Fighting for Love

Rate this book
Fighting for someone’s heart is more challenging than fighting for a title.

For a time, many years ago, love had grown, love was made, and in the end … love was lost. The decision to leave had been the worst mistake Shelby Dawson could have ever made. However, at the time—ten years ago—she felt her secret needed to stay hidden, even if it broke her heart and the heart of the man she loved. Back then, he was all hers and she was all his, but now things have changed and he isn’t the same guy she knew.

He happens to be the well-known MMA Heavyweight champion and famous bad boy, Matt ‘The Destroyer’ Reynolds, who once before struggled to help his family pay the bills. Now, he has money flowing with each undefeated win and an insurmountable number of women filling his bed. Everything is perfect for the illustrious fighter, until one day it all changes. In walks the girl from his past, the same girl who promised to stick by him but left and never looked back.

Their second chance to make things right will not come easy, for when one mistake is made an unwelcome consequence soon follows. Someone out there wants to rip them apart and they won’t stop until Matt and Shelby pay the ultimate price … their love.

This is another NA book which does not work for me. As many of you who read my reviews, I have love and hate relationship with NA romance. Some authors are good, some are just bad.

Fighting for Love is a disaster. The plot, the characters, the dialog, the flow nothing is appealing. I understand Miss Dover intended this book for NA. I read Miss Dover previous adult romance and I have to say I am disappointed with Fighting for Love.

I listened until half of the audiobook and I give up.

So many four & five star reviews, I often wonder if I'm reading the same book as everybody else. Okay so while I certainly didn't think it sucked, it was just so over the top in how easily everything turned out okay. At one point the hero says, I hope she can really see that I'm changing, after having been back in her life after a day & a half. And it's a minor plotline, but the thing that put it over the top for me, between a 2 & 3 star rating was the whole issue w/Jace Not a terrible read, but I lost count of how many times I rolled my eyes, never a good sign.

3.75 Stars...

Story... Fighting For Love starts 10 years in the past. Shelby has left the love of her life and it seems things just got a whole lot worse for Shelby...

"Was it karma rearing it's ugly head taunting me for making the wrong decisions in life? Could it honestly be that cruel to make me pay with such a high price?" - Shelby

The present... Shelby is now a famous journalist for one of the most popular sports magazines on the market. It's time to do a spread for an athlete, but to Shelby's horror it is none other than Matt Reynolds the love of her life, who Shelby left 10 years ago and has regretted her decision every day since.

Matt... has come along way in his life in the last 10 years. Matt had a hard childhood looking after his mum and sister, it was hard but Matt always knew he was going places and that he would be alright, that was until the love of his life broke his heart and then becoming someone became Matt's life. Matt wanted to show everyone that he could overcome his past and become someone someday. And he did, this season Matt is back to defend his title. Matt finds out that the magazine Physique wants to do a spread on him and he is stocked but he soon realizes that the person writing the spread is the girl who broke his heart 10 years ago. At first Matt is shocked but then he realizes that he is not letting Shelby walk out of his life again.

"Matt," I whispered breathlessly, "I've missed you so much."

"Then tell me the truth, Shelby, " he breathed, his voice a low growl.

"Did you really stop loving me?"

Straightaway Matt tells Shelby that she is not walking away from him again and Shelby doesn't really want to either. She missed Matt every day they were apart and wants more than anything to be with him... but... Shelby has a big secret, and she knows when Matt finds out she will probably lose him again.

Things are looking up for Matt, he's doing what he loves, fighting, and he now has the love of his life back. But just as things are going really well someone is intent on ruining everything for Matt. Kyle is who Matt will be fighting to hold on to his Heavyweight Title and Kyle plays dirty to get what he wants, and what he wants is Matt off his game and preoccupied with his relationship with Shelby than focused on his fighting. Kyle does everything in his power to ruin Matt and Shelby's relationship and everything to turn Matt from calm and collected before his fights to anger ruling his reactions.

"Kyle deserved to get more than just his ass beat; he needed mental help. I mean, who in their right mind gets off on tormenting others like he does? One word came to mind: psychopath." - Shelby

In trying to find out how Kyle knows so much about Shelby and Matt's past and their present relationship, Shelby finds out that one person close to them is also working against them for their own agenda.

Then Matt finds out Shelby's secret, he has no idea what to do and tells Shelby he needs some to time to process it all, but Shelby knows this is probably goodbye.

"My future... my dreams? Dammit, Shelby, you were my future. You were all I ever wanted. If I had to work ninety hours a week I would've done it just to keep you. How could you do this to me, to us?" - Matt

In Fighting For Love, Matt and Shelby go through a range of emotions dealing with Kyle's tricks and lies. Their jealousy, trust and space to forgive each other are tested throughout the book.

The sex was HOT! and there was a lot! No complaints here!

"Dammit, this feels so good I don't want to stop. I'm going to come so fucking hard in you, angel," he growled.' - Matt

There were parts towards the end of the book that had me sobbing so hard. It was really hard to read about Shelby's past while she was alone. And when Matt finally gets to visit a part of his past I just lost it and had to tell myself to breathe through my tears, because I wasn't about to stop reading.

