Scotland Craig had an easy and somewhat privileged life, until she traded it all in for the love of a thug. The sheltered beauty had no idea what she signed up for, finding herself trapped in a loveless and abusive relationship years later, and with no one to turn to. Isolated from family and friends because of the one man she thought would be her happy ever after, Scotland is depressed, broke, and a shell of the woman she used to be. But when her man does the unthinkable, it is the last straw, causing Scotland to make a huge gamble in the name of revenge. But when that retaliation follows her home, adding yet another problem to her already hefty plate, Scotland must figure a way out of the hell she now calls life. And when a sexy gangsta enters her world, reaching a hand out to save her, she is tempted to take it, not realizing he's close to everything she feels is ruining her life.
Lequay Compton, the laid back, handsome and charming gangsta has only ever had love for the almighty dollar. With multiple successful businesses and an impenetrable drug empire, money literally ain’t a thing. Women have always been an afterthought and something to enjoy when he has the time, so long as it doesn’t interfere with his cash. This is much to the chagrin of his close homegirl, waiting in the shadows for their friends to lovers story to commence. However, when Lequay has two chance encounters with the same woman, unknowingly, he finds himself drawn to her or them, no matter how many curve balls are thrown his way; the biggest one being his lack of freedom. Always determined and never one to quit, Lequay is steadfast in his attempts to make a seemingly unattainable woman attainable.
But when he and Scotland finally figure out just who they are to one another, things take a turn for the better and the worse... for some.
In this story filled with secrets, twists, and good black love, you will witness the undeniable bond between two people who fated to be together. And how nothing or no one, not even themselves, can keep them apart.
*This book is a standalone, however it is connected to "The Marriage Favor" & "Wait For U"*
Well Well Well what do we have here?! A hit that’s what we have!! Big Quay not the little one showed up and showed out in this boooooooook!!!! 🗣️YOU YO DADDY SON!!! And I ain’t talking about Davonte b*tch ass. Prime definitely primed LaQuay to take over and become the king of his own kingdom and he really made a name for himself. He reminded me so much of Prime (in a good way) that you couldn’t convince me that he didn’t come from his nut sack. And while this ain’t Prime’s book, can we just bask in the glory of how he is fathering these men while loving their mama. He really showed up for them and will always be THAT N*GGA!!!....... Ok back to LaQuay, the second oldest Compton son and so far, my favorite!
Khari’s book ended with LaQuay’s arrest and one thing that he is not is sloppy. It’s clear to everyone that truly knows him, that he was set up and the time he had to sit down forced him to stew in the fact that someone had hell to pay upon his release…. But who?! (I low key knew it was going to be who it was but didn’t quite catch on to the motive until it was revealed 🤦🏽♀️🙄)
The book came out the gate swinging when Scotland became privy to fools not being who they claimed to be and her cheating abuser played in her face yet again!! Baby!!!! Where are the hot grits?! Because the way I would have showed out would’ve had everyone’s head spinning. Scotland lived the past 7 years in misery and after going against her family all in the name of “love” she was alienated from everyone and subjected to physical, mental, emotional and financial abuse.
Looking to get back at Art after he played in her face for the last time, she finds herself propositioned at a hotel bar and lets just say it was the best yes she could’ve ever let leave her lips. I loved MOSTLY everything about this book LOL! (see below) but the highlight was LaQuay being a say less type of man. He was not fkn around and if the words left his lips you could stand on it whether it was providing and protecting Scotland to making someone a segment on the nightly news. He was less talk and more action and I have zero complaints about him.
Shvonne, you will NOT make me believe that Shakur’s love interest is who you tried to force down our throats because no ma’am! The heaux shouldn’t even still be alive. The ass whoopin was an appetizer after the way she would not disappear like a roach that just had babies!! 🗣️SOMEBODY GET THE RAID!
Weren’t Couture and Scotland on the same timeline?! 🤔🥴The math ain’t mathing!!
I’m on the fence about Nairobi and what happened to her because I feel like Teyaira was more of a problem than her. They should’ve traded places.
