A perfect representation of the foods in the 70s.

When I review a cookbook, I like to try a dish and see how the instructions are and how the food taste. For this cookbook, I made the Bouillabaisse which was awesome in flavor. The list of ingredients were quite simple and the directions were very easy to follow. I took the author’s suggestion and served it with crusty bread. Fabulous.

The cookbook is divided into the following sections:
Introduction
Appetizers and Sides - Examples: Cucumber Finger Sandwiches and Waldorf Salad
3. Main Dishes - Examples: Chicken and La King and Beef Goulash
4. Desserts and Sweets - Examples: Blueberry Buckle and Eclair
5. Drinks - Examples: Planter’s Punch and Cherry Lime Rickey

Each recipe includes a picture, preparation time, cooking time, servings, ingredients, directions, and nutrition information.

Yummy Time Capsule

Working my way through this cookbook series and I very much enjoyed this decade's recipes. I especially enjoyed the 70's dessert section and will definitely be making some of these recipes this week. I like how easy, simple and straightforward the book layout is.

Vintage Recipes of the 1970s: A Retro Cookbook That Will Bring Back
Culinary Treasures From a Bygone Timeby Kevin Palmer McDermott
This book starts out with table of contents where recipes are listed under meal categories and the recipes.
Short intro about the time of the recipe making.
Each recipe starts with a title, prep and cook times and servings.
List of ingredients and you should be able to substitute for your healthier dietary needs: low fat, low sodium, low sugar and fresh vs canned items.
Some call for a lot of items, be sure to have them all first.
Directions are given and there is some nutritional information, not sure of serving size: calories, fat, carbs and protein. There are NO color photos.
Good memories of most of the food in this book as it's what we grew up eating.

This is a delightful tribute to the culinary trends and unique flavours of the 1970s, a decade known for its bold experimentation and distinctive style. This retro cookbook takes readers on a nostalgic trip down memory lane, offering a taste of an era that embraced convenience foods, quirky combinations, and a flair for presentation.

The cookbook is filled with iconic 1970s dishes, from savoury casseroles to popular party foods like cheese fondue, devilled eggs, and prawn cocktail. It also dives into desserts that defined the decade, such as the beloved Black Forest gateau and the classic pineapple upside-down cake.

The author has skillfully selected recipes that capture the authentic essence of the period, and each one is presented with clear, easy-to-follow instructions.

Ah, the 70s cookbook... It's certainly authentic because I remember a number of these dishes being popular. The instructions are easy to follow, the ingredients are readily obtainable. With that said the 70s was a time of strange salads, turning vegetables into more elaborate side dishes rather than just putting them on the plate and experimenting with more "exotic" cuisines.

So for me, there are a few appetizers and main dish recipes that I will likely use and quite a number that I will ignore. The desserts and drinks sections will be what I return to in this particular cookbook. But if you want to try out things like Waldorf salad, broccoli casserole, Chicken Marsala or paella and other recipes like that, this is a great choice.

Thanks to the author for my complimentary copy, it brought back memories (both good and bad!) and was a pleasure to review.

This is the third time I spent on a review for this book. Amazon rejected the first and the computer malfunction for he second.

I am a very fussy eater, a pub's fare kind of taste. There were recipes I like and ones that I wouldn't want to try at all. There was a few recipes I made. There was one ingredient (2 recipes) that caught me by surprise (Escargot).

I tried the Fried Mozzarella Sticks. Just like the frozen ones I buy at the local grocery store. The Chicken A La King without mushrooms was just like my mom's recipe. Lemon Bars and Oatmeal Raisin Cookies complete the recipes I tried.

Another interesting look at vintage recipes. There are a variety of recipes from simple, Fruit and Cheese Skewers, to fancier recipes like Bouillabaisse. There are recipes for Appetizers & Sides (19), Main Dishes (19), Desserts (13), and Drinks (13). There are both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I can’t wait to make the Beef Goulash.

This was another fun and easy cookbook from Kevin. Vintage Recipes of the 1970s has goodies such as macaroni and cheese, a delicious cheddar beer dip, waldorf salad, chicken piccata and chicken marsala. I haven't gotten to try them all yet, but the ones I've tried have been quick and easy. A few were even eaten by my young son, which is a miracle in itself. Loved it!.

All-American food for any era

Familiar American cooking explained in understandable way. The Mac n Cheese and meatloaf looked especially yummy. Photo accompanies each scrumptious recipe. Could provide ideas for your next dinner., or serve as a basic textbook for those just starting to cook.

I'm really enjoying these books. It's so interesting to see how the food changes decade to decade and what meat or vegetable seems more popular. I've found at least one recipe from each book to try.

Ok but ...

Nice idea, execution rather lacking. No history or information about the dishes though the nutrition tags at the end of each is appreciated.
