When self-absorbed, international bestselling author Sebastian Bartoli refuses to write the biography of the infamous, mob-connected Maximillian Fontana, the consequences turn deadly. Sebastian (Bash) Bartoli is an international bestselling crime novelist. Maximillian (Max) Fontana, who is reputed to have ties to organized white-collar crime, has insisted Bash write his biography. Concerned for his safety, Bash’s friend/agent devises an elaborate plan for him to disappear to a secluded location on Guntersville Lake in Alabama. Being accustomed to having his comfortable life managed, Bash is irritated by the inconvenience of having to deal with his own affairs, not to mention the danger it might pose if he is discovered. Morgan Skylar is a good-natured and unfiltered, southern kindergarten teacher. She is much more comfortable eating potato chips with Cheez Whiz and Louisiana Hot Sauce than champagne and caviar. After the death of her overly protective grandfather (Pops) who raised her in rural Georgia, she takes time off to grieve, ending up in a cottage next door to Bash. When mechanical issues arise, she seeks help from the renter in the main house. Bash is annoyed that his secluded hideout is apparently not so secret. Begrudgingly, he offers her assistance. This is where Morgan and Bash’s worlds collide. When suited, armed men show up at the lake house, Morgan’s trained survival skills take over, and she secures their escape by boat as bullets fly. Morgan offers to provide a temporary sanctuary to Bash in her Pops’ remote Appalachian cabin. Upon arrival, she discovers a letter from Pops revealing his dangerous past that may now be coming for her. As the unwitting targets of dangerous men, Bash and Morgan fight to stay a step ahead of their pursuers, while seeking answers. Bonds are tested. Trusts are broken. Alliances formed. Agendas hidden.

I just finished reading Protective Instinct by Joy York. Wow! What an adventure! This book starts with a bang and ends with an even bigger bang! I admit, I have a soft touch for action/adventure and crime novels, so when I grabbed Protective Instinct, it scratched my itch. Joy York is an amazing author. One that has slid up the ladder to being one of my favorites. Protective Instinct centers around Morgan Skylar, and for those who love a strong woman taking charge, you'll love this. Morgan is sassy, unpretentious, and resilient. She doesn't shy from danger, and believe me, there is plenty of that! When plans are made for Skylar to meet up with her friend at a lakeside cabin in the Appalachian Mountains for a well-deserved vacation, her life would take a sharp U-turn. When she arrives, she discovers her friend has run off to be married, and she finds herself alone. For Morgan, that is fine. She's independent and can take care of herself, but when the cottage's lights go off, Morgan must seek the help of a bestselling author, Sebastian Bartoli (Bash), who has stolen away to avoid writing an autobiography for Maximillian (Max) Fontana, who is known to rub shoulders with the mob. When Morgan discovers her grandfather, who had recently passed away, had himself dangling like bait, in a dangerous situation that directly involves her, and with the mob discovering the whereabouts of Bash, things begin to unravel quickly, throwing the two of them on the run. The plot is intricate with as many twists and turns as the Daytona Speedway and does not slack off. The characters are real and easy to identify with, making this novel an edge-of-your-seat. read that is difficult to set aside. I loved this book and highly recommend it to other adventure junkies who crave an exciting chase. A five-star winner for me!
This is a fast paced thriller with plenty of action, intrigue, twists and turns that keeps you turning the pages, plus a lovely element of romance that softens the darker sides of the story.
I loved all the characters, including the ones with dark hearts and evil intent. But especially the fiesty Morgan, who whilst prepared for anything by her paranoid grandfather, and well able to hold her own in the most challenging and dangerous situations, is still very innocent in many ways. Meeting up with world weary author Bash might not seem like fate at first, but as their back stories unravel, and more is revealed about their families, it does seem that destiny has a hand in their future.
The action takes place across the country in RVs, cars and on motorbikes as not only those intent on causing them harm follow them, but people and events from the past catch up to them with startling revelations.
Having read Genuine Deceit I knew that Joy York was an excellent writer, and this book definitely reinforces that opinion. If you enjoy thrillers with intriguing characters, plots, nail-biting action with some delightful romantic interludes then I can highly recommend this book.
