The voice on the radio saved his life.
But when he discovers who she is…it just might cost him everything.

Axel Mulligan was built to be a Coast Guard rescue swimmer. He could swim faster, endure longer and became a miracle for those in peril in the sea. Until a tragedy destroyed him and sent him home, to Alaska.

Now, three years later, he’s not going to let the past repeat itself, so as an Air One rescue swimmer, he’ll do anything to save lives. Including lose his own---which is what he expects when he goes into the icy waters of the Bering Sea, trying to rescue a cruise group of tourists. But for the voice on the other end of the Ham radio, he might have given up, let hypothermia win.

But it didn’t. Now he’ll do anything to find the voice and thank her.

Except the voice—Flynn Turnquist—is not who he thinks. A national wildlife researcher, she’s deep in the bush, tracking wolf pack patterns. Or is she? In fact, she’s a former cop, tracking down a serial killer. And she’s close enough to see his handiwork in the trail of bodies. She nearly had him—until he escaped into the Bering Sea. But she just knows he’s still alive…and she’s sure she’s on his trail…

When Axel finds Flynn…and what she’s really up to, it stirs up a terrible nightmare he’s been dodging for years—the kidnapping and death of his own cousin. Worse, he’s led the killer right to her doorstep. Now, it’s a race through Alaska to stay alive… and when tragedy strikes again, he must choose between rescue or redemption…

An exhilarating adventure through the Alaskan Wilderness!

I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.

I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.

Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.

Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.

Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.

Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.

I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. And, if you're interested, sign up for my newsletter, a quarterly sneak peek into upcoming releases and projects. Thank you for your interest and support.

God Bless and Happy Reading!

One Last Chance is the second of the Alaska Air One Rescue series where danger, beauty, and the wilds of Alaska play a huge part of the story. As all books by SMW, this story was non-stop action and suspense. Axel and Flynn met over the waves of ham radios. She is in Alaska to find her twin sister. She is a police detective from Minneapolis and he is a rescue swimmer. Only now he is in a boat going down trying to find someone out there to hear him. She is in the wilderness in a cabin. The two are such a hoot when they finally meet and are perfect for each other but how can that work with them living in different states with different careers? And, a serial killer is loose. That is what Flynn does for a living, finds killers. Axel rescues people. This book kept me turning the pages with all the action but there are serious and profound thoughts about faith, pride, and giving God the control. Looking forward to Moose's story next.

An exciting second installment in the Alaska Air One Rescue series!

Susan May Warren is one of my favorite authors, and I always appreciate getting the chance to read one of her books.

One Last Chance was full of well-developed characters. Axel and Flynn were both sympathetic main characters. Poor Axel had a lot of regrets that affected his life, as did Flynn. Their first "meeting" was epic. You'll have to read it to see what I'm talking about. The supporting characters (whom I know we'll see more of in future books) were great as well. One thing that did get on my nerves a bit was the preoccupation with being/not being a hero. This point has been included in a lot of the Susan May Warren books I've read, and I think I'm just a little tired of it.

The plot contained plenty of high stakes, adventure, and tender moments to keep me flipping pages. As usual, Susan May Warren's writing style fit the story well, and I appreciated that she kept both the romance and language clean. One of the kisses did get a little descriptive for me, but it still stayed well within the realm of "clean."

Overall, One Last Chance was an action-packed read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction, romance, and action/adventure novels. I'm looking forward to reading the third book in the series!

“There are things you can change and things you can’t, and knowing the difference is the key to a happy life.”

Allow Susan May Warren to whisk you away to the town of Copper Mountain in Alaska where you’ll join Axel Mulligan and Flynn Turnquist and discover for yourself the danger in continuously reaching for happy moments when you should be reaching for joy.

I loved my time with the hunky Air One rescue swimmer and the former cop now a national wildlife researcher in the Alaskan bush where they were forced to decide between rescue or redemption. Warren paints her characters' vivid backstories with such detail and emotion that you’ll feel like you know them. She then plops them in carefully crafted situations where they need to face some difficult truths and prioritize things before they can move on. Her ability to write slowly simmering attraction, combine it with hair-raising adventure and a fight for survival story is phenomenal. This is my fifth book by this author - I love her romantic suspense stories set in Alaska.

