TLDR: so much is fascinating about this series, but it fails in ways that ultimately damaged my enjoyment and destroyed my trust in the author. You don’t get to write a complex 6-book mindfuck of a series then mock your frustrated readers at the end.

How did it damage my enjoyment? I read Why Choose primarily because I love the teasing/pining/sexual tension of the courting period in romances, and Why Choose stories prolong that delicious part of the story and multiply it by 2, or 3, or 4. Or more. And I love poly love stories secondarily for the intense spicy parts.

This series is Why Choose but with none of the yumminess. Several of the men are unlikable or never gel as characters, and Bea, our “wifey” — with much anguish — holds onto the ideal of human monogamy for far too long (5 of the 6-book series) in the face of everything she sees and knows around her. It gets whiny and so, so tiresome. She derides the part of her soul that requires loving connections as her “inner ho.” Book after book.

It’s just not the unending whininess, the messed up relationships also mean that it takes entirely too long for the group to stop misunderstanding each other and come into the collective power they need to defeat both evil foes.

The secondary reason i adore Why Choose is the fantasy of being overwhelmed by the desire that multiple hot people have only for you. In this the story fails too. The sex is odd, not for its kinkiness, but because it’s ultimately cold and distant.

And yeah, the whole series is one mindfuck after another with no appreciable editing. I surrendered to the Alice in Wonderland-ness throughout all 6 books and found a meager reward at the end. Then found that there’s a second ending where Morris mocks the readers who skipped ahead to the ending. No. WTF. What is wrong with you.

I cannot recommend this series.

Original review of book 1 below.
I am stunned. Clearing my TBR to finish this series. Holy shit.

Oh Bea, you have my heart.

Advice? Just dive in. None of the summaries will make sense. I promise you it all comes together. You’ll feel like Alice in Wonderland at first because it won’t make sense at the beginning. It helped that I highlighted parts that seemed like clues.

I'm spoiling this book and book 6 on GR, so you can go over to book 6 if you want to know the complete end game. I am a firm believer that sometimes knowing the spoilers going in, makes the book more enjoyable. This is one of those series - as you can't fully appreciate the genius of this authors writing unless you get to the end of the book or hell even the end of the series.

I hope this helps!

How is this a first time author’s book??? It sucked me in. I will be back for a longer review after I finish the entire series bc no one wants to get sucked into a series and have it suck less than me.

Book 2 The plot sort of sat on hold. But we get some new details. It was still engaging and funny. But not much spice. At all. I think a kiss? Maybe??

Book 3 we got some movement again. Again. Not much spice. Maybe one scene?? I feel like there is not enough love time bt these characters. None of the relationships beyond the first mate feel genuine.

Book 4 I was feeling like this all needs to be wrapped up. Again-tiny bit of spice. Not sure why she has these warnings to her mom about the spice in book 2 or 3. My nana could read these books and tell me they need more spice.

Book 5 I skimmed bc I was so tired of this plot, energy and story-that’s a me problem. I wanted answers last book. Five books was too much.

While I do believe this writer has tons of potential, plenty of talent and a great sense of humor, by book 5 I was exhausted. I am just not a five book series reader. I know this. I try again and again to make it thru. This series almost had me tho!! I made it all the way til book 5 before I got tired of everyone.

I’m not a fan of larger harems so I don’t put that on the author. She did a good job of making sure everyone was their own person. But my issue w larger harems is that several characters always seem on the outskirts. She never sold me on King/FMC/and the dragon dude. It was boring.

There were twists and turns thru the series but frankly maybe it was my bad skimming but by the end I have no idea how it all rolled out. Was that weird god the scary dog guy’s adopted mom followed, ever revived? Was the harem finally united and everyone mated? Was that weird MMC Kimi ever a full mate again? I know he is a big part of the ending-and the entire story sort of wraps around him and the fmc.

These were really low spice and not really anything that made me sweat. Just passable meh spice.

There were things at the end and start of the book that made zero sense to me. Game over? Ig I missed something there but sometimes I felt like I was reading the author’s inside jokes about shit. And one thing I dislike is an author not letting their readers in on the joke😂

Ig I could have been more patient. Maybe taken a break and tried to read book five after a break. But I wanted to see how it all ended. I can’t tell you that bc the story is so fucking confusing I have no idea wtf happened. Author even has a page at the end where she assumes you skipped to read the end but the ramble just makes no sense. The last book was weird.

