I don't know how many stars to rate this because I loved some things and then I hated others.
This starts about 20 years prior and Nova's dad (the h=heroine) has most of his family slaughtered. His 14 year old is killed, his wife who was fvcking another man at home was shot dead, and he runs with his consigliere to the park where the nanny was shot dead but the nova was alive with the alessio's (the consiglieres) daughter. Novas dad vigo asks alessio to switch the daughters so that nova can stay protected. they were four years old but somehow they got these children to agree to switch places without questions? Like....how did they pull that off? Because kids are honest as fuck and they will let others know the TRUTH. And they're not good liars so.......anyone ever see a 3/4 year old kid say he/she didn't eat a chocolate bar with chocolate smeared all over their face? Uh huh.
Fast forward to present day when nova is now a trained bodyguard for the mafia and gia is a mafia princess who they are telling everyone that gia is vigos mafia daughter. Ya with me? She is quite the character and is a narcissist and a gold medal biatch 👀 her father tells nova that she needs to marry this horrible underboss (I think?) named aldo. Aldo likes to rape and beat on girls and is also into human trafficking. Wonderful husband material. Nova tries to think of someone who she could get married to instead and she thinks of the second son of another mafia clan/group/ninja turtles named vice. He's perfect since he would never be interested in her due to the fact that he's gay.....but thats just what the rumor is 😂😂😂😂😏 she visits him in jail and he tells her no.
They do get married and vice makes sure the dad is conked out during the marriage so that gia doesn't get switched out for nova at the last minute (which was what vigo wanted) and gia marries aldo.
(I'm writing all this down so I remember what the book was about since I always forget and this book had a lot going on!)
Towards the end, vice tells nova what exactly happened that day when her family was slaughtered. His father killed vigos son. His father also somehow saw the daughter that Vigo had with his wife since vigo raped his wife. Vigo (novas dad) didn't know that she was pregnant from the rape and had a daughter. Vigo had all the men who killed vices mom and his sister killed. Ya following so far?! Vice went to the house, watched novas mom fvcking her side piece and he kills novas mom. Dano was supposed to go kill nova but I think vice gets there before And sees how she looks like his sister. he tells her to run and puts his sisters necklace on her (and he has the other one with a N on it for his sisters name natalia).
Ok whew! So he's telling her these truths and she gets taken by aldo to a warehouse. He's about to rape her, but she kills him and then his shoots her and she lost all memory from the past two years. And what vice told her about who killed who and who saved who and who was who's daughter. She loses all memory from the past two years. POOF. Yo vice. You might want to repeat all the shit you said to remind her why she should hate you bro. Not cool. 😐😐😐😐😐😐😐🙈😬😬😬😬😬😩😐😐😐😐😐😐😐😐😐😐😐

I dunno.....I just felt like....the love wasn't there? In the beginning, he kept getting turned on when she was scared of him, but then it would say he would never hurt her? That was so discombobulating to me. That scene where he's showing all the mafia talking heads the video of them fvxking on their wedding night to make sure they knew they were married and consummated their marriage? And she had no way to consent to them seeing that was just ew. Thats such a violation of trust and privacy and after, she didnt seem that upset about it since he just fcvks her? (I think this is when he fcvks her in front of all of his men?) That scene where he's making all his underlings watch him eff her was just....weird? But she was super cool with it afterwards!!!! Like, not awkward cool but just yeah! Cool! And vice is like, they can watch us fuck live and in person but they can never touch you.....but I'm cool with them jacking off to your wet, gushing cunt. 😐😐😐😐😐😐 he doesn't want people to touch her or even speak to her but they can see her naked and getting fvxked. Make....it....make.....sense......