This redemption story highlights Proverbs 3: 5-6 about trusting God and Matt 10:29-31about the sparrow. I enjoyed this story; it had me considering all the ways that light overcomes the darkness.

“There are things you can’t change and things you can’t, and knowing the difference is the key to a happy life.”

Oh my goodness. I don’t think I breathed the entire time I was reading One Last Chance by Susan May Warren. When it wasn’t because of the suspense thread (serial killers!) or the adventure thread (some really close call rescues!), it was because of the intense chemistry and smokin’ hot kisses between Axel and Flynn. Whew!!! I’m still fanning over here – and that definitely is NOT a complaint.

Axel and Flynn are such great characters with engaging personalities and emotional backstories. And these two are so gone over each other so quickly… but the insta-attraction-must-kiss-you-may-be-falling-in-love-with-you-already absolutely makes sense with them because of the emotionally-intense initial contact and first in-person encounter they have. That kind of ‘meet cute’ would certainly spawn some immediately-deep feelings. But of course Susan May Warren doesn’t leave them in that deep end with only physical attraction and sizzling kisses to steer their relationship-kayak. No, she puts them in one situation after another that force them to peel back some long-buried layers and in the process shape those passionate feelings for each other into something that will stand the test of time.

“But with God there are no what-ifs. There is only truth. And the truth is that you’re not in charge, God is, and no matter what happens, he is good.”

The suspense and adventure elements in One Last Chance had me on the edge of my seat, glued to the page, completely immersed in the fights for survival as well as the serial killer investigations and what happened to Flynn’s twin sister. All of which are very personal for our protagonists, kicking that tension up even further as I grew to really love Axel and Flynn so it became personal for me too. Warren captures the wild elements of Alaska so tangibly, the harshness and the beauty – and the parts that are a combination of two. I could feel the icy spray of water and the sharp rocks, the powerful wind and the wet snow… not to mention the chilling fear as the killer gets closer, the danger gets more terrifying, and the outcome gets less certain. Throw in some stunning twists and … yeah… I couldn’t have put this book down if I’d wanted to. Which I didn’t.

Bottom Line: In One Last Chance, Susan May Warren takes readers on a bumpy and completely compelling ride full of danger, mystery, surprise turns, romance, family, friendship, and faith. Let’s just say she keeps the local hospital hopping with daring rescues, close calls, and the fact that our hero & heroine are stuck in a killer’s crosshairs. Make sure you, dear reader, are also taking appropriate precautions in case you don’t remember to breathe from the pulse-pounding suspense or you find yourself in a swoon from the wowza kisses. This book really should come with a hazard warning for all of the above reasons but what a way to go! I loved book one but wow … One Last Chance just became my favorite. So far. Because I have a feeling that Moose and London’s respective stories are going to have my full attention as well.

What an intense ride. This books has it all man against man. Man against nature. Romance. Serial killer/s. And so much more. It ends with a bit of a cliff hanger so my one regret is that I left book three at home. Another great read from one of my favorite romantic suspense authors.

One Last Chance is book two in the Alaska Air One Rescue series. I read book one and loved it, so I was highly anticipating reading One Last Chance. It definitely surpassed my expectations! Now, you could probably jump in and enjoy this book even if you didn’t read the first one. You will just get a more complete understanding of the team and characters who are part of the rescue group if you have also read One Last Shot. One Last Chance references a couple of situations from book one which directly relate to the storyline, but the author explains what happened well enough to follow along if you are only reading book two. This novel also has characters from The True Lies of Rembrandt Stone series. I have not read that series and did not have a problem following along.

I loved the way Axel and Flynn met and connected. It definitely fit for these two individuals who continually give their all for their jobs of rescue swimmer and detective. These two are also both extremely dedicated to their callings, sometimes to the detriment of their own lives. They both battled feelings of guilt and sometimes questioned God’s involvement in their lives. They both had intense faith journeys to walk through in this story, as well as a love that grew for each other quickly and completely.

