The Hardestys of Montana #1

The Cowboy’s Bride

Drive, she said…

When Isabella Stanton’s Dallas society wedding becomes the most humiliating day of her life, there’s only one thing to run—hard to do in a wedding dress. She begs a ride from the handsome wedding limo driver offering him a huge bonus to help her escape. After a lifetime of trying to please everyone but herself, Isabella has no plans, no job, and no set destination. Her only certainty–she can never go home again.

Will Hardesty understands escape. Growing up heir apparent cowboy on his family’s ranch in Marietta, Montana, he left behind his difficult father to play football in college and the NFL. After an injury costs him his career and his wife, he buys a limo company, focusing on business not romance. Initially he thinks he’s Driving Miss Crazy, but even his inner cynic can’t resist his adorable passenger who’s funny and consistently finds the bright side of everything.

But will an emergency detour to his family’s ranch coupled with a convenient lie about their blossoming relationship be the romantic nudge they both need or their undoing?

Barbara Ankrum grew up in Upstate New York, training to be a ballerina, but secretly dreaming of being an actress. Her first fangirl crush on Haley Mills led her to practice her British accent on unsuspecting store clerks, and she dreamed of co-starring in the remake of THE MOONSPINNERS. Because she was also a compulsive reader, she discovered that the film was based on a book by the fabulous Mary Stewart, which led to Barbara's lifelong obsession with romantic fiction.

Since Haley Mills was, sadly, not in the market for a co-star, Barbara pursued a degree in English Literature from the University of Tennessee. And when that degree, predictably, led to unemployment, she pulled up her socks and moved to Hollywood where she built a career as a successful commercial actress while raising two amazing (now grown) children with her sweet husband.

Writing romance came naturally from all that reading and the down time between auditions. Once she sold her first book, she said farewell to Hollywood-Land and never looked back. In between writing novels, she got her MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard and optioned a few screenplays. But her first love is, and always will be, romance.

Barbara's emotional, character driven, adventurous historicals (Wild Western Hearts series), her sexy, romantic suspense for Harlequin and her funny, heartwarming contemporaries for Tule Publishing, offer a little something for everyone. Twice nominated for Romance Writers of America's prestigious RITA Award, and her contemporary romance, Holiday Hearts, was made into a Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Christmas movie! Today, she lives in Texas with her husband and a scruffy, adorable rescue dog.

This is a beautiful heartfelt and heartwarming romance, what happens when a runaway bride pleads with the wedding limo driver to take her halfway across the country?

Isabella Stanton has gone through her life trying to please everyone but after the disaster in the church maybe it is time to please herself and that will be to start a new life with no plans just be herself but this trip with the handsome limo driver will open her eyes in so many ways.

Will Hardesty has been through so much in his life he grew up on the family ranch in Marietta, Montana but NFL was his big dream and he took when he could but injury cost him that and his career and he is now owner of a limousine company, so when the runaway bride begs him to take her from Dallas to Seattle he agrees not knowing how this trip will work out but he knows he wants to help Izzy.

Part way to Seattle Will gets a call and he makes a detour to the family ranch to help sort out a few problems this is an emotional time for him and Izzy, will this bring them together because neither can ignore the pull between them any longer, can they finally put the past behind them and look to the future filled with love and happiness?

I loved this one from start to finish and highly recommend it to any lover of romance and of course a trip to Marietta is always fabulous. Don’t miss this one it is beautiful.

My thanks to Tule Publishing for my digital copy to read and review.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book, given to me by Tule Publishing via BookFunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a pleasurable, immersive read “The Cowboy’s Bride”, by Barbara Ankrum, is, showcasing interesting, complex and well developed characters in such a romantic story!
I loved watching two very different people meet in odd circumstances, hard for Isabella, and connect and feel attracted to each other despite the confusion that is happening in their own personal lives.
I also loved how the author wrote the slow, subtle building of attraction and chemistry – the visual, scent and touch traits, for example – and watching the feelings of mutual unsettling Will and Isabella cause in each other.
For all the mess Isabella got involved in in the opening of the story, her character reveals a core of steel and determination that is appealing, even the more when it doesn’t hide insecurities and a very human vulnerability.
Will is such a great hero. He appears a bit aloof in the beginning but deep waters run still: the protectiveness and thoughtfulness revealed later are a magnet.
Nothing, no one is what it really seems in the beginning: Isabella isn’t the pampered, "poor, little rich girl", and the “hot limo driver”, who comes across initially as a bit insensitive, is after all a tender male, “an experienced cuddler”.
Everything is a bit more complex than it seems.
The quality and flow of the writing, in such an easy, fluid style, make the reading very enjoyable.
The story is a lovely road trip, a geographical travel and also one of self-discovery and romance.

