Including a mixture of modern and traditional spells and rituals, from an elemental spell to manifest your dreams, to a tarot spell to attract romantic love, there’s something in this definitive spell book for every Witch.”
My Thoughts As with all of Lindsay’s previous books, 'The Witch’s Book of Spells' is an accessible and reassuring guide for beginner witches looking to get started in spell casting. Blending traditional and contemporary magical ideas this compendium features spells and rituals for every occasion.
The first section of the book offers an introduction to spell casting that’s great for beginners. It covers the basics: grounding, cleansing, and should you choose to, casting a circle. There’s also plenty of helpful answers to questions often overlooked, like how long it might take a spell to work, and why, occasionally, they don’t appear to have worked at all.
The main chunk of the book focuses on a whole host of different spells and rituals. The contents page will come in handy if there’s something specific you’re looking for as there’s a lot! If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, then it’s a joy to flip through the book and explore all of the beautifully curated spells. I’m sure you’ll happen across something you didn’t know you needed.
Some of my favourite spells in the book include: the whisker wish spell bottle – which is a good luck charm to help with manifesting, the whole chapter on protection spells, and because I’m currently having a moment with Lilith, the LIlith empowerment spell – to call back your power – sounds amazing.
Each spell and ritual has all the information you need: the best time to conduct the magic, some key details/information, the ingredients, tools and a step by step method to carry it out effectively.
The last section of the book covers correspondences to help with further spell creation. It includes herbs, spices, resins, flowers, crystals, and colours. Although a good starting point for beginners, there are only a few options. Eventually you will need a more comprehensive book or guide to spell ingredients as your craft develops. I would advise using this to start and then, after further reading and research, creating a record of your own correspondences.
Lastly, (but by no means least) I have to mention the beautiful illustrations that accompany the information and spells. Viki’s designs add the perfect touch of magical, witchy whimsy throughout.
Overall, I really enjoyed this latest offering from Lindsay. As a fellow Yorkshire Witch I loved looking into her personal grimoire and spell creation. She blends traditional and contemporary witchcraft perfectly.
This was a wonderful book of simple spells and rituals for easy everyday magick. This contains spells for seasons and sabbats, moon magick; money, prosperity, and abundance; career and job ambitions; success and happiness; protection; well-being, and so much more. These spells and rituals use simple ingredients that can easily be found in your kitchen or at your local store.
Squire has compiled a great collection of simple spells that are easy to follow and find the ingredients for. I really appreciate providing spells that are relatively simple to do, like less than 10 steps, because I don’t have a lot of time to do big fancy spells or rituals. There was also a great variety in the types of spells that were included (i.e. jar, candle, tea, etc.).
Overall, if you are looking for a great beginner book of spells or just more simple spells to do, I highly recommend this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Leaping Hare Press for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I read a book a few years back by Lindsay Squire and loved it so much I had to buy a hard copy after it came out, so I was prepared for this one. If this was anything like her book on tarot, I was fully expecting to buy a hard copy of this one too, because I like Squire’s straightforward writing style and her way of breaking down concepts so that I can understand everything easily the firs time I read about it. (I wound up owning the hard copy of this one too).
To start with, there are these adorable little illustrations on nearly every page. They’re related to what is being discussed, and it reinforced what was on the page. In some cases, it’s a depiction of a diagram or setup that should be copied, while in others, it’s a rune, or a cute image of an ingredient that is central to the spell or recipe.
The book opens with an introductory discussion covering spell casting, which covers information that isn’t just useful to beginners, but can benefit more experienced practitioners as well. From there, it dives right into spells and rituals, touching on so many areas. There are spells and rituals devoted to specific seasons and sabbats, as well as the highly varied specializations, including: moon magick, finances and prosperity, employment and ambition, peace and happiness, good fortune, protective magic, health and well-being, self-care and self-love, psychic abilities, ancestor connections, home and kitchen witchery, family and friends, and love and romance.
In the other Squire book I read, she emphasized the importance of tweaking things to make them your own and working with what you have. She carries that same tone into this book, and I love that. While all of her spells include “ingredients” that are relatively simple to get, she also includes a note that it is okay to work with what you’ve got and make substitutions if there is an ingredient that you don’t have. At the end of the book, there’s a list of correspondences, to make it easier to find an ingredient that can work as a substitute.
