“Research finds that friendships between women are particularly beneficial to our health. Clinical psychologist and author Molly Millwood describes this as “The Female Effect,” which is “when two (or more) women who know and trust each other simply spend time together, they experience increases in oxytocin, which in turn increase feelings of empathy and fondness for one another and decrease cortisol, which is the stress hormone.”
For women, camaraderie is also good for our careers: a 2019 study of recent MBA grads, for example, found that women who have a strong circle of friends are more likely to get executive positions with high pay.”
