An Empire As A Betrothal Gift
Volume 1- The Moon Over The Qin
What I like about this one is that the king, despite needing to be strong and unaffected by human affairs, finds himself feeling and truly living for the first time. His role as the emperor over the heavens is to care about all his subjects equally, and yet he can’t help his favoritism towards the one person that can stand on equal footing with him: Wei Lian.
Moreover, I like this story because it’s about two individuals who have been isolated their entire lives and can’t seem to trust others, but despite knowing they shouldn’t, find themselves attached to the other in a very wholesome way.
Also, despite having such power, Ji Yue is very careful about consent, which is something that a lot of royals don’t worry about. Because his childhood was one of powerlessness and desperation, he never wants to make Wei Lian feel the way he did.
I’m looking forward to see how their story progresses.