Unlike other spell books that I’ve seen, where the majority of them look really cool but aren’t the type that I’m going to be using any time soon, this one is absolutely full of spells and rituals that I will be using. There is also a note before each spell letting readers know when the best time to do the spell is, whether it is a sabbath, a weekday, or a moon phase. Overall, this is a fantastic book and I’m so glad that I have a hard copy on my shelf. Just a heads up—if you like to flag pages, beware, because you might run out of flags before pages

Book Review: The Witch's Book of Spells by Lindsay Squire & Viki Lester
Rating: 4 Stars
I recently had the pleasure of reviewing "The Witch's Book of Spells: Simple Spells for Everyday Magick" by Lindsay Squire, beautifully illustrated by Viki Lester, and it was quite the enchanting experience! As someone who's dabbled in witchcraft but never fully committed, this book felt like a welcoming embrace from the witching world.
This book serves as a unique guide that invites you to tap into your inner witch with a delightful collection of spells and rituals. Drawing from Squire’s personal grimoire, it's organized in a way that makes it super easy to navigate. Whether you’re interested in the different moon phases, zodiac signs, or seasonal energies, there’s a spell for every aspect of life. From protection and hex breaking to manifestations of love and abundance, the breadth of topics covered is impressive. The spells vary in complexity too—from quick five-minute rituals to more detailed practices—making it perfect for witches at any stage of their journey.
One of the things I absolutely love about this book is that it serves as a helpful intro guide for beginners. For someone just starting out, the wealth of information and detailed instructions is invaluable. Squire has compiled a fantastic collection of spells that are not only easy to follow but also require ingredients that are often simple to find. I really appreciate how accessible this makes practicing witchcraft; it’s less daunting and much more inviting!
The illustrations by Viki Lester add an extra layer of charm. They are colorful and eye-catching, perfectly complementing the text and enhancing the overall experience. Each page feels like a little piece of magic itself, guiding you through the spells with visual inspiration.
Overall, I’d give The Witch's Book of Spells a solid four stars. The Witch's Book of Spells is a collection of over 100 spells and rituals perfect for beginner and seasoned witches. Within this treasure trove of a book, you'll find a spell or a ritual for any occasion you can think of, all of them organized by theme.
The book is broken into two parts, the first being an introduction to spellcasting, giving the reader background information on what spells are, how long they take, and what to do before you cast your spell.
The second part is where all the spells and rituals are, each chapter dedicated to a different theme such as sabbats, moon magick, protection, good luck, etc.
Sometimes in witchcraft books the introduction can feel a bit repetitive, every book going through the same basics of what witchcraft is but I found this book's introduction to be quite refreshing as it dove into aspects of spells and magick that I hadn't seen before.
I especially loved the section that went into detail about why a spell might not work and how to rework and write your spells! There is even a section at the end of the book that goes into correspondences of popular herbs, spices, crystals, etc. so that you can craft and create your spells.
I appreciated how Lindsay included spells that were not only powerful but didn't require a ton of difficult ingredients, making it a great resource to have for witches of all walks and skill sets. Each spell or ritual included a list with the ingredients, tools, method, and the best time to cast/practice.
Overall, this book is fantastic for both beginner and advanced witches. It has a ton of different spells and rituals with various themes as well as easy how-to guides and information.
TL;DR - Great information on the inner workings of spell work - The book has two parts, an introduction to spell casting and spells & rituals - Many different spells and rituals with various themes - Spells and rituals are great for beginners and use accessible ingredients - Easy to navigate list of correspondences at the end of the book
If you’re looking for a magical recipe book, this is the best choice because it truly is a recipe book for witches. All the recipes can easily be incorporated into everyday life. Everything is explained clearly and step by step: the ingredients for each spell, how to prepare them, and how to perform the spell itself. And you really don’t need to imagine anything complicated.
The book also contains plenty of food recipes whose preparation and consumption are tied to different witchcraft traditions, so with the right intention, they can be used as spells as well. Alongside these, you’ll also find more traditional spellwork in the book.
The chapters are divided according to intention, making it super easy to find exactly the type of recipe you’re looking for. Each one includes when and during which phase or season it’s best to perform it, what it’s good for, how to use it, plus the ingredients and instructions. And all of this is accompanied by stunning illustrations.
Lindsay Squire’s books are my absolute favourites when it comes to witchy topics, but this one is different from her previous works, here you get only recipes, just waiting for you to bring them to life.
The Witches Book of Spells by Lindsey Squire is a well written book with info that can be referred to on many occasions. It is suitable for a beginner as the first chapter covers the basics of spellcasting. The chapters are divided up into categories you'd expect to find in a book of spells along with rituals and recipes. The color scheme and art are pleasing, and it's a book that will inspire you magically as you flip through the pages. For those who already own a spellbook or two, there's probably nothing here that you haven't seen before. But, if you're looking for this type of book or are a fan of the author, I would definitely recommend it because it is up to date and very useful.
Thank you to Leaping Hare Press and NetGalley for this eARC for review.
