How To Make Your Food Famous by London food photographer Kimberly Espinel offers tips and tricks of the trade for those who know that breakfast isn't truly eaten until it is Instagrammed. How To Make Your Food Famous is a good entry point for newcomers to the world of food photography and social media content creation. Espinal, who hosts a vegan food photography and styling blog, offers practical and actionable advice for aspiring food bloggers and social media enthusiasts who want to up their game when it comes to their photography.

The book offers essays by Espinel and her cohorts on every angle, including the gear needed (or really, what you don't need), styling tips, lighting, trends, phone videos, and much more. I found many of the photographs particularly interesting because they illuminated how styling and props could elevate a snapshot into a culinary creation. How To Make Your Food Famous has an easy-to-read format: short and snappy, if you'll forgive the pun --perfect for our world of constant distractions.

The essays are by a broad range of photographers and food influencers, which helps to ensure the advice is varied and accessible. This makes for a strong compilation of advice food content creators of all ages looking to enhance their presence on platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok. Espinel's book doesn't just focus on the technical aspects of photography. It also considers social media strategy, offering insights on how to grow a following with a view towards potentially monetizing one's food content.

How To Make Your Food Famous is a solid primer for those at the beginning of their food photography journey by providing an accessible and engaging introduction to sharing food online.

This book is an excellent starting point for anyone looking to elevate their food content on social media—whether you're an aspiring food blogger, a casual Instagrammer, or a seasoned influencer. While the book isn’t lengthy, it’s incredibly well-organized and packed with short, insightful essays covering everything from styling and storytelling to lighting, gear essentials (or those you don’t need), and building your brand.
It offers practical, actionable tips—making the book feel like a friendly conversation with people who’ve already walked the path. Whether it's advice on choosing the right garnish, nailing phone photography, improving photo composition, or honing your niche, the book is rich with guidance that’s both accessible and inspiring.
Particularly valuable are the sections on food styling and photography—complete with ideas on props, lighting tricks, and ways to transform an ordinary food snap into a mouth-watering visual. Even seasoned content creators will find useful takeaways. I found the photography tips game-changing; they will surely help improve the visual appeal of the posts almost instantly.
What sets this book apart is its approach. It’s not just about beautiful photos—it also dives into content strategy, consistency, growing your audience, and even monetizing your work. Interviews with successful food influencers provide a variety of perspectives, adding authenticity and depth. This makes the book much more than a how-to guide—it’s a behind-the-scenes look at what it really takes to stand out in the crowded world of food content.
Whether you're looking to build a serious brand or just want your food photos to look a bit more delicious, this book offers a well-rounded, visually stunning, and motivating guide to making your food shine online.

This is an excellent book for people who want to be successful as food content creators. It features double page spreads from a wide variety of successful food influencers on TikTok, instagram and YouTube with advice and examples of their posts. There is also some advice from the author on things like photography and what types of foods are the most popular.

I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.

I really enjoyed this book of tips and tricks as well as interviews with food influencers. As someone who is an avid photographer, but focuses on landscapes, I feel like I learned a bit about food photography as well. Great pictures made it a pleasure to read as well!

Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – White Lion for the ARC!

I picked this book up not because I was interested in becoming a food influencer but because I was interested in finding out more about better food photography. Unfortunately, this book didn't cover much about that. Most of the book was interviews with food influencers about how they grew their social media presence.

This book pointed out to me how not into social media I am. I had never heard of any of the people in this book. LOL

There was a lot of nice photography in the book and inspiring stories but I don't know how valuable the advice here really is. It was mostly about making sure you pick a niche and post consistently. Everyone knows that. It seemed more like a high level overview than really getting into details.

I expected there to be more on food styling / photography (only about 10 pages). The focus was much more on portraits of online influencers, interspersed with broad tips for growing your following.