Axel and Flynn were pretty amazing to read about. They threw themselves into all they did and were both so good at their specialties. However, they had to question how a relationship together might actually work and if there was any way to make that happen. I loved the chemistry between these two and I love the cover for this novel. It looks exactly the way I imagined Axel would look.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I couldn't wait to read more about Moose and Axel when One Last Shot came out. In One Last Chance, Axel is a rescue swimmer who is willing to put himself in danger to save others- and maybe for a little while, push back at the ghosts that haunt him from rescues he failed.
Flynn is a female cop and serial killer hunter who is good at what she does, but she meets Axel when she's taken time off from her job to pursue a personal matter. Boy, I loved the way they met and really everything about these two.

Warren also does a fantastic job of writing surrounding community and fully fleshed out supporting casts. The only trouble I had with this book was how MANY characters there are - it's impossible to keep up with them all.
While I typically don't "enjoy" serial killer novels, this was one and it was my choice to read it or not, not to judge it for being what it is. I don't want to give away spoilers, but I was able to handle the content in this book ok even though I obviously didn't love the scenes with the evil character.

As usual, there was faith woven throughout the story and the main characters grew closer to God because of people in their lives who were bold enough to speak truth to them.

I'm so grateful to the author for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book and write my honest thoughts on this review.

Okay. Wow! ONE LAST CHANCE, book 2 in the Alaska Air One Rescue series is Susan May Warren’s best yet! Susan continues to build a community of characters that only get stronger and more developed. Couple that with action and romance and be prepared to finish this book in one sitting!

THE STORY: Axel Mulligan will do anything—anything—to save lives. As an Alaska Air One Rescue swimmer, he has placed himself in harm’s way too many times. When he ends up in an impossible life-threatening situation, he calls out on a random CB channel and a voice belonging to police detective, Flynn Turnquist hears his pleas. Axel wants to find that voice.

Flynn has her own life-threatening situation—find her missing sister. After three years, her twin is presumed dead. Two hearts sealed in their own pain. But is there one last chance for happiness?

Susan is one of my favorite authors. I can depend on her for thoughtful, faith filled, and crazy thrilling stories. Her characters are so real, I miss them when the book is finished. Fortunately, they’ll most likely appear in another story!

Highly recommended to readers of romantic suspense, Christian mystery and suspense, and clean reads that keep the reader turning those pages. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

I received an ARC from the publisher for my honest review.

“Faith is believing even when you don’t feel like it. You really think that God doesn’t care even after he sent Axel to save you? Or sent you to save Axel?”

“Faith isn’t weakness. Faith is aligning yourself with true power. True control.”

Wow, I knew I would like Axel story, and ended up loving it!

From the start, with Flynn catching a serial killer (along with Burke and Eve from the Rembrandt Stone series – a 5-star series and a cameo I loved in this book), to Axel’s near dying rescue at sea, the action, suspense, and danger did not die down.

Flynn and Axel’s meeting was sweet and different and set up a great connection for the rest of the book. I loved the titanic references for their own relationship.

Flynn and Axel are both in dangerous careers, which was evident with all the near-death experiences, but also made their emotional struggles relevant to them and kept the book real. I loved all the spiritual wisdom which easily flowed through the story.

There were a lot of characters from Susan May Warren’s other series. Serious fans like me will adore catching up to all these characters, but if this is your first book by the author, or you are still catching up, you will not be lost.

The set up of Moose’s story for his book coming next, and the cliffhanger at the end, made me want to have immediate access to book three.

Another great action-packed book fans will love and which will turn newbies to fans of this author’s work.

“He’s interested in your joy. Happiness is circumstantial. It’s fleeting and momentary. Joy is . . . it’s a state of being. It’s living in the place where you know that you’re loved by God, that he is at work in you, and that you can trust his control. And that beats any kind of happiness, all day long.”

“Do you? Just because you thought of your life one way doesn’t mean that God can’t change course. He knows our hearts better than we do. It’s probably good to listen.”

One Last Chance
by Susan May Warren
Book 2 in the Alaska Air One Rescue series
Rating: 4.5/5

Wow! SMW does it again! I literally lost sleep reading this fast-paced story that kept me guessing. The story hooks you from the start and I was quite distracted from work while reading. I have read the first book in this series and it was also so good. I don't know how the author keeps coming up with such thrilling, adventurous, believable stories that not only have clean romance and chemistry but also weaves her faith throughout in a non-preachy way. I also loved the callbacks to previous characters from the Rembrandt Stone series and the Sky King Ranch series which I also really enjoyed. As you can tell, I am a huge fan and I cannot wait to read more.