In Joy York's Protective Instinct (World Castle Publishing 2024), Sebastian "Bash" Bartoli, an international best-selling author, and Morgan Skylar, a kindergarten teacher raised by a grandfather with a sketchy past, are thrown together in the most unlikely of circumstances. Bash rents a gorgeous out-of-the-way rental on the water to focus on writing his next book and Morgan ends up in the rental's caretaker cottage when other plans don't work out. They would both prefer to avoid each other, but that plan explodes within hours of their arrival, when gun-toting strangers force them to flee for reasons unknown. Neither of them know why they are being chased, but both do have storied pasts, slowly unveiled as they try to figure out who is chasing them and how to escape with their lives. Morgan has serious survivalist skills and Bash has serious financial resources, both of which give them tools to avoid one tricky situation after another and time to unravel the unlikely clues they manage to uncover.
Overall, there is never a dull moment in this book thanks to lots of believable character growth and a plethora of surprising twists that kept me reading until I ran out of pages. This book is highly recommended for those who like to see ordinary people who are naïve about fighting for their lives successfully do so.

Author York has penned a suspense filled tale laced with a dash of romance and family drama that will keep you on edge 'til the final page is turned. A great read for fans of mystery and suspense, highly recommended!
Having read the first two books by this author, I knew this story, like her other ones, would take off out of the gate and continue to deliver the action, twists, and surprises until the very end.
I’m not one to write reviews that merely recap a book. Rather, I like to share is what stood out and impacted me the most. I’ll only say that when crime novelist Sebastian Bartoli and kindergarten teacher Morgan Sklyar meet, the circumstances are beyond anything either could have imagined. Two people couldn’t meet in a more unconventional way and have less in common. Except … as Joy York does so well in this novel, is to show how very wrong initial appearances can be, and that the person who seems to be all wrong, can be very right. But when danger follows, survival is paramount.
Adding to this, Sebastian (Bash) and Morgan both learn some shocking things about their respective family ties that are tough enough to deal with in “normal” times, much less when chaos chases them.
Just when you think all has been revealed … well, I’ll leave that to the reader to discover. I especially recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense.
In Protective Instincts by Joy York, Bash, a male award-winning author and Morgan, a petite, female kindergartner teacher, both show up at a rental home on a secluded lake and want nothing more than to be alone, to disappear for a while. Bash rented the main house, Morgan the caretaker’s cottage. But the caretaker’s cottage has no power or water. What could go wrong. Two goons show up the very same night. Either Bash or Morgan is running from the wrong people. In a clever role reversal, Morgan, the petite kindergartner teacher starts out saving Bash. Then things get out of hand. They end up saving each other. I found just enough romance (naturally) to make the story very real. Great secondary characters and subplots. I like the challenge of a clever conspiracy thriller and Joy York delivers. I’ve read several of her books and will read the rest. Come to think of it, Protective Instincts would make a great movie.
Protective Instinct is an aptly named title for this amazing book, but before I get into a few particulars, I want to say how much I ADORED THIS STORY, authored by the talented Joy York.
A few sub-plots are going on in this fabulous page-turner, including a best-selling crime writer, a young kindergarten teacher who’s just suffered the death of her beloved Pops, and a powerful older business tycoon with an evil reputation and rumored to have devious underworld connections.
Here’s the skinny: Best-selling author Sebastian ‘Bash’ Bartoli has become so famous and reliant on his assistants, he even allows them to make decisions for him. When reputed crime boss Maximillian Fontana demands that the author write his memoirs, fear sends an overly cautious Bash into hiding at a secret location arranged by his staff to avoid the impending conflict. Who wants to tick off a powerful man involved with organized crime by refusing his demands?
Meanwhile, Morgan Skylar is a kindergarten teacher in her late twenties, whose Pops has just died. She is completely guileless and alone, and on her way to visit her newly married bestie. Pops, a former biker gang mechanic, has lovingly raised her after her father goes to jail for crimes committed by a vicious biker gang. Unbeknownst to adult Morgan, Pops had taken on a new name and disappeared with baby Morgan right after she was born to a drug-addicted mother, leaving behind no clues that would endanger Morgan’s life - EVER.
Either the stars align, or Bash’s assistants mess up, or both. Bash and Morgan end up at the same location – he in the ritzy big house overlooking a lake and she in the guest house on the same property. When Morgan arrives, the guest house has been ransacked, and while Morgan suspects the messy cottage is caused by her bestie’s brother and his friends, her guess couldn’t be further from the truth.
Bash is annoyed his hideout isn’t as secret as he’d thought, and rescues Morgan from the guys gunning for him. She, in turn, begins to trust Bash and lends him shelter in her Pops’ rural cabin and gives him a very special gift that had belonged to Pops. It’s at this cabin in Appalachia that she discovers her life was not all that it seemed, and that she’s in danger, too.
