An irreverent, sexy, and hysterical romp through the tarot…

KATE:

After inheriting my aunt’s crappy castle in the rinky dink town of Maplewood, Vermont, my life has never been the same. And I’m not just exaggerating.

Nope, I’m now a celestial guardian (called a Daughter of the Moon), I’m the caretaker of a talking goat and a shrunken head, and I’m stuck with the literal worst guardian who’s more attached to me than my own shadow.

And let’s not even talk about the fact that as soon as I took my vow to the moon, my body morphed into something that looks like a fertility statue (and I’m forty-freaking-five, thank you!)

But that’s not even the worst of it. Not by a long shot.

The worst? My sex-crazed mother has just decided to relocate to a town nearby which means we’ll be seeing a lot more of each other. That might sound nice, but it isn’t—not when I have to hide this new life of mine.

At least I have Luke Montgomery to rely on—Luke’s a magician in town and he’s the only one who’s able to keep me from wanting to tear my hair out. Not only that, but Luke’s in a word: hot. And, yeah, I might have a crush on him…

Things get really weird when I start having dreams of an incredibly sexy man who appears to be stuck in a garden, atoning for something. I can’t decide if he’s simply the result of eating too late at night or if he’s meant to teach me something about the newest tarot lesson I’m embarking on—The Hanged Man.

Sometimes life is truly stranger than fiction.

I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.

Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!

I'll start by saying that this is why I don't like reading series that haven't finished yet...I can't handle the cliffhanger...now I'm waiting for book 3 to arrive (rolling eyes). The wait is exasperating...

Good

WARNING! Ends on a pretty big cliffhanger (4/5 on the trauma scale).

It’s time for Kate’s next step on the Tarot Path of Learning, only she doesn’t seem to be getting many clues as to what that path may be.
Fortunately her guides are there to help. Sort of.

Next up is the Hanged Man, and Kate is learning that life isn’t always easy, and the path isn’t always straight.
This path is a little complicated by the fact that Kate’s nudist mother has moved to a nearby town- and she can’t see magic, so Kate isn’t quite sure how she can explain any of it to her!
Luke is being his handsome, but complex self; and there is a mysterious new dream man to contend with.

While I dislike love triangles, I am hopeful that the implied one in this series will be swiftly dealt with in the next book, because I do enjoy the characters and the journey. Rocco and Yolanda are amusing, and in his annoying way, so is Magnus (I especially loved Kate’s many descriptive names for him!).

This is an engaging, and over-the-top fantasy, which makes for a fun read. Those who have been fantasy lovers for years, might enjoy the retro-feel of this series, which despite being urban fantasy and paranormal women’s fiction (both quite modern genres), definitely reminds me of the humorous fantasy from the eighties and nineties due to that over-the-top style.
If you’re a paranormal women’s fiction fan, then you might get a laugh out of this take on the genre, and if you’re a fantasy fan in general, you may well enjoy this funny fantasy series just for the laughs.

3.75stars—THE HANGED MAN is the second instalment in HP Mallory’s contemporary adult DAUGHTER OF THE MOON paranormal , fantasy romance series. This is the continuing story of forty-five year old, divorcee and author Catherine ‘Kate’ Murray. THE HANGED MAN should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book one THE FOOL.

SOME BACKGROUND : Following the death of her estranged aunt Artemis, Catherine ‘Kate’ Murray inherited her aunt’s castle, a guardian named Magnus; a magician named Luke Montgomery; Rocco the talking goat; Yolanda the shrunken head, and the mantle of DAUGHTER OF THE MOON.

Told from first person perspective (Kate) THE HANGED MAN focuses on Kate’s self-defense training with Magnus, and learning to use the magic buried within but someone or something is targeting our story line heroine. From the tarot to hellhounds, ghosts and vampires, warlocks, magic and dreams, Kate soon discovers all is not well in the world of Daughter of the Moon, or within the castle that is now a part of her life.