Highly recommend if you enjoy clean, faith-filled, romantic suspense that will take you on an adventurous ride through stunning Alaska wilderness!

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

From the moment Flynn picks up Axel’s radio SOS, the chemistry between them kept getting better and better. They worked well together as they searched for Flynn’s missing sister and the infamous Midnight Sun serial killer. Flynn was a strong female character with common sense, but she wasn’t one of those women that tried to do everything alone. She let Axel help her. Axel’s selflessness was very touching. The descriptions of the Alaska wilderness are vivid, and Warren painted scenes that I could see in my mind. A master at romance as well as suspense, Warren created just the right amount of sizzle between Axel and Flynn. The story kept me guessing and had a nice faith element. It was hard to put it down and is definitely a super read.

Detective Flynn Turnquist and her team capture a serial killer they have been looking for. Then she turns her profiling skills toward Alaska where her twin sister disappeared three years before. Kennedy might have been a victim of the Midnight Sun Killer, but Flynn feels that her sister is still alive.

Swimmer and rescuer for Air One, the company owned by his brother, Axel Mulligan carries the title "hero" for the people he has rescued and a load of guilt for the ones he could not save. Called out in a storm for a rescue attempt, Axel gets everyone off a boat that's going down, but he's trapped inside.

Flynn is visiting a cabin where Kennedy was last known to be when a voice comes over the ham radio asking for someone to notify his brother he's alive and trapped inside a sinking boat. She stays with him, talks him through it, and tells him where to find the life raft.

Then Axel joins Flynn in tracking her sister and the Midnight Sun Killer, who had killed his cousin years before. The closer they get to Kennedy and the killer the more dangers they face.

This was an exciting read with fast pacing. I enjoyed the interactions between Axel and Flynn and seeing some of the characters from some of her other series. One of the dilemmas the protagonists face is that of whether one of them should give up their job to make a marriage work, something more common in today's world than in the past. Axel and Flynn also deal with guilt and not being perfect. Other than kises, there's no overt sexual contact and no bad language. Warren adds a great twist at the end.

"Faith isn't weakness. Faith is aligning yourself with true power. True control."

Alaska Air One Rescue keeps getting better and better with each book. I loved Axel and his dedication for search and rescue. His heroic heart was so easy to love. And walking through his faith journey of learning to let go of control and not dwelling on the past was a great reminder of who really is in control. Flynn was as intense as Axel - experienced in hunting down serial killers but also desperately missing her twin sister who is deemed missing. The battles they waged against the mighty rivers in Alaska were fueled by adrenaline and the suspense surrounding a serial killer on the loose was fast-paced and intricately woven. Axel and Flynn were so lovely together and their romance was tender and sweet even when their moments were peppered with life-threatening danger.
I loved hanging out with Moose and can't wait for the next book in the series! There are so many cameo appearances of characters from the author's other books that I've lost count. But if you're a fan of Susan May Warren, you will pick up on every single one of them and appreciate them whole-heartedly.

This second installment of the Alaska Air One Rescue series is just as strong as its predecessor, if not even more so. The characters were immediately compelling, and the plot was instantly propulsive. So propulsive, in fact, that it was almost whiplash inducing. There was an incredible amount of tension in this little book. It’s been quite some time since I read a novel in less than 24 hours, but I seriously had a hard time putting this one down.

Axel Mulligan is a formerly Coast Guard rescue swimmer for Alaska Air One Rescue, and he’s also the younger brother of Moose, the owner and boss of the operation. Axel is an incredibly compelling character. He's a hero who refuses to see himself as such, allowing himself to be consumed by what he views as his failures instead. The reason he fights so hard to save so many is that each rescue is a chance to breathe, to get his head about the burden of guilt he bares for happenings beyond his control. This struck me as the dark side of a God complex, seeing yourself as responsible for things completely outside of your control. He took the weight of the world on his shoulders when it was never his to bear, and he hid that burden behind charm and easy smiles.

