Haunted by the murder of her grandmother and possessed by the need for vengeance, Alix La Rouge has dedicated her life to hunting werewolves. Now her name is whispered with awe and fear by those who know what dangers lurk in the dark.
But when she is assigned to protect a remote village in the mountains of France from a new breed of monster, Alix is thrust into an uneasy alliance with Cyrus, a werewolf created by the grace of the moon to protect mortals. And he is more dangerous–to her life, and to her heart– than any monster she’s ever faced.
Bound to the same mission but divided by centuries of hate and distrust, Alix and Cyrus discover the greatest threat isn’t the strangely altered creatures lurking in the shadows…but the darkness in their hearts.
If they do not forge a new path and learn to trust one another, they’ll fall victim to the legacy of blood and silver. Because this is no fairytale.
And not everyone gets a happily ever after.
Blood and Silver is a heartwrenching, standalone romance full of intrigue, sizzling tension, and a love worth dying for. It is a companion novel to The Gwen St. James Affair.
Nicole has been a soldier, photographer, freelance writer, and artist, but she truly found her home as the author of stories about magical worlds in which ordinary people become heroes through extraordinary circumstances…always with a little romance thrown in.
When she’s not writing fantasy novels or creating fantasy art, Nicole spends time with her husband and three boys, climbing, camping, hiking in the New Mexico wilderness, and daydreaming about chocolate chip cookies.
Nicole's books are absolutely my happy place. I love her books. She's in my top 10 authors and she writes spice better than anyone because she combines it with ANGST. It's like a drug and I will read anything she writes forever and ever. That said, thank you to Nicole for the eARC. This is 100% an honest review and all opinions are my own.

On to the review!
Nicole McKeon's "Blood and Silver" crafts a world where trauma-based prejudices collide with unexpected alliances. This standalone fantasy romance ventures far beyond the boundaries of love and hate. Alix's vehement disdain for werewolves stems from a lifetime of hunting them and her childhood trauma. Forced into an unlikely alliance with Cyrus, a werewolf, she grapples with confronting her ingrained beliefs. As they navigate a dangerous threat looming over several small villages, the friction between them is as palpable as their slowly-formed respect for one another.
McKeon's skillful storytelling delves into the complexities of an enemies-to-lovers relationship, rendering a narrative that intricately explores the journey from enmity to unexpected attraction to more. Alix and Cyrus's evolving relationship is a testament to their personal growth. The depth of emotion and conflict is portrayed vividly, evoking a sense of emotional resonance that cuts to your core. McKeon masterfully infuses the storyline with passion and sensuality that heighten the stakes, drawing readers into a whirlwind of emotions. Spice with feels is the best kind, by far, and McKeon is a PRO at it.
Beyond the passionate romance, McKeon adeptly addresses themes of trauma and mental health, enriching the characters' complexities. The narrative not only explores the intricacies of love but also delves into the struggles and growth of the characters from their trauma, elevating the storytelling wholeheartedly.
"Blood and Silver" serves as a standalone gem, yet it intricately weaves into the larger tapestry of McKeon's Gwen St. James Affair series, providing readers with a multifaceted view of well-crafted characters. I loved seeing past-Gwen through these 'new' characters' eyes. McKeon's prowess in narrative crafting shines through, delivering an enthralling read that seamlessly intertwines passion, danger, and character development. Overall, "Blood and Silver" is a spellbinding story that captivates with its emotional depth, fervent romance, and nuanced character arcs. It serves to showcase McKeon's writing chops.
"The world is full of monsters, you fool. Why do you think you are the only one?”
I adore the 'Gwen St. James Affair' series. I started it in 2023 and it quickly cemented itself as one of my favorite series. Nicole McKeon truly outdid herself with this book. The way she writes is captivating. Her characters pop off the page, they’re complex and heartbreaking. I think it’s amazing that although the characters themselves had been previously introduced in the main series, this book stands on its own and is a phenomenal standalone.