"Closing my eyes, I leaned over and put my forehead to the soft, green grass below, letting the tears flow freely. I sat there for about an hour, feeling the wind all around me and hearing the tree branches as they swayed back and forth." - Matt

This story does have a HEA. Matt completely won me in this book, he is a beautiful man who had a rough childhood who became a wonderful man and I'm glad he got everything he deserved in the end.

"I'll fight for what's mine, and you, my angel, are mine." - Matt

Why I rated 3.75 stars... I felt their relationship moved very fast, one minute they were alone and each of them living their own lives saying how much their breakup tore them apart and then they see each other and then they are instantly together, after 10 years apart. I would have thought Matt had more questions as to why Shelby left him, but he never really questioned why she left him and why she was so harsh in doing it.

I also found myself VERY FRUSTRATED with the heroine, and because of this I found myself putting the book down often, but the suspense to find out, who and why, was enough to bring me back to their story. I felt that she was babied by her friends and what she did to Matt was (to me) unforgivable, and when Matt found out what she had done and Shelby was hurt, everything turned into poor Shelby again, and Matt actually felt guilty about having to take some time to process what he had found out... GAH! And THEN Shelby still gets to call the shots and tell Matt they need space... well excuse me but if you fuck up that bad you shouldn't get to decide who needs space and time!

Does this mean I didn't like it at all? No, absolutely not, I just needed more balance with the hero and heroine, through the whole story Matt was always being lied to (sometimes for his own good but they were still lies), and treated rudely by Shelby's friends, yet Matt was the sweetest guy and would always take their outbursts and blamed himself when really it was all Shelby's fault, whether it was because she left him or because she lied, she made those decisions and when it came back to bite her it always came back to poor Shelby, and that made my blood boil!

Overall, this book was a sweet, suspenseful story about facing your past, and getting a second chance with the love of your life.

I didn't much care for this one.I kind of felt like the meeting between the two main characters after 10 years of being apart was uneventful. Everything was forgiven, and outside of a crazy opponent of Matt's and a sister the book was a bit lacking in excitement.

The story of Matt and Shelby is the story of soulmates who separate to meet again later. And I said soulmates bc from the first moment in which their paths cross again, the 2 do not hesitate to throw themselves into each other’s arms. Chronologically, the events of this book occur just before the start of the Gloves Off series, although here are a few characters from the series: the wins of terror, Mason( former UFC champion and now a cop) and Kyle Andrews when he was still a bastard and a cheat. And of course the great protagonist of the series, Gabriella, Matt’s sister.
Shelby leaves Matt when they were both 18 ( they have been together 5 years and Matt is thinking to propose to her)for him to pursue his dream, since she is afraid that if he stays will gave up his dream to stay with her.
10 years later he is a UFC champion and she is a renowned reporter in a well-known sports magazine. Her boss orders her an article about Matt, and from the moment they see each other, all the feelings of the past come back and they immediately resume their relationship. But Kyle, who is used to playing dirty, will not hesitate to get into the middle of their relationship to make Matt lose his focus before the big fight.
Shelby´s jealousy and insecurities bc of Matt´s past womanizer, as well as her great secret, are some of the weapons that Kyle uses in the hope of destroying them.

For ten years she had been a memory that plagued my mind, except now she wasn’t just a memory. She was the girl I grew up with … and the first, and last girl I had ever been in love with. From the look of raw emotion on her face I knew right then that she wasn’t planning on coming back inside. Do I let her go again when I know she’s not coming back? The answer was simple … no. All I had to do was run out that door and make her talk to me. Which is exactly what I’m going to do.

“Yes,” I answered him, nodding my head quickly. “You have come a long way and I couldn’t be more proud of you. I never once thought you weren’t good enough. You were always good enough for me.”“All I wanted was to hate you, but now that you’re right here in front of me I just hate myself because I still can’t. No matter how hard I tried, I could never get you out of my mind.” He turned his body toward me and I did the same to him, my stomach fluttering. I wanted him to touch me and I counted down the seconds as he brought his hands up slowly to each side of my face. The instant he touched me, my skin tingled and I sighed in longing, rubbing my cheeks against the feel of his hands. “Matt,” I whispered breathlessly, “I’ve missed you so much.” “Then tell me the truth, Shelby,” he breathed, his voice a low growl. “Did you really stop loving me?”“The answer to your question is no,” I claimed breathlessly before steeling myself. “I never stopped loving you, Matt.”“I just don’t understand. I feel like I’m missing something here. You don’t leave the people you love, Shelby. That’s not how it works. You, of all people, knew the hell I went through after my father left.” I nodded and bit my lip hard, trying desperately to keep it together. “I know, and if there was a way to make it up to you or turn back time I would. It’s the only regret I’ve lived with for the past ten years.”

“She’s my friend and I care about her. The night she overheard you fucking those girls after the fight almost broke her. I don’t want to see her get hurt like that again. Being the friend that I am, I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt. Shelby obviously still cares about you, but it wasn’t you who was there for her when—”

“You will be mine tonight, angel. Your body, your lips … all mine.” “For how long?” I whispered back, shivering from his touch. “One night? Two?” I had to know what he wanted. He nipped my earlobe with his teeth and a deep rumble sounded in his chest. “I want you always, but I’ll settle for as long as you want to give me. Whether that be one night, two, or fifty years. It’s all up to you.”

