I am a Hunter Valley based writer who grew up, farmed, and played along the banks of the Hunter River.

I love the rich history of the area and often escape down the rabbit hole of research. On one such excursion I fortuitously found a family connection to a local landmark and historic figure, William Harpur, one of the founding settlers in the Hunter Valley; assistant to the Surveyor General in 1821; who established his property Oswald on the Hunter River in the mid 1820’s, and is related to my father’s great-grandfather who settled in Australia in the 1840’s.

This discovery piqued my interest in the people who lived here before me, and so I find myself setting my stories in and around the places I grew up. I was fortunate to have lived on a small property and grew up riding horses, mustering with a local cattleman who filled my head with stories of his life growing up on the land, caring for the pit ponies during a strike at the Rothbury Mine Riot and being branded a scab, and learning about horses, cattle, the land, and the area.

My love of reading evolved into a desire to write, and with that, I determined to be the best writer I could be, and so embarked on a series of writing courses both online and overseas. I was blessed to be able to travel to the UK and attend Kate Forsyth’s History, Mystery, and Magic writing retreat in the gorgeous Cotswolds, where I learned the importance of research and taking the time to get it right. I won a mentorship with Charlotte Legder of Harper Impulse with a Romantic Suspense story, and another with Felicity Pulman for Stone of Destiny, a YA timeslip

I’ve dabbled in contemporary romance, YA timeslip and finally have found my home in Australian Historical stories with a good dash of romance, because I love romance.

Lucy Stewart lives in the Hunter Valley, in the Colony of New South Wales and she’s running her husband’s transport business using a bullock team and a three wheeled dray. She can’t believe it when her brother-in-law Joe, a gentle soul is accused of murder and it makes no sense.

Constable Sam Donovan has been sent to Batley to investigate possible corruption, he meets Joe Stewart and he believes he's innocent and he's determined to find the real killer. Two people he doesn’t think are trustworthy, are Magistrate Martin and Chief Constable Black and he’s sure their attitude towards the case is the reason Joe's in lock-up and waiting for a hearing.

Lucy is an independent person, she runs their small farm, harnesses the bullock team, keeps them moving and makes deliveries. Lucy hates asking for help, however she will do anything to get Joe out of the lock-up, and she needs Sam's assistance. The Smokey Gang has been operating in the area for a couple of years, the bushrangers ambush Lucy and threaten her. Together they need to solve the mystery of who's the real the killer, are they linked to The Smokey Gang and what are they doing with the stolen goods?

I received a copy of Among the Grey Gums by Paula J. Beavan from Harlequin Australia and NetGalley for an honest and unbiased review. I enjoy authentic and well written Australian fiction, Ms. Beavan makes you feel like you’re in New South Wales in 1842, the language and sayings are appropriate for the time and so is the plot. I could easily picture in my mind the dense scrub, gum trees and spookiness of the uncleared bushland. Based around true facts of women who were bullock drivers, gangs of bushrangers and life in colonial Australia.

The story has elements of suspense, mystery, danger, secrets, blackmail and combine this with Lucy's determination and never give up attitude and it's a believable scenario. The characters make the narrative, I really liked Lucy and Sam, Joe and Bill Wright, Sophia and George Harcourt, Splinter Lucy’s dog and Sam’s horse Ramses.

Five stars from me, Lucy got on with things without making a fuss and she’s a strong person and Sam Donovan is a swoon worthy hero and he made my heart flutter. I highly recommend Among the Grey Gums and the author's debut novel Daughter of the Hunter Valley.

In 1842 Lucy Stewart was returning to her bullock dray which was loaded with goods, expecting to find her brother-in-law Joe Stewart with the beasts, but he and the dray were gone. The drunken Reg Clancy could only say he'd left, heading to her next destination. When she found Joe, he was in the lockup, accused of murder and the dray was being unloaded by a group of unruly men. When Constable Sam Donovan arrived at the lockup, having been sent from Sydney to find and put an end to the Smokey Gang - bushrangers who had terrorised the community of Morpeth and surrounds for years - he immediately detected something wrong with the two men supposedly in charge of the lockup. Their actions were suspicious to say the least. Sam had a job to do - now he also had to find the real killer before Joe was hanged...