Alix and Cyrus are our main characters and getting both of their POVs was a plus in that you get to experience their respective journeys. One of my favorite things is when you get to see a character from another’s eyes and not just their own. Even though their backstories are heavy and influence their actions throughout the course of the story, it’s woven and explored throughout versus having them confined and/or glossed over quickly. Their dislike and distrust for one another was palpable at the beginning and I loved getting to see mutual respect and then love develop between the two. Their banter was great and I think it’s nice that even once they begin developing feelings for one another, they still have a personality and neither gets constricted into the background and serving as only a love interest to support the other.
The combat scenes were executed nicely and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the author’s take on the classic of 'Red Riding Hood' and I thought the twists were done well. I will say that one of the best scenes (other than their love confession/reconciliation scene - chapter 46 will be carved into my soul for the rest of my life) was Alix’s scene with the priest at the beginning. Reading about her struggles with self-acceptance and self-recrimination and then remembering that scene with the priest (“There is always forgiveness for you”) was a consistent punch to the gut.
One of my favorite quotes: “Who told you,’ he said, his hands braced on either side of her head, ‘that you have less of a right to the life you want than they do? Being mortal does not make them more deserving of happiness.”
All in all, this was a masterpiece and I cannot thank the author enough for the advanced reader copy!
How dare you, Nicole McKeon to play with my heart in such way? OMG. My heart got ripped out and shattered and then put back together. ❤️ And who really is Madame Sophie?? I also loved you know who. :) If you decide to read this amazing book, you should know that this book also had some spice, so be aware of that. I want to give Blood & Silver 10 stars out of five. It was soo amazing! Best red riding hood retelling and so wonderfully written. Even their responses to trauma was excellently portrayed. There is some surprises along the way along with human insecurities in themselves but also from bystanders mistrust. I highly recommend the whole gaslight series, starting with Vanished. These need to be read before Blood & Silver, so you won't be lacking in the experience of emotional gasping breaths of this wonderfully written story.
Thank you for the opportunity to be part of your team. It means so much to me.
I was sent an ARC of this book by Nicole. This is my honest review.
What if Little Red Riding Hood was not a little girl but a vicious hunter? And her life mission is to hunt werewolves, the same creatures that cost her her Grandmère? But what if not all werewolves are the same? And what if she is forced to team up with one to save innocent villagers?
The book is a dual POV (neither of which is boring or redundant) retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. The story is a romantic fantasy with some dark elements. It is a companion novel to the Gwen St. James Affair series - but as someone who has yet to read the series, it was thoroughly enjoyable.
This was a fun read, with a lot of action-packed excitement! And a gut-wrenching love story, with a lot of self-acceptance and self-forgiveness.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
This is a dark retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. As with the many fairytale retellings in literature these days, there is a fine line between keeping true to the plot or just blowing the whole story out of the water. Alix and Cyrus's enemies-to-lovers story rode that line expertly. The idea of what truly defines 'monster' is explored throughout the book and within the characters perceptions of themselves. Honestly, I think that the self-reflection (and self-recrimination) adds to just as much darkness as all the monster hunting and historical trauma in the book. In the best way possible.
I also really enjoyed the Gwen cameo in this book, as a reader that was introduced to Alix and Cyrus through the Gwen St. James Affair series! I love that this book is connected to that world but you don't need any of the context of a full series to enjoy this standalone.
This has got to be, what, the 5th or 6th book the author has put out this year? As someone really invested in her writing, this is a great thing, but I can't help but notice the writing to be a little... sloppier? That might be too harsh a word. But some things seem to be out of order, especially regarding Alix's lineage and Cyrus's ability to sus out her lack of humanness, or side characters being renamed, but missing one or two of the old name. It led to some confusion as a reader trying to figure out who the heck Fleur was or who was talking. Sometimes I wondered if maybe the wrong word got put into the sentence, and I know when I type that alliterations can find their way into my fingertips. I get that ARCs will have more of these than the final publication, but I found it to take me out of the story to go back and see what I missed more regularly than in others. Still, Nicole McKeon is a master storyteller and I'm always looking forward to more stories in this world (especially when they don't come with a cliffhanger!)
This book was fantastic, it is a nice twist on red riding hood and what she does after her story (although her story itself has its own twist).
The plot was brilliant and well thought out, there were twists that had me reeling, and the relationship between the two main characters was well developed.