Maybe her writing isn’t for me? I think some of you will love this series. It just went on too long for me and then dived off the rails. Oh well.

4.25 ⭐️/1 🌶️—This was amazing. Excellent world building, complex characterization, and a compelling storyline. It’s a slow burn romance, which doesn’t always work, but here it did. The FMC was funny and likable. She is also older (like 28?), which was great to see.

The whole thing was pretty confusing but maybe that’s how it’s supposed to be written? Wasn’t great world building, but I’m intrigued enough to read the second book.

Unusual

I found this series recommended on a reverse harem group. It's definitely not your usual rh novel. There is no romance in book one. I came very close to dnf in the first five chapters. A few questions are partially answered as the book goes on, but mostly the plot is a mangled mess. We meet our heroine just after her adopted father figure has passed away. A very strange man comes to the house and in a rambling and psycho fashion ebbs out that she has been appointed as the human representative for a paranormal enforcement group. She knows she isn't really human, but has been taught to hide her powers and doesn't want to tell the agent she isn't human. The male is totally bizarre and insists she is his wife and other untrue things, but she goes along with him anyway. His team is made up of various paranormal characters who are all extremely hostile to her. The story builds from there, if you can make heads or tails of it. It's very much a bizarre presentation, and honestly a strain to follow. But it is interesting.

Review for all the serie :

So, this was really good.
That’s why I spent most of my vacation reading it. But to be honest, I felt like the ending was a bit butchered, and the last book... was the one I liked the least.
Let’s start with what I loved about the series:
• The writing : Absolutely insane. I adored it. The style was so unique, fast-paced, emotional, and addictive. It really pulled me in.
• Beatrice : She is hilarious. Truly a dream MC for me, because she’s different, but she doesn’t flaunt it or try to stand out. She just lives her life the best she can, powering through situation after situation, barely getting a break. I loved that about her.
• The plot : We don’t always follow it closely (sometimes it feels a bit loose), but it’s still engaging. There’s never a lack of action and the story definitely revolves around the romance more than anything.
• The romance : And that’s tricky to even define because we have five main love interests in this series.

Each relationship is completely different, which is something I really appreciated. But at the same time... I didn’t love all of them 100%. Here’s how I felt about each:
-> Mitri : My favorite by far. Best chemistry, ridiculously charismatic, compelling backstory, psychotic in just the right way... Honestly, I could’ve read an entire series with just Beatrice and him (maybe with Ben in the background). They worked.

-> Ben : Second favorite. The only green flag in the whole lineup. He supports Beatrice through hell and never betrays or mistreats her, unlike all the others at some point.

-> Aodhan : The blandest of them all, in my opinion. We meet him later, and he’s just not very memorable. I liked him and I like berserkers, but honestly, he could’ve been removed and it wouldn’t have made much of a difference.

-> King : I hated him for about three books straight. Toward the end, I appreciated his relationship with Mal, but his bond with Beatrice felt rushed. She clearly doesn’t love him (or Mal) the way she loves Mitri or Ben, she even says so. Their development felt lacking, and I didn’t like some of their actions

-> Mal : He seemed like a sweetheart, and I felt heartbroken for him regarding his relationship with King. But again, his relationship with Beatrice felt rushed. It was slightly more developed than King’s, but still not on the same level as Mitri or Ben.

-> Kimi : Okay, I know a lot of readers won’t agree with me here, but... I didn’t really like him. Yes, he did the most for Beatrice, but also the worst:
he got her imprisoned for years and handed her over to her worst torturer, someone who gave her lifelong nightmares.
And honestly, I didn’t even understand what did he do for her. I saw him more as a fun, crazy, cute friend, but there wasn’t much romantic chemistry there for me.

Now for what I didn’t enjoy:
• Mike. I know it’s not a huge deal, but I really didn’t like this character. He appears mostly in the last two books, and it felt like he became a version 2.0 of the human Beatrice. All the wild stuff that used to happen to her suddenly happens to him, and it felt like the narrative shifted its focus onto him, when she is the main character. He often felt like an annoying third wheel, and I just couldn’t connect with him. Totally subjective, but he irritated me.
• I want a chess game with Mitri !! And more intimate scenes with the others, please. Don’t get me wrong, I loved that the romance took time to build. But still, only one or two scenes per love interest ? That felt like a missed opportunity.
• Bea’s “badass” personnality : We’re constantly told how dangerous and powerful she is, how she could kill anyone, how she might even be the worst of them all... and yet I feel like we missed one or two key scenes of her actually being badass, aside for the scene where she revived people, which we didn't even see. I get the reasons behind it (the goddess, etc.), but I still wish we had that payoff at the end, and we didn’t.