I’m looking forward to Shakur’s book and cant wait to see what he brings to the series (because Shvonne 🗣️these aren’t standalones!!!!) but just know that we will not accept this heffa AT ALL!!
Yup, the silent killers always do it for me. The love tale between LaQuay and Scotland was interesting. It was nice to read about a strong female character. She vowed to herself that she would never live irresponsibly again after her experience with Artist. Amidst the misery that Artist has inflicted upon Scotland, she musters the courage to get back for this poisonous and violent relationship through a one-night stand. Unbeknownst to her, she has an affair with Quay, and their story unfolds from there. What made their story so interesting was how different it was. One thing about these Compton boys is they will apply pressure and even in jail he was showing Scotland more than she ever had with Artist. You can be sure that Shvonne will not create a story unless there is a deluded woman in it, and Teyaira is most certainly that. I'm still not understanding what Shakur sees in her brother hopping ass but hopefully, in the next book, that relationship is dead.
I will say out of the series this is my favorite. I know for the rest of the series we are in for a ride and it only gonna get crazier from here.
Imagine being in a relationship with an abusive loser that you catch cheating on you with his cousin - only it’s not his cousin. He had his side chick living with y’all the whole time & basically forces you into accepting that she’s his woman too 😳 Art was trash. 🚮 To get even, Scotland decides to have a one night stand but forms an instant connection with the guy. Her and LeQuay connecting was a wild coincidence but they would say it was just meant to be 🤷🏾♀️
Teyaira was my least favorite character. Quay told her in every way that he didn’t want her, yet she kept coming around like an annoying gnat. Couldn’t stand her and honestly, she got off way too easy. I do not understand her and Shakur…out of all the things she’s done with his brother why do you want her, sir? I’m just not into it. I would have loved to have Bashar’s story next because I know Nixi is going to take us (and him) on a ride.

They say it doesn't take much for a man to know when he has found his one. That was definitely the case for LaQuay. He felt an immediate pull for Scotland even before he knew who she really was. It was even stronger the second time they unknowingly interacted. I loved how LaQuay moved. I'm not a fan of fboys, but I LOVE an honest man. He was very clear on who and what he wanted. The way he just told Art what it was, sent me. Also Despite the noise that was Teyaira's aggy azz he kept right on moving with love and intention even before he could speak on his feelings.
Scotland had landed herself in the most fkd up relationship and didn't see a way out. One "brave" night left her with way more than she bargained for. It felt like the obstacles that kept coming were to lead her right to the love that was meant for her...in LaQuay's arms. I loved his evolution...how he became more vulnerable, loving, and even soft for Scotland. You could tell he was at peace with her. I need to be invited to the wedding!
I enjoyed this story, but I don't understand Shakur's infatuation with the consolation prize heaux Teyaira. She was so damn annoying and conniving idk how she even made it to the end of the book. I'm not looking forward to reading about her. Every time she came on the page I wondered why my eyes were being subjected to her dumb azz. Sigh lmao anyway it was a good read.
Big Quay!! I've been waiting on this one and this book did not disappoint! Scotland and Lequay were love at first sight moment and love is blind moment with their second encounter. ( Just under 50% of the book love was truly blind for them!) once the blinders were off Lequay made it his mission to not let anyone get in between them and he meant that! RIP to the foolish ones who tried it lol! Teiyara is so desperate and I'm pissed at who she is trying to sink her claws into next smh. The next book should be interesting to see and the build-up of the other brothers is also interesting in the background. Looking forward to reading the next installment!
Also please be advised this series has SA described on page and violence described on page. Be safe reading and check out the Trigger Warnings at the beginning of the book in the Author's Note!
I wonder if this one will be my favorite. Lequay x Scotland
Brave is such a cute name. 💙
Teyaira was wayyy too desperate and delusional. She worked every nerve I have 😒🙄 Nairobi is beyond dusty and trifling for leaving her child behind all the dang time chasing behind men.
