I love Shari Low's books, especially her One books. Although it is not a series they have a central theme of taking place during One of something (Day, Christmas, Summer, Weekend) and often have recurring characters. It's such a thrill to visit with past side characters and see them being front and center in a story. What I like most about these books is the realistic way the situations, characters and relationships are portrayed, I found that aspect a bit lacking in this one. It was far too schmaltzy for my tastes and some not-so-realistic situations had me shaking my head.
The main issues I had were all the consequences involving social media, it was just too unbelievable to me. I could look past that for the sake of entertainment but what I couldn't look past was Alice and her staying with Larry as long as she did once his scandal was revealed. There was no reason for her to stay after that. She had all the evidence she needed then to take him down a notch and get him in trouble with the law. She had that proof all along and didn't use it to protect her son. Instead, she cut him off from all contact. I didn't understand it.
Now let's get to what I did like about this book. I loved that all the characters are connected and how Shari Low mixed humour with her more serious topics. She always manages to evoke a multitude of emotions in me and has me laughing out loud. The best part of this book is the author's forward and afterward. The story is based on Low's own experience of losing precious jewels while taking a trip. This isn't my favourite Low book (That is reserved for One Day with You and One Christmas Eve .) but it was still a very enjoyable read.

"I've got one in my bag, if you want to risk potential botulism by diving in there. I'm sure there's a Coronation chicken sandwich from last week lurking in the bottom.'
'I'll take my chances,' I laughed and was about to close my bag when a wrecking ball of realisation slammed into the picture and hit me right in the stomach. Oh, dear God, no.
My eyes searched as my hands frantically began to pull every single thing from the bag. Phone. Purse. Perfume. Lipstick. Electricity bill. I had no idea why that was there, because I was sure I'd paid it. Make-up compact. Boarding pass. Hair bobbles. Don's comb. A plastic spoon I always carried in case little Buddy needed an emergency yoghurt. Assorted tissues. A packet of mints. Some loose change.
No brush.

MY THOUGHTS: This is a stunning multi-generational drama cum romance. Val pops up regularly in Shari Low's novels, and she is an absolute darling, and a hoot!
There is an author's note at the beginning, talking about how this book came to be and, at the end, another with the outcome of her own experience. Don't skip these. There's also a precis of the characters at the beginning, but the four we need to concern ourselves most with are the four whose points of view narrate the story: Val Murray, mother, grandmother, friend and widow who has a love of caramel wafers; Alice McLenn, a cleaner who is tied to a man she despises and mother of Rory; Rory Brookes McLenn, Alice's son, married to the glamorous Julia, and currently weathering yet another personal storm; and Sophie Smith, a primary school teacher in search of the ex she has never forgotten.
One Long Weekend is a book that had my anxiety levels soaring through the roof. I am paranoid about losing my rings! So I felt every bit of and empathised with Val's panic and stress. After reading this I am going to be even more vigilant!
The bulk of the story takes place over a four-day weekend, so the pacing and emotions are intense. I don't want to say anything more about the plot because there's nothing I can say that isn't going to act as a spoiler. Suffice it to say that this is classic Shari Low fare - it's amusing, entertaining and utterly heart-wrenching as the various characters come together in search of Val's rings. If you haven't read a Shari Low book before, what are you waiting for? - now is a great time to start!

When Val Murray's beloved Don passed away she was distraught. Agreeing to leave her home in Glasgow to visit relatives in London for two weeks, Val was stressed, upset and grieving. When she discovered the mementos from Don and others she'd lost, were missing, she searched. They all searched. Then Carol activated her social media followers to help. Meanwhile Sophie wanted to find her lost love, heading to Glasgow for the weekend. But fate saw her cross paths with a grumpy taxi driver..
Alice had had enough of her life; the husband she thought she loved she now despised and she was trying to work out how to leave him. She'd cut her son Rory off from them a year ago, both to save his relationship and save him from his father. Stoically and determinedly, Alice continued on her course.
One Long Weekend is my second read by Shari Low and I loved it. Set over three days, mostly in Glasgow, the closeness of the friends, the devastation of losing her most precious possessions, the wonder of technology and hope; never give up. One Long Weekend is entwined with an event in the author's life, and what gave her the ideas for this book. Fascinating, heartwarming and delightful - Val was a pleasure to listen to; to chat with. Highly recommended.