А я то не хотіла її читати, але словами не передати як вона мені зайшла 🙂
Та вони неадекватні але як же цікаво за цим спостерігати. Не знаю як іншим але мені все сподобалось, було крінжово, смішно і навіть деколи мило.
Бісило напевно тільки оце шо жінка це для них мʼясо, оці борделі і оце все.
Вейс та він неадекватний, але він мене дуже навіть смішив, цікаво було читати шо ж він далі втне.
Нова трохи розчарувала, я очікувала більшого опору, але їй все подобалось, тільки деколи давала відсіч.
Кінець який такий скомканий, і до чого та амнезія взагалі була. Але рада що всі получили по заслугах 😈

Just wow! The writing in Vices and Vows is fantastic with a great storyline that was original and unique. It opens with a heart pounding scene that will grip you tight and not let you go until the very last page is read. The story was definitely a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride with some great twists. I ended up reading it in one sitting, it's just that good.
I can't stress enough how much I loved these characters. I mean, I love a morally ambiguous hero, but these gray heroines I've read recently have been blowing me away and Nova embodies the best of them. She's kick ass, forges her own destiny, and doesn't take crap from anyone, including the hero. The best is Vice's reaction to her. His surprise at his feelings. His lifting her up. But at the same time, unequivocally being willing to manipulate any circumstance to get what he wants from her, 🚩🚩🤣. Definitely going in my faves of 2024 pile!
Bring on more bad-ass, morally gray heroines, please!

I thought this was going to be a 5 star read. It was all going well until around 80%. I cannot believe the things he did. How was that just brushed over??? How did she go from not taking anyones shit to letting him walking all over her??. I'm so pissed. That ending was AWFUL too.

Головні герої, Вайс та Нова - просто неймовірна пара😍 Обидвоє - сильні, розумні і абсолютно непередбачувані. А яка між ними хімія, мммм. І так, о так, реально багато гарячого спайсі🔥🔥
Проте, питання до автора є і не одне...
Як так, що Вайс лише за один необережний погляд на Нову - жорстоко вбиває, а вже за мить він демонструє її голу всім своїм людям, донам та ще бозна кому...
Як так, що Нова гостро ставить питання взаємної довіри і підкреслює, що принципово не терпітиме брехні. І що далі? Вона тут же легко пробачає Вайсу все, що він творить...
Може я даремно шукаю тут логіку, але мені хотілося б хоч якоїсь відповідності в поведінці головних героїв.
Також, нажаль, кінцівка книги мене просто розчарувала. Істерика Нови мені взагалі не зрозуміла. Вона сама перестріляла пів сім'ї Вайса, а от те, що він зробив, то все, кінець, як він міг...🤯 Ну ОК, я очікувала, що Вайс, нарешті, хоч раз щиро попросить пробачення і буде все норм. Але я точно не очікувала втрати пам'яті... Та за що??? Нова точно не заслуговує на таку розправу над її персонажем.

Дуже драматично, дуже скажено, насичено подіями та сюжетними поворотами
Книга точно відповідає дарк роману. При чому головні герої, як на мене, обидва антигерої та морально сірі.
У цій історії показали справжнього психопата Вайса в усіх аспектах його життя. І Нова, яка наче і має моральний компас, і має характер, але все ж не менш скажена, ніж він. Скажу одне, вони варті один одного.
Не чекайте тут історії кохання в класичному розумінні. Тут скоріш одержимість та потреба володіння. Усе на краю сумнівної згоди. Але, як казав Вайс, якби тобі не подобалось, ти б боролась. Тож, Нові цілком зайшов стиль її чоловіка😅.
Spicy тут дуже гаряче, і моментами дійсно на межі. Але 🥵🫠🌶
Фінал авторка влаштувала в стилі "Ромео і Джульєтти" 🤦♀️. І я розумію, що треба було якось їх помирити, тож втрата пам'яті - це завжди вихід🌚.
Я прочитала нормально, бо дійсно було видно, що цей світ влаштовує обох. Але в цій книжці точно треба ознайомтесь і з анотацією, і з тригерами.