Sorry for the long review and the ranting! I was absolutely hooked by this series and devoured it, but I still came away with some frustrations. That said, I still 100% recommend it, especially if you love intense romance, “morally grey” characters (for the ref), and stories that aren’t afraid to go wild.

Okay so Bonding Psychos by Gina Morris really took me by surprise! I started it not expecting much—just something fun and chaotic to break up my usual reads—but ended up kinda obsessed?? I mean, it’s a wild mix of laughs, low-key murder vibes, and a trio of unhinged but weirdly loveable characters that made me cackle out loud. 😂 You know when you finish a book and you’re like, “That was a mess… but MY mess”? Yeah. That. Totally chaotic but in a ‘please let me hang out with these psychos’ kinda way. Also, somehow I saw a bit of myself in the chaos… maybe I need a little self-reflection time? 😂💅

What I Loved About This Book 💖

The Chaos, But Make It Endearing
I genuinely didn’t expect to like the psychos as much as I did? But the author did such a good job giving them depth while still keeping things bananas. The psycho golden retriever energy?? ICONIC. He’s all sunshine and murder and I couldn’t get enough 😂. And then the broody one—helloooo damaged bad boy alert. He’s giving all the moody tension and dark secrets that make your brain scream “girl, run” but your heart whisper “maybe he’s just misunderstood.”

Our Girl Boss FMC 👑
She’s like that friend who doesn’t realise how incredible she is until someone spells it out for her. Relatable?? Yes. Annoying sometimes?? Also yes 😂. But it made her feel real. She wasn’t trying to be badass, she just was—and that made me root for her all the more. She had sass, smarts, and a good dash of ‘I’m just surviving this madness best I can’ energy.

The Plot Twists + The Vibes
There’s mystery layered into the madness, and while I wouldn’t say I was clutching my pearls, I was invested. It kept me on my toes, and just when I thought I had something figured out—BAM, nope. Wrong again. Also: great banter, unexpected sweetness. No spice though definitely a slow burn coming!

Bonding Psychos is basically what happens when chaos meets charm. If you’re into books that don’t take themselves too seriously but still have heart (and murder), give it a go. I had a blast! Honestly, it felt like being part of a slightly deranged friend group where no one’s entirely okay but everyone’s ride or die. And somehow… that’s beautiful?? 💀❤️😂

I thought there would be at least a little romance here, but there wasn't ;) All the males we encountered in the story are assholes or psychotic or both in some cases. There were a lot of things happening, but nothing really happened if you understand what I mean.
Beatrice was a ~28 year old that was brought up by a man she called Old Man after she escaped a lab. She was tortured and experimented on in that lab, but there weren't any details in the book. The Old Man died and a weirdo came to the house she just emptied after the funeral, she was getting drunk and wallowing in her grief, so she was a bit discombobulated and passed out soon after the weirdo said that she was his wife. Then she woke up with him driving her truck and the story got even more fucked up.
Hey Man, or Kimi as Beatrice called him was a crazy immortal. His actions seemed to not make sense until he revealed at the end of the book that I don't mind crazy MMCs, some of them are adorable in their deranged-ness, but that was not it. He hinted many times that he wanted to fuck Bea, but it didn't stop him from being awful to her. Even the emotionless and cold Mitri was better than him. I feel that I'll be disappointed when she inevitably forgives him everything in the next books, but I'm curious if the guys ever get better.

This is taken directly from my notes at the end of book 1, Bonding Psychos: "I don't know WTF I just read, but it's like a dizzying carnival ride that I don't want to end."

Please note that the following review is for the SERIES, not each individual book.

First off, this series hit all of my happy buttons.
Plot? ✅️
Character driven? ✅️
Unpredictable? ✅️
Large harem? ✅️
Geeky? ✅️
Funny? ❌️ - this wasn't funny. It was freakin hysterical.
Hawt? ✅️ (but know going in, this is a glacial burn series. The smut takes a long time to arrive, but when it does? Im advising you now - batteries or cold showers.)

I saw the series recommended on Facebook, and the title of the first book (Bonding Psychos) alone piqued my interest. I didn't really know what I was getting myself into. And I wouldn't change a thing. However, I tend to fall into the morally gray camp, so even if I could succinctly summarize the plot (which I can't), I wouldn't.