Lucy was an independent young woman, and although running the bullocks was generally a man's job, she had bills to pay; a mortgage to reduce. Her husband couldn't help her now, so it was up to her. She was also determined to find the young woman's killer so asking questions around the farms and properties drew the attention of the men she needed to stay clear of. Would she and Sam find who they were searching for before it was too late?

Among the Grey Gums is another excellent historical novel by Aussie author Paula J. Beavan which I thoroughly enjoyed. Sam (strong and determined) and Lucy (skittish, caring and frightened to trust) as well as Joe (filled with childlike innocence) and Bill (a genuinely good bloke), were great characters and made the setting of the Hunter Valley back in 1842 come together. With bushrangers, corruption, lies and secrets to wade through, it was a wonder the good guys had any success! Among the Grey Gums is an intriguing historical mystery which captivated me from the beginning. Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

I love a good Australian historical and Paula J Beavan has not disappointed, this is her second book and it is absolutely brilliant, I loved the characters, the setting the author has taken me back to this time in history with a true telling of how it was and how a woman runs a bullock team, life is hard but Lucy Stewart never gives in, come along and meet her and the wonderful characters, good and bad, this one was very hard to put down.

It is 1842 in The Hunter and Lucy Stewart and her young brother in law Joe are working hard to make ends meet with their bullock team and dray and then life turns upside down when young Joe is accused of murder, Lucy knows he is innocent and will go to any lengths to prove it.

Constable Sam Donovan is sent to the area to investigate the bushrangers known as the Smokey gang, who have been operating for a couple of years now and the local constabulary have no clues as to who they are, when he arrives what he finds is a young man being held on murder charges and some dubious men unloading a dray and a woman who says that it is her property.

Sam is convinced young Joe is innocent and that there is more going on here than first thought, he and Lucy are soon working as a team to uncover the truth to save Joe from the hangman’s noose but soon are sure that the Smokey Gang are somehow connected, danger lurks at every turn and with the gang after Lucy now Sam is determined to keep Lucy safe.

Lucy has secrets that her and Joe must keep to themselves she also finds it very hard to trust, but as her and Sam are spending a lot more time together getting to the bottom of what is going on, maybe it is time to tell him and learn to trust, and what they uncover will shock them cover-ups, corruption and so much more but will they find love and happiness along the way? Will they uncover the Smokey Gang?

This is such an awesome story I loved it so much, Lucy is such a strong determined woman and Sam how fabulous is he and then there is Joe the boy man with the kind heart and then animals that also add so much to the story, the bullocks, Ramses the horse, Splinter the dog.

Paula J. Beavan is one of my favourite authors now with two fabulous books and I do look forward to many more to come, I highly recommend this one, it is a must read for any lovers of a good Australian historical that has mystery, crime a fabulous setting and romance as well, the ending is awesome.

My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my copy to read and review

Among the Grey Gums is my first read by Paula J. Beavan and I absolutely loved it! I do have Paula's debut novel on my shelf and I can't wait to read it.

I loved Lucy's character! She was forthright, courageous and strong.

1842 Hunter Valley, Lucy is a woman in a man's world, fighting to survive and make a living in a harsh environment. Everyone that knew her respected her but it was still a dangerous place for a woman, she had to not only be tough but smart too.

Constable Samuel Donovan was the perfect hero, respectful and compassionate. He had been sent to the Hunter Valley to investigate the local magistrate and why there had been no progress on capturing a gang of bushrangers. The Constable ends up helping Lucy try to clear her brother-in-law's name when he is accused of murder.

Among the Grey Gums is a riveting historical fiction. I love that Paula J. Beavan writes strong, feisty female characters. Lucy is doing what is considered to be a man's job, and doing it well. I liked the descriptions of the bullock teams, how they all had names and the whole process of yoking the team up, travelling through the harsh countryside and sleeping under the stars.

There is a perfect division of good and bad characters which balanced the story out nicely.
A very subtle romance thread added a heartwarming touch to this story of murder, corruption and manipulation.

I'm excited to read Daughter of the Hunter Valley, where we are introduced to another strong and resilient female character.

Among the Grey Gums can be categorized as a road trip novel. We follow along as heroine Lucy and the hero constable Sam Donovan traverse back country roads by horseback and bullock cart to visit sites and speak with persons of interest during the investigation into the murder of a prominent landowner’s wife.