хоча я не фанат мафії в книжках, але тут вона досить лайтова.
у мене було постійне враження, що авторка кудись поспішає, ніби біжить марафон, намагаючись втиснути сюжет в одну книгу, хоча насправді, одної цілком достатньо.
досить цікаві головні персонажі. Нова мені подобалась до моменту, поки не почала прогинатися під Вайса. спочатку вона горою стоїть за себе у світі чоловіків, а тут різко тече від одного з самих неадекватних з них. відчуття, ніби вона зрадила саму себе.
і кінцівка з втратою памʼяті — це ніби якийсь трюк, щоб не розвивати сюжет після їхнього останнього конфлікту. цей момент мене прям розчарував, я б краще обрала іншу, більш логічнішу кінцівку.
p.s. мені загалом не дуже імпонує стиль письма Кендіс. вона викликає в мене враження, що мені все розжовують, як маленькій дитині, до дрібничок. це взагалі не моє. спочатку таке враження склалося після серії про мотоклуб, але після цієї книги зрозуміло, що вона так пише завжди.

It was a 4+ star book until the very end, which I absolutely hated. That's not an HEA by my standards and I felt like the entire book leading to it was pointless. All my emotional connection was gone. It was so well done and well written until that point, I'm so disappointed.

З самого прологу та 1ї глави в мене бомбило тааааак, що я хотіла дропнути цю книжку, навіть не розпочавши історію їх так званого кохання.. 🫠
З позитивного - авторка добре пише.. читається швидко, легко та без особливих просідань 👌
Накрутила, нахуєвертила таких поворотів та доріжок, що тільки встигай за всіма перепетіями) 😆
Вбити людину - та без проблем, це ж мафія.. перерізати горло - запросто, вистрілити в голову і піти далі - легко 🤣 Ну така вже фантастика, йо-майо..
Риси ЖГГ авторка переписувала рази 3.. то вона мила і розуміюча, то вона мстива і беспринципна.. то вона просто неадекватна і жорстка 😑
Ну до ЧГГ претензій немає - з ним все було ясно з 1ї сторінки, просто класичний мудак в усьому) 🤷♀️
В їх кохання я не повірила.. Просто одержимі неадеквати, які люблять потрахатися, але авторка навіть цієї пристрасті та спайсі не змогла описати гаряче та цікаво.. просто читаєш чисто як факт - о, знову секс.. але не відчуєш нічого ні щодо сцени, ні щодо них.. 🫣
Коротше кажучи, дуже середнячкова історія.. Краще б вони в фіналі сконали обидва 😆😆😆 і ця книжка - одна з тих, які я забуду через 1-2 наступні 😎 я вже наприкінці половини не пам'ятала)

Nova iğrenç ötesi Sayko biriyle evlendirileceğini anlayınca çivi çiviyi söker mantığıyla kendini Vice' ın kollarında buluyor, Vice da yılllardır cezaevinde ama kadar umurunda değil ki dünya peheyy..
Çiftimiz trajikomik şekilde aile bağlarını buluyorlar, en sonda Romeo&Juliet' e bağlaması da hoş oldu.
3 puanla uğurluyoruz.

3.5 ⭐️Початок інтригуючий, люблю оцю тему з прихованою особистістю і таємниці, сюжет розкручується цікаво, Нова - крута 🥰. Вайс, відбитий на всю голову, але має хоч якісь запобіжники, ну такі, на мінімалці. Спайсі сцени, от якось не моє, чи реготати чи стругати, нікого не хочу образити, але не мій це був напій🙈. Завершення, от таке відчуття, що у автора дедлайн горів і вона така, ну загальна ідея була така, зара швиденько допишу. Ну може так і було задумано. Загалом було цікаво.

I loved both mc's and it was almost a five star book for me most of the book. The fmc was badass and strong but still vulnerable. It's a rarity in darker romances.
But the author did her so dirty towards the end. It was disappointing.

It took too long for the hero and heroine to meet. Usually, this author has them meet earlier. Around pg 50 we get the hero’s first POV chapter and 50 pages is a long time nowadays! 🤣
But it also was intriguing. I liked the premise of the heroine who was the bodyguard of the mafia don’s surviving heir and only daughter.
I have to DNF this because it feels like the author didn’t care about developing the romance, but wanted to focus on the mafia plot. The hero is intrigued by the heroine but after an assassination attempt, he is into her, wants her to be his wife, and never wants to let her go. He is dirty in the bedroom but he’s not abusive to her. The heroine is a little cooler, detached, but she also feels attracted to him and safe.
You basically know they have each other’s backs, they are a unit, but it’s boring because so far, no obstacles that are a real danger to their HEA, no subterfuge or miscommunication, and they both seem comfortable reading each other… no I don’t care how they end up securing their mafia kingdom or what happens to the villains.