This book is well organized, informative, and contains a lot of good information for those like myself who have always fancied ourselves a bit witchy.
I really enjoyed the way the author used different sections to organize her workings, and I took notes on many of them to try in future. I really loved her vivid explanation of the grounding ritual and the way her workings are truly about centering and focusing your energy. I also loved the section at the end about all the different correspondences for the crystals, herbs, days of the week, and more, so helpful! I am looking forward to trying some of her workings for myself!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.
First, I loved how easily this spell book was written - spells were well written and easy to do. I loved the pictures and how much color was in them and I also really loved how this book was such an easy read for me to get through I could easily read through some of the Spells and see if I had done the ingredients and see if I needed to do that spell at this time it's a super simple spell book to have on your shelf and I appreciated that as a baby witch and I have plans on possibly buying this for my witchcraft shelf this year.
I picked this book after a rewatch of "Practical Magic", the cult movie that is reportedly being revived for a modern take. For a curious dabbler this book is a great entry point, with really beautiful graphics and "spells" with an emphasis on grounding and energy - with the whole thing feeling akin to a wellness ritual. It also covers a wide variety of life instances, family, abundance, career, health and relationships. It acts more like a manual/textbook and while I didn't read it cover to cover, it was a fun book to have on hand for a tongue-in-cheek solution to fix my friend's love life!

I've followed Lindsay on Instagram for a long time, and I was so excited to see that she'd written a book of spells. This book is well-organized by different topics (love, career, family, protection, etc.), and also by seasons and moon phases. There are so many spells and rituals, and most use easy-to-find ingredients. The correspondence section at the end is also helpful for those who want to mix and match ingredients but keep the essence of a spell. This would be a great resource for any witchy person looking for a general selection of spells and rituals.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I have to admit, I’m still not sure how much stock I put in modern day witchery and spells but this was an interesting read nonetheless. The way in which it was broken up makes it easier to read or locate the type of assistance you need and some of the spells/recipes were interesting, like the tea for better connections and the bath soak to reduce anxiety. I do think that some of these may be able to help somewhat, as the ingredients in the tea magick for calm have been researched as some form of calming scent or mild tranquilliser so they should help calm an individual regardless of any incantation.
I love this book. This is a great introduction to Magick, even for a beginner. It is very informative and includes everything you need to know in a clear and concise way. There is a great contents page so you can find exactly what you are after. Very easy to dip in and out of. There is a great introduction which explains Magic and Spells. Then there is an extensive list of spells - lots to aid personal development and growth.
The writing is empowering and thought provoking. The cover is very cute too. Thanks to NetGalley for this addition to my library!

“The Witch's Book of Spells: Simple Spells for Everyday Magick,” by Lindsay Squire is not only a wonderful book for those of whom are new to the practice but the book is a great resource to reference by established practitioners. I loved the variety of knowledge that covers pretty much every angle. I think that “The Witch’s Book of Spells…” is worth a buy! This book is not only a powerful tool but also a very intuitive, easy to read guide. I’d like to give this a solid 4.5 stars!
I LOVED this book! A fun introduction to spells to bring some magic to everyday life. Great selection of manifestation, healing and everyday magick. A big plus is the section in the back which shares the meanings of different herbs, crystals and colours to help those starting their journeys
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 stars

(Arc Review) I absolutely love this book, the information presented here is super useful and easy to read and understand. Also the illustrations are so beautiful and fitting to each part of the book 😍 I think it's great for beginners as it covers many key aspects to start practicing, but at the same time it can be enjoyed for more experienced practitioners to find new perspectives or new ideas for spells and rituals. Can't wait to read more of Lindsay's books ❤️
Great reference guide and inspiration source. The various categories of spells and rituals contained rites of all kinds, meaning there is something for everyone. I loved that Squire tried to keep the ingredients/materials lists to those that are common or easily obtained, and I appreciated her reference lists of correspondences - very helpful. I wish there were some photographs or illustrations of different things that may be unfamiliar to beginners, but overall, this book is good and useful.
This is an interesting book. I enjoy the way it breaksdown every area of witchcraft and seasons. I really love the recipes as well. The opening of the book is great and really br aks down how to start your spells and tips and tricks, it wonderful. If you have a curiosity related to spells and rituals I highly recommend this book.
I really like this. I think if you've got an interest in like spells, magic, this is a really good base level for you. So it would be a really good like coffee table book.
I think you know everyone's got to start somewhere and this is accessible. It's very user friendly. and I think there's something even for the most experienced witch.
A fun and great read for new and more practiced witches alike. I highly recommend this book to have in your magical library. I voluntarily read this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