Lucy’s brother-in-law has been charged with the brutal crime. She knows that he is innocent, however the local police quickly pin it on him and are ready to see him conveniently swing for the crime.

There are multiple deceptions afoot and a mystery that slowly unfolds regarding Lucy and her husband. The local authorities also have their own secrets to hide regarding the Smokey Gang, thieves who are terrorizing the community. Along the way we meet many unique characters, both colorful and menacing, learn clues that are subtly dropped like breadcrumbs, and experience a great character arc for the heroine.

The themes of honor, trust, and justice drive this story. Beavan’s descriptions of the area and culture bring a long-gone era to life with flair. The mystery elements kept me guessing until the final reveal, and her characters were at times exasperating and endearing.

Much to my delight, animals also play an important part in the story. Sam’s horse Ramses was a nice mirror to its owner, as well as Lucy’s dog, Splinter. The very slow burn romance was secondary to the story but satisfying.

In the end, Beavan delivered a memorable and moving story full of character and insight into the world of colonial Australia, hardship, and renewal. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Elizabeth Brennan while I read the text. Her accent really added to my enjoyment by giving me the full local experience and I recommend pairing the two formats for the total experience.

Thank you Harlequin for sending us a copy to read and review.
History comes alive on the pages in the 1800s as Paula pens an Australian historical fiction saga that has romance, adventure, action, mystery and much melodrama.
As we return to the Hunter Valley for her second book in 1842, Lucy Stewart is suddenly thrown into a chaotic world.
A murder has occurred and her brother in law, Joe is the prime suspect but he said he is innocent.
To avoid his death she must investigate and get close to danger.
Constable Sam Donovan believes his innocence and is on hot pursuit of the truth with Lucy.
Their journey brings them in contact with the dangerous Smokey Gang and many others as well as fighting their own attraction to each other.
But Lucy’s own secrets get in the way and she has trouble relying on help.
Can they both uncover the facts and bring it all to justice…….
The primary storyline is entertaining, interesting and full of jeopardy and peril and while there’s a romantic element it’s more so a secondary plot.
The characters and atmosphere outback setting lead all the way for this sparkling narrative to be told.
Vivid descriptions, glorious storytelling and good old hard yakka Aussie history all make this a classic read.
Inspiring, engaging, inventive, interesting and blissful, give this latest book a devouring eyeful.

Among the Grey Gums – Paula L. Beavan

I was given an advanced copy of this book from the publisher – Harper Collins Australia.

Paula J. Beavan is an Australian author who resides in Hunter Valley and loves to write historical fiction.

Lucy Stewart is a bullock driver and does what she can to look after her brother-in-law, Joe, and keep the farm running - no thanks to the trouble her husband causes.

One fateful night breaks the fragile peace that Lucy has built for herself and Joe – while out on a Bullock run alone Joe stumbles across a murdered woman.

He is promptly locked up by the local Magistrate and his men and framed for the murder.

Lucy beside herself with worry tries to track down Joe and discover what has become of him and in doing so stumbles across Constable Sam.

Sam has been sent from Sydney to investigate the notorious Smokey Gang and has managed to find himself entangled in another mess entirely.

Together Lucy and Sam work to prove Joe’s innocence and uncover the Smokey Gang becomes both incidents seemingly relate to one another. Yet this is a dangerous undertaking as lives are threatened and more people are hurt – and more dangerous still the secret Lucy and Joe have been keeping threatens to be exposed – which won't make things look any better for Lucy and poor Joe.

Sam is determined to help Joe and Lucy because he is starting to fall in love with the strong stubborn woman – if only he can make her see he can be trusted.

“Among the Grey Gums” is an historical fiction novel based in the Australian outback. Once I got into the rhythm of this novel, I really enjoyed it. Lucy is your typical no nonsense Australian woman forced to thrive in harsh conditions - she isn’t afraid to get stuck in and get her hands dirty just to get the job done. She is also loyal, very head strong and slow to trust and Sam is ever the steadfast rock waiting for Lucy to see him. There were many twists and turns in this story with a happy ending – and of course a small romance. Overall, a pleasant and easy read by a talented Australian author.

Among The Grey Gums - Paula J Beavan

I really enjoyed this historical Australian novel set in the scrubby bushland of the Hunter Valley. I loved Paula’s vivid descriptions of the Aussie bush - I could totally picture it and almost smell those gum trees.