The story itself is magic and like the series this book stems from (although this one is set years before The Gwen St James affair- which you should also read because they are fantastic) they are unique and set in a really interesting world of monsters and faeries, elves, and dwarves.
If you are unsure whether to dive into a series, start here, and you won’t be disappointed.
I was lucky enough to receive an arc copy of this book on exchange for an honest review, this completely 100% my opinion. I want to thank Nicole for sending me this arc, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more of her work.
Another 5 star book! Imagine Little Red Ridinghood hunting werewolves…. Carrying around a big secret when she meets a wolf who claims he isn’t like those other wolves who prey on innocent lives. No… he protects the innocent just like she does.
I had the honor of being an ARC reader but MY copy has already been pre-ordered
Having read all of the currently published Gwen St. James books, I was very excited to get Alix and Cyrus’ backstory. I went into this knowing it was a “Little Red Riding Hood” reimagining and was pleasantly surprised at where the overlaps occurred.
For those who have read Gwen St. James, this is spicier. You’ll get enemies to lovers and only one bed at the inn. But the drama, the action, and the turning point surprise(s) will keep you saying, “just one more chapter.”
I really recommend reading Nicole’s other books in this world first. It helped to know “where” we were going, personally. Plus it made a cameo appearance way more meaningful!
This book is more “monster” side of fantasy than the others considering the perspectives it is written in. I definitely recommend it!
I was so excited when I got the email asking me if I wanted to be an Arc reader for Alix and Cyrus story of how they meet and came to love each other. When I read the gwen story where I was introduced talked to Alix and Cyrus it never occurred to me that it was a retelling of little red riding hood story and could not be any happier with the outcome. Two people that consider each other a monster, that are made to work together and fight a threat that is much bigger than either of them . Awesome enemies to lovers and defiantly spicy, absolutely a five star review
I received an ARC copy of Blood and Silver. Thank you to Nicole for allowing me to review this and I leave this review of my own free will!
I absolutely adored this retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood story! What an imaginative way to re-tell a classic childhood story with an adult twist.
Alix and Cyrus' enemies to lovers journey is a wild rollercoaster ride of emotions. From immediate hate through the thaw to them falling in love with each other, my heart was with them. The exploration of what it means to really be a monster drives their story to a satisfying conclusion, while leaving me wondering, what's next for them? (Dare I hope there will be more to their story?).
Love the addition of the surrounding characters who play a significant role in helping Alix and Cyrus learn about themselves, each other, and to complete their journey. My heart also tugs for those lost to evil from their pasts.
I'm giving this one a solid 5 stars! Love all of Nicole's books! This is a MUST READ!
Nicole Mckeon masterfully delivers a fast paced, action packed, compelling, retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. In her signature style she tells the story of how Alix and Cyrus, who appeared in the Lady Gwen St. James story, meet. The world and characters a vivid, and the story pulls you in from the beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat to the end. This is a must read. Can’t wait for the next book by Nicole Mckeon.
I was lucky to get an ARC copy of this book but I had already preordered it and paid for it. This is an entirely unbiased review I have been waiting for this book since I started to read the main Gwen St James series and these characters appeared. It did not disappoint in any way. The characters are just as nuanced and real as I have come to expect from Nicole’s writing. The banter may not be as sharp as Gwen’s but it is lively. The depth of story js compelling and makes this an entire page turner that I finished in 2 days, had life not got in the way I probably would have tried to read it all in one day as I just have to know what happens next with all of Nicole’s books. I cannot wait for these characters to appear again in the universe
I was lucky to get this copy as an arc. I wanted to read this as I found the original series to be very good and wanted to see more of the other characters we were introduced to. This story had me gripped from the beginning and I finished it in a day. The spice was just enough and the exploration of the characters and their pasts was griping. The banter between the 2 main characters was just right and I feel that there could be another story that follows these 2.
I received an ARC of this book, this is my honest review.
I absolutely love this book! I already knew the characters from the books of the Gwen St. James Affair and adored them. This is the story of how Alix and Cyrus met, a Little Red Riding Hood retelling with spice and ALL THE FEELS.
