I’m ready for autumn! Heck, I’m always ready for cool weather. The warm cover was all I needed to read this book. I love that it has a lesbian couple with two little happy kids. Mom has silver hair with a pixie cut, and Mama has black hair with blue highlights. So cool!
The illustrations are beautiful. The vibrant colors light up the screen. There’s a touch of blur, which adds to the ethereal effect. I’m not that sure about the expressions on some pages, but nature is very well done.
The story, as such, is simple. The kids go to the park with their Mama, and she explains things about fall. The narration is not smooth. It feels jerky and clunky. The writing could do with some editing and restructuring to elevate the content.
We have a few pages of additional information at the end about the season, plants, animals, insects, fungi, etc. There are a couple of resources and some tips, too!
To summarize, Fall Feast is an informative and lovely book introducing the colorful season to kids. Would be better if kids read it with parents since there’s some exploration, which can be risky if little ones touch random insects or eat berries without parental supervision.
Thank you, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books | Happy Yak, for eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Fall Feast: Nature's Harvest is a beautifully bright illustrated picture book for children explaining in a fun way what happens in autumn. The book follows two children as they go out for a walk through nature and the wonders they find in nature. The book teaches how animals prepare for winter, decomposition, different plants, trees, and fungi and even touches on migration of birds. The book gives a great discussion opening for the adult and child who read it to have together, which makes it perfect for a school story. The back of the book has further information about what autumn is, the nature you can find in autumn, and ways you can help animals to survive through the winter. Autumn is my favourite season, and I can't wait to share this story with my grandbaby this autumn and take her for a walk through nature afterwards.
This story follows two young children exploring the great outdoors during the Fall season. I love how there’s a collection with these stories - each season being portrayed. In this one, we tackle the Fall season and learn more about the animals and actions they take during the cooler weather.
The illustrations were fantastic and I found the story to be very entertaining. It’s the perfect read for children!
I would definitely recommend added this to your children’s library, they’ll adore this story - especially in the fall time!

Fall Feast is a sweet, informative and bright children’s book about exploring nature as autumn sets in.
I loved the early messaging about the kids not wanting to go out but having a great time when they did. It’s a lovely reminder that there are adventures to be had, even after the weather turns cold.
The mother’s gentle narration through the nature walk was an informative and accessible way to learn about and appreciate the changing environment as autumn approaches. The illustrations beautifully supported the story, and were rich and beautifully textured.
I loved the casual representation with the children’s two mothers, highlighting their characters without making their relationship the focus of the story.
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.
What a great book for children to explain all about nature and what happens during Fall. It explains why some animals store food and get ready to hibernate. On a walk with children in the fall time, the pictures in the back show many things you can look for and find during fall hikes.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the arc copy.
Fall Feast: Nature's Harvest was a wonderful look at the natural world in Fall. It follows 2 children and their mother exploring the park on a fall day. I loved that there was casual inclusion of LGBTQIA+ characters and that each critter and organism that was found was so well appreciated.
I would definitely recommend this one to anyone with young kiddos! It was a delightful read!
Thanks to NetGalley, Sean Taylor, Alex Morss, and Quarto Publishing for the chance to review!
Fall Feast gives out all the heartwarming, cozy vibes of the Autumn season. It's a feel-good story with lovely illustrations (although I was more impressed with the depiction of nature than those of the characters). I thought it was very interesting to add a detailed, informative part about plants and animals after the story. It's great to get into the spirit of the season and teach relevant info to kids.
Book Review: Fall Feast: Nature's Harvest by Sean Taylor, Alex Morss, and Cinyee Chiu (Illustrator).
Rating: 4 Stars
I recently had the pleasure of reviewing "Fall Feast: Nature's Harvest", and this book is a delightful celebration of autumn that genuinely warmed my heart. As soon as I picked it up, I was greeted by a stunning cover that beautifully complements the story inside. It gives off all the cozy vibes that autumn brings, and I was instantly transported to that magical time of year.