A multi layered, well thought out plot is cleverly written to keep you guessing who the murderer was, what happened to Lucy’s husband, which side of the law the local magistrate and policeman are on, whilst also wondering if romance will blossom.

The cast of characters is all unique and colourful. Real nuggety outback locals! I especially admired Lucy - her toughness, resilience, and mental fortitude.

I now look forward to reading Paula’s first book!

Thank you HQ for the arc of this gorgeous book!

It felt like I was sucked into a vintage Australian movie, going on an adventure with the characters. The epic historical mystery by Paula Beavan is one that fans of Tea Cooper and Jackie French will devour in one sitting. The story is paced well and the story is a historical lovers dream. The author has taken various snippets from history to create this delightful novel.

4/5 definitely recommend!

What an exhilarating trip down colonial Australia lane with Paula J Beavan at the wheel in her new novel Among the Grey Gums! It is a fierce adventurous tale with so many twists, obstacles and surprises it kept me on my toes driving through a minefield of events! I felt truly transported to the 1842 Bushranger era, riding along-side Lucy caught up in her dilemmas and hoping Sam would appear at the right moments. My own nerves were rattled reading about the murder and threats and wanted to hide in my dreams from the notorious Smokey Gang! I was holding my breath when Lucy and others were challenged and threatened by this unusual band of thieves and killers.

Lucy, a bullock driver, is a strong and determined woman who is tired of men telling her what she can and cannot do. Her drive for independence sometimes runs interference with Constable Sam, the man who is trying to help free her brother-in-law from hanging for a crime he and others do not believe he has committed. The chase is on against time, elusive criminals and crooked men in high places. In the process of uncovering the evidence they need for Joe’s acquittal, Lucy discovers much about her husband, her own heart and how to conquer the battles she must face.

There are many colourful supporting characters that round out this wonderfully spun historical mystery. The pacing is perfect, the tension continuous, the plot complex and the setting believable. Paula has done her research remarkably well and from it constructed a solid framework for a fantastic story that pulled me in rapidly and never let me go! This is an excellent highly polished delivery that I enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

There is also a surprise romance that adds another delightful layer of glue that pulls it together even tighter. Sam is a great lead character along-side Lucy and, in many ways, her glorious match. Of course, I cannot forget the adorable animals who also played important parts! I won’t say anymore or spoil the journey for other readers but grab this book, throw on a blanket, set by a crackling fire with your hot chocolate and enjoy the exhilarating goose-bump-ride! 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Many thanks to HQ and Netgalley for the review copy.

In the absence of her husband, Lucy Stewart is an unusual bullocky (i.e. the driver of a team of bullocks) in the Hunter Valley area of New South Wales in 1842. Her already difficult life takes a shocking turn when her brother-in-law and helper, Joe, is arrested for the axe murder of a local woman. Joe is a simple and gentle soul and she knows he is incapable of such a crime.

Enter newly-arrived Constable Sam Donovan who has been sent to the region to investigate mysterious bushrangers known as the Smokey Gang. He concurs with Lucy about Joe and together they set out to prove the young man’s innocence.

Sam soon clashes with members of the local constabulary over their dubious methods and it’s a race against time to save Joe from the hangman’s noose.

Lucy’s determined and resilient character is loosely based on historical women of the time and Sam’s commitment to truth and justice makes him a likeable leading man. There are, naturally, assorted dastardly types who must eventually get their comeuppance.

There is much to recommend in this colonial adventure tale, but it requires concentration to keep track of its numerous characters and non-stop action. It is largely driven by dialogue rather than inner reflection, and there is constant riding between here, there and everywhere and back again (a map giving some idea of real vs. imaginary places and the range covered would have helped). The characters are in and out of houses, shacks and gaols, lost in the bush, assaulted, injured or indignant, all whilst relying on paltry meals routinely thrown together with scraps. The secondary cast has the usual cowardly, slovenly, toothless Dickensian individuals and the horses and bullocks almost have a sideshow of their own, with research into paraphernalia, etc. a tad evident at times.

After its exhausting pace, the resolution can seem an anti-climax and the see-saw romantic relationship between Sam and Lucy barely limps home. All the same, this rattling and generous yarn is sure to find its fans. (Compliments also to the publishers on the care given in producing such a delightful cover.)