“I loved you when you had nothing, and I would still love you if had nothing. I bet the ladies loved coming here,” I mumbled, thinking Matt couldn’t hear me. I was appalled when his answer came right behind my ear, his hands skirting around my waist. “Actually, I never brought any women here. It wasn’t like that,” he breathed. “It looks like you’ll be another first for me.”

“Promise me you’re not going to leave me again,” he murmured against my lips. Kissing him gently, I knew within my heart that I would never leave him like I did last time. I wish I could say the same for him once he finds out what I did. Softly, I whispered my answer, “I promise, Matt. As long as you want me, I promise I’ll always be here.” Satisfied with my answer, he pulled out of me and settled behind me as I turned, draping his arm snugly across my stomach. Feeling safe and warm within his arms, I drifted off into the best sleep I’d had in ten years.

“You just gave that dickhead all the ammunition he needed to get to you. Now he knows for a fact that Shelby is your weakness. He’s going to use that bit of knowledge to mess with you.” Gritting my teeth, I ripped off my gloves and threw them in my bag. What the hell did I just do? “How can I do that when he’s messing with the only thing I care about?” he shouted. “He knows he can’t fight me fair, so he’s doing this to screw with my head.” “Then don’t let him,” I whispered softly.

“No, angel, I never touched them or kissed them the way I do with you. I actually feel your skin, the way it connects with mine when I glide my fingers over it.” His fingers tickled my skin as he trailed them down my cheeks to my neck, and back up. “It’s the most amazing feeling I’ve ever felt. It’s like your body responds to me and heightens every single touch. When I kiss your lips it’s the same thing.” He leaned down and brushed his lips across mine, nipping my bottom lip. That feeling he spoke of tingled all the way down my body, making me shiver. He was right; I had never felt that with anyone other than him. “What makes it even more different, angel, is that I love you. I always have.”

“You’re body belongs to me,” he murmured huskily, kissing his way down my neck. He pressed me against the truck with his body shielding me and wrapped one of my legs around his waist so he could push his hard cock against me. “When someone kisses you on those luscious lips of yours, it’ll always be me. When someone touches the tenderest parts of your body, it’ll always be me.”Gliding his hand down my body, he unbuttoned my jeans and slid his hand inside, pushing a finger into me. I gasped, holding onto his neck, and rocked my hips against him. “I want to be the only man to have the privilege of touching you like this, of making love to you. Because this right here,” he murmured, placing his other hand over my heart, “is where I want to be. It’s where I’ve always wanted to be … it’s where I belong.” A tear slid down my cheek and I held him tighter. “You’ve always been there, Matt,” I whispered. Always.

A lone tear fell down the side of his cheek and in that moment I knew he realized that all Kyle had said was true. He was broken and I watched him shatter into a million pieces in front of my eyes. What he didn’t know was that I had been broken since the first day I left him. I was so close to having the pieces put back together again, but now … It wasn’t ever going to happen. “Matt,” I murmured softly. “Please, say something. I need to know where we stand in all of this, and if you can find it within yourself to forgive me.” Pulling away from me, he held my face in his hands and kissed me softly on the lips, our tears mingling with each other. The kiss, however, wasn’t a kiss of reconciliation; it felt more like a good-bye. I kissed him the same way ten years ago, and his kiss felt exactly like that. “No,” I whispered, shaking my head and clutching onto his arms. “Please, don’t leave me, Matt. I can’t lose you. I’m so sorry for not telling you. We both know what space means, Matt,” I hollered after him. He kept walking, but I continued anyway, “I know I made a mistake, but you aren’t the only one who’s suffering. Please, don’t do this to me.” He faltered for only one second before disappearing inside of his garage. The rumbling of his motorcycle echoed into the air, and almost instantly he shot straight out, speeding his way down the driveway to the road, getting the distance he wanted. Falling to my knees, I buried my head in my hands and screamed.

I always look forward to a new book from L.P. Dover because her books are amazing, and this book was no exception! It was absolutely amazing! I was drawn right into it as soon as I started reading! It starts really quickly and it gives you vital information and then it takes until quite a good bit through the book until the full story about what you assume at the beginning starts to come out! I cried at this book twice because the plot was emotional, but so beautiful at the same time! And I'm talking I cried like a baby lol! The plot was so freaking amazing! There were also some twist and turns in the plot too, which I wasn't expecting! I do have to admit that my mouth did drop open at one twist lol! It was so unexpected! I just loved the plot! It had everything that I love in a book in it and I completely devoured it! The characters were equally as amazing as the plot! Shelby was the main female character and she was so cute! She was just so normal and fun! She had also been through a lot as well! My heart completely went out to her! She went through something that affected her so much and you could see how much it still affected her ten years later! She was so strong though and I admired that so much about her! But Shelby had come so far as well! She had a successful job and career and she had an amazing group of friends that supported her through everything! I loved that Shelby didn't take that for granted! Matt was the main male character and the love interest of Shelby! Matt was one of the hottest male characters I've ever read! I want a guy like Matt! Or maybe I just need Matt ;) I completely fell head over heels for Matt for how protective he was of Shelby and I could see that he would do anything for her! Shelby had kept something huge from Matt and when he finds out, he crumbles and my heart completely went out to him! I think any man would crumble if they got told what Matt did! Matt showed just how tough he was though and he came back stronger than ever, which I loved! I loved that this book was written from both Shelby and Matt's point of views! It was definitely essential for what happened in the plot and I loved getting to see their love for each other through both of their eyes! There were also quite a few secondary characters in this book and they added so much to the plot! Some more that others, but I'm excited to hear that some of the secondary characters from this book are being featured in their own series! I'm also so excited to read the next book in this series! I know that it's going to be about Cooper, who was a character in the third book in this series, and I can't wait to read his story! The cover for this book is stunning! There are just no words to describe it! It's just absolutely stunning! I also love how well it suits the other covers in this series and how much the models on the front look like Matt and Shelby! Big thank you to L.P. Dover for an ARC of Fighting for Love and also for quoting me in it too! Big thank you to Enticing Book Journey Promotions for having me on the Blog Tour!