Will rescues Isabella in his car when she runs from her wedding, after finding out her groom was a cheater, he's driving the limo, but is also a part owner in the business. They agree he'll drive her to her friend in Seattle, until he gets a call from his family and rushes to the family ranch.
Over the course of the drive she realises that the feelings she had for her ex are completely different to what she's feeling for Will. And he's realising he doesn't want to let her leave.
How can they resolve it?

Great start to this new series. Isabella runs out of the church and finds Will next to the limo. She pleads with him to take her away. Though neither one of them realize this, this meeting is the beginning of their journey. I loved their story. It was entertaining, funny, heartwarming and so much more. It will have you reading page after page and before you know their story will be over. I loved this book! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. What would do if you were at your wedding and got to the part of the ceremony where the minister asks, is there anyone here who objects to this couple getting married, and a very pregnant woman stands up and says how about this, pointing to her belly? Well, I can tell you what Isabella Stanton did, she stands there stunned and listening in shock to the back-and-forth conversation going on between the groom Theo Margate and the pregnant woman. When she comes to her senses she runs out of the church and gets into the limo they have hired to take them to the reception and begs the driver to leave and get her away from this nightmare. He locks the doors and will not let the Theo into the limo and proceed to drive away. Afterall it is his job to protect the people that hired him and that is what he is doing.

With no clothes, purse, phone or money she begs the driver to take her to Seattle after borrowing his phone to call her best friend. She plans on selling her engagement ring to pay her way. She offers the driver $6000 to take her to Seattle and finally he says yes. She calls her grandmother Lucille and asks her to sneak into her parents' house and get her purse and passport and send them to her. After a lifetime of trying to please everyone, else Izzy is taking time to do what she wants to do. She has no plans other than going to Seattle, no job, home or anything. It is for darned sure she will never go home again.

In talking to the driver, she finds out that his name is Will Hardesty and he used to be a professional football player until he hurt his leg and there went his career. His injury also cost him his wife too as she could not handle being married to someone who was no longer famous. So now he is part owner of the limo company. Growing up he was a cowboy, and the family owns a ranch in Marietta, Montana. But he has not been home since his dad's funeral.

On their way to Seattle, they have a lot of time to talk and learn a lot about each other. By the time they get there, Will is going to be sorry to see her go. They have become good friends in such a short time. Is this good news? Is Will starting to develop feelings for Izzy? Will the feeling be returned by her? Check out this great book and you will find all of the answers. I loved reading it and you will too!

This is my review of The Cowboy’s Bride. The first book in Barbara Ankrum’s new series, The Hardestys of Montana. This is the story of sweet and caring Isabella Stanton, raised by wealthy parents determined to climb to the top of the Dallas and Texas political circles. It’s Isabella’s wedding day, ruined by the appearance of her husband-to-be’s pregnant girlfriend. Isabella decides immediately that her happiness is more important than her cheating fiancé, his politically top-of-the-food chain parents, or her parents’ political desires. She jumps into the hired limousine and begs the driver to just drive!

Enter Will Hardesty, limousine driver and company owner, retired NFL All Pro running back, and native of Marietta, Montana. Chivalry is not dead, and Will takes care of Izzy, as he calls her. She hires him to drive her to Seattle, where her best friend lives, but complications occur. They end up in Marietta at his family ranch. Things are slightly crazy because they tell his family that they are a couple. Their fib is becoming more real with each passing day. Will is supportive of Izzy and her ideas. Something her parents never accomplished. Will also finds it easy to share with Izzy. Something that he has never been able to do with his family.

The unexpected arrival of Izzy’s loving grandmother exposes their fib. Events go out of control and Izzy ends up at the airport in Bozeman, determined to leave permanently. Can Will, the big tough Marietta and NFL hero do what it takes to win Izzy’s heart? Can he also have a good relationship with his family? If Will gets to Izzy in time, will her heart be open to loving Will? The Cowboy’s Bride is a wonderful new Marietta story. The Hardestys are a great addition to Marietta. There have been many books written about runaway brides, but Izzy was a runaway bride with a legitimate reason for running. I must applaud the author for her depiction of Will, a man whose life has suffered many hardships, none greater than a marriage ruined by a gold-digging wife. Thank you for this realistic view. My Rating: 5 STARS!

