Norcross Security #9

Der Beschützer

Rate this book

I was waiting patiently for Camden’s book and it didn’t disappoint me.
Broken, ex military, ghost op hero Camden and ballerina, sweet but determined heroine Saskia doesn’t have much in common, but somehow they fit.
I loved the action scenes and the way their story unravelled. Also the Norcross gang scenes are always a joy to read.
Special thanks for the bonus epilogue. I’m Kinda sad to see this series end but the author assured some cameo in her upcoming series which I’m super excited about.
Killian ‘Steel’ Hawke I’m looking at you.

Standalone, KU and recommended.

This one was okay but felt a little too fast paced for me. There didn't seem to be any time where the characters could just be together in the middle of all the chaos. That's the vibe of this whole series and it's been fine in the previous books but this one just felt different to me. Like it was more about the action than the romance.

The Protector is the ninth book in the Norcross Security series, and what a series it is.

This protector is learning how to live outside this life in the military, where he has seen things no-one should see. When his tiny ballerina is in trouble he does what he can to keep her safe, even if it is from himself.

Sexy alpha men and women who protect what is theirs but don't think they deserve love. Finding that one person who brings them to their knees whilst fighting to protect them. There is action, power, angst, chemistry, intensity, suspense, mystery and so much more.

Anna Hackett should be someone on your TBR pile because she is good at what she does.

Promising idea- hot ex military dude has to save hot ballerina and they fall in love!!! But also no this was so bad yikes.

The writing was beyond corny, it was embarrassing. The guy just kept going on and on about how badass he was but also how damaged he was and how he couldn't loveee her because he has this DARKNESS inside him that she could never love. Despite you know, she was in love with him from the beginning for absolutely no reason.

They were basically just long distance penpal buddies, having met through their friends (and family idk there was like 30 couples and they were all related or something). So the romance ended up just not being interesting. It wasn't developed and it was so instalove. Not even instalust- no they went way too hard way too fast.

Her getting kidnapped and saved lasted like 3 minutes when I thought it'd be more of the book. Of course random goons keep coming after her, trying to make her some random mob boss sex slave while male main character growls at them and kills people with all his (and her) male friends and family coming to kick ass and stand around being threatening (but also hot ofc.)

It was honestly so funny how dramatic everything was??? I could imagine this being a really bad tv show with the worst actors ever born but they are hot so it gets renewed for 10+ seasons. (Literally how many books are in this series with the man having a slightly different profession but also still the same character while the woman has a job like collecting butterflies that she doesn't really have to do but it is her PASSION.)

But yes all of the dialogue was SO bad. The female mc would call her vagina her "lady parts" but then a page later they are having detailed sex in the bathroom. I feel like I was getting mixed signals here like with the way things were going I expected it to be some weird Christian wholesome thing in the beginning but nah they fucking.

It was honestly so gross how they don't even have the "damn maybe you should wear a condom or are you on birth control" conversation until after??? Right after they do it for the first time he's just like hmm btw didn't use protection I'm clean though!!! Ick.

Entire book was just going off about how amazing and brave members of the military are and I have nothing to say to this besides sick propaganda dude. PTSD was handled really badly in this but I'm not getting into that either. 💀

Quick(ish) Review

Book-specific: Ballerina FMC and veteran MMc who’s still adjusting to life after service, this is a decent end (or is it?) to the series, with a setup for a spinoff series that I’ll probably binge too.

Series review: I needed something to distract me from the blizzard that hit my hometown and this was perfect. I devoured the entire thing in the span of a week and a half. It’s a straightforward, romantic suspense series (think Kristen Ashley with less screwball comedy).

Each book goes like this: FMC is in danger, MMC steps in and says “you’re moving in with me until it’s over,” which means she’s never moving out and they’re falling in love, but one or both fight it a little, cue big dramatic moment where they realize life is short, HEA is triggered. The End. With lots o sex while in danger. This isn’t reinventing the wheel and I’m ok with that, though it’s also why I’m not rating this super high because it was predictable even if enjoyable. Also, ngl part of my need to tear through the series was to get to Vander’s book. In the end this whole series deals with certain tried and true - enemies to lovers, surprise pregnancy, even a bit of royal romance, but it’s the found family built and did I mean took the sex? Yeah that kept me coming back for more.