And it really was a long, eventful, action packed weekend
But of course as expected with this author a very very for us,readable weekend
Got to say firstly loved ( although sad ) how the book starts and finishes with the authors story of what happened to her to make the book come to fruition, it’s very moving and really added an extra part to the actual fiction story
So,the story…..no one does timed stories like this author and we meet old,and new characters who through accident and misfortune all have their lives entangled as they are trying to sort out their woes,hardships and loves…it’s so well done and had me rooting for the right ones throughout and booing the baddie and shaking my head at Sandra,all emotions are here and so much happens in this weekend it captivates you and you HAVE to carry on reading to find out who gets their just desserts and who things work out well for
I love the authors writing,comedy and serious and the way it is switched to each situation as needed,another cracking read from this brilliant author
But of course as expected with this author a very very for us,readable weekend

Reading One Long Weekend by Sherry Lowe it’s like gossiping with family we get to see those characters we love in every now and then someone shows up and you’re like oh it’s been so long since I’ve seen them. It gives you such an awesome feeling in this book it focuses on Aunt Val. She is still trying to get over the loss of her beloved dawn when the book starts after a sleepless night she is rushing to get to the airport because she was going to visit Carly and Caro in London. In her haste she puts four rings that are sentimental in her pocketbook but because she doesn’t secure the compartment by the time she reaches London she cannot find them anywhere. When Val says she has to go back to find her rings Carly and Caro seeing the state she is in goes with her back to Scotland. While this is happening a girl named Sophie who landed in Scotland is aunt Val was exiting uses the same crabby cab driver and finds her rings and a gold hairbrush in the foot well but while arguing as to what to do with the rings with the rude cab driver, he slumps in his seat they wreck and Sophie is knocked out. Somewhere else in London earlier that morning Alice gets home from her job cleaning a local school and just wants five minutes of peace from her abusive husband Larry and thankfully he is soon called to work as they’re shorthanded. When Lowery leaves, she sits in their tiny garden and thinks about her son Rory who she misses so much and doesn’t know that somewhere else in Scotland he is being told by his wife Juliet she wants a divorce. These four stories that seem independent from each other will come together and True to Sherry Lowe’s fantastic writing style some of them will become friends but the biggest question of all is will Aunt Val get her rings back. I always think of Sherry Lowe’s books like thrillers with happy endings and a dash of romance I love her books so much and love to see those from previous books make cameos I think Sherry Lowe does Scotland Credit and is a great ambassador for that country. Either way I totally love her books and can’t wait to read more from one of my favorite authors. I want to thank Boldwood books for my free Ark copy via Net Galley. I love how Low brings together a range of characters over a disastrous event. As you would expect, this story takes place over a long weekend (Friday through to Sunday) and is narrated from four character view points. This isn’t as confusing as it would seem, thanks to the long chapters and developed characterisation.
At some points the character chapter would finish on a cliff-hanger, making me desperate for the story to circle back to them to find out more. But something else would then happen which would distract me and keep me hooked on the story as a whole. Therefore, I felt fully invested in all of the characters and enjoyed how they finally cross paths to lead to a happy conclusion.
The author’s introductory note definitely had my anxious nerves tingling, as readers learn that Val losing her precious rings in this book is based on a personal experience. The opening chapter consequently sets up this event and I could feel my anxiety rising, desperate for Val to hold on to her precious treasures. Yet, without this moment, readers would not get the opportunity to meet Sophie on her journey to reconnect with an old flame, Rory and his unexpected divorce, and Alice who is secretly plotting to leave her husband. Cleverly the author connects these characters together and I loved how there is so much warmth between these central people.
Fans of Shari Low will recognise some characters from previous books. I was delighted to read a story with Val as the central character because I have enjoyed seeing her in her other stories. This is still a solo book but I liked knowing a bit more about these repeat characters, having fond recollections of previous Low novels. After all, these characters work so well, what is the harm in recycling them again?!
I have read several books by this author that take place over a small time period with intense actions. Whilst I (thankfully!) did not find it a heart-wrenching tear jerker that others have been, I appreciated the switch between the different view points, meeting together over a couple of days. I think this helped me connect with the characters better, especially as the story felt so emotive with the losing of the rings. It was a lovely read from Low that I enjoyed every step of the way, even if I did hate the prospect of losing something so precious!

