First off, I would like to make a few acknowledgements. A sincere than you to NetGalley, Sounds True Publishing, and Karla McLaren for my ebook version of the ARC for this self-help workbook.
Three stars out of five (3/5 stars).
The Language of Emotions Workbook A Practical Guide to Reveal the Wisdom in Each of Your Feelings By Karla McLaren.
Even though this wasn't really my kind of book; I didn't really connect to the writing style and exercises given, but I learned some really important things about myself and isn't that the point of self help books? I struggled through this book at first, but I really enjoyed the vocabulary lists, they were very helpful.
I wouldn't buy this for myself, but would recommend it for others as we all have different ways of dealing with our problems and I truly hope it helps others.
First and foremost, thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. I am a DBT Therapist and we teach many people about getting down to the roots and accurately identifying our emotions. This may sound like an “obvious thing” however, many people struggle with truly knowing how to describe their emotions. This workbook, although at times too simplistic in my opinion, would be helpful to providing a foundation of paying mindful attention to your emotions and how they feel in your body. I do wish the book had deeper examples that held more weight, but it’s a decent book overall. I would also like to see more adjectives for primary emotions and where they fit on an “emotional thermometer”
The Language of Emotions Workbook by Karla McLaren is a great resource to learn about how emotions can affect and influence your moods. This workbook would be more useful and helpful if used within a therapeutic session or with a group of people who wish to learn more about emotions and how they can affect yourself and others in many different situations.
I enjoyed working through this workbook and learning more about what my emotions are and what they can help me learn. I’m a big fan of self exploration, and guided journaling, so this was right up my alley.