Four and a half
Wow this had a very dark theme running through it with kidnapping and human trafficking so kudos to the author for bringing this to a mainstream audience. I won't lie this definitely starts as it means to go on and poor Saskia really gets caught up in an absolutely horrendous situation but she's a fighter and refuses to just bow down and be abused. Luckily she's kept in touch with Cam but as much as he wants her Cam is so bogged down with angst, guilt and pain he is determined to lock up his feelings but with protective instincts like his there's no way he is not going to do everything to save Saskia !
Apparently the last in this series certainly for a little while and fans of the Norcross boys will certainly enjoy this instalment. Luckily the author has Saskias brother and his crew waiting in the wings so I'm expecting more delicious, action packed stories. Cam does get his happy ending and its such fun to read but obviously its not without very hairy moments but that's why we keep reading this authors work because it's always fun, fast and smouldering !
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Aaand that's another series finished!
While this wasn't one of my favorites, not by a long shot, I still enjoyed this for a quick read and as a palette cleanser so to speak, because romantic suspense has always been one of my weaknesses.

This was pretty much non-stop action. In fact, there was so much action that it was getting a little ridiculous at times. Saskia had to run from danger the entire time and when she settled somewhere for five minutes, the bad guys already found her. And when there was no action, they were having sex. (Not that I'm complaining about that lmao)
I also wasn't that impressed with Cam. One moment, he was too scarred and didn't want a relationship, and the next, he's getting all overprotective and realizes he loves her.

This was a nice ending to the series though, I feel like everything was tied up nicely!

Amazon / Paperback

Saskia and Cam's friendship is just that, a friendship, but Saskia can't help but long for more with the man who's so adamant at denying his feelings. Then something happens that triggers his fiercely protective instincts, and suddenly Cam's out to protect his woman. Wait a minute... HIS woman? He's not good enough or good for, her, so back to denying himself, and Saskia, what could be true happiness. If only he'd see himself the way she sees him.

Cam came back from deployment with nightmares and guilt that he can't get over. Even though he's struck up a friendship of sorts with the beautiful ballerina Saskia, he refuses to allow himself the chance of more. But when she's taken by the kind of evil he's all too familiar with, he has to rescue her, then protect her. Giving her more, though? Is he capable? He's still not sure until she gives him no choice. Now he just has to protect her until they can deal with the issue permanently. Then perhaps they can have the happiness he sees his brothers and coworkers enjoying.

The operatives of Norcross Security are just so...yummy when they fall in love. They're all fierce, protective badasses. Cam's no exception to this rule. Saskia is the perfect partner for him with her strength and determination, the sunshine to his broody, the gentle to his fierce, the dancer and the warrior. I can't wait for more Norcross, if Saskia's brother Killian is next to fall in love (even though he's technically not employed by Norcross), I'll be even happier!

Anna Hackett set a blistering pace in The Protector. It's also loaded with emotions and oodles of spice. Cam Morgan met Saskia Hawke at Savannah's art showing and hasn't been able to get her off his mind. He's not good enough or whole enough for the beautiful ballerina but that doesn't curb his desire for her. She sees them man behind the scar, the man trying to cope with having experienced the horrors of war, the man who she wants a relationship with. Unfortunately, a rich admirerer has set his sites on Saskia and despite several rescues the man keeps finding ways to get to her. Along the way Cam finally begins to truly live again and understands that he's allowed to be happy and in love. Cam, Vander, along with Saskia's brother Killian, are hellbent on taking this sex trafficker down no matter what it takes. The introduction of Killian Hawke sets up a new series spinoff perfectly. Can't wait to read it.

The Protector is Book Nine in the Norcross Security series by Anna Hackett. Ghost Ops soldier Camden Morgan recently retired from the military and is now working with Vander Norcross. One day, a friend of Camden Morgan, Saskia Hawke, disappeared, and he asked Vander Norcross for help. When Saskia escaped, they did not realise how obsessive her abductor was. When he tried to abduct her again, Camden needed to step up with the help of Vander Norcross and Saskia's brother to protect her. Readers of The Protector will continue to follow Saskia and Camden to discover what happens.