The plot is … phenomenal doesn't even come close. I cannot even begin to write a synopsis. Trust me, bro. Read it. The world building is mind blowing, and I can't think of another romance series that has this depth of character development. In some regards, this is almost more urban fantasy than romance, but the relationship building that winds through the story is delicious. And Bea? A pure delight for such a chaotic good character. (For those who aren't in the know about character alignments, she is just on the “good” side of morally gray.)

All in all, chef's kiss. I'm off to see what other adventures Gina Morris has written!

This series sucked me in and left me with a huge book hangover.

So many twists and turns that you can’t possibly see coming until it smacks you in the face and leaves you gaping like a fish.

All of the characters have their own personalities; ranging from robotic stoicism to neurotic morally gray psychopath.

The imagery and world build are top tier and captivating. The trails leading up to plots are genius.

This is a slow build romance. The first spice scene doesn’t happen until like book four. I HATE slow build romance but this series is so good I just couldn’t put it down.

The spice is well done once it starts and definitely has good heat. I’m talking bondage, spirit fingers, ungodly large appendages, and more.

Insanely awesome side characters just bring this series to a new level as well.

My reason for knocking off a star is only because I feel there should have been more emphasis put into the relationships. Ben was the only one I felt a real connection with for our FML. Since the romance doesn’t really start until book four, the relationships feel entirely too rushed after that point. One guy, not naming names, she isn’t even fully intimate with in the series. They only do oral while she gets it on with the other guy. That was disappointing. If the relationships had more time to grow, they would have had plenty opportunity without taking away from the plot.

I definitely recommend everyone to give this series a shot. You’ll probably be a little confused during book one but once you dove into book two it all starts adding up and the end result is worth the beginning head scratches.

DNF @ 48%

Almost halfway through the book and I can't decide if there really isn't much going on or if I just can't tell what is happening. I know there were a lot of reviews saying it was confusing and the plotting was bad, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. Beatrice is cryptic, cautious, but at the same time not. The psycho got old fast when their interactions are so stilted in almost a sterile environment where he ghosts her if she displeases him. Mitri was okay, more interesting than Kimi, the psycho, and the others were a wash. There is barely anything going on. She's not having a ton of relationship building interactions. This is a different level of slow burn. There are barely embers beyond her repeating she's not married to Kimi and reminding herself not to find them attractive. On top of that, she's organizing papers and questioning the quality of their work. At 48% that is all that is happening. That's it.

What happened to her not being normal? What happened to all of her concerns about being found out? Hell, at this point, I would take any other conflict than her indignation about things she is taking personally that frankly go against everything she is set up to be as a person. For someone that was taught to take care of herself first, she is throwing caution to the wind a lot for people and situations she has no information about.

This was.. a lot? I’m on the fence as I both loved it, but also became a bit frustrated.

I adore Bea, except for the part where she willingly follows a Psycho to a house and takes everything he says as the gospel. We have a lot of inner monologue where she “doesn’t trust” Kimi or anyone in the house, except.. she did. For the entire book.

And I understand that was part of the twist — and it was a fantastic, albeit infuriating twist — but it went against her entire character. It made me feel like her entire persona was just *that* a persona. She doesn’t kill. But apparently was trained by an Old Man? She doesn’t trust. But stays in a manor with five Others despite hiding she’s an Other and trusting everything the Psycho says from day one.

The world building was interesting, and the characters — for the most part — were distinguishable from each other. And yet we have the weird game layout at the end. Why? Video games were never mentioned so what’s the point? It was jarring and through me out of the seriousness of the story.

I will be reading book two, pending the rest of the series.

I won’t read book 2. Super slow burn, which I like, but I wasn’t invested in the characters, I didn’t feel any chemistry between the MCs, and the plot dragged. I’m not really sure what direction the plot is trying to go?

I also wasn’t sure why the FMC lets this random dude take her to his home and announce she’d be working and living there.

I guess she was lost and floundering so she’d accept anyone telling her what to do? But that doesn’t make for the most engaging MC of all they do is react to what’s happening to her.

Her only main action was to clean the office by making stacks of random papers for days. Also, after a missing person report was magically shoved in her face about ten times, and her thinking a lot about how she wanted to find the girl, she did begin a half ass investigation by once visiting a school and talking to two people. That’s all she did the entire story.

Perhaps the FMC will grow through the series but I’m not going to read on to follow her journey.

