Such a great, well designed book. I immediately purchased it. If you want a clear introduction to book binding, this is it. It won’t have all the traditional binding styles, but it explains things so well. It would be a great start.

For professional reasons, I read this book and found all the projects really beautiful and inspirational. However, I’ve never wished more for a digital companion to an analog medium—the instructions often cut off just before the final steps, making it quite difficult for complete novices like me to bridge the gap.

“The true joy of making may not lie in the finishing of any one item, or in its use; but in the widening and deepening of thought that comes from the moving of one’s hands”

Contains a good list for basic tools and material and a multiple of projects of intermediate level. I'm tempted to pick up a copy, my books on the subject are more traditional and there's not much overlap.
