Based on the hit streaming series, “Young David” offers early readers five new chapter books, each exploring a different trial and triumph from the young shepherd boy’s days in the wild. King David was known as a man after God’s own heart, and as a boy, he’s no different. Through this stunning and Biblically faithful book series, kids get to grow up with David as he finds his calling as a warrior, a shepherd, a poet, a king, and ultimately as a worshipper.
In Book 2: Shepherd, a storm is brewing, and one of David’s sheep is missing. David wants to find the animal, but his older brother, Eliab, forbids it. He believes it’s too dangerous for a young boy to go out in the middle of a storm. David ignores his brother’s caution, choosing instead to follow his faith. “It’s my job to look after my sheep,” David says. “It’s God’s job to look after me.” The young shepherd runs out into the wind and rain, braving lightning, floods, and mudslides to find his lost sheep. Through strength and determination, David’s daring rescue mission serves as a living example of Jesus’ parable of the good shepherd.
Each book in the series is generously supplied with some truly incredible black-and-white illustrations. Both kids and adult readers will enjoy seeing David come to life as he leaps off the page to thrilling and often humorous effect. While the art design is similar, if not identical, to the “Young David” show’s design, the book team has instead chosen to draw their artwork from scratch. It’s a commendable decision that lends an original and fun storybook feel to all five of David’s adventures.
“Young David: Poet,” adapted by Andy McGuire with illustrations by Carol Langley, earns our highest recommendation.

The kids gave this a 5 star!!! Great early chapter books based on the Young David series on Angel.
