Rate this book
With an accounting degree that's getting her nowhere, Chloe Malinski spends her nights waitressing and her days housesitting in a neighborhood that's infinitely beyond her reach or comfort zone. But she knows all too well that no one wants a pauper in their mansion, so she's gotten good – maybe a little too good – at faking it 'til she makes it.

With more baggage than any airline, Lawton Rastor made his money through prizefighting – and not the kind with padded gloves and some bowtie-wearing referee. He made it through the gritty, back alley kind where sweaty money changed hands over beer and bimbos.

She's a poor girl from Hamtramck. He's a billionaire bad boy from Detroit. They should've never crossed paths. But when they do, thanks to Chloe's latest housesitting gig, the collision of sparks, secrets, and misunderstandings leaves both of them yearning to belong exactly where they shouldn't – with each other.

A full-length novel, this new adult contemporary romance is book one of the two-part Unbelonging series. It features mature content, sexual situations, and adult language. It's not advised for under-age readers.

UNBELIEVABLE!

80% of the story I had a fuckin' feeling the ending was not gonna happen in this book!

Around 95% I was praying... praying that those feelings were not true..

100% I.JUST.FUCKIN.DIED!

I should have check the reviews before reading this book!

To be honest, I didn't know what to expect when I started this book. Really, I had no expectation what-so-ever! The story started off quite unique and interesting!

The heroine is likeable, she's not a doormat or annoying. She's pretty much in between- fiesty but didn't come off as a strong person. (Am I making any sense? lol.)

The hero- Lawton is hot, rich, famous and mysterious! I was actually seething the entire book coz it was frustrated as shit that I couldn't pin-point what was his deal. I kept wondering what was going on in his head.

The plot was okay... They had a big misunderstanding but I have no idea where the story was going. I was kinda hoping there will be some kind of big revelation but all I got was a fuckin' cliffy! *sigh!*

Overall I seriously have nothing special to write off but it's a good read! It kept me interested the entire time so I'm giving this a 3.5 STARS!

I'm off to stalk this author! Sabrina Stark...

I definitely wanting to read the next book. Unbelonging is a modern takes on Cinderella. Miss Stark adding a smart twist by putting Chloe as a modern day Cinderella. A young woman who struggle to survive and keep her dignity. It is a fine line.

I do love how Chloe have back bone. In desperate time, she still manages not to crumble to the ground. I admire her knowing how hard life it is to be at the bottom of the society. She has her wit. In a way listening to Chloe struggle reminds me how unfair life is. Everyday is a battle ground.

Overall a wonderful book. I hope the second book will be as good as Unbelonging.

Wanna know whats worse than a cliffhanger? How about a FREAKING TO BE CONTINUED ending in a book that was freaking awesome and now I have to wait!! *bawling ugly tears*

But on a good note, the book was really great and I couldn't put it down! :)

2 1/2 star rating.

Way too much contrived angst in this book. These MC's kept even the small things secret from each other. How can they develop a relationship with one another if they can't even be honest with each other about who they are, what they do? Because of that the connection between the two MC's came off as fake and unbelievable.

The first half of the book moved at a snails pace, and when the hero and heroine finally got together, the author fast forwarded weeks ahead into their relationship.

Cliffhanger ending didn't really bother me because by the time I got to the end I didn't really care how things turned out.

I think that this author has potential and I would read her work again in the future, but this one didn't work for me.