The MMCs in this were AMAZING but the FMC got old, fast. She started out as kind of funny and baffled but took a turn to more stereotypical (snarky, weirdly aggressive, doesn't say or think a single thing that doesn't sound like it was cut from the Gilmore Girls). I think it bothered me more because it was such a promising start here for a unique, interesting FMC. With how well all the make characters are written, I was excited to see a realistic response to trauma Instead we got version 1 billion of "feisty and weirdly reactive".

This becomes more of a bummer when the other female characters are immediately bitchy, condescending, want the men for themselves and could never be as cool as the FMC (because the FMCs not like other girls!). The FMC even snarkily notes that one of the women she has bruises on her knees (so clearly a sluuuut).

I just want to find a book where the FMC isn't a Buffy knock-off

Whew! Thats one heck of a ride!! And it’s not even close to being over!! Squeal!! I downloaded Bonding Psychos yesterday and was meh about starting it, but Ms Morris did not disappoint!! There’s so much intrigue and so many twists to the storyline, but what kept me going is the HILARITY of the characters! I must have peed myself at least 5011 times reading both books. I am confused that “your service” is used in place of thank y or, but the world is so unique the characters so complex. And their insanity unmatched in any thing I have read thus far! These people could literally be my village!! I’m off to book 3, oh, no spicy yet but honestly it doesn’t need it! Yes I believe the characters are clinically insane. Honestly I really cannot describe the book, there’s so many moving parts and character building. Just read the book, all of em! You thank Gina later! Happy Reading Friends!

I read the book. I even reread some of the chapters and I still have no clue what the heck is going on. What’s the point? Where is this going? Why is it taking so damn long to get there? Listen, I’m all for world building. I actually really enjoy it but this book was so slow and stilted because of it.

You know what else I love? Psycho MMCs! However, Kimi (Hey) whatever you want to call him was annoying and way too over the top. I got the vibe that the author tried so hard to make him funny and unhinged that it came out overdone.

Slow burn is fine as long as there is something that makes me want to keep reading. This book doesn’t have that. And although I never base my reading off of others opinions, the reviews confirm that this series moves at the same pace as Kimi and Bea’s marriage… “glacial”. That’s too slow for me, so I will not be continuing.

This was a bit of a weird one. I went in expecting the usual RH formula and it was very different.

The prologue was engaging and set the scene straight away. However, the following 90% of the book never mentioned anything in the prologue or related to it in any way which I found confusing.

The twist at the end was worth it though and made everything come together.

The story is original and keeps you guessing as you read it. Who are these “others”? What is this group she is forced to live with? Why did the old man force her to train? Why is she so weird? When does the romance happen?

confused and loving it

This totally surprised me. A few readers in my fb groups had recommended this, it took me a little while to get into it but it was so worth it. Beatrice is a strong but damaged fmc, with lots of past trauma. Kimi is batsh*t crazy and I’m already in love with Mitri. The whole story just gets weirder, plus mysterious, with missing people and a story/history that comes out of nowhere and smacks you around the face, leaving you dazed and confused. I think I’m in love!

Oooof. I feel like not a lot happened in this book at all.

I’m all for out-of-the-box MMCs and crazypants guys, but KiMi miiiiight just be a little too extra even for me.

I’m willing to give this series a little more time because the premise is interesting and it’s gotten some attention in some of the reader groups I’m in, but hopefully it picks up the pace or at least some kind of romance or spice in the next book. This feels glacial. Just awareness that they’re hot and that’s it.

I have a new favorite author on my list!

Wow! The charter dialogue and development is amazing, just for starters. I am going to bing this series over my break, hangover be damned. It is a bit of a mind fuck, but nothing to extreme yet- hopefully? I like not knowing how the whole harem will turn out in the first book and when the charters make u hate and love them and then also want to knock sense into them, you know, all the feels. keep up the great work, Gina!

Dear writers, what is the point of being secretive about world-building and not explaining things in the first chapter? If I don't get hooked, I don't continue.

I barely got through it because after nothing being clarified even in the slightest, I went to read reviews of this book and almost every negative one was mentioning a specific style of writing: messy and erratic. Based on that and the first chapter experience, I decided I did not want to continue with the book.

loving the start of this series

I couldn’t put this book down. Made me laugh a ton and cry a bit too. The characters are all unique and interesting and I love the mmcs so far, even if they’re emotionally stunted. I’m excited to read more and figure out what’s going on and delve more into the world!