Flynn Turnquist is a cop with a massive chip on her shoulder. She specializes in hunting down serial killers and is consumed by the one who got away: the Midnight Sun Killer, the likely murderer of her twin sister, Kennedy, who went missing years ago but whose body was never recovered. When she takes some long overdue time off to head to Alaska and retrace her sister’s steps, she finds something unexpected: belonging. And she finds that in large part in Axel. The way the two meet is wholly unique, and is a big contributing factor to why I couldn’t put this book down.

I really like how Warren threads hints to the larger, overarching through-plot of the series into earlier books. Specifically, because I started this book so soon after the first in the series, I remembered some subtle things mentioned in book 1 as they suddenly came into play in this second installment. And this one was seriously stressful. A handful of truly tense, disaster-laced scenes had my white-knuckling my copy, even though I trusted Warren to bring the characters through.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with One Last Chance. It was packed with adventure, suspense, romance, and faith. There was some truly excellent character development, as well. I’m excited to continue into the third installment, One Last Promise, which is Moose’s book.

One Last Chance by Susan May Warren is a thrill-ride from the first page. A turned over boat with someone in a pocket of oxygen. Picking people out of a kayak. Picking people up off the side of the mountain. Plenty of action and movement with this story. Just the way I like them. The setting is beautiful. The hero is brave and will stick with you. Similarly, the heroine has a goal and she won't let anything get in her way. As a wife of a ham-radio operator who helps with emergencies in our county, I enjoyed the unique way that Warren as Axel and heroine meet. Definitely have not seen that set up before. The romance does blossom over the radio and keeps diving deeper as they have to work together in person. Another plot twist is the serial killer on the hunt for his next victim. I enjoy reading stories with serial killers, so this captured my attention too. Overall, One Last Chance by Susan May Warren is a monster of a dramatic search and rescue story that I am so glad that I have pre-ordered a physical copy.

I loved these two characters, but my enjoyment was dimmed by a couple things. One, there were so many characters and how they were connected to each other that I couldn't keep track. Second, while I loved the climactic scene, I found the ending... confusing, at least from the 'solve the mystery' standpoint. Two days later and I'm still trying to figure out the deaths/killers in AK let alone what the ones in Minneapolis have to do with the overall story...

I enjoyed Axel and Flynn's story in One Last Chance, the way they met and are attracted to each other, and their nicknames for each other. Flynn, a cop and serial killer chaser, is in Alaska for personal reasons. Axel, a rescue swimmer for Alaska Air Force One, has his own demons and guilt to contend with. Both of the main characters have some growing they need to do.
From a serial killer to danger and tensions to romance and more, One Last Chance will grab your attention from the start and will hold you captive until the end.

Sakes alive this was a good story! So much action and adventure. I think my favorite part was some characters from other stories by SMW show up! AHHHHHHA

Axel and Flynn have a whirlwind romance after rescuing each other, and he tries to help her find out what might have happened to her twin sister, Kennedy.

Nothing goes smoothly for them, but it'll have Readers on the edge of their seat!

I loved the faith thread in the story! It was so well done. I enjoyed how a variety of supporting characters spoke into Axel and Flynn's lives.

To be honest, at first, I wasn't sure if I liked Flynn. Yes, you need to be strong to hunt serial killers as a profession but I think once Axel came on the scene and started melting her heart, I was all in. I was intrigued by Axel in the first book in this series, and I never had to think about liking his character.

One Last Chance does not let you sit still, it just keeps throwing out new twists, and I was here for it all! Looking forward to finally getting Moose's story!

On. The. Floor.

Just when you thought this series couldn’t get any better, Susie May cranks it up a notch! Reader, this absolutely incredible story has everything: suspense, adventure, redemption, faith, forgiveness, and love! All while dangling from a helicopter, all hyped up on adrenaline!

I loved everything about Axel and Flynn’s journey (from this day forward, can they please forevermore be dubbed Flyxel? Anyone, anyone, out there, agree with me?) They deserve an incredible “ship” name because they were just that easy to “ship”. Their coupling has it all: chemistry, witty banter, growth, not to mention the way they just made each other better. Everything you could want in a relationship!

And: Axel. Oh, Axel. Susie knows how to write a hero’s journey - and boy did we get a hero to fall in love with, in Axel. Wow. I’m still on the floor! Book hangovers are real, people.