Alix is a vicious monster hunter known as La Cape Rouge, dead set on revenge on werewolves. When she has to team up with Cyrus, a werewolf who isn't quite like the monsters she's used to, to defeat a bigger evil, the last thing she expected is to find redemption and someone who might understand her better than she does herself.
In this book you'll find some of my favorite things: -Enemies to lovers -Working through your trauma/fears/emotions -Grumpy FMC/Cinnamon Roll (but can still hurt you) MMC -Did I mention ALL THE FEELS?
We also get a Gwen cameo that shows how she became fast friends with both Alix and Cyrus without taking away anything of their story.
If you enjoy Gaslamp Fantasy, putting characters through the ringer (I sobbed all the sobs during this book!), witty banter, well developed characters and an immersive world, this is the book for you!!
This is not the Little Red Riding Hood of your childhood. This is dark, thrilling, and so much more. Nicole was able to twist the story into a compelling read that is all grown up.
I was so happy to get a book starring Alix and Cyrus from the Gwen St. James Affair series. It was great to find out how they met and fell in love. I loved them from reading Gwen's series and finding out that they started out as enemies felt real. The snark and banter between the two was ugh, so good to read. There were a few times I may have kicked my feet in the air giddily. It was interesting to see how they thought about each other and the debate on who was the monster and what makes a monster. Gwen's cameo brought a smile to my face as well, it was like being greeted by an old friend.
This story is dark so do heed the content warnings. I don't think this book would work if it wasn't dark. The characters are morally grey which don't tend to go with a more happy story. I definitely recommend this though if you like your fantasy dark and spicy. This is another one that I couldn't put down.
Thank you Nicole for an Arc of another glimpse of this wonderful world.
This is the retelling of little red riding hood I’ve been looking for since the beginning of the pandemic. I can’t call it cozy because of the topics it covers but the process that the characters go though is undeniably heartwarming. If you want a book that deals with understanding one’s own darkens and the beauty of loving yourself with it, this is the romance novel for you.
Something is off with the werewolves and Alix is determined to figure it out and stop them! Her hatred for them runs deep, so when she is forced to partner with one she has to use every ounce of self restraint to not eliminate him, permanently. Cyrus was chosen by the moon to protect the people. With Alix’s reputation, Cyrus has every reason not to trust her. Even with her guard up and clear hatred for him, Cyrus finds himself undeniably attracted to her. They both have secrets and traumatic pasts that haunt them to this day. With the full moon quickly approaching, will they be able to put their differences aside to stop these vicious creatures from slaughtering innocents? Or will their hatred blind and destroy them instead?
Another 5 star read by Nicole McKeon! This companion novel to the Gwen St. James Affair (GSJA) series is pure gold or should I say red? A ‘dark’ fantasy romance retelling of Little Red Riding Hood filled with adventure, suspense, and tension.
Let’s start with the characters, as a fan of the Gwen St. James Affair series, I loved reading about Alix and Cryus’ backstory. (You do not need to read the GSJA series to read this book.) The personal growth of each character individually was satisfying and rewarding alone. However, it was wonderfully enhanced by the dynamic and development of their relationship, which, throughout the story was messy and beautiful all at the same time. The way they challenged one another while still being a safe haven for each other’s trauma made my heart want to explode. Also, I definitely screamed in pure joy over a certain cameo.
The story itself was brilliantly crafted and a phenomenal journey. Perfectly enhanced with some jaw dropping plot twists, it took me on an emotional rollercoaster that left me thrilled and happy for the ride but sad that it was over. Of course we can’t forget about the spice. 😉 It fit flawlessly into the storyline; the variety of intention, vulnerability, and intensity kept it interesting and fresh. 3.5 chili peppers! 🌶️
One of the things I love most about this book was the incorporation of PTSD, the dark side of trauma, the journey of healing, and the discovery of self-worth. Nicole said it herself in one of her TikTok videos, “I wrote blood & silver for the people whose trauma made them feel like a monster. Whose exposure to the darkness made them think that they were disqualified from happiness…..I wanted to explore the darker side of self identity.” This person was very much me, I understood these struggles on a deeper, personal level. I saw my journey to accepting myself, love and happiness in these pages. The fact that Nicole could successfully do this in a fantasy book speaks volumes to her talent as a writer.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good fairytale retelling, as well as, anyone who enjoys fantasy, fantasy romance, or is interested in a darker fantasy with romance. Of course if you’ve read the GSJA series then this is a no brainer for you!