“Among the Grey Gums" by Paula J Beavan is a beautifully woven tale set against the backdrop of Australia's rugged landscape. Beavan's vivid descriptions bring the environment to life, making it almost a character in its own right. The protagonist's journey is compelling and heartfelt, exploring themes of resilience, love, and identity. While the pacing occasionally slows, the rich narrative and well-developed characters more than make up for it. A must-read for fans of historical fiction and evocative storytelling.

among the grey gums

A well written story revolving around blackmail, crooked police force, the gentry whom thought that women couldn't do a man's job. A great insight to what life was like for pioneering woman, and their constant struggle to live let alone prosper, in a harsh man's world. A young man who is wrongly convicted of murder, and the race to uncover several different conspiracy's to gain his innocence. A love story evolving amongst the race to save an innocent from the gallows. Loved it a great insight into early NSW

Lucy Stewart is a bullock independent droving heroine.

I enjoyed the story that is woven around her, her brother and Constable Sam Donovan.

Listened to as an audiobook , it was easy listening and read with heart by the narrator.

An even balance of intrigue, historical context and romance. I enjoyed the book.

Being a fan of historical fiction and growing up in country NSW (although not in or near the Hunter region), I welcomed the opportunity to read an advance copy of Paula J. Beavan’s second book.
‘Among the Grey Gums’, set primarily in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, is an 1840’s whodunit, with something for everyone. We follow independent, headstrong Lucy Stewart in her attempt to clear & free, her brother-in-law, Joe, who has been charged with murder, by tracking down the real culprit. Realising she cannot do this alone, Lucy begrudgingly accepts the help of the new constable in town, Sam Donovan. With Lucy’s local knowledge & Sam’s skills as an officer of the law, maybe they can learn to trust each other enough to save Joe from hanging.
I feel the story could have been better without the romance aspect but perhaps that’s only because it didn’t go where I thought it would or wanted it to go.
Overall a great, entertaining read. 4 stars

A few years ago I was offered the chance to read author Paula Beavan’s first book Daughter of the Hunter Valley which was set in 1830s Hunter Valley. I jumped at the chance to read it because the Hunter was my stomping ground in my teens. I really, really enjoyed it, so didn’t hesitate to read this one, which is also set in the Hunter but in the 1840’s.

Paula, is a local Hunter resident and really knows her stuff, and while I wasn’t alive then (and neither was the author) I recognised many of the places mentioned. My ancestor’s were pioneers and were arriving in the Hunter around this time so they could have been part of the history of this setting.

So, our heroine is Lucy and she drives her husband’s transport team of bullocks which pull a dray. The book opens with her team and brother-in-law, Joe, missing and she soon tracks them down and finds that Joe has been arrested for the murder of a well to do woman. Lucy knows Joe is incapable of doing such a thing, he is childlike with a gentle soul, and, luckily for her, she meets Constable Sam Donovan. Sam has been sent to the Hunter Valley to investigate possible police corruption under the guise of looking into the local bush ranger, the Smokey Gang, who have been stealing things unimpeded. When Sam meets Joe Stewart, he immediately believes he's innocent and he's determined to find the real killer. Who he is suspicious of is the local Chief Constable and Magistrate who are thoroughly unpleasant people. But it’s not a criminal offence to be unpleasant, so proof is required.

Lucy and Sam work together to save her brother-in-law but it is not smooth sailing, there is danger, suspense, murder and the mystery of Lucy’s husband to solve before all the loose ends are tied and good triumphs over evil.

I utterly recommend AMONG THE GREY GUMS - and go back and read her first one as well - though both set in the Hunter Valley they are stand alone stories.

Lucy runs a small farm and a bullock team to make local and regional deliveries. She is stoic and has never relied on charity. When her brother-in-law is wrongly accused on murdering a neighbour, at a time when the Smokey Gang are reeking havoc across the Hunter Valley area, she asks Constable Sam for help. Noone is sure about whether the Smokey Gang are bushrangers or some other criminal group; they are elusive, and as Sam and Lucy stumble across clues and pertinent information, the red herrings start to grow.
The criminal elements in this book, taking place in 1842, would be one you could apply to 2022: all you would need to do is add in the Internet mobile phones and cars; the story would be able to be transposed into a sitting room today about robberies murder and their race to find evidence to clear someone's name. I think that's what really captured my attention in reading this book. I also love the fact that Lucy was such an independent woman and even though she utilised her husband’s missing whereabouts to her advantage as security, she really did a lot of heavy lifting in order to survive and keep her mortgage going. The romantic connection between Sam and Lucy did suit the era and the story. I am curious if this romance could have been portrayed in a different way given so much emphasis on Lucy's strength as an independent woman in the 1800s.
This was a book where the historical setting became secondary to the story, and I think that’s why it resonated with me. The references to the Hunter Valley and other NSW towns made it seem so close to home.