I absolutely loved it. I bought the book because I loved mason and Claire's story and although I knew it would be about Matt and Shelby two different characters I didn't care. First off I love L.P. Dover's work. She is an amazing author who puts so much emotion I to her stories that you get consumed and hypnotized by it all. She writes books that you can't put down and if by some chance you do I promise you will be picking it up because it's constantly on your mind of what will happen next and then you need more and even when the story is over you still want more.

Matt is a MMA fighter ( hello hotness) but he wasn't always so lucky. He had a hard life growing up, he didn't have much and worked to help his mom and sister have the things they did have but he had the love of Shelby. The one he has loved all of his life but she breaks his heart and leaves him, he is devastated and he would of turned the world upside down for her so now he knows he will be someone she deserves but 10 years pass.

Shelby thought she was doing what was right for Matt but it devastated her, she has loved with the heart break and the secret for 10 years. Matt will always own her heart she will never love another like him and although he doesn't know she still keeps up with him but it isn't easy because her heart breaks even more.

But fate is fate and what can you do? It's fate that brings them back together. Things will not be easy and they will be tested time and time again but how can you lose your heart twice in a lifetime?

The story was filled for of emotions. You experience true love. It's more than sex and fighting. It's more than words and promises. It true , consuming love. Love worth fighting for even when you think there is no fight left, you find sometimes the right person is worth fighting your entire life for.

Awesome job to L.P. Dover!!!!!!!!!!

To say that Matt hasn't let go of the past well...that would be an understatement, "he scoffed incredulously, his posture stiff and tense. "Why? Because I'm not good enough? After all I've accomplished, you still think that of me? I don't know if you've noticed, but I've come a long way in the past ten years, Shelby." I mean leave it to Shelby to point out the obvious, "Matt, are you okay?" she asked. When she stood, her gaze lingered down to my waist. Immediately, her eyes went wide and she bit her lip. "I see." The boy obviously still carries a flame toward her, and doesn't have a problem making it known, "my grip tightened and she moaned when I pushed my rock hard co** against her a**. "Like that," I growled low in her ear." I mean not only does he show her that he carries a flame for her but he knows how to voice it as well, "dammit, this feels so good I don't want to stop. I'm going to come so effing hard in you, angel." he growled." I mean the man is just an animal at times, and I don't mean just in the bedroom get the boy riled and you get the beast, "no," Matt growled low. "She stays." Finally, he turned around and glared at Garrett and Carted, especially Garrett since he still had my arm in his grasp. "Get you hand off her and leave. I want you both out." I really do love this damn series, the men are always animals (in the bedroom and out) and it makes seeing them possessive so much more fun!

This is my first book I've read in this series and I loved it. The author mentioned they didn't have to be read in order and can be read as standalones so I picked this book up on release day and I'm now loving this author. This book was so sweet, suspenseful, and a great story about forgiveness and learning to move past old mistakes. Matt and Shelby were the perfect couple one they got back together. Matt and Shelby have a lot of bad history from when they were teenagers. Shelby left him because she felt it was right though it was a tough decision for her and when they meet up again ten years later, it is full blown tension, confusion, lust, and sexual energy. They hit some bumps in the road and people trying to tear them apart but if it's meant to be then they will always find their way back to each other, right?

I love L.P. Dover's books. This is the 3rd book in the Second Chances Series that I have read & I love them all! This was such a beautiful story. Matt, MMA Heavyweight champion, and Shelby, writer for a popular sports magazine, have known each other since they were 12 years old. They were high school sweethearts. But something happens, and Shelby breaks up with Matt and leaves him. Ten years pass and they both never stopped loving each other. They come together again and I just love how it happens! Now that they are back in each others lives, they don't plan on ever separating again. But there is a big secret hanging over them and I knew that once it came out, everything would come crashing down. And boy did it. This is a very emotional story, but also a very happy story too. I loved every page of it! And the epilogue was just so magical & beautiful.

First read for me by this author. Thought I would give it a go as it was cheap but I didn't enjoy it.
Shelby and Matt were together from age 12 - 17 when Shelby made a decision thinking she was doing the best for Matt. I did not understand her decision at all and it just seemed ridiculous that a couple supposedly in love and together that long would not discuss something like that together.
It's obvious from the prologue what happens to the 'problem' Shelby had. Ten years later they are reunited. I found myself skipping parts of this book. It didn't hold my interest mainly because I just couldn't get over Shelby's decision 10 years ago.
An OK read but hasn't made me want to read more from this author or more from this series.