LeQuay and Scotland initially meet for a fun time but time goes by and there path does not cross again til Scotlands ain’t shit bf Art gets locked. Scotland and LeQuay form a friendship through late night phone calls. Tey was beyond delusional that girl didn’t get any common sense until she got it knocked into her 🤣🤣. I’m glad all the snakes got theres and no one was spared. As much as I want to say I look forward to Shakurs book I HATE his love interest and I can already predict what will happen. Also, why is Bashar and Nixi still together when we all know she’s crazy. I can’t wait to see why Bashar is staying with her after everything she’s put him through
The way I ate them 481 pages up today! This book started with a bang and ended with a bang! I didn’t think any of the brothers could top Khari but lequay was that ninja. I was blushing so hard as I watched Lequay and Scotland fall in love. It was fate and there was no mistaking it. Every book in this series (non series) gets better and better.
Loved Lequay and Scotland so much. Them falling in love was so cute and it just felt right. I won’t lie I had no idea where this book was going in the beginning but I’m glad I just sat back and enjoyed the ride. Hate Tey real bad, like girl STAND UP and she’s just not that smart. Scotland handled her perfectly. Lequay getting active was GREAT…..that man does not play and I like that. He’s definitely my favorite brother for now, I can’t see any of the other FMC’s dethroning Scoti…..I love her REAL BAD. I do think she forgave her family too quickly, they needed to earn her back. Especially her father. I can’t wait to get into Shakur’s book even though he already making bad decisions 🙄🙄🙄
Listen, I’ve been hearing amazing things about LeQuay, and let me tell yall he did not disappoint. Had me ready to go find a pen pal the way he was checking everyone about her. 😂That man has serious BDE. If your man’s not stepping behind you like LeQuay, is he really your man?🤭
Now, my girl Scotland she held her own, but I felt so bad for her in the beginning. Being with that controlling man? The way he treated her was wild, and the fact she was unknowingly in a poly relationship? I was ready to pull up myself.
And don’t even get me started on Nairobi she was straight-up trifling and got exactly what she deserved. As for Teyaira? Whew. Her messy self had me ready to dog walk her from Texas to California. I’m not looking forward to hearing more about her.😒
This installment of the series is probably what I most had in mind when I started this series- a hero who’s bad to everyone else but good to the heroine. Of the brothers, Lequay has long been my favourite and I was happy to see him end up with a heroine I actually liked (despite some questionable decision-making) despite the really messy start to their book. I still think there are a lot of problematic elements to this book (even considering this sub-genre of romance). For one, the homophobic/lesbophobic undertones at a couple of points weren’t super necessary and added nothing to the book, and the act that Lequay requests Teiyara perform in the first chapter knowing that she would not be comfortable with it but that she would feel emotionally compelled to do it smacked of a manipulation and kind of SA that should have been beneath him as a character. I also found him a little overly gun happy.
I was not at all happy about the direction with Shakur, who’s another favorite of mine in this series. The author began a redemption arc for Teiyara but she really did too much for it to have really taken off in this book.
This series is odd for me in that I don’t love the books but I love how captivating the author’s writing is and how locked in I get into these stories even as I yell at the characters and wonder why I’m reading such toxic love stories
Did I eat up all 480 pages of this book? Absolutely!! Lequay Compton was everything. He oozed BDE and a confidence like no other. The way he and Scotland met was interesting but I liked that they got to bond and truly get to know each other. For the most part their relationship was unproblematic and I appreciated that. Teyaira irked me so much- I understood why she was hurt but if a man consistently tells you he doesn’t want you please move on!! Like girl. 🥴
LISTEN HEREEEEEEE! Lequay is that 🥷 OK! He is definitely my favorite Compton man so far and is gon be a tough act to follow! I ATEEEEEEEE this book up over a span of about 30 hours! He did my girl Scotland so GOOOOD! And he was heavy on touch, talk, look, hell breathe on her and DIE! 🥰 a possessive MMC gon get me EVERYTIMEEEEE! 😜
Laquay Compton is my favorite Compton… whewwww baby! That man was everythinggggggg!!! And he did not play about his. It’s those quiet ones you gotta watch out for lol.