Instead of making the MMC grovel and own up to his lies the author has the FMC shot in the head which is convenient because she loses her memory and then the book ends shortly after that. I can’t make this up 😭😭

Candice Wright is an expert with characterization and setting the tone in her books with well placed humor that doesn't feel juvenile. Nova in the hands of a lesser author would feel so tripe, annoying, try-hard "VERY VERY BADA$$ to ever BADA$$" gloss that would ruin the story and Vice would be a "Smirky alphah0le of boringness".
“Nova isn’t like the women you’re used to, Miles. If demons seek her out in her dreams tonight, she’ll slay them herself. And I’ll be back before morning to make sure she’s good.
👏🏾 Instead, we get Nova. She has strength and vulnerabilities that make sense. She's smart and operates keenly in the world she inhibits.
“And now she’s mine, and I won’t let anyone take her from me.”
👏🏾What Wright does well are bad guys who legitimately feel like bad guys with their own set of code. She does this without feeling like a bait and switch or blob of goody good shoes morality.

OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS. I seriously was feeling two things at the same time -
1. I needed time to process this Wild fire that took me on an unforgettable and deliciously dark ride &
2. I freaking want more, much more of Vice and Nova as they have made an unknown addiction grow in me for wanting to have more of them.
I'M SERIOUSLY OBSESSED OVER THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW. LIKE OB-FREAKING-SESSED.
Ahhh... For real, I can't believe the madness and the chaos and the plethora of secrets and so many freaking twists left and right, didn't even make me realise when we were at the last page.
I'm so feeling a major Book Hangover coming. But then what can one do, except reread your favourite book all over again.😉
So the story goes that Nova Romano, is the main bodyguard to the Don's daughter. She's an exception in the Mafia world as she's a trained fighter which is not only unheard of but also not allowed in her world.
Gia, the Don's daughter is an absolute bayach and an insufferable spoiled brat, but Nova keeps her head down and does her job while also showing the Don's daughter her place by being strict to her where needed.
I seriously admired Nova as a person right from the start. Just the way she carries herself and doesn't let other people affect her or care for their opinions, was truly admirable.
When a blasting secret smacks Nova in the face and she's left unprepared to find her entire world upside down, she doesn't know what to do.
Especially now that the burden of this secret revealed means she'll have to be tied to a Wild Animal that is the worst and she has no plans to even be near him.
What do you do when you want to escape such a fate where you'll have to tie yourself to an animalistic monster? You either surrender and accept your fate or give up. But that's not Nova for you.
What Nova decides is she would rather bring on a bigger and scarier monster to ward off this animal.
She plans a devious setting such that she'll be the one to call the checkmate at the end.
Oh my.... When I say you won't be able to put down this book at all, please take my word because each chapter and plot twist builds on one another in such a way that there's not a single moment where we don't have something happening and it will make you keep on turning the pages like crazy, just like I was turning them like crazy.
This story is so magnificently woven in a web of dark secrets and mysterious pasts and devious plans and oodles and oodles of hot spicy times that are so intense and passion-filled that you seriously wouldn't have a single moment to catch your breath from all that is happening.
The way Nova plans everything from her visit to Vice in the prison till the biggest reveal was so much fun.
And as a reader I felt that buildup, that anticipation of knowing the plan and wanting to see it all come to fruition.
What Nova didn't expect was Vice to be so much more of what she bargained for.
When she visited Vice Moretti in the prison, the Unhinged son of the Moretti family, she thought she was asking for help of one devil to get rid of another because for all his flaws, Vice was never known to touch children or women at all.

The writing is out of the world spectacular as it keeps you glued to the pages and each scene between Vice and Nova had me gasping and melting and at times wide-eyed for the things they did, but mostly I was all over the place because I felt that fiery passion oozing out in each moment and I TRULY FELT ALL THAT FIRE AND WANTED MORE.
From their crazy wedding night to all their🔥 times together, you are in for a treat as the spice level is insanely hot in this one.