What in the absolute trash did I just read? I must have missed the memo, because I have read some really great books by this author. They had witty banter and a good plotline. I did read Jaked and there was some trashy other woman drama at the very beginning, but I thought it was the exception. I guess not. This was awful. The “hero” meets the heroine and after a couple of days of passing her by while she is walking her charges dog, he starts joining her. Days of flirting etc have went by and he has also asked her out (her other part time job hasn’t let her have a day off to be able to go out with him yet though). They seem to really be building something. She gets locked out of her house and climbs the wall into his property. He sends his party guest home, is really sweet to her, explains how she’s all he has thought about since he met her etc. They make out and it would have possibly have led to more, but his brother interrupts. She overhears them talking and is uncomfortable, so she decides to leave. The next day he corners her and wants to know what he did wrong to make her leave: they talk for a minute and the subject of a girl who she has seen him with comes up (one of the things that she overheard). This same girl was at her other job etc bragging about going to his house right before the party that she interrupted. She asks about him sleeping with that girl. He starts to make excuses about her being different etc. so she point blank asks if he had slept with her that night (as in right before she came over). After some of the typical BS that cheaters say he admits yes, and he also admits that her friend was there too. It’s a thing they regularly do. He was so desperate for them that he sacred them both in the middle of his own party with 50 ish people there. He starts in a tangent about how he isn’t the one using them they are using hmm and it’s not the same with her clay blah blah she is special. So yes ladies and gentlemen the entire time they are building their story, dating, seeing each other every day and oh can’t forget after he lied to her and said he has had only thought of her since they met... He has been having regular threesomes with at minimum those two skanky girls and who else knows who. She knew enough to ask about them after she had witnessed firsthand being disgusting at her workplace with them being all over each other and other men right before they screwed him again. All of this is literally right before he was making out with her. He doesn’t think that he has done anything wrong all and downright defends his choices, even acting AFFRONTED that she doesn’t believe his sincerity when he says she is different. What a freaking piece of crap! Say what you will about it not technically being cheating because they hadn’t said they were exclusive, but the idea that ANYONE could think that someone doesn’t have the right to know that he just had a threesome with two women moments before before he was kissing all over her (and would have went farther with her if not interrupted) blows my freaking mind. There wasn’t even time for him to brush his teeth. The heroine might as well have just walked over to that nasty non picky excuse for a woman and put her mouth in her vagina when she had seen her at her job a couple of hours before. Lord knows she was exposed to everything as if she had. I can’t believe that this author is the same as some of these other stories I have read in the past few months. This looks like it was one of her earlier works so hopefully she has matured past that. I have loved so many of her books that I will read new stuff but I’m done venturing into earlier stuff for sure. This wasn’t just riske it was gross, and honestly just so cliche. The excuses that he gives her read like they came right of of the cheaters handbook. It wasn’t even creative and she is over it and in his pants pretty much immediately. I just want to vomit right now. Oh and if course she hasn’t so much as looked at another guy since she met him. Just WTAF?!?!

Not really sure what to even say about this one. Kinda dumb...didn't hate the heroine or hero, but didn't really like them either. Waaay too much secret-keeping and of course this leads to the big "misunderstanding" and total over-reaction at the end. Oh, and then we get a big fat cliffhanger-jeez. I may actually have to read the second one just to find out what happens.

Damn, I liked this one! It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but...come on...we all know they're going to end up together.

And I liked a heroine in a New Adult novel! I never thought this day would come! She stood up for herself! THE HERO TREATED HER BADLY AND THEN WAS ALL "BABY, I'M SO SORRY BABY, IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN BABY" AND CHLOE WAS LIKE "YEAH, NO, BUH-BYE".

If asked if I would recommend this book, I'd have to say No!!!

The story hooks you from the start, like a cliffhanger. If you want to know how it plays out, you have to keep reading. That's the only reason I kept going. Book was slow. I don't like either character. Both are hiding things and falling in love knowing there are secrets. Book starts to get good around the 70% point. This is the third book I've read recently where it was the same way!! What is up with that????

Then the end is pitiful. That isn't a cliffhanger. You know how that will turn out!!

Will only read next book if I could get it for free.

It is just ok. Chloe was a bit frustrating and, with no perspective from Lawton, I could not identify with him at all. No idea what he was playing, or not. Chloe was not mysterious. She was evasive and, at times, stupid. The non ending was almost worse than a cliffhanger.

Gosh, darnit, this is why I don't like series books. I just finished and can't stand that I'm not able to just keep reading. And by the time the next book is out, I probably won't remember it, not with this keen excitement.

That said, I loved this book. I loved the heroine's strength, wit, and spunk. I loved the Hero, too. Fuck, but Lawton was HOT and kind--a combination you don't find very often. Especially, if you toss in filthy rich. Also, Chloe's backstory was pitiable without being too traumatizing. She still had her brother, Josh, and her grandmother to love. And the thing she did month after month for her grandmother was both hysterical and OMG CRAZY. Chloe was just such a cool character. I'd love to have her as a friend. My biggest issue with her is that she just didn't speak up. I wanted her to just spit it out! And it's not like Lawton didn't have his own secrets!

Some thoughts:

--What was up with Lawton dressed head to toe in black that one night? Was he going to spy on her? Or something more nefarious?
--Where did he go when he ditched her at the club?
--I'd love to have some of Lawton's POV? He's a great character.
--I disliked Bishop, at first, but I kinda grew to like him by the end. Maybe Bishop can hook up with Erika, lol?
--I sort of think there should have been some check-ins with the Parkers?
--I wished there had been one more steamy scene between the MCs first time sleeping together and "two weeks later". Just me being naughty & selfish.
--it could use another round of editing. There are few enough errors that the ones I noticed stood out as sloppy.