Pops had been extremely careful of exposing her to strangers, while she thought he went overboard – but the old man had his reasons – valid protective ones, and the skills he’d taught her over the years were meant to be used for survival. When an unrelated group of criminals shows up looking for important information regarding Morgan, her past, and inheritance, she and Bash make a run for it… Until Maximillian Fontana shows up and everyone almost…
Yikes! Almost spilled the beans, but since I don’t share spoilers, I’m zipping my lip - except to share that every time, around every corner, when these wonderful characters feel as if it’s safe to breathe, chaos erupts and surprises commence, leaving this reader’s eyes wide and turning the pages. Talk about, “I didn’t see that one coming!” I didn’t see any of them coming, and every surprise led to more.
Again, I absolutely adored this book and highly recommend it. The characters are engaging, lovable, forgivable, and most of all, will have you either cheering them on or groaning in sympathy at their bad luck, until the amazing ending. Bravo, Ms. York, for this fine, entertaining read – one that should be made into a movie.
Joy York is one of my favorite authors and this book did not disappoint. It was fast paced from the first to final chapter and the ending was a total surprise. Most of all, I loved that Morgan, the main character, was a kindergarten teacher. She certainly had an exciting adventure and it was great to see such a strong female character. I’m looking forward to more books by this author.
This is a thriller! Bash and Morgan have quite the adventure. From Alabama to Maine and stops in between, the action doesn't stop. So many colorful characters and motives, the reader has to keep up! Who to trust? What motives do the people have? Are the people legitimate? Read this exciting novel and become involved with the characters. An excellent read!
I didn’t plan on binge-reading this book in one day, but once I started I hadn’t a choice. It was a page-turner. Not only is the action in full swing by chapter 3, but the characters had me fully invested right off the bat.
Bash, an award-winning author, is hiding out from a notoriously wealthy and dangerous business tycoon. He’s renting a home on a secluded lake and is supposed to be alone. But a young kindergartner teacher, Morgan, shows up for a stay at the home’s caretaker cottage, only to discover that the power and water are turned off. She seeks Bash’s help.
Now this might sound like the makings of a romance, but there’s no time for that when two goons show up the very same night. Bash and Morgan are instantly cast together in a flight for their lives. And it’s not long before there are two criminal organizations in pursuit.
One thing I loved about the story was the way it turned the stereotypes of “helpless woman” and “heroic he-man” on their heads. Morgan, the petite kindergartner teacher, was raised by her survivalist grandfather, and she has some badass skills! Bash is mortified that he’s repeatedly the one being rescued—at one point hiding in a closet while Morgan handles the situation. The role reversal was great fun, while at the same time, the action and danger kept me on the edge of my seat.
The writing is smooth, the complex plot easy to follow, and the secondary characters are as well-developed as the protagonists. Highly recommended to readers of thrillers who are looking for great characters and a relentless pace.
A ripping thriller that produces just what a reader needs. Story, plot, characters, setting, and a heap of twists that you just do not even remotely think of. That’s what makes this a thriller that is head and shoulders above many of this genre. Thus is also my first read from this author, and knowing me, it won’t be the last. A definite five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read that delivers a 1st class thriller that is highly recommended.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I am still reeling from it. I read it in two sittings and had a hard time putting it down. I loved all of the characters in the story. Each played such an integral part. Sebastian Bartoli is a world famous author and he's gotten so self-absorbed and used to everyone taking care of everything for him, he's forgotten what it's like to be in charge of his own life. Megan is a kindergarten school teacher who is grieving the loss of her grandfather and is looking forward to a getaway with her best friend. Only things don't work out that way. Sebastian is sent into hiding after refusing to write a notorious mobster's biography. Now his life is in jeopardy and no one is to know where he is. But when Megan arrives at the caretaker's cottage on the lake where she was to meet up with her friend, and finds no utilities, she has no choice but to seek help from the man who has rented the big house. That man turns out to be Sebastian. Their lives become intertwined as danger lurks and earth-shattering secrets are revealed.
The characters are all three-dimensional and believable. The plot has more twists and turns than a mountain road and the number of heart-stopping scenes mount as the story progresses. It is very well written and complex as all the different threads are woven together with the expertise of a magician. I loved all of it and don't want to leave any spoilers. If you enjoy white-knuckle, fast action, mind-numbing drama and a barrel full of secrets waiting to be revealed, you will love this story. If I could give it more than five stars, I would. Great world-building!