Ahhh.... After all the outrageously delicious and mind-spinning twists that were happening comes that shocking ending. I was, for a minute, shocked and numb beyond belief and then that twist.... Wow.
Like I said this one is so dayum delectable and unputdownable that you will have the ride of your life.

And as a reader I felt that buildup, that anticipation of knowing the plan and wanting to see it all come to fruition.
What Nova didn't expect was Vice to be so much more of what she bargained for.

Vice is happy to have his freedom back after serving a decade in prison but what he didn't expect was the betrayal and plot twists that were waiting for him and I feel the biggest of them all was finding this stunner who was equally dangerous as she was attractive, helping him in a way that left him shocked.

The writing is out of the world spectacular as it keeps you glued to the pages and each scene between Vice and Nova had me gasping and melting and at times wide-eyed for the things they did, but mostly I was all over the place because I felt that fiery passion oozing out in each moment and I TRULY FELT ALL THAT FIRE AND WANTED MORE.
From their crazy wedding night to all their🔥 times together, you are in for a treat as the spice level is insanely hot in this one.

Vice is unapologetically insane where his wife is concerned and doesn't think twice of taking out the person who dared to touch his wife and my goodness, Nova is the same. She won't think twice to hurt anyone who dares come close to her husband.
Ahhh.... After all the outrageously delicious and mind-spinning twists that were happening comes that shocking ending. I was, for a minute, shocked and numb beyond belief and then that twist.... Wow.
Like I said this one is so dayum delectable and unputdownable that you will have the ride of your life.

Trebuie sa recunosc, m-a intrigat plotul acestei cărți, ea bodyguard, el pușcăriaș în momentul când s-au cunoscut.
Pana după jumătatea cărții, eram decisă ca e de 5☆. Ce s-a schimbat, totuși? Nova a devenit incet-incet aproape (rețineți cuvantul "aproape" face o mare diferență 🙃) la fel de unhinged ca Vice și acțiunile lor m-au cam făcut sa-mi dau (si eu, nu doar personajele 😅) ochii peste cap,de cele mai multe ori (e doar părerea mea).
Din pct meu de vedere, (NU CREDEAM CA O SA SPUN VREODATA ASTA 😅) scenele smexy au fost prea multe și parca fara rost -am priceput deja pana la jumătatea cărții ca omul a dus lipsa de contact cu o femeie, timp de 10 ani, cât a fost închis,nu trebuia sa recupereze aia 10 ani intr-o săptămână, două,o luna 😅.
Una peste alta, finalul a fost prea greu de crezut, nu stiu😐totuși HAPPY-END GARANTAT!🦋

I seem to be on a reading streak with this author and I will say that I have enjoyed every book that I have read by her, even going to an all out 5 stars for the last book by her I read, and that's a hard score to get from me. I also thought at the beginning of this book it was going to be a 5 star read as well. It has a pretty original plot and story line, it has a badass heroine and a crazy, possessive hero, and it had all the other fixings you need for a great read. But....
The story starts when Nova was 4 years old and Vice was 14. Then jumps 20 years to the future, where we find that Nova was switched with Gia, Vigo's consigliere's daughter, after a hit was put out on the family and her mother and brother were murdered. Vigo is her biological father and current don of the Fiore family. She wound up being Gia's body guard, trained in weapons and combat, and quite the badass, as Alessio's daughter. So this was my first issue with the story line. I could see that switch happening with infants up to maybe 1 or 2, but 4 year old best friend girls suddently have different fathers without question? Yeah, that was pushing it a bit...but let's move on.
Nova was beautiful, resilient, caring. She had to fight as a woman to be respected as a body guard in the male dominated mafia world. She was quick to action, quick to temper, and quick with witty responses. She helped save some of the prostitutes working for the family cascino when things got rough for them, so also very caring. And I did like her character a lot.
Vice was in prison for 10 years, was supposedly gay, unhinged and crazy with a capital "C", and it also turns out very possessive of his woman. At first he was not interested in taking the lead as don of his family. I also liked his character a lot as well.
I liked the way that the two met, and I also liked the speed, the bumps, the back and forth, as their relationship was developing through the story. But here is my second issue with the story line. There was a scene with Vice and Nova in front of his closest men that I just couldn't wrap my head around. If he really was as crazy possessive as he kept acting like, that scene just didn't make sense.
So good things and bad things throughout the book, and even with those I still would have given this book 5 stars. But the ending of the book blew it for me. It's the author's story to tell, but as a reader I just felt like a shoe had dropped.
I did enjoy the story, it was fun, it was interesting, it had a few pretty good twists. So I will give it 3 stars, and I would also recommend it, but with a caveat for the ending.