Reading this Book and seeing through Anna Hackett's eyes helped me start thinking about the issues that come up when you're obsessed with people and things. I engaged with this Book from the first page and kept reading to the end. I also like the way Anna Hackett describes the issues ex-military personnel face when they return from a mission that did not go well.

I love Anna Hackett's portrayal of her characters and their interactions throughout this Book. The Protector is well written and researched by Anna Hackett. I like Anna Hackett's descriptions of the settings of The Protector, which helped me imagine being part of the Book's plot.

I recommend this Book.

The Protector- Camden and Saskia

Everyone is worried about Camden. Fresh out of the military, now working for Norcross, all his friends and family check on him often..He has watched all his siblings find love but he doesn’t think he is enough or worry of a relationship.

Saskia is a ballet dancer and a friend of Savannah. So she has hung around the whole Norcross group a time or two. She is also the sister of Killian with Sentinel Security. She met Cam not too long ago and she found him beautiful from the start. They have struck up a friendship and talk about every night. So when Saskia finds herself in trouble, she puts out one last call..to Cam.

Another great read and sad it’s the last. All of these books have been fast paced and very entertaining. Look forward to seeing them in crossover series.

As I read through the series the more I got to know about Cam I just knew whoever he got together with was gonna be strong fierce and be just the person he needed. Saskia is that and then some. I enjoyed how their relationship grew and their chemistry was outstanding. She didn’t try to change him she just wanted him to be him and that shows on every page that Anna Hackett wrote. Sad to see this series end. Can’t wait for future glimpses of this gang.

I devoured Cam and Saskia’s story and so happy that Cam finally gets his HEA after everything he’s been through. These two were perfect for each other as they must fight to keep Saskia safe from a human trafficker. Lots of action throughout this book and as always, I love seeing the Norcross Security team and we also get to meet new characters from Sentinel Security. This was a great book to end this series and looking forward to reading the Sentinel Security series next.

Excellent close to the series. Saskia and Cam were just perfect. I really liked how Saskia wouldn't let Cam talk himself out of their blossoming relationship.

This book was perfect. I probably say the same thing about all of Anna's book , but it is just the truth. I love it. It was worth waking up earlier than usual and reading it before going to work.

This was a well written "goodbye" for now from the Norcross gang. This review contains what many would consider spoilers, so be prepared if you continue reading.

Cam and Saskia are perfect for each other. Cam being a man that believes he is too broken to deserve a woman, but not being able to stay away from Saskia even though he did try at first.
Saskia being the woman that understand his pain, and does not judge him or resents him when he tried to stay away from her at first. She just UNDERSTOOD him and made sure he knew he is exactly the type of men she wanted and needed it. Not one else.

Camden finally found his peace and his home, the moment, he stopped fighting his feelings for Saskia.

This book was full of action and love and of course, the badass members of Norcross Security.

I really liked the relationship between Camden and his brothers and how his mom reacted once she finally saw his son truly happy. She reminded me of Vander's mom once he got together with Brynn. A moment I really enjoyed.

Vander, of course, was part of the action. There is not Norcross without him being part of it.

This book left me SUPER excited about Sentinel Security. I will be waiting for Nick "Wolf" book in August. I really want to find out what happens with his little sister's best friend whose Killian thinks is another little sister for Wolf, but she obviously, is not a little sister for Wolf. :)

About Killian "Steel"... Let's just say Vander needs to watch out because Killian might steal his place. It looks like that man is more dangerous than any one could think of. An awesome surprise that I can't wait to hear more about. A feared ghost to many, a spy. Being honest, his book telling his story with his beautiful redhead spy who makes him crazy and get on his nerves, might be my new obsession. Since Anna clued us in about his possible love interest already, I am hoping that means he will be the star of the second book in Sentinel Security coming out in September.