Morgan is supposed to go on vacation with her best friend at the family lake house. Instead, Morgan's friend cancels, and she discovers she will stay in the caretaker's cabin since the house has been rented out. When Morgan has issues, she seeks help from the guest in the house. Bash has been whisked away to escape a request by an unsavory character. He isn’t happy to find someone else is sharing his space but reluctantly agrees to help her. At first, I thought this was going to be a couple stuck together in a house who don’t get along but end up falling in love. It doesn’t take long before trouble knocks and they find themselves on the run. What they soon find out is there may be more trouble following them than expected. I love the strength of Morgan and Bash finally grew on me as his character progressed. Soon, I was not only rooting for them to survive but also giving into their affections. There were a couple of unexpected twists, which I always appreciate, especially at the end. Morgan had some surprising skills, and the things she could drive enamored me. Bonded together in survival mode, both of their pasts come into play. An exciting page-turner that captured my attention from the first escape. I can easily recommend “Protective Instinct.”
As a fellow book author, I was eager to read this book, not only for the storytelling but also to recognize the various elements that contribute to a compelling narrative. I was not disappointed. I couldn't help but appreciate Joy York's exceptional writing skills, particularly her use of language, complex character development, and vivid imagery that create a unique storytelling and reading experience. Her book, Protective Instinct, was engaging and immersive. York pays careful attention to her craft, and I couldn't put the book down. The thrilling and expertly constructed dialogue "puts you on the edge of your seat" and keeps your interest high without rushing or dragging.
If you love reading fast-paced thrillers that combine mystery, mental stimulation, and emotional and psychological responses, while also providing a captivating escape, allowing readers to immerse themselves in a different world, this book is for you!
Joy York's Protective Instinct encourages readers to think critically, question assumptions, and consider different perspectives and outcomes, making for an exceptional and suspenseful reading experience. Well done! A must-read.
In this suspenseful tale, the author masterfully weaves a tightly-knit narrative, unveiling unexpected twists with each unfolding chapter. Readers embark on a high-stakes journey spanning three states, accompanying characters Bash and Morgan as their haunting past relentlessly pursues them, putting their lives in peril. The innate protective instincts of these characters become their lifeline, adding a layer of intensity to the story.
The narrative skillfully extracts tension from each scene, propelling us seamlessly into the next while allowing just the right amount of pullback time for recovery. This rhythmic balance is a testament to the author's expertise, effortlessly maintaining the suspense chapter after chapter. Amidst the gripping plot, York infuses dashes of humor, introduces surprising twists and turns, and concludes with an ending that unfolds at its own deliberate pace. "Protective Instinct" emerges as a multi-faceted book that firmly holds your attention, making it nearly impossible to set aside.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book is full of romance and danger. Not only do we have a writer who allows others to control and schedule his life, but there are mobsters and a biker gang from LA hot on his backside along with the girl of his dreams coming into the story fast. The pace is frenetic and exciting. The protagonists souls are left bare. Gutwrenching scenes are prevalent as much as the ones involving the bad guys chasing them. The book is a wonderful story. I had problems with one protagonist being a kindergarten teacher then a first grade teacher, and back and forth. Ansel Adams is Ansel Adams. Four stars for need of edits. Will give five stars when I see edited book.
Protective Instinct delivers the promise of the title and is an action thriller at its best. Author Joy York throws into the mix a good deal of comedy and suspense to make this one of the fastest reads of my life! I finished it in two days because I couldn’t wait to find out what dangerous situations the characters were going to face and how Morgan and Bash were going to extricate themselves. No disappointments here!
I’m not going to sum up the story—but I will say that this is a novel for lovers of mysteries! So buy the book, get set, ready, and go for on your own JOY RIDE!
What an absolutely wild ride this story has turned out to be! With twists and turns I didn’t see coming, secrets about the characters’ past revealed, and action on every page, I had real difficulties putting this book down, even when it was way past my bedtime.
I enjoyed the Jailer's Daughter Mysteries series by Joy York so much that I can’t help but check from time to time if there appeared the third book. Something tells me that Lily and Christi, two teenage girls who get entangled in crime solving, because how can it be otherwise if one of them is a jailer’s daughter and lives virtually in the prison building, have more troubles waiting for them. And I’m looking forward to finding myself immersed in a deliciously atmospheric setting of rural Mississippi.
I am not what you can call a thriller reader, so I didn’t know what to expect when I picked up “Protective Instinct.” Let me admit at once, I wasn’t disappointed. On the contrary, I found myself frantically turning the pages, contemplating what might happen in the next chapter.