Notable Quotables:

- “So that others might live. The Coast Guard creed to save others, no matter the cost. Didn’t matter if he wasn’t with the Guard anymore—the promise still stuck.”
- “A pretty voice, although he might be biased. He’d take any voice on the other end. Still, he wanted to imagine her as pretty, maybe a brunette, someone who wouldn’t give up on him. Mostly that last part.”
- “Flynn still couldn’t believe what she’d witnessed up there. Axel, dangling from a line no bigger than her pinkie finger, a hook on a line. And he’d brought up a scared kid like he might be Superman.”
- “Then she lifted herself up on her toes and kissed him. Slow and perfect and lingering, something meant for heroes and happy endings, stilling all the what-ifs in his heart. And behind them, the Copper River sang a song of applause as the stars came out and smiled.”

Hello! Did I mention Susie May has a way with words? Even in the midst of all the suspense, and tension, and plot twists? Her books are a perfect combination of adrenaline, action, emotion, healing, and redemption.

And can I just address that cliffhanger ending? Hello! I’ve been waiting for Moose’s story since he first showed up, and now, I am going to be hanging by a thread (literally, just like Axel dangling from that AO helicopter) till his book comes out! But please, please bring it on! I’m already strapped in and ready for my next trip up to Alaska on Air One.

“Now, it’s a race through Alaska to stay alive. And when tragedy strikes again, he must choose between rescue or redemption,” The back jacket explains Axel’s dilemma in Susan May Warren’s novel, One Last Chance.

~ What ~
The second book in the Alaska Air One Rescue series, this three-hundred-and-thirty-six-page advanced reader copy targets those who like a Christian contemporary romance about being on a rescue team in the Alaska wilderness while learning about second chances. Containing the word heck, topics of injury, murder, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The ending includes a teaser of the next book in the series, a note to the reader, the author’s biography, and advertisements.

In this second book in the series, Alaskan rescue swimmer Axel has always been the hero, saving others while barely saving himself. When Flynn, an out-of-town detective, tries to find her lost sister, Axel has to take more than one chance to save her while keeping them both safe in the wild elements. As the two search for a serial killer, they must deal with their past guilt and blame by leaning on God’s will.

~ Why ~
This sequel is like a raging water that ebbs and tides as Axel and Flynn try to stay alive, be it in on land or in the water. I liked the vivid descriptions of the Alaskan terrain and how one must stay alert to stay alive. I appreciate how both protagonists wanted to always be in charge, yet each had to deal with their past experiences to find their true selves.

~ Why Not ~
Some may not like a series involving cold, dangerous Alaska and serial killers. Others may not care for one or two rather steamy kissing scenes. Like the prior book in the series, I found some of the characters and plot stereotypical at times.

~ Wish ~
Although there are prayers to God for help and answers, there is no mention of Jesus and the eternal plan of salvation, so any religion trusting any god could be construed. I prefer all pronouns of the Almighty capitalized for reverence.

~ Want ~
If you are into contemporary romances that include serial killers getting tracked down in the backwoods of Alaska, chances are you will enjoy this one and look forward to the next one.

The second book in the Alaska Air One Rescue series is full of action, adventure and all the things you would expect from a Susan May Warren novel.

Axel Mulligan returned home to Alaska after an unfortunate incident while he was working for the Coast Guard three years earlier. Now, he works for the Air One rescue team and is sometimes seen as a wild man that will do anything to save lives. While he is out to help rescue tourists, he ends up being the one that needs to be saved. He hears a voice on the other end of his radio that helps to give him hope and keep fighting. Flynn Turnquist comes to Alaska to find answers and ends up helping save Axel before trying to find a serial killer she has been tracking. Axel now spends his time and energy trying to help Flynn and together they uncover more danger than they could have realized.

The second book in the Alaska Air One Rescue series is a great addition to an action-packed list of books by Susan May Warren. This is a great new series and I loved the second installment. Axel and Flynn were a fantastic protagonist duo. The back and forth between them and the danger they found themselves in only helped to keep me glued to the page to see if they would come out safe and happy in the end. There were plenty of twists and turns, even up until the very end keeping me satisfied with the storyline and how Warren played each detail out. With a lot of Romantic Suspense books, they can end up feeling the same as readers get into the story, and I have had this happen with a book or two of hers, but this one felt fresh and entertaining throughout. I recommend this book to readers that enjoy Susan May Warren’s writing and great romantic suspense.