*I had the honor of being an ARC reader for Blood and Silver and this is my honest review.*
What happens when you fall in love with the very thing that you’ve hated for most of your life? This is the exact dilemma that Alix, the FMC finds herself in.
Blood & Silver is the retelling of Little Red Riding hood and the big, bad wolf. Only in this story, Red Riding Hood is a grown woman and a ruthless werewolf hunter. She is also hiding a very dark secret.
Cyrus is the big, bad wolf only he’s not your typical werewolf - he was created by the magic of the moon specifically to help protect mortals.
Alix and Cyrus have to work together to help protect the innocent lives of the villagers from werewolves that were created to kill and destroy everything in their path. They both must learn to trust each other or else they will fail in their mission. But trusting each other isn’t easy and they both must come to terms with their past traumas & prejudices. They both must learn that vulnerability doesn’t make you weak - it makes you stronger.
I loved seeing the evolution of Alix and Cyrus’ relationship. From hate to tolerance. From tolerance to friendship. And from friendship to lust and ultimately love. The sexual tension was off the charts and Nicole did a beautiful job bringing the spice to life! The spice wasn’t over the top and it didn’t take anything away from the main story - it was written perfectly and I ate it up!
The action scenes were intense and so was exhilarating from beginning to end. I was hooked within the first paragraph.
I’m a huge fan of the Gwen St. James Affair series where we were first introduced to Alix and Cyrus. While Blood & Silver is a standalone, I particularly enjoyed how Nicole showed us the whole back story of how Gwen met Alix and Cyrus. It was like fitting the puzzle pieces together and admiring the beautiful creation that is “The Gwen St. James Universe”!
I simply adore Nicole’s writing style and she is now one of my favorite authors. Can’t wait to read more of her books!
I was sent an ARC of this book. This is my honest review.
I received an ARC from the author and am leaving an honest review.
**
This is not the fairytale we know, but it's something larger, darker, and more amazing. The original fairytale is still here (the red cloak, the wolf, the grandmother) but Nicola has managed to twist and turn it into something compelling and larger than life. I was immediately swept off my feet and transported into this world and the plot kept me hooked until the final moments. I am in love.
I adored Alix and Cyrus from Gwen St James affair books already and I was so happy to get to know them better. I also actually think it helped that I already knew the characters beforehand and it was easy to slip into their love story. And I adore the enemies-to-lovers storyline! The snark, the banter, the way these two resisted the hearteyes... Ugh, so perfect. I also really, really loved the deep dive into both their psyches and where everything stemmed from. In the end, who is a monster and why? What makes a monster? And can a monster be forgiven? Loved that exploration in this book.
I was so happy to have a Gwen cameo in the book as well! And I liked that she wasn't a prominent character but we got just the right amount. It was also the Gwen before and now I want to go back and read all her books because the difference between this Gwen and the Gwen in Vanished and after is good and creates a layer there that wasn't before.
I will also say, this story is dark. The darkness lurks in the pages and is very prominent is places. The warnings are there for a reason and it's definitely worth to take note of them. But I think had this been lighter, it wouldn't have worked as well. This story and Alix + Cyrus both are morally grey and self-proclaimed monsters, so having the darkness with them makes perfect sense.
I highly recommend you devour this book as I did. It's that good.