Sebastian Bartoli might be rich and famous, but many people – myself included – would find him extremely annoying. He is one of those guys who believes that the planets, together with all their moons, revolve solely around him. That being said, it’s probably the right time to mention that it’s my favourite type of book character. Controversial, with substantial possibilities for development as the story progresses.
Morgan Skylar is a sweetheart. Young, friendly, pretty, and a kindergarten teacher on top of all that. Struggling with grief over losing the only close person she had in her life, she still wants everyone around her to feel happy. That is why, when her best friend delivers an unexpected blow, and that, when Morgan is already on her way to their meeting place and cannot immediately turn back, she puts on the bravest face and ensures that her friend has no idea how upset she is about the turn of events.
Neither Sebastian nor Morgan remains what readers were led to believe they are for long. Besides, the secrets they reveal about their pasts and family ties shock them just like they do us readers. The rollercoaster of events, set in motion by the appearance of two armed guys, pondering over whose intentions would come at a too-high cost, doesn’t stop until the very last pages.
Why does someone allegedly involved in shady business persist in persuading Sebastian to write his biography? How is it possible that someone you’ve known all your life managed to hide not only who they were but your identity as well?
Choosing to read “Protective Instinct” by Joy York, be prepared to gasp in surprise and for your fingers to itch with the desire to turn the pages. I recommend this book to everyone who appreciates fast-paced thrillers with plenty of action and a dash of simmering romance.
‘Protective Instinct’ is a fast-paced, intriguing thriller with a multi-dimensional plot. It was difficult to put it down and I raced through it just like its non-stop action. When bestselling author Sebastian Bartoli’s friend devises a plan for him to disappear to a secluded location, I had my doubts. Familiar with York’s writing style, I couldn't trust anyone and could figure out the sinister designs around him. The suspense mounts with Morgan’s entry - has she been planted? Is she really what she seems to be?
Wow! It only proves to be the tip of the iceberg. There is much more that lies buried and York handles it masterfully! I bet it is not easy to predict what lies ahead when Max Fontana makes his dramatic entry. Once again, I slipped off my seat, eager to know whether he was a truthful man and what his real motive was.
I was awe-struck by Morgan’s character - so different from the traditional female protagonists - independent planner, decisive, adventurous and a survivor with outstanding values. Other characters are drawn with brilliant strokes and fit into the story so well, as the shades of gray and black mingle to define them.
This book is a riveting read that keeps you invested till the last page. Highly recommended.
“The rain finally stopped, and dusk had turned into a moonless night, filtering out all traces of light except for the path lamps lining the stairs leading down the hill to the lake.” Having read and enjoyed Ms York’s two “Jailer’s Daughter Mysteries”, I figured it was time to sample another of her novels – this time an outright thriller. IMHO, the essence of a good thriller has the following elements: careful pacing, atmosphere, a sound (if twisty) plot, and credible characters (at least one of which you can root for). “Protective Instinct” – the story of a writer-in-hiding – ticks all these boxes; and what is more, throws in a more-than-capable female character (as opposed to the helpless maiden who haunts the pages of lesser novels). Throw in some sharp dialogue and bring to the boil with a smattering of unexpected romance, and you can see why you might want to consider kicking off 2026 with this… “We aren’t going to find any dead bodies of sex slaves in there, are we?” And… “She didn’t recognize the commanding voice that came from her mouth. ‘I am neither unarmed nor innocent. The only way you are going to stop me is to shoot me. And at this point in my life, there is no one left to care.’ With that, she turned and headed into the chaos.”
This is my third Joy York book, and the author doesn't disappoint. Protective Instinct is a fast-paced thriller romance that slowly peels away the gap between the past and present.
International bestselling author Sebastian Bartoli needs to get away from the demands of mob-connected Maximillian Fontana. With his whereabouts kept within a close circle of friends, he leaves for a log cabin, set within the beautiful Guntersville Lake in Alabama.
Morgan Skylar sets out to meet her friend (who changes her plans at the last minute, leaving Morgan alone to enjoy Guntersville Lake). This is where Morgan and Sebastian's lives clash.
The mob is on Sebastian's tail, and he's forced to rely on Morgan for help.
Joy knows how to spin a suspenseful tale, and there is more to this story than the murderous mob hunting Sebastian. Morgan's past also comes crashing down on them, and they find themselves hunted on all levels.
The way the author handles the internal conflicts of the main characters and their relationships adds depth to the story, and there is a wonderful connection between the reader and the characters.
