The usual disclaimer: Matthew and Stefanie Verish (M.S. Verish) are longtime friends, and I helped to edit this book, so there is some bias here. However, I am providing an honest review from this perspective.

Black Earth is an epic fantasy series that follows the adventures of the main characters, Eraekryst and Arythan. I could describe them simply, as an elf and a demon, but readers of the first two books will know those words don't do them justice. They're multi-layered, complicated, and lovable even when they're being difficult. At the beginning of Nightfall, Arythan is preparing to wed his love, Victoria, and welcome his first child, while Eraekryst and his lady, Catherine, have settled down in a town far from their homes. All seems calm, but trouble is brewing. Past evils are bubbling under the surface, getting ready to confront our characters in tragic and heartbreaking ways.

I have been truly lucky to join these characters on their journeys and read these books so closely. This book was satisfying even as it tore me apart. I won't give anything away, but you might want to have tissues handy. Fans will not want to miss this one, and new readers should go back and start with Dawning. Do it now!

Intriguing

This is a book I could not put down. I finished it at four in the morning. The writing was great. The story intriguing. Needing to know what happen to the characters kept me reading. Although, It ripped my heart out stomped on it a couple of times, replaced said heart and repeated. Can't say I quite like that feeling. I have to say I do have mixed feelings about the story.

I loved it!

Erik and Arythan and a beautifully woven trilogy built on their past magical saga. More pain and sadness for both as well as love and tragedy. All three Books should be read and enjoyed....

Okay finish to story

But trying to read partial words is annoying as he'll..or is that 'ell. Half words are just sounds .interpreting while reading is a sincere pain in the neck. Give characters proper language please.

Not to be missed if you are a fantasy lover. I had to keep a box of tissues nearby. You get so caught up in this story that you miss the characters when it ends. I hated to see this one end.
