The book its pretty much exactly what the title and cover image are - a series of timelines on various topics all surrounding Lego.
Why the high rating - well a major part of that is due to me being brought up on Lego through my childhood - to the point one relative would buy a new set every birthday to add to the growing collection.
So it was sheer joy to recognise so many sets that I have either seen or more importantly owned through the years and what they signified to the on-going Lego story. This I will say is speaking to the true fan of the little plastic blocks as there are so many facts and images that had the nostalgia flooding back.
A fascinating insight into the history of one of the longest-running toy companies in the world. A brilliantly set out and easy to follow book, which has certainly made me want to invest in a few more Lego sets. Whether my bank account agrees with me is another matter!
This is a really neat book for people looking to get into the history of LEGO the toy. It touches on LEGO the company, but it’s more focused on the development and evolution of the toy, sets, and lines throughout the years. The timeline format does get a bit formulaic over hundreds of pages, but it’s an effective tool and paired with excellent photographs, decent captions, and even the odd amusing pun. As with any book that has to pick and choose from so wide a subject matter, I found some of the included sets to be poor choices when chosen over better, more well received sets, but that’s the nature of the beast.