THE HANGED MAN is a story of secrets and magic, power and control. The premise is captivating and intriguing; the characters are magical and interesting-there are a growing number of potential suitors for our story line heroine.

The Hanged Man by HP Mallory is the second book in the new Daughter of the Moon Series by HP Mallory. This series takes a writer from California and transplants her in Nowheresville, Vermont. An estranged aunt has passed and left Kate her “castle,” and Kate is still attempting to come to terms with the home and occupants. The property is clearly not a “castle,” and comes complete with paranormal baggage inhabiting the place.

The characters in The Hanged Man are fantastically written and fun to read. The book has it all, really. An eccentric aunt leaves Kate a house decorated with everything tarot. There is also a talking goat and a shrunken head.

After Kate doesn’t follow directions, the moon transforms her and provides her with her own hulking and massive guardian – who, by the way, won’t leave her alone for a second – challenging her sanity even farther than it’s already being challenged. Add in a magician, mysterious floating letters penned by the deceased, the mystery surrounding the Hanged Man tarot card, vividly realistic dreams, and her sex-crazed mother, and you have another wonderful PWF story.

I love everything HP writes. The Hanged Man is another great Paranormal Women’s Fiction (PWF) novel by this author.

After the lessons of the first tarot card Kate isn't really looking forward to figuring out the rest of her powers that she got from becoming a daughter of the moon. It seems like things are going from bad to worse for poor Kate. She is having dreams of a sexy man who is trapped in a garden, she is not sure if he is there to help her or hinder her. Magnus is trying to train her and then there is Luke who is helping her out and Rocco and Yolanda aren't helping matters any. Then to top it off Kate's mom has come to Vermont and well is wreaking havoc all over the place . Will anyone survive mom and will Kate figure out the hanged man tarot card before the Dark Coven come for her .
Kate and the gang are back and my oh my funnier then ever. Poor Kate she is having a tough time trying to wrap her head around all that is going on with her new life. We do get to see Kate grow a bit but she still comes off as a whiner through out the story Magnus is still as bossy as ever and well Luke is still as sweet and sexy. They are starting to grow deeper and more complex as characters through out the book, we also get to meet mom and man she is a whirlwind of insanity and child like behavior, lock up your sons , lock up your sons.
The second book in the series dives more into what it means to be a daughter of the moon and what Kate has to do to stay alive . The author takes us on a fun fueled ride. All I am going to say is poor Magnus. There are many giggle times through out the book not only from Rocco and Yolanda but also Kate's mom and her flamboyant way of life . So if you want a fun book this is the series for you check it out you will like it.

delirious with laughter

Kate is chosen as heiress for her auntArtemis’s estate, but it is so much more than just her aunt’s home. It also includes her magical heritage as Daughter of the moon, so Kate is having to wing it and figure out what that means since it comes with a lot of additional complications.

Like Magnus her ah, bodyguard from another dimension. And an ability to speak to the Tarot cards. There is also Luke the magician who also runs the local bookshop, who is helping her learn to use her new magic. And now her non magical mom has purchased a home 10 minutes away and adds a wholllle new level of complicated…did I mentioned her mom is a nudist? Who now has the hots for Magnus? Just, ewwwww.

There were points through the novel were I was delirious with laughter - it is divinely delicious and entertaining! HP Mallory is one of my fav writers for a reason, always enjoyable! A delightful novel and an absolutely worthwhile read

We start off where book one ended! Kate is still reeling from the attack of the evil hounds. She is trying to write the next three chapters of her book. Her mom comes to town…to live! Luke and her are still playing at trying to date. Magnus will have a new love interest. The goat and the shrunken head will still battle over words. It is time for a new adventure with a new card.

As she is reminded, it is about the journey, what you uncover, how you uncover it, and what you will reap at the end. This journey will be confusing for her, at first. As things come together, another interesting person shall join the frays. What it means exactly will be determined. Will Luke have a rival? What will her new found power be? Per usual, be prepared to roll while listening to the banter of this wonderful world!