Once again Nicole McKeon has delivered a fantastical with loads of action and spice. As a companion novel to her Gwen St. James series, Blood and Silver tells the story of two of Gwen's friends: Alix LaRouge and Cyrus Campbell. In the world established by McKeon, monsters are a real and ever-present threat to humanity. Hunters with special skills protect people and keep the supernatural creatures at bay. One of the most successful hunters is Alix, whose own supernatural heritage has kept her pursuing her vocation for centuries; especially werewolves, a class of monster she has deeply-hurtful reasons to hate. It is only at the direction, and pressure, of a trusted friend, Mother Superior of the Sisters of St. Christophe, does she accept partnering with Cyrus - a "True Born" werewolf, able to shift while maintaining his humanity. Each protagonist has their reasons to hate and distrust the other but they are called to investigate the terrifying new phenomena of wicked werewolves destroying whole villages in strategic manners previously thought impossible. Throughout this standalone story, McKeon, portrays deep and thoughtful characters, struggling with their prejudices, pain and lack of self-worth to find a place and a purpose. The sparks between Alix and Cyrus are immediate and intense and their growing understanding, respect and love lifts this story to thoroughly entertaining heights. The spicy scenes are sizzling and the action scenes ar thrilling. This is a read imminently worthy of your time. Highly recommend.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are completely my own.
Little Red Riding Hood was one of my favorite stories growing up but this is not the story you grew up with. Think darker a lot darker and you are right on the money. If you loved the story of Ruby in the Once upon a time tv series I think you will enjoy this one.
What if Little Red Riding Hood was a monster hunter with a dark secret of her own? Alix is a monster hunter, she has been hunting monsters since she was thirteen years old. After a werewolf killed her grandmother Alix swore to avenge her by hunting these monsters to extinction.
Then she meets Cyrus a true child of the moon. He seems different than the wolves she has been hunting for most of her life but is he really different or is he simply biding his time until the perfect chance to kill her.
As a pack of werewolves descend on small towns around France leaving no survivors behind Alix is forced to team up with Cyrus and hunt them down. Alix does not trust the wolf in the slightest but is he really that bad or is her own secrets affecting her judgement?
Working side by side with Cyrus, Alix is forced to face her past but this is complicated even more when feelings for Cyrus starts stirring inside her. How could she possibly love the very creature she has been hunting all these years? Werewolves took everything she held dear from her falling for Cyrus feels like a betrayal of those she loved.
Can Alix overcome her past and face her inner demons in time to save the villages or will her own bias cost these people their lives and so much more?
In this fantasy retelling Nicole McKeon writes a story that will leave you breathless whether from the action packed fights or the steamy spice. The banter between these two character had me giggling more than once. I fell in love with Alix and Cyrus through the course of this book. I cried with them, laughed with them and had my heart broken and put back together again in the best way possible. Blood and Silver is a must read for any fantasy romance reader.
4.25 stars! I really enjoyed this book and will probably get a physical copy of it. I liked the dynamic between Alix and Cyrus and the progression of their relationship for most of the book. Their chemistry and interactions had me invested from the start.
However, the last 30% or so of the book is when I lost a little interest. I wish the villain of this book had been hinted at earlier instead of him popping up at around the 70% mark. It felt a bit random. His relationship to Alix was never really brought up previously, which made the reveal kinda meh. The setting also got a little muddled to me toward the end of the book, which was sad because I really enjoyed the traveling and setting up until then. Finally, the big reveal of what Alix was to Cyrus was a slight letdown. I thought it was going to be more potent and angsty than it was, given the tension built up in Alix’s povs and Cyrus’s stance on vampires.
But despite those points, I did really like this book, and I would recommend it to a friend. It was a fun and engaging read that I never really wanted to put down. I also loved seeing the little cameo of Gwen and Aristotle:)
I came to this book via The Gwen St. James Affair series. I loooooove Gwen and I was excited to see another facet of the Gweniverse.
Here’s the thing: I am not a romantasy girly per se, and I have never been on the vampire/werewolf romance train. I think people who like that genre will be all over this book. Hurt/comfort? Enemies to lovers? Mutual emotional damage? Check, check, check. I was the weirdo going, “Can y’all stop smoldering at each other for ten seconds and focus on the mission?” 😂
This book definitely puts the romance front and center. Yes, there is a plot, but it’s primarily a vehicle for the pining and the spice. While it wasn’t my preferred genre, it fits into the world nicely, and doesn’t feel like a complete departure from the other stories set in the same universe. I do, however, think you could read this book WITHOUT the context of the other series and have a perfectly grand time.
I received this book as an ARC; my thanks to the author for letting me continue to enjoy and review her work.
I am extremely greatful to the author Nicole for this ARC.
