The book has 2 very different main characters, but you’ll find yourself relating to both of them throughout the story, and discover how very opposite paths can both lead to victory in their own way. Jack is a witty rebel, and Pepper is timid and quiet. Phoenixheart masterfully navigates the internal struggle of two characters trying to make sense of higher beliefs and what their purpose is while fighting different enemies. It brings up intriguing questions that readers themselves might reflect on, but does so without being “in your face” or overbearing. Can’t wait for book 2!

A Refreshing Read with great themes
With its unique world building and cast of characters, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. The wit and sarcasm of Jack was a nice contrast to Pepper’s timidity and to see both of them grow in vastly different, yet similar, capacities was a delightful experience.
With themes of family, honor, and friendship in this spice free novel, I would recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy.

A great start to a new series
Though this is a lengthy book, it never felt long while I was reading. Engaging characters, mysteries with satisfying reveals and twists, while offering, at times, philosophical waxings without feeling preachy. A great start. Highly recommend.

Very interesting book really enjoyed reading it. Really liked characters and world-building.
