OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

As a huge bird lover that does amateur bird photography as often as I can, this book was basically written for me! I am so so glad it didn't let my high hopes down.

What I loved about this book is that it covers every continent and that there are so many different environments included. From remote islands, to rainforests and cities. Every kind of environment is included and that means that SO many types of birds are too.
I loved the variety in birds because every birder has their own favourites. There were sites for birds of prey, songbirds and flightless birds. From the tiniest fairy wren to huge andean condors. It is just a wonderful array of birds.

I loved the set up of the book and I especially loved that it tells you how accessible each site/area is. As a disabled person, that was hugely helpful for me as I was tabbing my way through the book and the possible places I could go in the future.
The writing was good and informative and I felt it gave just enough information. The facts about when is best to visit was particularly helpful. I do wish every bird picture was labelled however so it's easy to know which bird it is for the more obscure ones. That's the only reason this book doesn't get 5 stars.

Overall, this is a brilliant travel book for birders, but you don't have to love birds to enjoy it. As long as you love nature and animals and the great outdoors, this book will give you SO many amazing places to dream about visiting!

Please note that I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is like reading about the joy of birding, as narrated by the British naturalist David Attenborough.
Borrowing this book is like winning a lottery ticket to multiple air tickets (to 60 of the world’s most memorable birdwatching sites).