Stars: 3.85 to 4
Hero: Fighter/Billionaire
Heroine: Poor as poop
Steam: Spicy, but needs more IMO
Series: Yes, dammit
Recommend: YES
Reread: Yes

This is another re-read. I actually remembered the opening of this book so well that I thought the book was better than the re-read proved.

I really liked it, but most of the drama between the H/h was just the h being stupid. I hate that. I get her "reasons" but they were still kind of stupid. Sorry. No...Not sorry. She could have explained it to him once they were sleeping together. But her reason to continue keeping him in the dark, that the bros might be thieves...Jesus. Utterly fucking ridiculous. I was just floored.

Then there was the sex.

Rigid Tool.

Just...wtf? Never again.

It was such a gag reflex of a turnoff I skipped most of the sex scenes. I know, right? What's the fucking point if I'm skipping THAT?!?

I just so wanted to like this better. In fact, I wanted to like this one so much on the re-read, I'm wondering if that's why I'm so down on this? I had 5 star eyes for a 4 star read and am giving it a 3 because it wasn't a 5.

Is that fucked up?

OF COURSE THIS WOULD HAVE A FREAKING CLIFF HANGER!!!!!!

Nooooooo!!!!!!!
Out of this whole book, I did. NOT. expect that! Dang it!!!

However, this book was hot and sassy and kinda super secretive, like seriously all of your questions WILL NOT be answered in this book... Go figure.

This chick is something. She is amazing, a caretaker, awesome... She completely blew me away. Takes care of her family while trying to take care of herself. What a freaking hero! Wow.

But golly I loved it!!!! Cannot stop dreaming and can't wait until the "Rebelonging" comes out!!!

Audio Review

I listen to a lot of books. I have been listening to audiobooks for years and I saw the reviews that some people did not think the narrator did a great job, but I think she did a great job for a NA story.
First, she sounded like a 23 year old woman, which Chloe is. Many of these narrators that read NA stories sound like they are in their 30s/40s, not in their 20s.
Second, the narrator did the male voices very well. Some of them may have sounded the same, but when there was a scene with more than one male voice, like Lawton and Bishop, the narrator did a good job separating them.
There were scenes were the narrator sounded like she was squealing, but it was not irritating. I have a list of narrators that I avoid but Erin Mallon will not be one of them.

What I did NOT like about this book is that the author put the PROLOGUE in the first chapter. I rarely if ever read the prologue in the book. I feel that at times it gives away too much. Like in this case, it gave away what happens almost towards the end of the book. So I was anticipating that scene and honestly after 50% could not focus, just pictured that. So I noticed myself fast forwarding 30 seconds here and there until that scene.
Note to author: If the scene is a PROLOGUE, which in this case it was, mark it as such and NOT as chapter one.

I love the scene when Lawton and Chloe met. I love the scenes with them walking Chucky. I thought some of the misunderstanding scenes at 60% were getting to be a bit much.
I did love the drama with Brittany and Amber. I could just pictures those two.

Chloe is supposed to be a street smart girl after her experience with her mother and step-mother yet she makes the dumbest decisions.

Lawton is a bad boy and a fighter. He is very open about his experiences. Hearing some of it was not easy.

I bought this book when it was a sale two books for one credit. I never heard of this book before, I never heard of the author, but I was glad I took a chance. Off to read the sequel.

HAS POTENTIAL

I believe this is the authors debut novel. On the whole she has real potential. Her characters are well drawn even if Chloe the heroine was infuriating at times. Lawson the hero is a good guy with the usual rough edges. When Chloe is hired to house sit for a couple in an upmarket neighbourhood she takes the responsibility seriously, watering the plants and looking after the couples dog. Chloe also works as a waitress. Then she meets the next door neighbour Lawson a man who's made his millions by fighting and reality tv.

Their first meeting doesn't go well especially as Chloe manages to upset the two blond bimbos he has in his house, but that's just the start of the disasters that befall Chloe. She has a definite knack for finding trouble, and why she doesn't tell Lawson the truth about herself was difficult to understand. It seems that every time Chloe walks the dog Lawson just happens to be outside. Of course they start to get closer. Chloe might even be falling for Lawson. But then he goes and does something stupid.