Set in 1842 in the Hunter Valley, Among the Grey Gums follows Lucy Stewart, a young woman running her husband's bullock transport business. Her world is turned upside down when her kind-hearted brother-in-law, Joe, is arrested and charged with murder. Convinced of his innocence, Lucy is determined to save him from the hangman’s noose.

Constable Sam Donovan is dispatched from Sydney to the Hunter to track down a notorious bushranging gang known as the Smokey Gang. When Sam meets Joe, he quickly sees that the man couldn’t possibly be guilty. Teaming up with Lucy, they set out to clear Joe’s name and uncover far more than either of them expected.

Among the Grey Gums was a fantastic historical novel, and the colonial Australian setting was a bonus. The author captured the time and place beautifully, with vivid descriptions and an atmospheric backdrop that pulled me right in.

The characters felt authentic and well-written - some were downright awful, while others were wonderfully endearing. I especially loved the animal companions: Ramses, Sam’s loyal horse, and Splinter, Lucy’s faithful dog. Lucy herself was a standout. Feisty, independent, and headstrong, she had a fierce determination that made her incredibly compelling. Her reluctance to accept help, particularly from Sam, added depth to her character. As for Sam, he was a swoon-worthy hero - strong, kind, and the perfect match for Lucy.

Packed with mystery, danger, secrets, and blackmail, Among the Grey Gums was a thoroughly enjoyable read from start to finish.

Among The Grey Gums is set near Maitland north of Sydney in 1842. This is a fabulous historical romantic suspense with a plot that kept me guessing to the end. I admired Lucy Stewart, a bullocky and small lot farmer, who is struggling to eke out a living for herself and her simpleton brother-in-law Joe. It’s not clear at first where her husband is though it is very clear that he hasn’t been around to help for some time. I loved Lucy’s inner strength and resolve to keep going in the face of adversity and her determination to stand on her own two feet. Constable Samuel Donovan of the NSW Mounted Police is immediately recognisable as an upstanding and dedicated officer, keen to find the infamous Smokey Gang and bring them to justice. I loved watching him and Lucy grow together while they jointly worked to save Joe from the gallows. The characters in this story help to set the scene and it was easy to imagine the hardships and deprivations that people faced in country Australia at that time. This story is filled with twists and kept me reading as fast as I could go. I’m definitely putting this one on my keeper shelf.

A great story. Fluently written with interviews, action and setting well balanced. I listened to the audio, narrated expertly by Elizabeth Brennan. The ending was just enough information for the reader to sit and imagine more. I liked that the author gave some information about her researches and even supplied a book title based on one aspect of actual history, as well as the names of a couple of female bullock drivers, giving more for the reader to investigate and so extend the experience of this book. The first Hunter Valley book is not available on audio so I will read that book. Looking forward to a third book from this author.

A brilliant read!
I love reading Paula’s books, they are just like a perfect cup of tea (and best enjoyed alongside a cup of tea!).

This story has the best twists and turns and unpredictability that I love in a good book! Highly recommend.

Among the Grey Gums' by Paula J. Beavan is the first of Beavans books that I've read. It definitely won't be the last!
I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had many twists and turns and little tit bits thrown in to make you question your theory of exactly who the bad guys were!
Set in 1842 in the Hunter Valley Lucy Stewart is a tough women trying to make a living with her team of bullocks along side her brother in law Joe, but when Joe winds up at the wrong place at the wrong time he's on the wrong side of the law leaving Lucy a race against time to prove Joe's innocence.
Constable Sam Donovan wants to do all he can to help Lucy, and she begrudgingly let's him, doesn't mean she trusts him though!
As the cover says, if you're a fan of Darry Fraser and Jackie French, you'll adore Paula J Beavan and it's very true!
Thank you, Harlequin, for the copy to read, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