I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.

The two main characters in this book are plagued with nightmares from their tragic past. It has made them the people they are today, but it has also hurt them in the relationship department as well.

Axel Mulligan always wanted to be a Coast Guard swimmer, and he was good at it, but after a series of occurrences that affected his ability to do his job, he ended up back in Alaska. He is now a rescue swimmer for Air One. Axel is fearless and wants to save everyone, which is how he ends up talking to a woman on a ham radio. They are connected, but they just do not know it yet.

Flynn Turnquist is a detective who chases and apprehends serial killers. She is obsessed with a particular case, which is how she ends up in Alaska on the other end of the radio transmission with Axel. Flynn is battling her own set of demons.

This was a briskly-paced mystery/thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is a great blend of faith-filled suspense and a lesson in knowing our own limitations without limiting the power of prayer. It was an emotional book that had me tied up in knots at times. I felt such empathy for both characters and their battles.

This is one of my favorite quotes: "And when we trust Him, we can know He will be with us, here in the valley or up on the mountain or even in the depths of the sea. And it will be good, even if it doesn't feel that way." Those are some powerful words to live by, especially when we are in the valley.

This book and this series are top-notch. I highly recommend this book and the one before it. Word of warning: you need to find a comfortable spot to read because you will be there until you finish it.

Thank you to Revell Publishers for this ARC through Interviews & Reviews. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This series needs a higher star rating than just 5!!!

I love going back to Alaska in Susan May Warren's books. She brings such adventure and action, and her books are always full of suspense, drama, and amazing sights.
In this story, we are taken on a ride that will keep you holding your breath and praying for the characters even when you know they are not real!
I’m not one for water rescues because I don’t like to hold my breath, and this one triggered all those fears!
Wow, how many lives can one character have? Axel seemed to be able to rise above like a “Phoenix.”
I enjoyed the tension between Axel and Flynn. They dealt with some pretty tough stuff in their lives and thinking. These two were like magnets to each other.
In this book, you will experience real death-dropping action and scenes. The author keeps us on the seat of our chairs, gripping the armrest, trying to breathe.
I’m so glad I’m not one of her characters because of all the things she puts them through. WOW! The action is non-stop and jaw-dropping. The way Susan May Warren describes the mountains in Alaska and the action will leave you feeling you’re right there with each step.
This is why I love all of Susan May Warren’s books and will run to purchase them and read them whenever they come out! All of her books have wonderful life lessons of the love of God, woven in such a way that it is real and not fake or pushed.
True to all of Susie's books, this one is so amazing, and the imagery is out of this world!
It kept me reading late into the night!
You should genuinely pick it up!
WOW WHAT A RIDE!!
The author gave me this book, but this did not influence my review in any way; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

"This was not how he wanted to die. Thank you. Buried alive at the bottom of the ocean, the air slowly turning to poison in the tomb-slash-cabin of the fishing boat. Lady Luck."

And then . . . . . that voice came over his radio again. He'd never met her, but she was effectively throwing him a life line by distracting him from the fact that he might be going down with the ship; quite literally. His nine lives, and all that. Talk about a chance meeting.. . . . Alaska Air One rescue swimmer Axel Mulligan crossing paths with detective Flynn Turnquist from Minnesota . . . . or would they always remain "Jack and Rose"? (cue up music from "The Titanic")

"I fell down a mountain. . . . After someone shot at me."

His little sparrow, in the flesh . . . wait, had she just pointed a gun at him? . . . . for just a minute, before collapsing at his feet. It seems they were playing a game of turn-about-is-fair-play, because now it was Axel coming to Flynn's rescue. Long story short, Flynn had returned to Alaska to find her missing twin while endeavoring to solve a series of murders committed by the Midnight Sun Killer, and just like that! . . . she had a partner.