Don't forget to read the short Prologue after reading the book. Vander might be a little bit in trouble with Brynn, in a funny way, of course. Poor Vander.

I recommend this book 100%. You will enjoy it.

Series: Norcross Security #9
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

One minute Saskia Hawke is dancing on stage, and the next she has been abducted by a very wealthy and powerful man who is determined to keep her. She is determined to escape, and hopes that Camden Morgan will come rescue her.

The final Morgan brother finally falls in love! I have been eagerly waiting for Cam’s book for a while now and I am so happy it's here. I loved every minute of Cam and Saskia’s story. Cam is still struggling to readjust to civilian life and suffers from survivor's guilt. He doesn’t believe he is good enough for any woman, but especially Saskia. I really enjoyed seeing Cam heal a little and open up to love.

“I will only ever see the hero, even if he’s a little battered and dinged.”

Saskia is a dedicated ballerina. She is determined, strong willed, and extremely compassionate about Cam’s struggles. She is a true friend to Cam and lets him set the pace of their relationship for a long time. The kidnapping accelerated things and it makes them both realize how much they want each other, and how quickly it can be taken away. Saskia was just a wonderful heroine who was the perfect partner for Camden.

“When you dance, you bring emotion to life and bring beauty into the world. That’s your gift. Mine’s to fight, to kill, to protect.”

These two’s relationship was filled with a lot of action, tension, and a lot of intense kisses. It was just the perfect blend for me. I am a bit sad that this is the last Norcross personnel to fall in love but it's been a great journey. I also can’t wait to learn more about Killian and the Sentinel Security team!

Trigger warnings: kidnapping, survivors guilt, death of a friend referenced, PTSD, death of a parent by overdose referenced.

I read all the books in the Norcross series last year sometime, but the blurb for this one did not speak to me, so I skipped it. However, the book appeared on my Recommended Reads list recently, and I decided to give it a try. Suffice to say that my first instinct—to not read Cam and Saskia’s story—was spot-on. It’s not that the writing was bad, with Anna Hackett it never is, but I had a problem with a few things.

The Protector is the ninth and final book in Anna Hackett’s Norcross series. It tells the story of Cam (one of the Morgan brothers) and Saskia, sister to Killian Hawke of the Sentinal Protector books (loved that series!). Cam is newly released from the military and is struggling with PTSD. Because of this, and although he has feelings for Saskia, he believes that he is not ready to let a woman into his life, so he constantly pushes her away—that does not stop him from starting a telephonic “friendship” with her though. The two of them have been chatting platonically for months, but that changes when Saskia—a ballerina—gets kidnapped following a performance at a private venue. Unfortunately, a creepy billionaire has set his sights on Saskia and, being used to getting what he wants, he orders his goons to kidnap her. During the act, Saskia manages to call Cam but does not get a chance to say much before one of the kidnappers smashes her phone. The call, however, alerts Cam to the fact that something is wrong, and with assistance from the Norcross and Sentinal teams, Cam goes on the hunt for Saskia and her kidnappers. The team manages to rescue Saskia, but the creepy billionaire is not done with her yet, and the team must pull out all stops to stay one step ahead while trying to trap the creep at the same time.

As is the norm with Anna Hackett books, the storytelling was up there with the best of them and the writing good. The action and suspense kept me glued to my Kindle, making The Protector an entertaining read. I liked that the author did not drag Cam’s “I don’t deserve her” rhetoric on for too long because that line gets tired after the first few books. And I liked Cam and Saskia’s story and personalities in principle but had few issues with the plot and some of their actions and thoughts—some things just did not sit well with me.