One Long Weekend brings together women of various ages, social status and situations. Val Murray is visiting her niece and before she leaves the house, grabs 4 rings that mean everything to her. She puts them in a velvet bag and into her purse. Unfortunately, she loses them when they fall out of her bag in the backseat of the cab she takes to the airport. Her nieces, who are influencers plan to use their platforms to help her recover them. Sophie Smith took a rain check on a marriage proposal, when her mom becomes ill. Now that she has passed away, she heads to Glasgow to see if she can find the man that she wants to marry. Taking the cab that Val had been in, she finds the bag, but before she can do anything with them, the driver has an episode and they are in an accident. Rushed to the hospital, she forgets all about the bag. Alice McLenn stood by her husband, Larry when a scandal cost them everything. Larry was driving the cab and is now in surgery. He is once again in the headlines, bringing the sordid story back to the public eye and Alice has had enough. With the help of her son, Rory, who had been estranged with her before the accident, she wants to help make things right for the young lady who was in his cab when the accident occurred. Rory's wife is now divorcing him as she has had enough of the scandal that keeps resurfacing, and he has also lost his job at her father's company. Can these four broken hearts heal over this One Long Weekend?
This was such a delightful uplifting story. I loved all the main characters and wanted their stories to have a happy ending, but there were too many of them for it all to work out. Val's nieces were a wonderful addition to this story. I am not a big fan of most social influencers in books, but these two were real, and the way they helped others with their clout, not even considering their aunt was wonderful. Sophie was my favorite of the women. She had been through so much with the illness of her mother and the dependence of her father on her. Her sister is her best friend and their conversations were a hoot. When she lost track of Ash, I had a feeling things might not work out for her, but I was still rooting for her. She took a few chances, which was how she ended up in the hospital in the first place. She is such an honest and caring person, that even though she no longer had the rings, she still tried to help Val find them. Alice was the character I felt the most sorry for. She had stood by her husband while he went through his trial for his crimes, but he treated her terribly. Pushing her son away to save his happiness broke her heart, but she was willing to do it for him. The story was well written with each step connecting to the next to enable these characters to heal, share their stories and eventually decide on their next moves. Would they find what they were looking for? Each makes decisions for their lives, not necessarily what they set out to do, but ones that give them the opportunity for new beginnings and happiness ahead. A wonderful uplifting story that I very much enjoyed. I love Shari Low's writing. It takes these different storylines and weaves them together in a delightful narrative that kept me invested in this story from the first page to the last. I enjoyed hearing her story of her inspiration for this book.

The story was well written with each step connecting to the next to enable these characters to heal, share their stories and eventually decide on their next moves. Would they find what they were looking for? Each makes decisions for their lives, not necessarily what they set out to do, but ones that give them the opportunity for new beginnings and happiness ahead. A wonderful uplifting story that I very much enjoyed. I love Shari Low's writing. It takes these different storylines and weaves them together in a delightful narrative that kept me invested in this story from the first page to the last. I enjoyed hearing her story of her inspiration for this book.

Another fabulous, emotional rollercoaster of a book by this author! Packed full of the most loveable characters, the most hideous villains and a plotline that makes it impossible to put the book down! Once again, I loved how old characters from books passed pop up and are just ass fabulous as they were in previous books!

Based her her own real life experience Shari Low writes one of her famous "one" novels. I've loved all of them. In this novel Val is the main character, we've met her in a couple of books before, she's an exuberant effervescent character normally but a recent bereavement has knocked her for six so her 2 nieces Carly (from 'what if') and Carol invite her to London but when she loses her treasured rings she feels bereft.
Sophie is travelling to Glasgow to try to reconnect with an ex but has the misfortune to be in disgraced MP Larry McLenn's taxi. He's rude, surly and its no wonder his wife Alice wants to distance herself from him to the extent that she is estranged from her beloved son Rory.
As with all of the "One" series, the novel takes place over one weekend, seemingly unconnected characters all merge to create a wonderful story of hope and friendship. Tears of sorrow and laughter mingle together in this delightful read. It seems an injustice to Shari to have read it in one day but the words flowed from the page, I just couldn't put it down.
I'm just sorry Shari didn't get her Happy ending.

Have tissues at the ready, like Val I need some waterproof mascara!
As always it was an absolute delight being in Shari’s world especially with Val my absolute favourite character.
This book is so full of emotion but so wonderful and heartwarming.
Sophie, Val and Alice are all such strong women and I loved being on an adventure with them three women with three very different paths and experiences. Rory was such a contrast but also a breathe of fresh air.
Val has lost her most treasured possessions and her nieces are determined to help her find them.

This was my first book by this author. Such a wonderful writer. It’s sad, touching, funny. You grow to love some characters and truly dislike others. It was a weekend well spent. Definitely have found a worthy writer to follow.

Oh, I love this author's books! This is a standalone book, but is also sort of part of a series. It can however be easily read without having read the other books! The book draws on experience from the author herself, and we begin with one of the main characters, Val Murray losing a set of rings on the way to the airport which are very important to her. This then results in a culmination of different characters stories all linking together in a quest not just to get Val her rings back, but to solve the other characters problems too!
As well as meeting Val, we also have the stories of Sophie Smith who has gone to Glasgow to find the love of her life, Alice McLenn who is planning to leave her husband, and Rory Brookes whose wife has announced she is leaving him. I love how this author writes so that all these different characters have their own storyline, but then they all entwine with each other as well as the book moves on! The characters are all so likeable and I didn't dislike any of them (with the exception of Alice's husband!) I went through differing emotions as I read this book and found myself with tears in my eyes on more than one occasion! Whilst the characters individual storylines are so sad, the whole book was heart-warming and uplifting leaving me happy by the end of it!!

