Rules to escape my past: 1. Never have a one-night stand. 2. Never give my heart to a grumpy bosshole.
Billionaire surgeon Lucas Hill made me break them both. The first time I met him was a passionate fling in another state.
Even after two years, I still feel the ghost of his touch on my skin.
When I followed my friend to be with her fiancé, I never expected to reunite with him. Or for my friend to be engaged to his father!
Now that we’re working and living together, it’s getting harder to move on from the night we shared. Lucas won’t let me move on either, no matter how much baggage I bring into this relationship.
My past of abuse, blackmail, and a desperate stalker would make any man run from me. But Lucas is stubbornly protective.
I can’t give myself to him fully, not when my past hunts me down. Or when the present does everything to keep us apart.
Olivia first meets Lucas in a bar in Chicago but after a great evening together she leaves him with just a note of thanks. Two years later his dad asks him to give a job to someone and he's shocked to see the lady from the bar again, and secretly really pleased; giving her the role of his assistant without an interview. He's grown up in wealth but his family are anything but close with no love lost between his 4 siblings or his parents, making him envious of close families. Olivia's struggled all her life but is trying to do something more and make a life for herself in Richmond, having moved there with her friend who's engaged, but can she truly escape her past?
This is a good story with wonderful chemistry between the main characters. There is action, drama, strained family relationships, romance, misunderstandings, humor and some great twists. The story is told mainly from the POV of both Olivia and Lucas, with a few other characters telling a bit; some of it being like a monologue with the characters talking to the reader (these bits really made me smile).
Having met Lucas' brothers and sisters I hope we'll get to read their stories, and I'm sure their mother's story is an interesting one too.

This was a story about Olivia and Lucas. They meet and are immediately drawn to each other. They both have had unusual upbringings and crave having a true family connection. Lucas has truly horrible parents, along with several siblings but they have never been close.
Olivia wants more out of life than what she has but has to make a drastic change on how she learns a living.
Their story is crazy, dangerous and at times silly too.
Kate is Olivia's best friend and she has struggles of her own.
I wasn't sure at first if I liked the characters but they grew on me. I definitely didn't like Lucas's parents and I am still not sure about his siblings. They are a strange bunch.
I liked the story. The author is trying to expose several different seedy parts of society and proving that not all people are bad and evil. We are pretty resilient and have the ability to rise above our situations in life, without hurting ourselves and others in the process.
The book doesn't end on a cliffhanger ( thankfully) but alluded to more of a story to come...?.

Lucas is brought up in wealth with awful people as parents who belittled and were cruel towards their children, Olivia an orphan brought up by relatives feels in order to have money she needs to be an escort. A one night stand with Lucas changes all that and she vouches to be better. Two years later she becomes his secretary at his hospital. Their relationship is not an easy one, full of drama, secrets, some steam and still some truly awful parents, his siblings are no better. It does have a happy ending though. Tbh I wasn’t really keen on the main characters and Lucas father was really a creep.
Lucas and Olivia have lived dysfunctional lives growing up. In spite all of that Lucas is successful, and Olivia may have gone her route in an unorthodox way was doing well. They meet at a bar, have an intimate night but go separate ways. They reconnect when Olivia's girlfriend decides to follow her fiancé back to his home and ask to follow along. Doing so brings her back to Lucas. This story has some serious twists and turns that will keep you glued to the pages and cheering for Lucas and Olivia to get their chance for happiness.

Olivia meets Lucas one night in a bar. They spend the night together, but she leaves quietly in the morning without letting him know any more about her. Two years later, Lucas' dad asks him to give someone a job; turns out that person who needs a job is Olivia. Lucas is thrilled because he has thought about her a lot so he gives her the job as his assistant without even an interview. They start to get closer but Olivia is running from something. Can Lucas keep her safe?
I loved Olivia and Lucas but the rest of the characters made me want to pull my hair out. They are so holier-than-thou and it's annoying!
Olivia has a past that could be dangerous and how she earns a living in the beginning needs a drastic change after she experiences the best night ever with Lucas. When she ends up as his secretary and she is hunted by a stalker, he vows to be by her side. This was a great story of two people from different backgrounds who find love and need to get past various obstacles before they can find a happy end together.