In this enchanting follow-up to Winter Sleep, Busy Spring, and Wild Summer, we follow two children who venture into the great outdoors with their mother. As they explore the vibrant world around them, they observe wildlife preparing for the colder months ahead. From golden leaves fluttering in the wind to animals busily gathering food, the book captures the essence of fall in a way that feels both informative and engaging. The kids are surrounded by the rich colors of autumn, crunchy leaves underfoot, and a bountiful harvest of nuts, berries, and fruits—it's truly a feast for the senses!
One aspect I particularly appreciated was the representation of the children's two mothers. It was refreshing to see their relationship highlighted without it overshadowing the story. The narrative is simple but effective; Mama takes the time to explain the wonders of fall as the kids soak in all the sights and sounds around them.
Let’s talk about those illustrations! Cinyee Chiu’s artwork is absolutely breathtaking, with vibrant colors that truly light up each page. It felt like I could almost reach out and touch the leaves or taste the berries! The visuals paired with the story make for a rich reading experience that is sure to captivate any child.
Towards the end, there are some informative pages that delve deeper into seasonal changes, featuring decomposers, plants, and animals. It’s a great way to extend the learning experience beyond just the story itself, offering valuable insights alongside a few helpful resources and tips.
Overall, Fall Feast: Nature's Harvest is a charming addition to any child's home library. It encompasses the beauty of nature during autumn while also providing educational elements in a fun way. I would give it a solid four stars—perfect for those cozy autumn reading sessions! If you're as ready for fall as I am, this book is like a warm hug that you won’t want to miss.

Thank you so much to Quarto Kids/ Francis Lincoln Children’s/ Happy Yak and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Two children want to stay home and make a mess first their moms but their mama wants to take them out to see the beautiful fall feast that’s in the park. The two children explore and learn so much whilst at the park.
This was a great read the two children were adorable, being so inquisitive about everything, soaking up the knowledge that their mama was sharing with them. Exploring all the different areas of the park, starting to enjoy the fall that they didn’t like before.
I loved seeing the illustration of all the colours of fall, the animals, the different plants, different foods that grow. I also really enjoyed that at the end of the book it was filled with of facts, you could learn so much more about the many aspects of fall.
This is a wonderful book, perfect to read before a day of exploring nature with your young ones. They’ll know what they are looking for and find it that much more fun. It’s also just a sweet cozy read, with so much information to learn but with a completely fun story.
Look everywhere outside among the trees, leaves, grasses, small animals, birds and more to see the wonderful feast that autumn is providing! Enjoy the fine details in the artwork! The last few pages are depictions of things along with a paragraph of helpfulness. The illustrations by Cinyee Chiu are fun, brilliantly colorful, and delightful. Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library! I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books/HappyYak via NetGalley. This book is great for 3 reasons: 1. First, the depiction of a two-mom family, which by now should be common but in my experience is not. I loved seeing it and I am very happy that many children will feel represented by it. 2. The illustrations oh my god!!! They are very pretty and full of details, I personally love autumn and its aesthetics, so this was wonderful. 3. It is a very informative book in disguise. I'm not going to lie, at the end there were quite a few fun facts I didn't know about animals and fall in general. I really appreciate how it will make children more aware of the planet and how we can take care of it.
*Thanks to NetGalley uk, the publishers and the author for the ARC*
I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This is a great book for Autumn and it encourages exploring during the colder season and learning about nature and all its changes during the season. It was a lot of fun and I loved all the details.
The book has a lot of notes on nature at the end. Great addition, in my opinion.
I wasn't big on the art - on one hand I really loved the nature bits and the background, but the characters' art style was always pulling me out of the entire vibe created by the other details and the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for kindly providing me with an e-ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The colours in this book are amazing. I loved the inclusivity in it, too. It's an informative book for children to learn about Fall and nature, while feeling represented and seen.
It's a really thorough book with more information at the end of the story, so it's ideal to teach children, too.
It made me long for Fall in the middle of Summer, haha! And I adored the mums' hairstyles and fashion sense <3
I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.
