This is a touching and funny story but, more than that it is very enthralling. Colby is adorbs.

My brother always wanted to have one pet, specially puppy, who he can trained well and can enjoy his time with. When he was in middle-grade he once got Beagle for us but as he couldn't care much due to his own studies, we have to give it to some other family who cared well for that puppy, as winters were very harsh that year and that small cutie face whose even eyes were not opened well, need much-much care. We really don't want him to suffer. Now we have Great Dane. It reaches 6.6fts. when it stand tall by putting its 2 front legs on my shoulders.

Coming back to Colby's stories as been told in this book, I really like the way Shanley described this puppy. Way of telling stories by a father to his daughter was an endearing concept. I liked the adventures of a family with their pet as much as Ava liked in this book when Rob told her all about Colby as her bedtime story. Initially, I thought why there was no induction of the puppy's breed but I appreciate how in next chapter author told that too. I think, I too, if ever, always wanted a Husky.

Such stories, be it in a book or in movies, always had me amazed, where this flashback POV chosen to tell the tale. Shanley is a good story-teller and I suggest he should continue on his trail with varied topics. Looking forward to read more adventures of Colby in this series.

As someone who has never had a pet, but yearned for one when I was little, this story was heartwarming and would make a wonderful bedtime story to read aloud to a child. I particularly enjoyed the author’s writing style and perspective, of a father telling her daughter stories of his beloved pets when he was young. The words were soothing in a way and the story flowed nicely. I felt that the story was simply written, easy to follow, and created a gentle anticipation of the scenes ahead. I am so thankful to the author for sharing this copy with me - it was such a pleasure to read.

In this first book in the Colby series, the adventures of Colby, a rescue puppy, are told as bedtime stories by a father reminiscing about his childhood pet to his young daughter, who insists on a new story each night. The tales are cute and heart-warming and focus on happy childhood memories and the delightful antics of pets. They also include subtle lessons on the care of dogs and educate children on the distinctive characteristics of different breeds.
These are well-written stories, perfect for children’s bedtime.

nice

This is a nice chapter book, fairly short, that tells the story of adopting a new puppy and some early adventures. It has questions and activities at the end that make it great for homeschooling or school use.

This is sequel to Colby: Adventures of a Rescued Puppy.

Colby's adventures are continued but this time with his cousin Buddy. I say, this part-2 in series is more about Buddy than Colby. There are few thing which are completely unfamiliar to me, like snapping turtles and their reaction to the invaders of their territory. And about Skunk which I read about earlier but never knew that it could be that dangerous like explained in this book.

I like Cacy and Brad thing in "Chapter 5 : A trip to the Pet Store". I really enjoyed this chapter. This light note drives always good to read about.
It was so funny to know from the discussion of a family on Buddy's rock matter. Also, It was good to learn about their respective breeds when it comes to their behaviour, be it Husky or Retriever. I was enjoying reading their sports likeability. Colby's and Buddy's adventures were so thrilling. Now, from reading about his puppy life in Book 1 to his this full-grown activities in this part, tells a lot about the connection of a complete family with their favorable Pet.

For me, To be honest, I enjoyed previous book much better than this one, but I believe there always comes a bit of lag while series passes from first to second book. I have experienced this earlier also. But I'm well sure about its 3rd launch in series and the way this one ended, I think that will be narrated by Ava's Mother.

To acknowledge one correction for publisher on page 37, there was one spelling mistake, where 'Cacy' was printed as 'Casey'.

Overall, this is 4.0/5.0 for me.

A thoughtful and engaging read for kids and adults alike. My niece and I have really enjoyed reading this book together. Each chapter is thought-provoking and often sparks her curiosity, leading to lots of questions about the dogs I grew up with and the stories that go along with them. Nearly every chapter gives me a chance to share one of my own experiences, which makes reading this book together a meaningful and enjoyable way to bond. The book also offers great lessons for kids about the joys and responsibilities of having dogs as pets. Highly recommended!

For every dog-lover out there, I recommend Shanley’s book series on Colby. It has been delightful reading stories about lovable dogs in lovable families. As I mentioned in a previous review, the stories are anecdotally told, and very easy to follow, yet engaging enough to want to read more. If you read closely, simple messages of the blessings of everyday life peer through the sentences. I hope this series is one to continue :)
Thank you to the author for sharing!

Book two in the Colby series reunites readers with rescue dog Colby and introduces Buddy, his owner’s cousin’s dog. Filled with touching tales of the adventures of this mischievous duo and some funny anecdotes, the stories also impart some lessons on how to look after dogs and helps children understand some of their quirky habits and reactions to things like thunder. This is a sweet little book that parents and children alike will love, especially dog-lovers.
