Ironically, the author who first brought me into this subgenre is the same author who triggered my decision to give it up... in fact, it's the very same series.

When I first came across Tamer, it opened my eyes to a sub-genre of books that offered extremely creative stories that had an adult twist that were designed to appeal to men. Yes, they were action-heavy, highly sexual, and essentially male power fantasies, but they were at their core creative stories first and foremost. Over the years, though, I've seen this genre explode in popularity but devolve in quality until the average novel is a mixture of bad soap operas and equally bad pornography. The story is thin, underdeveloped, and exists only to set up the next boring sex scene.

Michael Scott Earle is an author whose work has mirrored what has happened in the genre as a whole, and in no series is that more evident than the Tamer series. The early books in this series were everything that was best in the genre. They were creative, well-written stories with a harem storyline as a fun side angle. Now they are formulaic harem pornos that have barely enough story happening to call this collection of sex scenes a novel.

This is the formula that the new Tamer novels have devolved into. Each element in this formula is twice as present in this book as the next element:

1. Soap opera scenes featuring women coming to terms with being part of a harem and explaining why they love Victor.
2. Boring, unimaginative and clinical sex scenes
3. Characters saying what they are going to do or explaining their powers (telling and never showing)
4. Boring dinosaur action scenes with no stakes
5. Actual story progression that moves the series forward.

This formula needs to be reversed at a minimum to deliver an interesting novel. Even then it wouldn't be enough. What really needs to happen is the author needs to rediscover the important ingredients of telling a good story and focus on that. The sad thing is, this series and this author used to understand that. Now he feels more like an AI writer with an amazing marketing formula.

After this book, I'm officially done with this series and this genre as a whole. There might still be good books out there somewhere, but as the ratings for this book show, it's impossible to find them anymore because, for some reason, every single book in this sub-genre gets great reviews regardless of quality.

The first few books in this series were really good, since then it has taken a direction I do not favor. The interaction with the dinosaurs and bad guys are still good. I like the community building and efforts to create a new home. Even the exploring and discovery of this new world, all still good. The last few books have too much time and attention to adult situations. I’m not a fan of the harem thing and the relationships seem too juvenile. Some remind me of a bad story in Penthouse magazine.
Some conclusions need to be revealed, like who are the overlords and what is the plan. Enough with every female who sees the main character falls hopelessly in love and becomes a bold as a porn star.
I really would like to see the conclusion but if the direction doesn’t change at lease a little it will be hard to continue.

Mr. Earle has once again both created a fun and engaging read, introducing a new group of survivors and taking his skills to new levels. It is always interesting to see both how the abilities of Victor and the ladies can be used in new and creative ways and with the introduction of new survivors, it can only be assumed that the doors are wide open to what they will able to accomplish.
Victor is able to continue to show is strength with the addition of new dinos to his team but also with his ability to maximize the strengths of his tribe and utilize them in a way to make the greater than any of the individual parts.
The introduction of a new tribe, potentially creating a new stronghold, will be interesting in how he is able to connect the two tribes over such a long distance. It will also allow Victor to try and get once stop closer to deciding how to attack and conqueror the tribe that is his main concern.
These have become one of my favorite reads. The incorporation of unique powers and the dynamic of Victor and his tribe is always entertaining. I can’t wait until the next one comes out.

Picking up immediately where book 8 left off, Tamer 9 continues Victor Shelby's journey to eventually become King of Dinosaurland.

We get to know more about the new members of his tribe, observe the planning for their new home, and meet new allies. Of course Victor's immediate family grows substantially, and we get to see him do what he does best: conquer those who would enslave and abuse his new allies.

I'll stop my review here since I really don't want to start talking about any spoilers. Hopefully the next Kickstarter won't take as long to get to as this one did, but I guess that will all depend on the printer for those who purchased physical copies.

The second cave in scene was predictable and a bit cringe, but otherwise, a great continuation to this epic story. Lots of action, humour and steamy scenes. Look forward to the next book.

The adventures were exciting as usual, lots of funny hilarious scenes. I'm always sad when a books ends and as usual a sort of cliffhanger. Now again waiting for the next installment 😑
.
Ruffio was amazing. Glad he's part of the family now.