Let’s start with my biggest gripe: I find the FMC doing all the chasing in poor taste. Cam did not feel ready for a relationship, and this is something he communicated to Saskia repeatedly, and what did Saskia do? She threw herself at Cam at every opportunity. First, there was the scenario following the kidnapping incident … Her best friend (Savannah) wanted her to go home with her, but Saskia insisted that she wanted to stay at Cam’s place, and this when Cam didn’t even make the offer—she literally clung to him despite knowing that a relationship was out of the question. Cam initially kept on pushing her away, but that did not deter her. She was continuously touching him, kissing him, showing off her dance moves to him. Saskia was the first to declare her love ,TWICE (note: Cam did not reciprocate both times), the first to “order” him not to get hurt because they were going to get married, buy a house, and have a few babies together (this despite no declaration of love from Cam). Oh, she also jumped the gun and asked Cam to marry her before he could pop the question. I’m sorry, but when it comes to romance, I prefer the man to do the chasing. When authors place this burden on the FMC, they just paint her as easy, desperate, and lacking self-respect (especially if the MMC pushes back as hard as CAM did). Having said that, and although he was not certain if what he was feeling was love, Cam dropped the “I don’t deserve her” nonsense soon enough.

I like this author’s writing, but there were two scenarios that really rubbed me off the wrong way while reading the book. So, we know that Saskia was a ballerina (something that got hyped up quite a bit in this book), and as is the nature of the beast, ballerinas are quite flexible. In this one scene, and to impress a 5-year-old girl, Saskia did a split standing up. Saxon, the same Saxon who fell in love with and was engaged to Gia (Vander’s sister), looked at her “oddly” and commented on what a lucky guy Cam was. I was like: What? I’ve read Saxon and Gia’s book, and Gia was supposedly the love of his life, so WTF is going on here? Could another “single” guy not have been used to hype up Saskia’s “skills”? But that’s not all ... Next, Killian’s future love interest made an appearance and, after a “discussion” with Killian, she turned around and walked off. So, this was Cam’s POV in this scene: “Cam was in love with Saskia, but only a dead man wouldn’t appreciate that view.” Why include this? And again, WTF? I don’t get what the author was trying to do here, but I have strong feelings about MMCs ogling other women in a romance that is supposed to be about him and a specific FMC. Not only does it make me question the concept of “she’s the one”, but it also allows reality to sneak in and remind me that, yes, some men are like that. I don’t need such reminders in a romance novel, please and thank you.

Other irritants included the constant unprotected s€x between the MMC and FMC when they were not even sure where the relationship was going. The first time it happened was understandable, but not the times following that one. In one scene, Cam also miraculously found a condom in his bathroom drawer when—by his own admission—he had not had s€xual relations in fifteen months, he only moved into the place a few months ago, and he was not interested in s€x because of his PTSD. Why did he have condoms in his house, then? And what was the point when they managed without it in every second spicy scene? There were other plot holes as well: Cam deciding to “again” tell Saskia that he loved her when those words never crossed his lips prior to that thought, and Cam “knowing” that Mikhailov was usually well put together when he never laid eyes on the man prior to their confrontation. Also, the near-virgin trope—Saskia not being on birth control because she never “needed” it—was alluded to but luckily not in your face.

I like most of Anna Hackett’s books, but this one unfortunately did not speak to me. I will continue reading her books, though, because the writing and storytelling is really good.

I'm not going to lie, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Norcross Security series, and I definitely kick myself for coming so late to this party since it's totally my jam. Saskia is a ballerina so beautiful that after performing one night, she's kidnapped by an evil man who gets whatever or whoever he wants no matter what it takes like kidnapping. She's friends with Cam, who has some very real demons that dog his every step, so he believes he'll never be good enough for this beautiful ballerina. I loved how Saskia is whatever Cam needs, and despite his issues, fate is going to intervene. Saskia has no doubt that Cam will rescue her, and man, her being kidnapped lit a fire in him so he will stop at nothing to rescue her, and he does, but the danger isn't over because that evil man isn't about to give up making Saskia his. The angst did my emotions in, the danger made for twists coming in hot, and the journey to love was definitely bumpy as Cam would fight with everything in him to push Saskia away even with the sparks flying so yeah, this story was intense & I never wanted it to end! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I love this action packed series! It’s never a dull moment when reading one of these books. Saskia is a ballerina and she has a very evil man after her. Cam still has the scars and emotional baggage from his time in the military. He knew he liked Saskia but didn’t feel like he was ready to pursue her. When she finds herself in danger he does everything he can to protect her and keep her safe. Once he gets her back he knew who she belonged to. This was a great fast paced emotional, action packed story. I love This group of friends/work associates they have each other’s backs no matter what. I’m already looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