This is the second book that I’ve read by this author and yet again it has literally blown me away with how absolutely brilliant it was. There were so many wonderful things about this book that I just loved, from all the various characters to the superb storyline. We meet and get the POV’s of the four main characters in alternating chapters throughout the book and I really liked the way the author done this. As soon as I had finished the first chapter I just knew this was going to be another fabulous read by Shari and I can’t wait to read her next book. This was quite an emotional read in places , and I must make a special mention to the authors words at the start and finish of this book. This is a wonderful read and one I won’t be forgetting in a hurry .

Shari Low books are incredibly special! It happens nearly every time, when I am reading a Shari Low book and someone asks me what I am reading, I get so excited that I end up giving them a full recap of the story or at least as far as I have gotten and why the book is so amazing and basically why I need to stop telling them about it and just go back to reading it. It happened with this book too and of course I sent my friend all the links for buying this book as soon as I was done telling her about it. I can't wait to spread the word!
One Long Weekend is really just that, one long weekend where we mainly follow Val's story, she tells her's in first person, but it is also Sophie's story and Alice and her son Rory, but slightly less so, so those are told in third person. Another amazing emotional and entertaining story from this awesome author!
Instantly I was hooked into the intertwined stories of all the various characters in this book.
Over the course of the long weekend we are introduced to several characters who have some dramatic things occurring to them. With each character I was emotionally invested and desperately wanted to find out what was happening with them. I loved how the chapters were evenly shared out between them, making their stories more suspenseful by doing so.
Val’s story was so heartbreaking and really made you feel for her. It was fantastic to see the level of support that she received.
Sophie was an interesting character too and her own backstory was filled with sadness but her determination to find her lost love was inspiring.
Alice was a character I could identify with and I was willing her on every step of the way.
Rory was another lovely character who was estranged from his mother and was living a difficult life due to his narcissistic father, I so wanted him to be happy and to be back with his devoted mother.
All their stories were tied up together so beautifully and I was incredibly moved by their situations. Such a wonderful book that was heartwarming and exciting to read.

Shari's latest book was is inspired by a recent event where she lost some precious jewellery from an open pocket in her handbag on a flight! The story is picked up by lovable widow Val, who loses some precious rings whilst venturing out to visit family for the first time since her hubsands death.
I found the beginning of the book a little tricky to get into as I was a bit overwhelmed with information with the summary and backstories of all the characters! However, by the second chapter, I was quickly immersed in their stories!
This is another great book from Shari. I loved all of the main characters and it was great to revisit some familiar faces from her previous novels. A fab read for the summer!

You always know you're in for an absolute delight when Low unleashes another book onto the public. I've lost count of how many of her books I have read to date and they're always 4 or 5 star winners.
One Long Weekend was no exception.
It's a beautifully written story that takes us on a whirlwind of emotions as we follow the stories of our four main characters, Val, Sophie, Alice and Rory. All of whom find themselves in difficult situations and whose stories seamlessly intertwine with each other.
We've met Val on several previous occasions and we become acquainted with some new, who I'm sure we'll be hearing from again.
A wonderful uplifting story of second chance and friendships.
I highly recommend both the book and the author.

This is quite heavy for me, probably due more to the writing rather than the storyline.
As for the story, it's quite entertaining to delve into the drama of the characters, I did feel quite saddened by their circumstances and entertained by the humour.
There are parts I couldn't quite enjoy, especially on the parts of McLean, although half of her parts were okay.
Overall, I think this is okay? It's just didn't endeared me that much.

It's no secret that I adore all of this author's books and this one is stupendous. Four separate stories which, over three days, overlap and become entwined - you just wouldn't believe how much is going on. For me, the icing on the cake was the personal touch from Shari, details of what inspired the story. With her trademark humour sprinkled amongst everything else going on, this is a cracking read and another I will be recommending to all and sundry. Absolutely fabulous, and an easy decision to award this one all five sparkling stars. The fabulous cover merits a mention too!

Another interesting read from Shari Low but this time inspired by a real life experience of her own which I felt added an extra dimension to the book especially with the follow up at the end of the book! A great example of drawing upon your own experiences to influence your writing!

Very easy quick read. I enjoyed this book, especially the missing rings as I recently had something similar happen to me. While I was lucky mine were found in my house, I felt the emotions of losing mine as they were sentimentally invaluable to me.