This book is all about how animals and nature prepares for the winter. The fall colors are gorgeous in this book, and I loved the realistic illustrations of plants and animals throughout. It was also a nice little touch to make this a LGBTQ book without it being about the two moms, just some kids taking a walk on a beautiful fall day and learning from their mom about nature. A great book for those more scientifically minded kids to learn a bit about fall and why it is important.
Join two young children as they go on a brisk autumn walk with their moms to explore the many ways the flora and fauna in nature prepare for winter during the fall months.
This is a beautifully illustrated nonfiction picture book that dives into details of how plants and animals get ready for winter. It has way more information than I first assumed, but I enjoyed it! The back matter has tons of more details for the curious reader, but the general storyline also has tons of great information. This is the final book in the series, following Winter Sleep, Busy Spring, and Wild Summer.
Take a fun nature walk through a gorgeous autumn landscape and learn all about how animals prepare for the coming winter. Cinyee Chiu's warm and inviting illustrations really help bring the season's magic to life. This book presents a truly lovely celebration of the outdoors, and family togetherness.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Happy Yak for the read.
In this book, we learn what fall is through the story of two siblings and their mothers. We can do a lot on fall, since the weather is mild to go outside. This time they strolled around the park and found interesting things, including apples that can be picked up and made into apple flapjacks. For those who lived in a city and can't see nature often, this is a great book to learn what fall is like.
Summary: Two siblings go on a nature walk with their Mom and Mama to explore the autumn season, discovering such things as falling leaves, berries and nuts, fungi, and migrating birds.
Comments: The back sections include more information about fall, animals, plants, and decomposers.
This is the last book of the Season in the Wild series. The other can be found at this Amazon page.
I LOVE fall books, so I was glad to read this new one. I enjoyed the family fall walk, ending with a gathered treat they could enjoy together. I especially loved the feel of fall gathering me up, making me wish for fall days, beautiful leaves, and brisk weather. The story is appropriate for 4-7, and the nonfiction back matter is fascinating.
Fall is my favorite season, and I love going out in nature to enjoy the crisp air and look for all those changing things described in this book. Beautiful, colorful illustrations follow a mother and her children as they learn about how plants and animals change during the fall months to prepare for winter. Bonus points for the family having two moms - representation matters!
This is a beautiful picture book about the beauty of autumn. It is a bit more wordy than expected, but nothing that is too difficult. It is packed with trivia knowledge about nature in autumn and it is beautifully illustrated.
A bright, colourful and educational read. This seasonal book is both entertaining and enlightening. It will keep young readers engaged as they explore the world around them and learn about nature and tpseasonal changes. A lovely addition to any personal or school library. Highly recommend.
This was a cute part story part informational book for children that talks about fall, what happens, what you can do to help wildlife etc and the artwork in it is gorgeous. Highly recommend if you have young kids
This book explains what will happen and what wild animals prepare for in autumn. I was born in this season and I love this autumn illustration. I think this book can be one way to introduce what happens in autumn to kids.
The pictures are really pretty, but the text just didn't work for us. It was unnecessarily wordy and I skipped over lots of it. It was a one-and-done for us and back to the library it goes.
Fall Feast is a beautiful children’s story full of fall knowledge and learning. This book is excellent for teaching a loved one about the different environmental changes that occur in fall, while keeping the story fun and exciting. I found myself, an adult, learning things I never knew about fall either!
Apart from the story, in the back of the book are a couple of pages explaining different decomposers, as well as fall concepts like migrating, plants dying for the winter, hibernation, etc. I found this knowledge to make the book fantastic for both younger audiences, and for older children who might want a deeper understanding of the information in the story.
Lastly, I want to applaud the author and the illustrators for their wonderful representation of a family with same-sex parents. I was happy to see a children’s book display LGBTQ+ families in such a normalized light. It was beautiful to see their happy family dynamic, just as that same happiness is commonly seen in children’s books with opposite-sex parents.
Thank you for this opportunity to read your book, I genuinely enjoyed it.