Protective Instinct is a fabulous blend of murder, family, and love. It is about the flaws each character must recognise and overcome to trust and stay alive.
When you have suspense, action, and a bit of romance thrown in, you can't lose.
Sebastian Bartoli is a famous author who is trying to escape from a meeting with a notorious mobster who wants "Bash" to pen his biography. His friends send him to a quiet cabin in Guntersville, Alabama.
Morgan Skyler is a kindergarten teacher who recently lost her grandfather, "Pops." She was her only relative. She was supposed to meet her best friend for a week-long getaway. When Morgan arrives, she learns the friend won't be joining her, and the cabin is rented out. Not to be discouraged, Morgan decides to stay in the guest house.
The problems begin when two thugs show up and trash the guesthouse. Morgan learns they are associated with the mobster, Maximillian Fontana. She helps Bash escape and thus begins a trail that leads from Alabama to Maine.
There are plenty of twists and turns, some characters aren't what they seem, and everything wraps up with a satisfying ending. Once you start this one, you won't want to put it down.
I have one regret about reading Protective Instinct, and it's that I allowed it to sit in my "To Be Read" pile too long!
This is a super mystery crime thriller. I have read all the author’s books, and Joy York is favorite author.
'Protective Instinct' is a wonderful crime thriller blending mystery, suspense and a sprinkle of romance as each of the key characters story unfolds.
I started reading “Protective Instinct” and found myself immediately drawn into the story and plot. I didn’t want to put the book down and kept reading one chapter after the next. I found this be a perfect summer read sitting in the deep shade during a heat wave.
The author’s writing never fails to surprise me with originality and a plot that grabs me right from the start. If you haven’t discovered Joy York’s writing, I highly suggest you do as all her books have wonderful dialogue, plots and character development.
This book a great crime-thriller without gore and violence. The author's writing explores trust, family, and heart-healing against the backdrop of an excellent fast-paced mystery full of mystery.
A cat-and-mouse mystery with sympathetic well-developed characters and vivid dialogue, Protective Instinct has enough surprises and twists to keep you guessing and turning pages. Highly recommended.
I’m not sure why we love books about people who write books, but we do. And Protective Instinct is no exception to this. I suspect that the lives of most writers are fairly mundane because we spend so much time writing. But the life of author Sebastian Bartoli is anything but dull!
Protective Instincts by Joy York is a page-turning and intriguing thriller. Twists and turns abound in this novel, often when least expected. I experienced a gamut of emotions while reading —humor, suspense, eagerness to read more. Pop’s letter brought me to tears.
I don’t want to give too much of the storyline away, but I will say that I love female heroes who are smart, capable, and confident. If you do too, you will enjoy reading Protective Instincts. I recommend it. –Pat Spencer, Author of Story of a Stolen Girl.
Such a ride. Sebastian wrote fiction, but a New York businessman suspected to have mob connections insists he needs him to write his memoirs or biography. Deciding to go into hiding until he gets the point kicks the whole cascade of craziness that follows and leads him to family he didn't know about and a young woman who isn't what she seems. Captivating!
Protective Instinct by Joy York is a thrilling, on the run adventure, where the pace never falters, which I can't help but imagine being a big screen movie .
Bash and Morgan are thrown together by unfortunate and dangerous circumstances and then are forced to be on the run. The two of them are as different as chalk and cheese but at the same time there is something below the surface, which cannot be denied, drawing the two of them together. It's also ironic that have very different lives yet their pasts are very similar.
Joy York adeptly structures Morgan's character as a kindergarten teacher but she is anything but lost and a damsel in distress as one might expect. She is calm and cool under pressure and in the face of danger. Sebastian is successful but finds himself a little lost in the real world
While on the run Sebastian also known as Bash often finds himself looking to her for direction. He is a self made man now managed by an inner circle and it takes hanging around with Morgan for him to try and claim back his life again.
There are secrets and revelations and the mafia and a biker gang chasing them so the adrenaline never stops pumping and the action never ceases.
The chemistry between the pair is palpable but most of all I love the protective instinct , whether it's emanating from Morgan toward Bash or flowing from Bash for Morgan. Isn't that what a true partnership is about ~ protecting each other ? And it takes an author like Joy York to bring out the subtle nuance of the title at each turn of the story.
Joy York has outdone herself with this thrilling action packed adventure where the reader finds herself enjoying the never ending excitement .
Definitely a must read for action junkies and thrill seekers and those seeking a touch of light romance mixed with it all. Highly recommended.