I want to start off by saying L.P has done it again!!!! I always look forward to getting my hands on one of her books, because her story telling always draws me in. Fighting for Love was a very emotional read for me. I cried continuously throughout this story. Some were sad tears and others were happy tears. This is one of those stories that drew me in, because it felt so real to me. I felt as if I was right there with the characters, and I love when stories pull me in like that. The romance in this story was well written. I loved seeing how Matt and Shelby grew throughout the story. They became whole again and I enjoyed seeing and feeling that. I also loved how L.P alternated POVs for this book. It was nice getting in Matt's and Shelby's head to really connect with them both.

Matt and Shelby believed that they were meant to be no matter what. After making a heartbreaking decision, things end between them. Why? Ten years later Matt and Shelby meet again. She ends up having to write an article on a MMA fighter and it happens to be Matt. These two finally get a second chance to be together, but will Matt's and Shelby's past and secrets tear them apart?

I love Matt!!!! We got to see this bad boy go soft. Of course, when it came to protecting Shelby and fighting in the ring, we got the bad boy back. Some of the stuff Matt learns and goes through tore me to pieces. It was so heartbreaking that I wanted to reach out and hug him. Shelby was a character anyone could relate to. The guilt she carried with her was almost tangible. I could feel the pain and love she carried with her. Love for her soul mate, pain from her loss.

There were a lot of secondary characters that I loved, but I have to say Carson was my favorite. The relationship between him and Shelby was so sweet. They adored each other and would do anything for each other. He is a friend I would love to have.

I was very excited to see characters from the previous books. Mason made an appearance along with Tyler and his father. Mason has to be one of my favorite characters so it was nice to see what became of him and Claire. Oh how I can't wait for Matt and Mason to get in the ring together. That is one fight I want to see again. Tyler was still his flirtatious self. I am hoping he gets a story of his own. What can I say about Kyle? He is even more ruthless and cunning in this story. He will do whatever it takes to be top dog. Can't stand him. He got what was coming to him.

Fighting for Love had so many twists and turns that left me completely stunned. I seriously didn't see what happened coming. Well I should say a couple plot twists that I didn't see coming. There were many WOW moments. Fighting for Love is one of those stories that I just can't shake. Days later, it is still with me. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment of this series. Can't wait to get inside Cooper's head!!! Great job L.P!!!! This is another book that I will definitely reread.

I Received An ARC Of This Book In Exchange For My Honest Review!!!

Oh my god this book is franfreakentastic!!! The characters were awesome and so well written that they came alive on the pages as you were reading along. Not to mention it felt like coming home for me since we met some of the characters previously in Meant For Me. I loved meeting the new characters but was so very happy to see some of the old characters return. I'm loving the whole MMA fighting thing that L.P. has going on in her books right now.

With Matt and Shelby we are once again returning to the world of MMA fighting and things haven't changed. Do you remember Kyle from Meant For Me? Well he's back and he hasn't changed. This time he has his sets on causing problems for Matt. Matt and Shelby's story is one of secrets, suspense, betrayal, romance, and tears. From the moment I started this book I was captivated by it and couldn't put it down.

It's been 10 years since Shelby left Matt and he's never got over it. Now she's back in his life to do an article on him and he doesn't plan on letting her get away again because the one thing he does know is that he never stopped loving her. Matt is pure sexy alpha male. He's the type of man who has a hard time not doing something when the ones he loves are being threatened. I will admit that I do love Matt "The Destroyer" Reynolds! He can be aggressive and rough at times but there are other times when he's sensitive, tender, and romantic. Not to mention that man has a way with words that makes me melt.

Shelby has never stopped loving Matt and when she left him 10 years ago she was doing it for the right reasons in her mind. Now that he's back in her life she realizes that he's who she wants to be with and always has. She doesn't plan on letting him go now that she has him back. The only problem is her secret. She knows that she has to tell him but she's scared and I completely see why. Not to mention they have to deal with Kyle interfering in their relationship.

This is their second chance to get things right and probably their last. Follow Matt and Shelby on their journey and see if love is enough to get you through anything. This book will keep you on your toes and have you guessing and wondering who is it? I do recommend having tissues ready because there's a part that I balled my eyes out over. You will know it when you get to it. Sorry I don't want to give away any spoilers. An absolutely wonderful book that I would recommend to all book lovers. L.P. Dover you continue to amaze me with every new book you release. I have been a fan of yours since I read the Fae Series and will be a fan for life.

Review: This book is the fourth in a series, but it can be read as a stand alone. I had not read the previous three books. I really enjoyed this story because, as frustrating as it was to read, it really seems to be a representation of the decisions that we can make at a young age, or during an emotional time. We meet Shelby in the past at the beginning of the book, and I was pretty sure I knew what she was going through, although the book did not come out and clearly state it at that point. We just find out that she is experiencing a major loss, and she has also recently left Matt, because she felt that it would be better for him.