eh...
this one was definitely the worst one in the series and there was honestly a bunch of factors and reasons as to why
I saw absolutely 0 teasers or ads of any kinds from even her newsletter apart from a cover reveal that was just like a hey here you go
the plot was also just kind of eh and way way WAY too fast like the FMC is just a tiny lil dancer aint no way she can pick a lock but I am very excited for Hex and her new series so yea
they also just threw in that they had been talking for some time but you could NOT tell i dont think i can even really consider this friends to lovers it was just like oh ur cute wanna date

This can be enjoyed as a stand-alone, but it is even better when the series is read in order. An exciting story with lots of action, humor, twists, wonderful characters, and steamy romance. Cameron and Saskia were amazing together and got their HEA.

I liked this book and most of the others I've read in the series. Bodyguard romances are my favorite sub-genre and Anna Hackett manages to write them exactly the way I like. With the hero being protective and alpha and desperately, unceasingly drawn to protect his woman, and a heroine who is NOT a total idiot who keeps willfully putting herself in danger just to make the plot happen and who can stand up and fight beside her man.

All in all, I thought this was really solid. Aside from Saskia's one attempt to run off on her own "for Cam's protection" she was mostly a smart heroine. The threats to her were real and kept the stakes high. Cam's burning desire for her was well done and believable. I did feel like his backstory was a bit weak though. The demons of his past were only vaguely alluded to and didn't feel real enough to justify his unshakeable belief that he couldn't be with this woman he so clearly loved. But overall, still a good story

For a ballerina in the line of fire, the only man who can keep her safe is a scarred, battle-hardened soldier.

One minute Saskia Hawke is dancing on stage, and the next she’s been abducted by a very wealthy, very powerful man with connections. Whisked away to a country estate, she’ll do anything to escape, and prays the former soldier she can’t stop thinking about will come to rescue her.

What she doesn’t know is that her disappearance will light a protective fury inside Camden Morgan, and he’ll tear down the country to find her.

After a final mission leaves former Ghost Ops soldier Camden Morgan injured, scarred, and riddled with guilt, he comes home to San Francisco. Surrounded by his family and working at Norcross Security, he still can’t settle. He definitely knows he’s too broken to offer anything to the beautiful, raven-haired Saskia.

When she goes missing, Cam knows something is very wrong. He’s the man with the right skill set to bring her home, even as he knows he must protect her from himself and push her away.

But saving Saskia is just the beginning, as her abductor isn’t letting go of his obsession. Cam must go all in, be the protector Saskia needs, and risk his scarred heart. With the help of his brothers and Norcross Security, not to mention Saskia’s dangerous brother and his team, they’ll put everything on the line. And for Saskia, she’ll fight with everything she has to survive…and to prove to Cam that he’s capable and worthy of love.

Will he realize in time she is the cure to his nightmares…

Oh my!
What a rollercoaster ride this story is.
Not a slowing moment, only action following action, whatever with bullets flying or between the sheets.
From the first pages which shows Saskia being kidnapped to the last rescue scene, I was on edge, turning page after page as fast as I could digest the words.
Saskia is no amazon girl but she stands her ground and never backdown, years of discipline due to ballet dancing taught her resilience, perseverance and la mind of steel.
Camden came back to his country in a bad place, wallowing in his survivor’s guilt. So much, even if they click all the boxes, he is unable to let Saskia in. A distant friendship is all he believe he has to offer.

But when the woman who haunts his dreams is harmed and threatened, can he stay in the shadows and let her go.

Impossible to tell more without spoiling the fun of reading this book. Just be forewarned, be sure you are sorted out for the day or putting this book down will be hard when you will be high on a action packed scene.

The Protector is the ninth book in the Norcross Security series by Anna Hackett. This is an intriguing romantic suspense with a swoony former ghost ops soldier now turned security operative MMC, ballerina FMC, abduction, spice, tension, drama, danger, emotion, mystery, and more.