The amount of adrenaline necessary to rescue everyone in this story is massive, but oh, so satisfying. Admittedly, I got a little lost in the case details (that's why I read books like this more than once!!!), but the characters and their electrifying chemistry?? Nothing short of outstanding. Filled with inspirational truths; "He is not a God of chaos but peace. And when we trust him, we can know that he will be with us, here in the valley or up on the mountain or even in the depths of the sea", it should be obvious by now why I am thrilled that this series is not even close to being finished yet.

Susan May Warren has done it again! One Last Chance is a riveting tale of sorrow, suspense, and redemption.

You can’t get much more beaten down than Axel Mulligan – unless you’re Flynn Turnquist. Drowning in regret, it’s only the hope of making a difference in the future that keeps them going. That very sense of purpose turns them both into the heroes that we readers love to see striding across the pages, saving lives while they save the day. Axel and Flynn do both in turn, but not without high cost to themselves.

It’s that very struggle to determine what the best course of action is, what the right thing to do is, that makes you want to cheer each of them on. Axel’s the kind of hunky, hurting hero you want to sooth, but with Warren dribbling out his sad backstory, you’re not sure whether you’d rather clobber the villain or the author!

And that’s the rub: it’s that very ability to draw you into the story and make you feel a part of the action that sets Warren’s novels apart from the rest. She creates the kind of novels that you can’t possibly put down, but how dare she put these loveable characters in such distress?

That’s exactly why you need One Last Chance on your TBR list. It’s the perfect summer story, where you can enjoy a fast-paced adventure, whether you’re reading beside the pool, with your book club, or in an Alaskan forest.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

A master of balancing fast paced action and heart touching moments, Susan May Warren delivers in this installment of the Alaska Air One!
A fantastic continuation of the characters that we met in book one, with the very special addition of Flynn and the world she is connected to (wink, wink).
This book hit the ground running and never let up!
I love how SMW makes you feel like you are in the action, in the characters head and along for the wild ride of adventure, danger and faith.
Her books continue to be one of my top picks for romantic suspense, because I truly love the characters and always eagerly await the next installment of whatever series she has going.
Axel was awesome in this book. I loved his sence of humor and confidence and at the same time was struggling with the things he considered failures in life.
Paired up with Flynn who wasn't afraid to go into the darkness to hunt criminals, their banter and dynamics felt so unique and made their on page time fantastic to read.
The ending was satisfying with the tease for book three and of course.......I CAN'T WAIT!

One Last Chance is an adrenaline fueled masterpiece from beginning to end.
You don’t want to miss this one!

Flynn’s life is filled with the darkness that follows a job profiling and chasing down serial killers. During her search for her sister in Alaska she meets Axel, a rescue swimmer, over the radio when he’s trapped in a capsized boat.

He searches her out to thank her for being his lifeline and finds her running from a shooter. They are soon pulled into the case of a local serial killer. Each one has a level of pride in their abilities that puts a wall between them and their faith. What will it take to let go and let God?

I love the sense of family in the Air One team and their friends. Having lived in this part of Alaska I can say this series paints an accurate picture of the fortitude, strength, and faith of the people of the area. A shout out for the research it took to make this book show the heart of the community.

This is one of the best romantic suspense books I’ve read and a perfect follow up to One Last Shot, book one in the Alaska Air One Rescue series. I highly recommend it.

I was given a copy courtesy of Revell through NetGalley and Interviews and Reviews. This is my honest opinion of the book.

A good mix of action and suspense, Warren’s One Last Chance also gains points as a clean, sweet romance. The series revolves around a local SAR team working in beautiful but dangerous Alaska. Trapped in a sinking ship during a rescue operation, Alex connects with a woman over the radio. Her voice helps carry him through the ordeal. But the voice on the radio isn’t just anybody’s. It belongs to Flynn, a detective who specializes in serial killers and has come to Alaska seeking to find her twin who went missing years ago … either that or the serial killer responsible.

If you enjoy your romance clean with a large dollop of suspense and action (and this one was quite suspenseful), check out this series. You will not be disappointed.

Though not as obvious as in One Last Shot (hence the 5 stars rather than 4), I still struggled with Ms. Warren’s lack of speech tags at certain times, pulling me out of the story. I know the trend is to avoid speech tags (he said, she said) but a reader should not have to go back to replay the dialogue and figure out who is speaking.
Summing up, I enjoyed this book and look forward to continuing the Alaska Air One Rescue series.