There was much to like about this story, the dialogue was very well written. I really enjoyed the interactions between all the characters. The author has a natural feel for humour. The sex scenes in particular the first one, definitely needed more work, the authors descriptions were not quite right for me. There is another book to follow which I will be reading.

I don't dislike this book, but I am disappointed by it. For a freshman release, it has a lot of positives. I do like the characters a lot even though a couple of things bug me.

What bugs me the most is that she's hiding that she's a house sitter from him out of some obligation to be confidential to a client, but the ONLY time we see anything involving the client, she seems a perfectly reasonable, sweet woman who I can't help but feel would not instill such fear into the heroine. We learn so much about Chloe. I love her. She's awesome! And by the end, ... wth is up with that? It bugs me.

I need stronger motivation for her to hide practically EVERYTHING about herself from him. I mean he knows nearly nothing about her. At all. I love her and I can't understand how he can love her if he knows nothing about her and she knows practically nothing about him, but they're in this relationship. That's a problem for me. I want him to love her because she's supporting her grandmother and saving her pride by giving her a fake job. How awesome is she for this? I want to know more about him and wth he and his brother are up to. There were just a lot of threads I felt weren't properly woven.

This author and this story shows promise though. So off to book 2 I go!

house sitter + dog sitter + plant sitter = her.
shirtless + shoeless + hot body = him.
I think the dog played a big role to their love story.

Chloe is a waitress, a college graduate, a dog walker, and a house-sitter. Her dad remarried a horrible woman who dislikes Chloe and her brother Josh. Josh is 13 & Chloe wants him to live with her but is struggling to get an accounting job to be able to get her own place. Right now Chloe is house-sitting and has a place to stay. Right down the street from Lawton.

Lawton is a professional fighter turned millionaire. Girls use him for his money, his body, his reputation and much more. So he is a little untrusting. But something about the girl next door has him chasing after her. Chloe is trying to stay focused on the house-sitting gig. She signed a confidentiality contract stating that she would not divulge any information of her being a house-sitter.

****SPOILER ALERT****
Chloe and Lawton become friends and they cannot deny that they have an attraction to one another. Chloe has a really bad 24 hours starting with seeing Brittany (Lawton's "friend"),quitting her job/getting fired, losing the job she was supposed to start in another week before it began, getting her car window broken, and ending with getting her phone stolen. So she decides screw this and starts drinking. Feeling brave after a few shots and feeling like she has nothing else to lose and feeling like I need to be crazy just once in my life she goes to Lawton's.

Lawton & Chloe don't really know each other that well but they really love spending time together. Chloe figures she can tell him everything after the house-sitting gig is over and then they can talk about their pasts if needed.

Chloe & Lawton seem to be pretty perfect together until Brittany seems to organize a prank that will screw everything up.

Now Lawton is feeling played & thinks that Chloe had a plan all along with using him. He does not believe that she really cares for him. Then reality and truth comes out from Bishop. The one person who always thought that Chloe was playing him. Bishop tells Lawton that it was Brittany all along and now Lawton has screwed up everything with Chloe. He has to fix it but will Chloe let him. The book ends with Lawton telling Chloe that he will fix it between them.

And now I have to wait for Book #2 "Rebelonging".

For Book #2, my expectations are
1. That Lawton can win Chloe's trust back
2. That once Lawton learns who Chloe is and her background that he will not care
3. Chloe will forgive Lawton
4. Lawton will let Chloe in on his past
5. Chloe will find out what lawton and Bishop have planned for their side business
6. Bishop and Chloe will forgive the past and become friends

I Love when I am looking on amazon and find a book that stands out to me, it might now have very many reviews yet, and the author is brand new, you find them on Facebook as well, because you have to know what's coming next from them. This is what I have found with new author Sabrina Stark. She has taken us on a journey that won't be forgotten anytime soon.

Chloe, is trying very hard to get a job in her field of accounting, she is working as a waitress, takes a job watching a dog, watching a house, and feeding the plants at there scheduled feeding times, yes that's right PLANTS. who does things like that... OH yeah the Rich people she is house sitting for. Chloe knows that she can't compete with the women that are walking in and out of Lawton's house, but she also doesn't try. but thanks to Chucky a bad boy Yorkie she gets to know him better then most people. she knows that if she lets him get close to her he will hurt her, but sometimes you can't help who you fall for.

