The magical realm cocooning the earth is filled with mysteries and wonders beyond anything I could’ve imagined. The kind of things that make my inner scientist squeal at the possibilities.
But there’s a darker side to that beauty…
And somehow, I’m the go-to girl for the realm between worlds. Why? Because I’m one of the few people to walk between worlds and not spontaneously combust?
That’s a pretty low bar.
But as I investigate, I find the things that dwell in the Akasha are old. And hungry. And should never be woken.
Go up and hit “Read for Free” or “Buy Now” and get ready to cheer for the science geek Magi from Boston!
…When I suddenly burst into loud, uncontrollable laughter and my neighbors give me funny looks.
This next story arc is very strong and severe. There’s a tension slowly building from the first chapter forward, and it doesn’t let up until the final three sentences. Two little words is all it takes and every bit of tension simply melts away, and I defy you, when you pick this book up (as you must, lol), not to literally laugh out loud when reach the end.
It’s masterful. Really. The perfect counterpoint to the long slow build of tension.
If you haven’t read the first three books, don’t worry. This is a great place to jump in and you won’t regret it. Personally, I had meant to re-read the first three before this came out, but my TBR list is way too deep and I never did. Having forgotten a great bit of the detail, I really appreciated the way Ava grounded this new narrative, without once going through one of those laborious rehearsals of what has gone before that so many authors love to use and I really don’t enjoy reading. For example, a large part of the first trilogy was devoted to Scarlet’s relationship with her family. Rather than summarizing or repeating all of those details, Ava uses a very simple scene to illustrate how it all fits together
Ash and Bastian are starting to settle from their last adventure when things start to shake up again. There is a big explosion in the magic realm and Dragon wants her to check it out. Now weird things are going on in her dreams and she needs to chase down some anchors keeping some bad people prisoners. I love all the characters in this series and am so glad the authors decided to continue with another trilogy. I can't wait for the next books.
The first book was slow to start, but it hit better. The third book was great! Now we have a new plot line, new characters, and Ash is getting the hang of it. As a fellow scientist, I love Ash’s approach. Itching to take notes to help her solve problems is a total scientific method thing. Now we have a new plot arch and it is so much fun. Definitely worth a read if you like world building
She may have saved the world once already, but she is still struggling getting a firm grasp of her magic. The betrayal she felt when the council were rescued is still causing a rift between Ash and Cornelius. What and who can she rely on? I really enjoyed this story, if you haven’t read these books, you really should.
Loved the concept of the void vs the Akasha (creative energies). Not exactly dark vs light, especially when the characters embodying these energies (or lack of in the void) care for each other. I appreciate the evolving relationships between Ash and Bastian the other Magis and the role of the “Dragon”. Great story! Looking forward to the next book!
Veiled Threats, book four of the Boston Magi Chronicles series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Better and better, the whole concept around a science-trained mage is fresh and layered. Highly recommend this series to readers who want an intelligent female character with an interesting take on magic.
I found this book after finishing chronicles of an urban druid and it was perfect. It had the characters and the action i needed to fall in love all over again. The FMC Aisling is a secret badass disguised as a clumsy disaster and im here for it lol. Bastian is perfection and i love her moody roommate :) no spoilers tho aha i seriously want my own Percy 💙
I love, love, love this series. I've never written a review before
but just had to say something. I recommend this series for anyone who loves mystical, fantasy, and a whole lot of snarky comedy. I give 5 stars to this whole series.
Ok, I think the title of my review says it all. The characters are amazing the world build is grand. I just need a trip to the Akasha and I'd be a happy monkey. Can't wait for the next book ladies. You both rock. 🤘
The adventures just keep getting more interesting and the team is getting more beat up. Amazing writing and storytelling of lovable characters. Love Percy. Keep them coming. Happy reading All.
I have been enjoying reading this series. The authors have done an amazing job of world building and have me eagerly turning the pages to see what happens next. The characters are all believable. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
The story was just as good as previous ones, but I’ve noticed that every story has the same phrases in it. It would be nice to describe something differently one time.
I like the story concept and the characters but I found myself skimming over the banter to get to the meat, which is lacking. The potential is there but just not developed enough. The ‘ending’ was just lame.