One cuddle was all it took. - Stuck together after a trying day, Isabella and Will form something of a kinship, especially since day one has them in the same bed. Not for undercover activities, but because there's only one bed in the one room available in the small-town motel and they're both tired from the long drive. A friendly cuddle was granted by Will, Izzy needing comforting after her harried experience. No funny business at all. I loved him from that moment, demonstrating the goodness of his heart, even if he is a tough nut to crack.

When they wind up at his family's ranch due to his siblings' machinations, their faking a relationship is intended to sidestep questions from everyone. Forced proximity brings them closer even as each attempts to keep their heart guarded. She did just leave her groom in the dust and his ex-wife did a number on his heart. But they can't resist the allure of bliss to be found in each other's arms. Can they trust what they feel after all the pain they have suffered?

This is the first book I have read by this author and I was not disappointed. It took a figurative slap in the face for Izzy to grow a backbone and begin to stand on her own two feet, but she claimed her power. Will opened himself back up to love, familial and romantic. He had all but turned his back on his family, still smarting from his father's disdain of Will's life choices. Any other father would be bragging to his friends, but I guess a rancher's love for the land surpasses his love of football. Her Grandma Lucille is so sweet and Will's family is the best. I can't wait for more of the Hardesty clan.

From page one, I became part of Isabella’s story and adventures. Isabella was ready to marry Theo and do the right thing for her politically driven parents but when a very pregnant guest got up and made a scene during the wedding, Isabella ran straight to the waiting Limo that was supposed to take them to the airport for their honeymoon. Driver Will, and co-owner of the service protected Isabella from Theo and made sure she escaped. Will knows escape since he did that years ago when he left the family ranch to play professional football. Without identification, a cell phone, a handbag, or anything else Isabella asked Will to drive her from Dallas to Seatle to her best friend. A complimentary bottle of champagne and little to no food made quite a combination to change Isabella’s demeanor and interesting journey to Seatle. About halfway to Seatle, Will’s siblings phoned and tricked him into coming back to the family ranch in Marietta, Montana To make matters easier Will and Izzy faked a relationship but soon discovered the chemistry between them. Izzy not just fell in love with Will but also with his family and Marietta. Will starts to see the ranch and his family through Izzy’s eyes. Although Izzy discovers the real Isabella during this time she has to run away again when she is unsure of Will’s true feelings. Is Will going to stop Izzy or even catch her time? The Cowboy’s Bride is a sweet and heartfelt romance with a good dose of fun and adventure. It was great to be back in Marietta and I am looking forward to the next book.

The Cowboy’s Bride by Barbara Ankrum
Story starts out on the wedding day of Isabella. Problem is she is a bit nervous and notices others reactions to her walking down the aisle. Her mother is high in politics and has invited all her friends and it's a huge gathering. Gina does her a favor and Isabella leaves the church and hops in the limo waiting to take them to their honeymoon. Problem is she has nothing but the clothes on her back, no id, no cash.
The limo driver, ex football player who owns the company will drive her to Seattle. He feels everybody has abandoned her...Things go smoothly til he gets a call from his family about their mother. He decides to take that journey home and Izzy is along for the ride, for now. Love how the plans with what to do for the ranch come into play and what things they can do right away...
Misunderstood conversations on the phone and now things aren't going so right...
Love travel, adventures, how to make things work, plans and how to make them work for the family. Great read, glad this is start of a new series and this is the first book...Can't wait to read more about the others.
Received this review copy from the publisher and this is my honest opinion.

The Cowboy's Bride~ The Hardestys of Montana #1 by Barbara Ankrum
A brilliant well-written story from Barbara, and a fantastic start to a new series, which is set in Marietta Montana.

Isabella Stanton who lives in Dallas currently should be at her society wedding, however, that has become the most humiliating day of her life, there’s only one thing to do: run— which is hard to do in a wedding dress(taken from the blurb of the book)

Will Hardesty a former NFL player had to retire due to an injury, which cost him his career and his wife. Will now drives wedding Limos when confronted by Isabella, our runaway bride, who asks him to drive across the country to Seattle. Only too happy to help.

The Cowboy Bride is a brilliant story that has you feeling for the couple and cheering them along the way.I found the characters had great chemistry and the storyline is so believable that you forget it's a story and not real life.
I highly recommend this book to all, and If I could give more than 5* I would. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Simply...Brilliant!