Lawton Rastor is the very picture of Bad boy playboy, he has the looks, he has the money, he has the swag to get anything or anyone that he wants and he wants Chloe. the only problem is he doesn't really get the whole story when it comes to Chloe, between jumping to conclusions, and the info that his brother is feeding him about her he really truly might have lost the one thing he always wanted. He can be himself with Chloe, he doesn't have to be ON all the time, he can watch her make a fool of herself and still laugh at her, and with her. He knows really Nothing about her, he thinks she is the daughter or the mistress of the rich older guy that lives next door. But when things go wrong and he blames her for something that she has nothing to do with, he hurts her, and she is willing to walk away to never have to deal with it again!

I can't wait for the next book of this series, and I really hope that certain characters in the story will get what is coming to her.

This book has been sitting in my library and didn't even know I owned it until my friend asked me about it so I decided to read it after finishing another book.

I REALY enjoyed the book. It had some humor, angst, suspense, giddy moments and a man to swoon over.

Lawton is so me thing else a man whore basically who finds something in Chloe he has never found in anyone else. Chloe wants him but she runs from him. She is a college graduate working as a waitress, house and doggie sitting in the neighborhood that Lawton has moved too. He watches her and of course she notices him,how could you not the man is all kinds of sexy.

I just hated all of the secrets, Chloe never really opened up about herself and nor did Lawton but they hit it off and it was a hot steamy romance. Just add him to my long list of book boyfriends.

The ending was probably the best part, Chloe wasn't the wimpy type girl to go running into Lawtons arms when he done wrong. But he isn't the man to give up either.

Eeekkkk. So excited for the next book,

This book held so much promise. Kept me up till 4 am and then proceeded to thoroughly disappoint!
The basement scene could have been developed better, one minute he was as stubborn as a mule, not listening to her, and then the very next apologizing profusely.
So that was anticlimactic...
I get that it was a misunderstanding but there should have been some more content between his action and realizing his mistake.
I couldn't understand his drastic reaction to cuff her in the basement...seems a bit MUCH! For heavens sake she's just a girl and he was a wrestler!!

Nevertheless the well written and had me reading till the end, so that says alot!

Ok I have to admit, I had a love/hate feeling about this book. First cliffhangers just piss me off. Second the secrets between Chloe and Lawton drove me crazy. Who ever heard of a confidentially to a client house sitting. Third what is between the brothers Lawton and Bishop. They just seem to have a weird kind of relationship.

The books gives more information about Chloe not Lawton. The seem to be perfect together until Brittney (one of Lawton friends) organized a prank that went so wrong. Anyway looks like Lawton screwed up everything between them. Looking forward to the sequel because I do want my HEA between Chloe and Lawton.

Reading next book....

I pulled an all nighter on this duo. As soon as I finished Unbelonging, I downloaded the second book, Rebelonging. Chloe is a well rounded, likeable character with an awesome attitude. She's not an impossibly perfect woman, but a real one, with believable problems. How could anyone not love Chloe? She makes up a job for her grandma so she can "work". Love it! Lawton is well developed as the irresistible bad boy, and I'm proud that Chloe can handle him as well as she does. The tension and angst between Chloe and Lawton pulled the story along like glue. Great books!

Ah. I really can't say I loved it or even liked it. I guess I tolerated it. When Chole snapped the picture of dude naked I did my first eye roll. So typical and overly used. The characters are well developed but the story is really lacking. Chole has no reason to be ashamed of what she is or what she does for a living. That really pissed me off. She should have had the ball to tell him the truth. Hope the next book is better than this one.

"Ok"

My Audible Audiobook Review:

Honestly, I got bored in the very beginning, so it took me like 3 times to listen to this. Once I got past like chapter 10, the story picked up a bit. It was ok.. not a relisten for me... it was just good, nothing grand, and definately not a waste of time. I am glad I finally finshed listening though...

Narration was eh! Could have been better; however, I did like the male voices.

Nice credit... not worth a buy... definately a sale.

Glad this book and the sequel were only $.99. There were parts that I think the author was trying to be funny, but it just wasn't. The idiotic gifts her friend gave her for her birthday? Seriously!?! Totally tacky. Also if she signed a confidentiality agreement for her house sitting gig and can't have Lawton to the house, why in the world can her best friend visit and know she is house sitting?

Lawton the bad boy, I felt sorry for him, lonely and manipulated by Bishop his brother accused. Chloe has her hands were tied literally and metaphorically, unable to divulge her own misery, too proud to ask Lawton for help. Will she forgive Lawton and find their HEA.