Fast forward to the present and Shelby is a successful writer for a sports magazine, although she writes under a pen name. Matt has become a successful MMA fighter, and he has been chosen for the next big spread that Shelby's magazine is doing. They have the surprising run-in and when Shelby tries to run, again, Matt finally chases after her. I say "finally" because this is the type of story that you really feel the angst for both of them and wish that they had just made different decisions when they were younger - but then we wouldn't have the story.

Matt and Shelby definitely have a lot of chemistry, and it is one of those relationships where they really pick up as though they have been dating this whole time. They both seem to realize that the feelings are still there and just as strong as they ever were. They have to fight through the past decisions they made, however - Shelby's leaving Matt and Matt turning to lots of other women to try to move on. Not everyone wants these two to be happy, however. Matt has a pretty big enemy, who also happens to be a little psychotic, by the way, and he is out for Matt's blood. Someone in Shelby's life also plays a part in the plot against Matt, however, and I will say that that was a little surprising.

There are a few other hurdles that these two will have to overcome before they can really figure out if they can be together. I love a good second chance story, and this one is definitely up there. I will have to say that I think that everyone was a little too forgiving of a certain female in the book, which seems unrealistic. I also felt like Jace, one of Shelby's best friends, made a huge decision in the book that came out of nowhere. So, that seemed a little abrupt. I don't want to say a lot about these last two things because they would be spoilers, but this is definitely a hot MMA book, and a great second chance love story!

4 Reunited And it Feels Sooooo Good Stars
We first meet Matt Reynolds in Meant for Me. During this time Matt is a cocky, man-whore fighter with a grudge. After a talk with a fellow fighter Matt is ready to change his life. In doing so Matt never thought he’d be reunited with his long lost love. Shelby is the only girl to ever mean anything to him. She is the one girl who owned his heart and ripped it to shreds when she sent him away. So for the past ten years, Matt’s done everything he can to move on and make a name for himself even if his heart has always been with her.

When the prestigious Physique magazine wants to do a large spread on Matt, he couldn’t be happier. What a great way to advertise himself and gain more of a following. When he finds out Shelby is writing the article, he barely has time to be shocked since she runs away.

Matt and Shelby have a lot to discuss. Not only was their relationship and friendship broken, Shelby has hidden something from Matt that torments her daily. When Matt lets her know she’s his, always has been and always will be, Shelby couldn’t be happier. These old lovers have a lot of time to make up for and no one is more ashamed of their mistakes than Matt. His reputation of bedding and leaving girls is part of what he’s known for only now he has his ‘one’ back and he’ll anything to keep her.

Where Meant for Me had moments of suspense, Fighting for Love was much more focused on the re-connection of Matt and Shelby. Throw in an angry and jealous fighter who wants to hurt Matt and you have a drama-ridden book that will keep you engrossed and entertained.

Overall as my second book in the series I was very pleased. The writing was consistent and the pacing was smooth and fast. Throw in interesting characters with a long lost love and I was a goner. Fans of this series will love Matt and Shelby. Can’t wait to see who and if there is another story.

I never imagined when I started reading Fighting for Love that it would pull me in emotionally as tight as it did. It is a very powerful and moving story not just about romance and sex but a real down to your very soul kind of love one you don't soon forget. I fell head over heels for the characters in this book especially the the two main Shelby and Matt. It was hard not to. They were just meant for each other and it was as plain as the noses on their faces. I was so taken in by their story, I know you are thinking isn't that what the author wants you to do and yes, that is true but this book seemed so much more than just an author writing a story. It was so much bigger than that it was like taking real life and putting it on a page of paper. I felt their pain and love I felt every emotion right along with them! I felt like a part of me had died. Fighting for Love is not your everyday grocery store romance book. This story has a very real heart and soul that it bares from the very beginning. It will leave you reeling with emotion that will leave you mad and loving it at the same time. The amount of depth that is in this story was almost insane.I wanted to argue with what I had read, and kick, scream and hit then turn around and kiss it all better. I knew this story was more than a nice light romance but I was blown away by what I got instead. Fighting for Love will leave you fighting for more than love by the end of the story. You will be fighting for two lives that you didn't even know existed until you read the first page. L. P. Dover wrote the story of a life time a life time I won't soon forget about two people who can make you believe in a forever love all over again!

*I received and ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Just when I thought L.P. couldn't get any better, she does. We first meet Matt in her last book Meant For Me, and I was drawn to him back then. I was so excited to learn more about this hot-shot bad boy. I was not disappointed. Matt comes off as the playboy of the MMA. He has a different woman in his dressing room before AND after the fight. He's tough and closed off to anyone who doesn't know him. Those that do, know the truth.
Shelby is a successful writer for one of the most premier sports magazines. She loves her job, but is still struggling with the aftermath of a decision and a tragedy from 10 years ago. A decision that cost her the love of her life. Matt.
When Shelby is assigned to do a feature on Matt, she doesn't think she can face him, knowing she broke his heart and has a secret he will never forgive her for.
As the two of them begin to work together, they are determined to try to put their past behind them, and just move forward. But someone else wants to keep them apart.
This book is full of love. You know as soon as Matt and Shelby see each other for the first time again that feelings remain. The chemistry is still just as strong. While they work to move forward, together they vow not to let whatever, whoever is trying to come between them do that. There's suspense, a couple of "oh crap I didn't see that coming" moments, and of course a lot of steamy sex. Above all, Matt and Shelby prove that if you're willing to fight for what you want, you'll win.