I loved this book even more than the first one! The cast of characters is omgoodness hilarious! Kate, a middle-aged woman has inherited a crumbling castle, has become a celestial guardian called a Daughter of the Moon and trying to get a handle on all that entails, Magnus, her new grumpy bodyguard, Luke, a hot magician, a talking goat and now her crazy mom and a sexy, mysterious dreamscape man...whoa baby! I love the witty banter between Kate and Magnus, there are some LOL parts that had me snort-laughing! It's really interesting seeing coming into her own and trying to get a handle on her new powers and oh yeah her new bombshell body! I can't wait to see what happens to Kate and crew next!!

I was given a copy from the author (whom I love! thank you H.P.) and am leaving my review voluntarily

I am fairly new to this author, both as a single author and when writing with another, but I have really enjoyed everything I’ve read including this second book in this series. Poor Kate is pretty clueless about how all magic works, and she’s trying to figure out everything she can. Add in her interesting and determined (ahem) mother, she’s almost beside herself. This is a great addition to the series with madcap adventures, learning some more about Kate’s magic, and now a new character. Fun and well-written, I am ready for more. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Really enjoyed this second book in the Daughter of the Moon series. The Hanged Man left me questioning the way Kate did things or didn't do things. Lol. Things I thought were so simple for her to see turned out to not be that simple after all. I was surprised on how some things turned out for her, and oh so glad to not have a parent like hers. The book is fast paced, fun, and exciting. Can't wait to see what happens in the next part of the series. (This book was received as an ARC in exchange for a honest review)

Interesting to read about Kate’s second adventure/lesson. I found that she really did whine too much about what she cannot do or understand instead of just trying to figure things out. Now Grey was an interesting addition. I thought I knew him when she met him in her dream, but I was really surprised by what happened between her and Grey. I did not see that coming. Now Kate’s mom is a real character still not sure of what to make of her. I have already started the next story and looking forward to seeing some things get resolved.

Cute

Love how Kate has come in to her powers.....she has to dig deep within to solve the puzzles that bring her to the next level.of her power. I thought she was meant for Luke, but now Grey is in the picture. Looking forward to the next book. Wonder if she will ever redecorate the house

This is by far the funniest series Mallory has ever come up with! Kate and her wacky companions had me laughing out loud. Of course, there's a bit of a love triangle thing going on. It wouldn't be a Mallory book without some of that and just enough creepiness to keep the readers on edge. Can't wait for book 3!

I’m hooked! Couldn’t put it down!

I cannot wait to find out what happens next!

A woman in her forties, who inherits a castle and a talking goat…. Finds out magic is real.. and she has it… the fist storyline had me. This second book was better than the first. This one is faster paced and so hilarious! And I may have picked up a new word! Omg. Just try it!

The Hanged Man was not where I was expecting this story to go. But, that’s a good thing. I honestly enjoyed the build up to the ending. The next book should be very interesting.

I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.

Awesome

Quite an adventure. The snarky heroine and her guardian go thru some pretty hilarious situations. At times I couldn’t stop laughing. There are spooky elements as she navigates the next tarot card to earn her power. Extremely good story, can’t wait for the next one.

I enjoyed book 1 and had hopes for book 2. The story got pretty weird halfway through, and I worried. The weird was offset by a pretty surprising twist before the end. I'm interested to see what book 3 brings us.

interesting use of tarot

There’s a lot going on and a lot for Kate to learn, but she’s slowly getting there and it’s impossible to not follow her down the rabbit hole. And will her slow burning romance bloom in the next book - we are all waiting for something to happen!

What frequently happens is I like the first book in a paranormal series… meeting the characters and liking them, liking the story that’s light on witches, vampires, etc. Then in the next books everything becomes heavy with threats from the dark side … that just doesn’t appeal to me.

I'm enjoying this new series. Kate is new to her role as Daughter of the Moon and relies on her guardian and guide. Readers see new sides to both helpers in this second installment. I enjoyed the humor that her mother brings and am grateful she is not mine.