3.5 stars - this was a 5 stars but the last 30% made me take off 1.5 stars.
plot was super interesting at first because the fmc was a bad bitxh & a security guard. then there’s all these plot twists which are super interesting and we really come to like the fmc.
the smut was also hot bc there was a lot of cockwarming and stuff, but the mmc was just so hateble imo
i understand mmc is supposed to be a villain and all, but showing all the rest of the heads (including aldo) the video of him talking fmc’s virginity and showing them the blanket w her blood on it, was not okay at all.
fmc was right there, publicly being humiliated in front of people she tried to gain respect from for yonks, and mmc didn’t feel bad at all?? and didn’t even apologise yet made her feel bad ??
also, call me crazy but he didn’t seem that possessive?? he was all talk but let his men jerk off to fmc?? i understand showing ppl that your woman is your woman, but usually an mmc will threaten any man if they seem aroused at all. mmc got off on it though, and wouldn’t even let fmc cum until all of his men did??
then when she was mad ab him publicly humiliating her, he raped her essentially to punish her? and then made her apologise at the end? and never apologised himself?? he completely did a 180° in terms of how likeable he was. i initially liked him and thought his crazy was cool, but it honestly seemed like he didn’t even care for the fmc and was just using her for revenge.
it also rubbed be the wrong way how the fmc kept telling the mmc she loved him, and he kept replying back with “i know”, or a kiss :’/ he didn’t even say “i love you” to her until she found out that he was the one who killed her mum (which he never told her about), which he followed by cuffing her to the bed and leaving her while she cried so much she vomited ……
idk man i just hate this hero too much to give this 5 stars.

The book started off good. I was excited about Vice and Nova meeting for the first time and the characters all seemed to be interesting. But that’s it. It was all downhill from there 😒. Nova came across as a pick-me and a I’m-not-like-other-girls girl.
I can’t with this hypocritical book.
It just pisses me off.
Nothing makes sense and there’s literally a freaking ‘main-character halo’ that affects everyone’s view of the situations. It’s ok if the main character does it but if someone who is deemed the villain or ‘bad-guy’ does it, it’s game over for them 😒.

Okay I loved the plot and the whole story all together but idk it just wasn’t really sticking to me. I was so close to DNF the book but I really wanted to see how the end would play out and I’m kinda disappointed.

Книжка мені сподобалася , сюжет який тримав мене постійно в напрузі. Я скажу для мене в них хворе кохання де зійшлися два божевільних. Вчинки Вайса це просто треш , він стільки бляха гімна на робив , так само їх батьки це просто піз...... Кінцівка мене вбила , мені так шкода що з Новою це сталося я хотіла трохи іншої кінцівки.

How do i explain the way this story held me hostage? Made me delirious and giddy and murd€rous and everything in between??
So i'm just gonna apologize in advance for the following rumbling 🤷♀️😅😂
First thing first: Nove is a freaking badass and i LOVE HER. She know the in and outs of the world she grew up in, and she is able to handle almost everything. And despite being surrounded by violence all the time she never forgot her humanity. She is freaking amazing.
I would have loved to read more about what she was able to do tho. I would have loved for Vice to let his Queen rule with him.
And what can we say about Vice?!
The man is batshit crazy. He is raw, unhinged, cold blooded and so damn intense. I would have slapp€d him once or twice for sure 😒
but what he felt for Nova, his need for her, his possessiveness made me swoon.
The scene in the tattoo shop....