Romantic Suspense lovers need to add this to your TBR. I'm anxious for her next book! I can't wait to see who we get to know next!

This is one book I could not put down; I read it straight through in one sitting. This is the 4th book in the Second Chances series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Each book in the series gets better, and this is now one of my favorite series.

To be honest, I love the concept of couples getting a second chance to get their love right. I’m drawn to these types of stories, so this series is perfect for me. Matt and Shelby were high school sweethearts, but Shelby broke Matt’s heart right before she was to leave for college. Of course she had her reasons. She felt that she was protecting him. He thought he just wasn’t good enough. Fast forward 10 years, they are both successful in what they do. Matt is an MMA fighter and Shelby is a sports journalist. Fate throws them in each other’s path again when she has to write a spread on Matt. Feelings and chemistry come rushing to the surface and the rest they say is history. BUT….there is someone plotting against them. Did they find each other again after so long only to lose each other again?

I loved everything about this book. I thought Matt and Shelby were awesome. Matt is such a great guy. He loves deeply and fiercely, and is so protective of Shelby and their relationship. He is determined that it will work this time. He has just the right amount of possessiveness, too. YUM! Shelby is a feisty thing. She is perfect for Matt. She loves him deeply, too, and is strong enough to stand by him. Not only were Matt and Shelby great, but all of the characters were. This is just a really well developed story that shouldn’t be missed. Really, the whole series shouldn’t be missed.

Another hot, sexxy, story from LP!

Matt and Shelby were completely in love. Matt thought they had it all, he was going to make Shelby his wife but the day before he was going to ask her she dropped him. Told him he wasn't good enough and she got out of the car. He lost her, the only women he would ever love and she was gone.

Shelby has always regretted leaving Matt. He was her only true love, but she had to, she wanted him to have the life he wanted and she couldn't, wouldn't be the reason he was held back.

10 years later, Shelby is in her dream job, she is a journalist for Physique Sports and Fitness Magazine. She lives for her job. Her new interview is the last person she ever expected to see again. The only man she has ever loved, the one that she has never stopped loving.

Matt is at the top of his game. He is one of the best MMA fighters around. The up and coming spread for Physique Sports and Fitness Magazine is just the thing he needs to keep him on the top. Walking in to the restaurant for his first meeting with the journalist and his manager he never expected to crash into his past, but now that he had crashed into Shelby Dawson he is not going to let go again. She was and is the only women he will ever love.

Can Matt and Shelby find their way back, can they pick up the pieces of their love and move forward together or will the secrets of their past ruin their future?

This was the second book that I read from L.P. Dover and like Meant For Me I loved this book too! This book can be read as a standalone even though it is part of the Second Chance series.

Fighting for love is about having a love, losing a love and getting the love back. The story centers around our hero Matt "the Destroyer" Reynolds as you guess is a MMA Heavyweight Champ and Shelby Dawson our heroine. Matt came from helping support his family to making a name for himself and having money, fame and women, women and more women but what was missing for Matt was Shelby.

Years prior Shelby and Matt had a relationship which though making a sacrifice thinking that it was the right thing to do Shelby ending the relationship leaving Matt. Current time now Shelby returns back in Matt's life and the question is can Matt handle seeing Shelby after all these years.

Shelby is sweet and caring and in thinking that she was doing the right thing by leaving Matt all those years ago was a reason behind it. As Matt and Shelby start to work together the feelings that they had for each other come back, but is there something or someone that is standing in the way of Matt and Shelby's reunion and happiness.

I loved the storyline and most importantly I loved Matt and Shelby. I am looking forward to reading more from the series.

I was given an ARC from the author for an honest review.

Fighting For Love is book 4 in the series, however is a stand alone. I have not read the other books ,yet had no trouble following the story. It is the story of Shelby and Matt. Shelby left Matt 10 years ago, yet neither were able to get over the other. They never stopped loving each other.

Shelby is a writer for a magazine doing an article on Matt. Matt is pure alpha male. A MMA fighter. He is aggressive and rough yet soft and gentle. I really enjoyed his character. He never got over Shelby. My heart broke for him. He was from the wrong side of the tracks, and Shelby from a wealthy family. He made a name for himself. Became the MMA champion.

Shelby also never stopped loving Matt. When she left him 10 years ago she believed she was doing what was best for his future. Now that he's back in her life she begins to realize that he is who she wants. Who she has always wanted. The only thing that could tear them apart is her secret.

I must say I LOVE second chance stories. Fighting For Love gives you just that a second chance at love. But is it enough to overcome the obstacles these two face? Their is some mystery in here also leaving you wondering WTH.

It is also very emotional. I recommend having Kleenex nearby there are some heartbreaking scenes. I give Fighting For Love 4 stars. I look forward to reading the other books in the series also.

Shelby and Matt started dating in junior high and made big plans for their future after high school graduation. Instead, Shelby decides to dump Matt right before she goes to college thinking she's giving him a better shot at his dreams without worrying about her and their unexpected surprise. Fast forward ten years later, Shelby is a successful journalist for a sports magazine-under a pseudonym-and Matt has made a name for himself as an MMA fighter. Shelby is picked to do an article about Matt, she just doesn't realize it's him until he's walking into the restaurant.