I felt the suffering between Alix and Cyrus.
Blood and Silver is a standalone book expanding the story of 2 characters from the Gwen St. James Affair series. Gwen appears throughout Blood and Silver but does not take away from Alix and Cyrus story but adds to it thru her Gwen-badassery self.
Alix and Cyrus' enemies to lovers' relationship was not what I would have thought it would be when I read the Gwen St. James Affair series. Alix and Cyrus are 'monsters', well they consider themselves monsters beyond monsters. Both of them are battling with themselves, their inner self, of what and who they are. They believe they are not worth forgiveness, empathy, or love. No matter how many people they save or the monsters they get rid of, they never consider themselves good enough. You are immediately thrown into their dark thoughts and battling emotions. In the end, they learn that not only 'monsters' are the only true monsters that exist in their world, and maybe they do deserve love and forgiveness.
ARC READ- this is my honest review and I have not received any monetary gain.
This beautiful retelling of Little Red Riding Hood had me at the edge of my seat the entire time! I could barely put it down! Rated 5 stars for the romance and the vibes in general. Its also very (and tastefully) spicy.
This story follows Alix La Rouge, The Little Red Riding Hood, on her quest to hunt down a werewolf pack. With her, she has Cyrus Campbell, a handsome werewolf, and they reluctantly cooperate for the better of the people around them. Little do they know that their journey will uncover more mysteries and intrigue than they ever imagined.
I've got to say that I am incredibly impressed and happy with how Nicole wrote Cyrus as a Scotsman. He's not a caricature, as is often the case, but he is both accurate and charming. He's definitely my favourite of them all!
I hope to make an indepth review on tiktok soon, as I need to talk more about the book and how it made me feel
Received an eARC of this book and this is my honest review without any spoilers! This is an Action Packed Enemies to Lovers, Romantasy with Dark elements and Monsters! In case you were wondering, YES it does have SPICE! If you’re looking for a Red Riding Hood retelling like you have never read before then this is the book for you! This book hits you with action immediately from the beginning, then you get to know the two main characters and instantly FEEL all the tension as the enemies are forced to team up for the greater good. McKeon draws you into her immersive world building as Alix and Cyrus investigate the mystery surrounding the horrendous murders linked to werewolf’s. But that’s if they don’t kill each other first! Great book and this comes as no surprise to me because Nicole McKeon never disappoints!
I received an ARC of this book from Nicole and am leaving my unbiased review.
I enjoyed the reimagining of “Little Red Riding Hood” as well as Nicole's take on the different types of werewolves.
I met and fell in love with Alix and Cyrus in my reading of the Gwen St. James books. I was so excited to get to their backstory and I was not disappointed (loved Gwen's cameo!). There was plenty of spice and banter between these enemies turned lovers.
The book was a bit of an emotional roller coaster with several gut wrenching retellings of their childhood experiences and how they became the hunters they are now. They had every reason to hate each other because of the "monsters" they are by birth but they were able to see beyond that and to let their actions speak for them.
I received an arc copy of this for my honest review, which I appreciate so very much.
I enjoyed this book immensely. I won't go into great details because I don't want to spoil anything. Definitely recommend this one! The story was great, and it was hard to put it down once I started. The characters are amazing. I love Alix and Cyrus with my whole heart and getting to see their journeys and them finding themselves as the story goes is definitely an adventure. Something about Nicole's writing is very hypnotic almost it catches you and keeps you until you're done and even then you find another story she's done, I know this for a fact because it this is the second book of hers that I've devoured. So here's to many more lol I look forward to the next read. 😊
Nicole has done it again. And I now have a new book boyfriend…Cyrus. A werewolf who saved a kitten and walked with that little nugget on his shoulder until its mama came to find it. A man after my heart.
In this novel we get the story of Cyrus, a werewolf, and Alix, half vampire and how they came together to battle an uprising of modified werewolves. Their backstories intertwine more than they realize and it’s lovely to see their hate progress to respect to unwavering love.
Though this is a side story of the Gwen St James Affair (a gas lamp fantasy series already four books in), it is not necessary to read, but highly recommended becomes its amazing.