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Happily Ever After, Inspirational, Original, Page-turner, Romantic, Realistic, Wonderful characters, and Marietta Montana:)

This is not only the first book in the author’s new series, but it’s also my introduction to this author. Little did I know I was in for a treat.
The story belongs to Will Hardesty , former NFL player and nowadays limo service owner, and Dallas society bride to be, Isabella Stanton.
When Isabella runs out of the church and finds Will next to a limo, she is desperate and tells him to drive her away .
Neither realized that their lives would chance forever. That they would become the people they were meant to be, and that they would find true love. But will this be transient, or will they get their HEA?
This is a story about becoming who you really want to be. A story about leaving behind expectations and finding happiness. It’s also a story about family, or lack thereof, new beginnings in life and love.
The plot was engaging from the first page to the last. At times heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. Wonderful and well developed main characters.
Looking forward to the next story in the series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

I love the runaway-bride trope and The Cowboy’s Bride fits it perfectly. Author Barbara Ankrum has created two wonderful, likeable and believable characters in bride Isabella and limousine driver Will Hardesty. I empathised with Isabella from the moment she appeared on the page suffering under the pre-wedding ministrations of her domineering mother Eliza. My feelings for her grew when she discovered during the wedding that her groom Theo had been two-timing her for some time. Will is not your ordinary limo driver. He had a promising NFL career until a broken leg sidelined him for good. He’s now co-owner of the limousine business. Will is an all-round good guy and it doesn’t take him long to see that Isabella needs more than just a trip to the nearest airport. I loved the way he stepped up to look after her when she really needed him. I also loved the secondary characters in this book, particularly Will’s family. It was touching to see how much they cared for Will and how they welcomed Izzy into their home. Izzy’s indomitable grandmother was another marvellous character. This story is a feel-good romance with plenty of warmth. It has been a joy to read.

Isabella's wedding doesn't go as planned, so she convinces the limo driver to drive her to Seattle. But that plan has some bumps along the way--needing new clothes, a hotel room with only one bed, needing to sell an engagement ring, etc... Until the trip takes a major right turn to Montana.
Will gets Isabella's need to run, and the trip to Seattle isn't a hardship since the former NFL player co-owns the limo service. Isabella's attractive, but she's a client, and just broke off her wedding, so it's hands off. A call demands he return to Montana asap. The new plan--pretend to be a couple.
Family drama, ranch business, and a pretend relationship means a lot of secrets until they all unravel, one by one. The sparks are flying, but a relationship couldn't happen that fast, not when they each have a lot to sort out from their pasts.
Montana nights and new ideas for the ranch could mean a new start for both, if they can find the middle ground, and it just might lead to forever.
Loved this book!

This book is runaway bride meets road trip, with a whole bunch of slow burn romance thrown in. It’s sweet, funny, and touching. A quick, feel-good story.

When Isabella Stanton, daughter of state representative Eliza Stanton, is jilted at the alter by her wealthy and two-timing fiancé, Theo Margate,, she grabs the limo meant to drive the couple to their reception. She convinces the chauffer, the handsome Will Hardesty, to drive her to her pregnant friend’s place in Seattle.

It’s a long drive from Dallas to Seattle, but Will, former NFL player and a compassionate man, agrees, despite the fact that Isabella has no money, credit cards, or anything of value with which to pay him. When he gets a call from home in Montana, urging him to hurry there, Isabella agrees to join him. It offers her a chance to see a different side of life, away from the embarrassment of the shattered wedding and the controlling demands of her mother.

I loved this book. It’s sweet and engaging. It’s also well-written quick read. I loved the characters, especially Will’s family. I look forward to the next book in this series.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the publisher, Tule. I thank all involved for their generosity, but it had no effect on this review.

Back in Marietta, Montana is really my happy place!

Isabella Stanton (Izzy) Has grown up privileged. Was her wedding to Theo really what she wanted or was it what her mother wanted for her?

Will Hardest a NFL all pro running back forced to retire after a leg injury. He owns a limousine company and it just so happens that he’s the driver of the limousine that is to take Isabella to her reception. But instead, Isabella hires him to drive her to Seattle when her nuptials are stopped by Theos pregnant girlfriend.

I loved how Will jumped right in to take care of Izzy. His family is also amazing and I would love to be a part of that family.

This is a definite must read!
Quick read and be well written .

