Fellow Robert Vaughan followers, here is the third book in the Lucas Cain Series.
In "Ghost Coach," the third book of the Lucas Cain series, Robert Vaughan takes readers on another thrilling ride through the Wild West. The story picks up with Deputy U.S. Marshal Lucas Cain, haunted by the memories of the SULTANA riverboat disaster. His journey leads him to reunite with an old friend, Jim Barnes, whose life as a small rancher is upended by the theft of two hundred cows. Determined to right this wrong, Lucas sets out to recover the stolen herd, a mission that brings him face-to-face with the enigmatic Carolina McVey and the notorious outlaw leader, Rufus Marley. The narrative is rich with the elements that fans of the series have come to expect: a blend of action, suspense, and emotional depth. Vaughan's storytelling prowess shines as he delves into Lucas's internal struggles, from his lingering love for his late wife to his battle with the demons of his past. The appearance of the Ghost Coach, a stagecoach carrying dead passengers, adds a supernatural twist to the tale, heightening the stakes and driving the plot forward.
Vaughan's skill in character development is evident as he explores the complexities of Lucas Cain, portraying him as a man torn between duty and personal desires. The supporting characters are just as compelling, each contributing to the layers of intrigue and conflict that Lucas must navigate. The interactions between Lucas and Carolina McVey, in particular, provide a poignant look at the hardships of love and loyalty in a lawless land. "Ghost Coach" is a testament to Vaughan's ability to craft a Western that is both true to the genre and innovative in its approach. The book promises to be a gripping addition to the Lucas Cain saga, offering readers a story that is as haunting as it is enthralling. With a showdown looming and Lucas's courage put to the test, "Ghost Coach" is poised to be a standout novel that will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this classic Western adventure.
Ghost Coach keeps your interest from the start. Lucas Cain a U.S. Marshall working for no pay so he can collect the bounties on those he captures has the benefit of a lawman but can also collect bounties. Lucas is tracking several outlaw bands and later in the book an outlaw places a $1,000 bounty on Lucas. This gets printed in all the papers in the West and keeps the story interesting as many outlaws try to collect the bounty. Lucas lost his wife awhile ago and has no interest in women until he meets a lovely young lady on a train trip. The story has many varied incidents that keeps your interest from start to finish. I really liked the plot and look forward to many more books from Mr. Vaughn.
I am confounded by this novel. The author leads the reader into an interesting premise building up to a seemingly exciting showdown only to have it end. Their is no plot, no development of the characters and is rife with cheap violence. It seems that no opportunity to murder a child or woman, or both, is passed by. The violence in no way contributes to the plot but rather diminishes it. The writing is often good but it is if the writer decided to go in another direction and abruptly quits his train of thought. I do not understand what the writer was trying to do or why an editor would allow this story to be published. One is better off reading Louis Lamour or Max Brand for the 50th time. There more enjoyment to be found.
Disappointed that he couldn't change from being a rambling man
Someone has to rid the world of killers and it seems there is no end of evil. This series is full of heartache, taking murderers and thieves out of the public. The rambling man has become what he is. Recommended for adult readers who like to read about crimes and the taking down of those who commit then. Pretty graphic.
Lucas is a deputy U.S. Marshal and still collecting bounties. He helps a young lady escape from two cowboys with meanness on their minds. Lucas hunts down two ruthless gangs and almost decides to settle down, but he is a rambling man, with wandering ways and a job that does not permit a family life style.
A weak story line with violence and killing galore. How anyone can enjoy this writing with the slaughter of parents and there little daughter is beyond me. Gave up in this dribble more than halfway through. Don’t waste your time.
The author has written an excellent story of the old West and the ruthless men who spread hatred and death to innocent unprotected towns people. Very enjoyable reading.
This was another spectacular Book about Lucas Cain the Traveling Man and his travels! This whole Series is about as good as it gets and looking forward to several more. One thing as romantic, I wish in this book he would settle down with Caroline.
Lucas Cain apparently can't be killed, but all the bad guys can. Its sad in a way because even though he finds a woman he cares for he still has the wanderlust. You just wonder if that will ever change.
Very very good story. Great ending and quality build up to finish. Rambling man ever have a wife? Looking forward to Cain book#4. Want to see how this partnership works out?,,,lol
I read this story out of sequence, but was still a me to pick up on it. I definitely will look forward to reading the others in the series as I found the characters intriguing.
I have read several books by this author but this one is really bad. Lacking any realism what so ever. Looks like the first time attempt of a new writer.