Although it's been 10 years, Shelby and Matt pick up as if the missing years never happened. They have some emotional ups and downs while readjusting to each other's life's, but nothing overly dramatic. They also get to deal with Kyle, the crazy MMA fighter who wants to mess with Matt enough to lose focus on an upcoming match and get his title back. Kyle's part provided a weird suspense line that only seemed to crop up whenever things appear to be settled between Matt and Shelby.

I had a few hiccups with how quickly Matt and Shelby got back together and the implied maturity level was off base (some scenes made me think of junior high drama instead of late 20 year olds). The romance didn't feel steamy, instead it felt like wearing a comfortable blanket at the end of a rough day. Overall, the story started out great, fizzled in the middle, yet managed to end on a good note.

Once again L.P. does not disappoint. When I finished Meant for Me I hoped and prayed that Matt would get his own book, and YAY! He did!!

Once I started Fighting for Love I could not turn it down, I had to know what was going to happen next. Once high school sweethearts Matt and Shelby came to a sudden end when Shelby broke up with Matt. Fast forward to ten years later and Shelby enters Matt's life again, and he is determined to get her back. He has never stopped loving her. Shelby never stopped loving Matt either. Yes, she was the one who broke up with him, but she felt she was doing it because it was what was best for him. Now that he is back in her life she wants him back, but she is afraid that the secret she has will ruin everything. Things however will not be easy they have to deal with Kyle interfering with their relationship. That is all the details you are going to get.

Fighting for Love will keep you on the edge of the seat and have you guessing who is it? You will understand when you read it. This book is an absolute must read, as all of L.P.'s books are. Fighting for Love is in a series but you do not need to read the other to keep up. Have your tissues ready, I was bawling my eyes out at a certain point while reading. I absolutely loved this book and recommend it to anyone who believes love deserves a second chance.

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, betrayal, pain, second chances, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Love's Second Chance (Second Chances #1)
Trusting You (Second Chances #2)
Meant for Me (Second Chances #3)

This is Shelby and Matt’s story. Years ago Matt and Shelby were together but she broken his heart. Now years later she is back and has kept an eye on his through the years. She is about to do a interview and spend a bunch of time with Matt. Will she be able to handle the time spent together when she knows she never stopped loving him? Matt never knew the reason that they broke up. Why did she leave him? When past hurt surface and they overcome the issues? Will they be able to overcome the obstacles that fate throws at them? What happens when someone does not want them together? Will they be able to stay together when that someone will do anything to keep them apart? Will they be able to come together and present a united front or is this the beginning of the end?

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book.

Fighting for love and Trusting you have to be my two favorite books in this series. I have to admit I did not think I was going to love this book as much as I did but Matt Reynolds character just floored me. Matt to me was more like a person in real life then a character in a book, he was flawed, he had a temper that got out of control, and made bad decisions when he was hurt. That made me fall in love with him even more than most of the romance story men. But let's not forget our leading lady Shelby, she has been in love with Matt her whole life despite everything. She gave him what she though was his best chance at a future no matter what the cost was to her, my heart broke for her as her story unfolded and the understanding of why she did what she did. Throughout the whole story I was cheering them on hoping they could get past everything and had my heart break a bit for every step back they took. But the one thing that never failed was that I never questioned their love for each other.

If you are not used to my reviews, well then I don't give spoilers so if you want to know more about what I am talking about..... Read the book! If you have not read it yet you are missing out, so what are you waiting for... Go read!

Fighting for Love is one of those books that leaves an impression on you. It grabs at your heartstrings and plays to your soul like none other can do. Matt and Shelby, high school sweethearts, that loved each other with a passion that most could only dream about having, but something went wrong, and their love broke apart. Fast forward to present day and a chance encounter at meeting each other again. Things are different, they are different, but their love, it never disappeared. Deep down in the bottom of their hearts, there is still a spark, a spark that can ignite a fire. However, secrets stand in their way, how do you be honest with someone when you know you will break them all over again? People are trying to ruin what Matt and Shelby are trying to recreate and will not stop until they succeed, especially if they might know some of the secrets.
L.P. Dover has definitely proved herself as an author in the writing world. Her books are simply amazing and her characters are well thought out and written. I look forward to reading what she publishes with every book she releases. This is a must read!

Matt and Shelby were high school sweethearts until an unexpected breakup sends them apart. Matt was introduced in book 3 Meant for Me as a "bad boy" of MMA. He was a playboy, but was still healing a wounded heart from 10 years prior thanks to the unexpected split from Shelby.
Shelby kept a secret from Matt and left him without an explanation 10 years ago. There worlds have collided thanks to Shelby being assigned to write a feature for the magazine she is employed at. How does one move forward when the past is always in your face? Shelby has to deal with Matt's playboy past.
This is the 4th book in the Second Chances series and I believe the best one yet. This book can be read as a stand alone, but reading the series especially the book Meant for Me is a must!
I feel the saying, "if you love something set it free, if it comes back it was meant to be," applies to this book.