This was a fun read. Izzy was so sassy and such a fun character. I feel like she was one of the people we need in our lives that even in the troubled times, there is time to laugh. Will to me was the polar opposite, I want to say that he would be a small stick in the mud type who's family responsibility he cared on his shoulders. He was super fun too though he went with the punches and I loved that his sister held him accountable and called him out. Man I can't wait to read more about this family. I will say I was torn on who was my favorite character though I think its a tie between Sarah and Lucille, I think they need to join forces because nothing was getting by them. Overall this was a fun read and I really enjoyed it, there is adult content so it may not be suitable for all.

Isabella runs away from her high society wedding, in her wedding dress, straight to Will the limo driver. He agrees to drive her wherever she wants to go. Little does she know that he is actually the limo service owner that the groom requested drive for the happy couple. As their adventure unfolds they find that they have a lot in common. Will left his family expectations behind to become a NFL player. Isabella didn't marry the man her parents wanted her to marry. Now they are detoured back to his family's ranch. Will Isabella and Will realize what they have before the adventure ends. Good read.

A runaway bride on a road trip from Dallas to Seattle with limo driver Will. I adored this book from the very first chapter. Will has agreed to be the driver for Izzy and on their trip they share a mutual chemistry, but will it be a fling or a HEA. Neither are looking for that HEA in the beginning, A slight detour to Marietta, Will's family ranch leads to fake relationship. and Izzy falling more in love with Will and his family, the family that she never had.

Loved these characters, great chemistry between Will and Izzy, Both with broken hearts but so much to give to each other. I can't wait to read more the Hardestys of Montana.

Not A Rebound Romance!!!

Book one of “The Hardestys of Montana”. Isabella Stanton is in the middle of getting married when a very pregnant woman gets up and accuses her fiancé of being the father. Izzy decides to get away and hijacks the limo that’s waiting outside the church. Will Hardesty is a former NFL player who had to retire after a devastating injury. He and his partner own the limo company. When the frantic almost-bride tells him she’ll pay him to drive her from Dallas to Seatle, he’s reluctant but something about her makes him agree. Then a message from his brother makes them change course and head to his family’s ranch in Marietta, Montana. Good book!

The heart and humor in all of Barbara Ankrum’s books keeps me coming back every time. I can always count on getting all the feels while getting lost in either a sprawling ranch in Montana or a quaint Christmas town in Washington or a time travel back to the 1800’s. Ms. Ankrum knows how to keep her readers glued to every emotion, every character, every word on the page. I read this in one day and was heartbroken when it was over. I want the rest of Will and Izzy’s story! I can’t wait for the next read!!

When Isabella's wedding day takes an unexpected twist she runs to limo driver ,Will to whisk her away. This run-away bride, fake relationship romance is somewhat predictable. But so what ? I loved every minute of it. Especially once they arrived at Will's family ranch in Marietta, Montana. I loved his family and Isabella's Grandmother , Lucille. A great start to the series with a great setting and interesting, realistic characters. I look forward to reading more ! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. Isabella ran from the church not knowing what she was going to do, running seemed to work. Will tried to be just her driver but he felt bad for her and decided to help her in any way he could. The friendship that develops between Isabella and Will is so special, Will gives her everything that her parents and her ex-fiance never gave her, emotional support, faith that she isn't the one that failed and the strength to believe she was good enough to be loved. I loved the characters, enjoyed the story and I look forward to reading more about the Hardestys.

Isabella’s groom was a selfish idiot and she wouldn’t have known the truth if the pregnant girl he was cheating on her with hadn’t spoken up during the ceremony. Will was just the limo driver but he becomes her rescuer and skirts the truth about their relationship several times by faking that they are together especially with his family. And when they take it all the way he can’t admit it’s real. But she did just break up with her fiancée. I liked her ideas to save his family’s ranch and his siblings and I’m looking forward to reading more about them in future books.

A delightful rescue the runaway bride romance. I love novels where romance sneaks up on the characters and there is denial. This story covers sneaky romance, a jerk of a groom, and a cool getaway. While Izzy is running away with limo driver Will, he ends up running toward the disaster he feels responsible for with his family in Montana. They really just need to run to each other.

The Cowboys Bride could also be called the Runaway Bride because that is exactly what Isabella Stanton does in this book by Barbara Ankrum. This first book in the Hardestys of Montana Series certainly grabs your attention and holds it until the very end.

A cute read filled with great characters, a plot that is tried and true and a end that will make you smile Marvelous way to escape in an afternoon read when you know there is a happily-ever-after by the conclusion.