Lequay definitely proved he’s that ninja no question about it! My heart went out to Scotland. She deserved real love and peace, and I’m so glad she finally got it. Scotland’s family though straight-up trash. Art and Nairobi got exactly what was coming to them, and I was here for it. As for Teyaira... whew. She still hasn’t gotten what she deserves, but I’m hoping the next book delivers, because I can’t stand her! I truly enjoyed Lequay and Scotland’s story. As of right now it’s Prime, Lequay, Khari
Love Letters From a Gangsta (Crenshaw Kings Book 3) by Shvonne Latrice is about gangsta Lequay Compton and nail tech Scotland Craig. This standalone series is a page turner! From the moment I read The Marriage Favour, I was ready for all of the son’s stories. I loved Khari but damn if his younger brother don’t got him beat!! Y’all Lequay is my man, my man, my man! Thank you to my man! Whew the energy of this man 🫦✨ The way Lequay and Scotland meet is fun, got me thinking you might find your soul mate by getting your lick back 🤔😭 The second time they “meet” is crazy and kismet. Lequay is a man of action! He plays no games when it comes to Scotland. The communication between Scotland and Lequay is everything! This man is on her line every night, writing her letters daily but it’s not lip service, although his lips are very good at servicing 😉 They talk about everything, nothing is off limits, no miscommunication trope here!! Lequay stands on business every time! I got all the warm fuzzy feelings from these two but there was also DRAMA! Lequay’s homegirl is ridiculous, the girl couldn’t take a hint (Desperado until the end and then some 😒). Scotland’s ex aka BIG CAP 🧢, absolute trash, he doesn’t have one redeeming quality. Scotland’s parents and brother 😒 I’m not feeling very forgiving. Thank God for Lequay’s family cause Scotland’s don’t know the meaning of family. I’m being purposely vague about the plot because I want y’all to go into it blind like me! It makes for a very exciting and enjoyable read. I started reading this book last night and could not put it down!! Love Letters From a Gangster rightfully took its place as one of my top reads of the year 👏🏽
P.s. Shakur need his behind beat cause he’s very unserious, way too many fish in the sea to be moving like that 🤢 I hope he fixes up expeditiously!
CW- mentions of domestic abuse, mentions rape, murder
This book was so good Lequay wasn’t what I was expecting and it was better than what I expected. Scotland was such a humbling soul and I can definitely relate to her. All the things she’s been through she’s so strong for that. Nobody she should have to go what she went through. Teyaira I didn’t like her at first but towards the end during the baby shower I started to feel bad for her she realized to late that she was crazy asf over this man but I I really don’t want her to end up with Shakur I’ve been waiting for him.
I didn’t realize until late this was a series about all the siblings I would have not read it. I don’t like unfinished series I’m gonna move on then when the rest of the books come out I probably won’t read it.
This book has become my absolute favorite, surpassing Lisara & Prime story. Scotland & Lequay's story is truly special, and their destined connection resonated with me. Despite Scotland's challenging past with Art, Lequay stepped in and made sure nobody disrespects Scotland. All the Compton men intense love and protective nature is so sexy. It’s giving very much "touch her and die" energy that I thoroughly enjoyed.
This book had me up until 3AM! I finally gave in and read Love Letters from a Gangsta on Kindle Unlimited after holding out for the physical copies, and I should’ve read it sooner. Lequay is the definition of a protective, ride for you kind of man, and the way he loved Scotland was out loud, intentionally, and with his whole chest. Scotland deserved every bit of that love after all she’d been through. I’m officially obsessed and ready for the rest of the Compton crew!
3.5 ⭐️ Scotland and Lequay, now that is a good "how I met your father" story. I love a good ole unhinged step daddy. Lequay don't play but he really don't play about Scotland. Teyaira was a complete cuckoo bird! They aren't my favorite story but I enjoyed them nonetheless.
Lequay stood on businesssssss and majority of the time while behind bars. Had my boy writing love letters and everything lol. He is definitely my fav so far.
This book roped me in and wouldn’t let me go! Shvonne Latrice gave us another well written, exciting book that flowed well, kept my attention and is definitely a hit! Lequay showed up and showed out. His love for Scotland was unparalleled to anything that I’ve read lately. They loved each other hard. Now, Teyaira was a different story. I can’t wait to read Shakur’s story. You deserve a chef’s kiss Ms. Latrice.
