valor and compassion, the Beloved are sent by the Father to battle demons head on in order to help those in greatest need. But as their prowess and power grows they face a new threat, their own weaknesses.

Major Daniel Parker's life changes in an instant when he comes to the aid of one his soldiers. In a flash, Major Parker transforms from a Union Officer fighting in the Civil War to a Beloved. But Daniel's thirst for power clouds his judgment leaving him damned to an eternal hell of suffering and remorse at the hands of an ancient demon. His only chance at salvation now lies with his younger brother, Jonathan.

No matter the price, Jonathan will not abandon Daniel. But does he have the strength and courage to save his brother? Can he overcome the temptations that consumed Daniel or will he become a victim as well? The scar upon his chest is the key to who he must become.

Contrasting the valiant qualities of the Beloved with the vicious intent of the demons, Rogue inextricably weaves real-life battles of the Union and Confederate armies with the mystical wars between demons and the Beloved.

About the author

P.A. Minyard

P.A. Minyard's early years often found her immersed in comics, manga, and anime, so her works are influenced by legends that include Rumiko Takahashi and Hayao Miyazaki. While she marvels at those who write pages and pages of glorious prose, Minyard's novels are fast paced and action packed, like a roller coaster that too-soon screeches to an unexpected halt!
Like most storytellers, P.A. Minyard has a curious alter-ego. When she's not writing about slaying demons, she considers herself blessed to work with cancer patients as a Licensed Radiation Therapist and Board Certified Medical Dosimetrist. Minyard says that cancer has taught her to lavish praise, be generous with her time and fearless when pursuing passions - because life is short.

Good vs Evil, Demons vs the Beloved, the battle between these spiritual factions rages on during one of the most tumultuous times in American history, the Civil War, the North vs the South. A young Major in the Northern Army is killed by a confederate officer with evil and haunting eyes. Instead of dying and going on to a better place, Daniel Parker is offered a chance to save others who have fallen to the demons that roam the world. Disbelieving, Daniel has no idea what to make of the man before him. Is he hallucinating? Is this the final test before entering into eternal peace? Can he really be brought back to life and return to his family? Finally convinced, he becomes a Beloved, a good soul who has the power to vanquish demons, at a price. When pride gets in his way, he seeks revenge on the demon that killed him, determined he is strong enough to overpower or out maneuver the vile creature. He succeeds, far too easily and it isn’t until later that he learns the horrible truth of what his rash actions have unleashed. He has become a monster. The one he hurts the most is his younger brother, Jonathan, who worships him. As he returns to battle, broken and fighting the evil within, only young Jonathan can save him, but the price is painfully high. Will love win out at any cost?

Rogue by P. A. Minyard is historical fiction with a beautiful, heartbreaking twist. Ms. Minyard executes her tale with deft precision, a heart full of emotion. Her characters are fleshed out in the charm and decorum of the era. The dialogue is lifelike. Emotions are palpable, and the flow from scene to scene blends seamlessly while rounding out the tale and the message she conveys.
Take a trip back in time, feel the suffering, “see” it, feel the love that is shared between brothers, between friend and family as wrongs must be made right and good must conquer evil in the never ending battle for people’s souls. Perhaps the Beloved walk among us today, conquering unseen evil!

Part historical fiction, part family saga, part spiritual, Rogue is a delightful find!

Rogue by PA Minyard is a story about the life of a family torn apart by the war. When Daniel Parker went to join the army, his family prayed for his safe return every day, looking forward to the arrival of the mailman and praying that there would be a letter from him. Jonathan, Daniel's little brother, was probably the most affected by his brother's departure. When Daniel got fatal wounds on the battlefield, he was brought back to life by the power of the Father, made a Beloved and given powers to fight evil. He was then brought back home to his family where he started his duties as a Beloved. Can Daniel fight evil and hide his powers from the watchful eyes of his parents his sister and his admiring young brother? How will all this affect his family, especially brother who has always looked at him as a role model.

I enjoyed reading Rouge. Connecting with Daniel's family as they went through the day-to-day struggles of life while waiting for him and praying for his safe return. I found myself relating to them, praying with them and hoping with them. But then the story took an interesting twist after Daniel received his super powers and I found myself filled with suspense and anticipation, turning page after page, eager to find out what the next chapter would bring, where Daniel would go next in his journey as a Beloved. PA Minyard delivered a captivating story that kept me interested from start to finish.

Book Review & Giveaway: Last year we reviewed The Beloved, a debut novel by P.A. MInyard. It contained a novel concept (no pun intended) that was wonderful. When she told me that she had completed Book #2 in the series, Rogue, I could hardly wait to see where these adventures would lead. Rogue is a very different novel from The Beloved in that it takes us back in time to the Civil War era and brothers who are headed off to war. It is at its heart a good vs. evil tale. Sadly, sometimes even those we trust the most can have a hidden agenda. To make it even better, Ms. Minyard has offered an autographed copy that one of you will win so be sure to enter our giveaway at http://popcornreads.com/?p=7093.

Rogue, second book in the Beloved series, improves upon the first in storytelling. I really liked the idea of a Beloved going dark, and I hope that's not the last we see of that if there are more Beloved books in the future. Also like the first book, it has the good kind of romance - you can feel it, it's sweet, but it's not ruling over the rest of the book.

I think the only problem is that it should have been longer. There would have been more time to explore the consequences of Daniel turning evil, and I think that would have been really cool. But it was still a very good book, and I would recommend it!
